Top Karachi School’s Letter to Parents Before Exams is Winning the Internet

It’s a dream of every parent for their child to top every class and ace every exam. They desire for their son or daughter outperform all other kids, emerging as an intellectual rock star above the rest.

Consequently, this wish also gives birth to an alarming concern i.e. the extreme pressure from parents on their children to pass the examinations with flying colors.

With examination-season in the air, nervous students are bound to be feeling a severe burden to meet the threshold. Eventually, parents’ expectations begin to take a toll on children, resulting in anxiety and depression amongst the younger generation.

This has become a growing issue not only in Pakistan but all over the world, leading to students become more stressed than ever before.

A leading school in Karachi has finally taken notice of the rising dilemma!

A beautiful letter by Army Public School (APS) addressed to parents before the exam time has surfaced on the internet and is going viral for all the right reasons.

The note enunciates to parents that a student’s future isn’t completely connected to their performance in exams.

The heartfelt message from the APS’s principal came into the spotlight after Ali Zafar shared it on Twitter and people couldn’t help cheering for the school.

“Amongst the students who will be sitting for the exams, there is an artist, who doesn’t need to understand Math

There is an entrepreneur, who doesn’t care about History or English literature…There is a psychologist, whose Chemistry marks won’t matter. Every child has a unique quality in him/her.

There’s an athlete whose physical fitness is more important than Physics. If your child does get top marks, that’s great! But if he or she doesn’t, please don’t take away their self-confidence and dignity from them. Tell them it’s OK, it’s just an exam! They are cut out for much bigger things in life”

Here’s how the internet is reacting to the thought-provoking letter!

The letter was originally penned by a school’s principal in Singapore and was later picked by institutes all over the world

The note is definitely a must-read for every parent. Kudos to Army Public School for reminding us that life isn’t all about scores.

Facebook Takes a Dig at Twitter by Introducing ‘Breaking News’ Feature!

Facebook has been facing downfall in its traffic ever since the company decided to change its algorithm. Twitter, on the other hand, became the new platform to share new content as news.

However, the social media platform also revised its strategy, which has weakened its position as it started to promote older tweets, overshadowing the new content.

Facebook decided to take advantage of the situation and is giving publishers the opportunity to roll out ‘breaking news’ feature. This will help draw more attention to the content.

The social media giant is also expanding to over 50 additional publishers in North America, Latin America, Europe and Australia. Publishers can use this feature once a day ( 1post per day) plus another five per month and set it to appear for 15 minutes to six hours.

TechCruch has added, The tag has no direct impact on a post’s News Feed ranking. It would make sense to show it more frequently while the tag is live and then less afterward, and Facebook says it’s considering some ranking consequence.

But just the visual cue has led to boosts in engagement, including a 4 percent lift in click-through rate, 7 percent lift in Likes, 4 percent lift in Comments and 11 percent lift in Shares. Publishers can see how their tagged posts did in a special analytics section.

“We’ve been pleased to collaborate with Facebook to elevate breaking news on their platform and are excited — but not surprised — to see readers respond the way they have,” said The Washington Post’s lead product manager Dave Merrell after testing the tag. “Delivering accurate information quickly has always been core to our mission, and in an overwhelming news cycle we want our readers to be able to easily identify when there’s new reporting.”

PFA to Shutdown All ‘Substandard’ Water Companies

The Supreme Court has ordered Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to close down all substandard water companies after hearing a suo motu against such companies.

The court has ordered PFA to shut down all companies that do not meet the requirements set by PFA.

PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal informed the court on Saturday that 1,150 companies of bottled water were registered in the province. Out of the total, 1,053 companies were functional while 97 were already closed.

He further added that only 578 companies had passed the tests whereas 34 other companies had failed to meet the standards. The remaining 135 companies are still in waiting.

Poultry

“No contamination was found in the samples of broiler chicken’s meat randomly taken from different parts of Lahore,” says the Acting vice-chancellor of University of Health Sciences Prof Dr Faisal Masood to the Supreme Court.

The CJ adjourned the hearing till March 9 and also directed the chief secretary to ensure Dr Masood was not transferred to any other post as the court needed his expertise in such cases.

Formula Milk

An appeal had been submitted to the Supreme Court by a lawyer asking to remove “it is not natural milk” from the product’s packaging. However, the appeal was rejected.

“The company has been following all international and local standards for producing its formula milk (Lactogen) for the children up to six months.”

Advocate Salman Aslam Butt requested the court to waive the condition. He further added that infants cannot digest milk of buffaloes and the formula milk was necessary for them in order to digest, and that the company has been following all rules and regulations set by PFA.

