As Diwali festivities swept across the nation, Pakistani politician Sharmila Faruqui joined the celebrations, sharing glimpses of her look for the occasion. Adorned in a stunning Sabyasachi saree paired with elaborate gold jewellry, the Pakistani politician showcased her festive spirit by sharing pictures of herself enjoying the festivities with sparklers.

The PPP leader was also accompanied by her husband Hasham Riaz Sheikh, a former Wall Street investment banker and advisor to the former President Asif Ali Zardari.

However, the politician’s enthusiasm for foreign traditions didn’t sit well with netizens, who questioned her choices and expressed displeasure over what they perceived as an appropriation of cultural practices.

This is not the first time Sharmila Faruqui has faced public scrutiny for her choices. In the previous month, she encountered backlash for dressing up as a clown for Halloween, prompting discussions about the appropriateness of political figures engaging in such activities.