On the other hand, CJ realized that the court is not bound to follow the rules of the food authority and said:

“Milk is a great blessing of Allah and if manufacturing companies were not ready to print ‘it is not natural milk’ on their products the court could ban their production.”

Hyundai Santro Makes a Comeback to the Automotive Market!

Hyundai Santro is coming back to the markets! According to reports, the famous variant will come to India in August 2018!

The 2018 Hyundai Santro will serve as a replacement for Eon, and Eon failed to meet with Indian safety standards.

10 Anticipated Cars We Just Cannot Wait For in 2018! [View Images]

The 2018 Santro will follow on the i10 platform, which is not a new concept. The engine will be 1086cc powered by almost 70bhp and torque 100Nm. Given that the engine is almost next to being a vintage car collection item, it will have to be altered to meet 22l/km.

As the reports add, the new Santro will be equipped with AMT and 5-speed gearbox and will have a lot of amazing features and specifications. The expected value of the 2018 Hyundai Santro is INR 3 lac (PKR 5.07 lac).

As far as the Pakistani market is concerned, Hyundai has teamed up with Nishat to make its comeback. It is highly possible for them to bring back the Santro in Pakistan after they explore the Indian auto market.

Mian Mansha on collaboration with Hyundai said, “The  Korean car maker wants to first start the assembly of small cars that could compete with the existing assemblers already operating in this market. We are discussing with them… trying to convince them to also bring electric and hybrid cars. I see the future is in electric cars. We could import these cars in the beginning and later also start assembling them locally.”

Apple to Release a Cheaper Version of MacBook Air

Launched to great fanfare 10 years ago but barely updated in almost three years, Apple could now have a new version of its MacBook Air in the pipeline for release in the second half of 2018, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The idea would be for Apple to release a new 13-inch MacBook Air at a particularly low price point for this model, which would remain the entry-level offering in Apple’s range. Rumors evoke a starting price of just $799, or thereabouts.

With this kind of product, Apple could target lower-income users, starting with students, who often look to alternative options running Windows 10 or even Chrome OS. So, rather than abandoning the Air, as some may have expected, Apple could be set to prolong the lifespan of this product.

Indeed, the MacBook Air is a still strong brand, even if somewhat overshadowed in recent years by more profitable MacBook and MacBook Pro ranges.

If the rumor turns out to be true, the device could be revealed at the next Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), held in San Jose, California, June 2018.

The current MacBook Air starts at $999 in the USA in its most basic configuration, with specs including a dual-core 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, a 128GB SSD and 8GB RA

Instagram to Launch Voice & Video Calling?

Instagram has become the new favorite application of the youth. Since the decrease in Snapchat and Facebook users, social media enthusiasts have become very fond of the application.

Instagram’s popularity saw an increase after it introduced ‘stories’ inspired by Snapchat, to keep the user’s interest intact, the social media giant might be introducing Insta audio calls and video calls.

This will be a huge leap for the developers, as potential businesses can use this feature to expand their businesses as customers will not have to make much effort to get in touch with the managers.

An initial report by TechCrunch hints that there are files in both Instagram and Instagram Direct’s Android Application Packages (or APKs) that suggest that there will soon be a “Call” and “Video Call” function available.

We have to yet see when does the application launch the feature if they intend on rolling out the calling options. If so, Instagram will have another advantage over its competitors and can eventually build on generating revenue in the long run by promoting businesses.

What do you think about the new feature?

Long Weekend Coming Up For Pakistanis!

Pakistanis just had a dose of a long weekend last month. The 5th of February fell on Monday giving everyone 3 days of relaxation!

Well, nothing is more joyful than a bunch of holidays in a week when you can just relax at home, chill with your friends and get a break from studies or work.

Now yet another long weekend is in store for Pakistanis & we couldn’t be happier!

For those who haven’t checked the calendar yet, 23rd March i.e. Pakistan Day is falling on Friday, giving us a three-day long weekend

We’re Pretty Sure This Is How You’re All Feeling Right Now!

According to Pakistan’s official Holiday Calendar of 2018, the 23rd of March will be marked as a public holiday on the account of Pakistan Resolution Day. This would mean all schools, institutions and public organizations would remain closed.

But the bad news is that mobile services are most likely to be suspended on 23rd March. For the past couple of years, cellular services are blocked for a certain amount of time to ensure strict security control.

However, let’s make most of the holiday and actually make an effort in improving the lives of our fellow citizens.
