Facebook Downvote to Launch in Pakistan Soon!

Facebook has been experimenting with a new downvote a.k.a dislike button recently in Pakistan. Several users have noticed the downwards arrow appear and disappear on their feed in the last couple of days.

The feature is not to degrade anyone, the concept is simple, to stop bad comments and disrespect towards another person. If the comment, or link, or material shared is inappropriate and should not belong on the platform, users can simply downvote.

Facebook Shuts Over 583 Million Fake Accounts

Users can also use this feature to tackle the rising problem of fake news conquering one’s Facebook feed. It will let others know that the information being provided on the particular link is not authentic and will discourage the spreading of hoax news.

However, there is still a question of whether it will be ‘visible’ enough to meet its purpose. Having a dislike button on top or a reaction would have been more noticeable comparatively.

Nonetheless, it is a feature a lot of people have been waiting for, that too for quite some time now. It has started to roll out to a few individuals as of now and is expected to be available to users across the nation very soon.

Other platforms like Quora and Reddit already use the upvote/downvote system as a part of their platforms for discussions.

What are your thoughts on the much-awaited downvote button?

PlayStation Picks Four Big Games for E3 2018

A quartet of upcoming video games is to dominate much of PlayStation’s E3 2018 public-facing media briefing at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

There’ll be more on its partnership with “Death Stranding,” the first game from “Metal Gear Solid” auteur Hideo Kojima since leaving Japanese publisher Konami.

In addition to detailed art direction and Kojima’s customarily layered world-building, earlier previews have evidenced the on-screen involvement of Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead”), Mads Mikkelsen (“Rogue One,” “Hannibal”), and Guillermo del Toro (director of “Pacific Rim,” “The Shape of Water”).

Speaking of Japanese epics, “Ghost of Tsushima” was first revealed in September 2017 as a lavishly rendered adventure in the samurai era.

In development at the studio behind successful superhero franchise “Infamous,” it is already positioned as a high-quality, must-play experience exclusive to PlayStation 4.

Marvel’s Spider-Man” allows players to become the web-slinging comic book and movie hero a little later in life, when the young vigilante is approaching the peak of his powers.

Due September 2018, a successful and impressive E3 presence is crucial to the game’s publicity campaign.

Yet, of PlayStation’s chosen four, “Marvel’s Spider-Man” is the only one with a set release date at the time of the E3 announcement.

By the end of the show, post-apocalyptic survival adventure “The Last of Us Part II” could be touting its own launch timing, having gone into development in 2014, and previewed with trailers late in 2016 and then 2017.

Following unlikely travel partners Joel and Ellie on a trek across an overgrown and treacherous United States, its predecessor was a resounding critical success for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 after a 4-year development cycle and re-released on PlayStation 4 the following year.

Away from those four titles, Sony Interactive Entertainment America’s President and CEO Shawn Layden promised “stellar announcements from third-party publishers and independent developers” in an update to the PlayStation Blog.

The PlayStation E3 2018 Showcase begins in Los Angeles at 6 pm PT on June 11 through live.playstation.com and playstation.com/e3.

Simultaneous live broadcasts through PlayStation’s TwitchYouTube and Facebook accounts have also been telegraphed.

That 6 pm start timing equates to 9 pm ET, and then 1 am UTC on June 12, 2 am UK, 3 am central Europe and South Africa, 6.30am India Standard Time, 9 am Singapore, the Philippines, Malaysia and Beijing, China, 10 am South Korea and Japan, and 11 am in Sydney, Australia.

The Next iPhone SE to be a Mini Budget Version of the iPhone X?

Although Apple’s WWDC, this year set to run June 4-8, often focuses on new operating systems, there are precedents for hardware unveilings, such as that of the HomePod and new iPad last year.

One of this year’s announcements is widely believed to be the reveal of the iPhone SE 2, which according to a tweet sent out last Friday by the reliable mobile leaker Evan Blass, is supposedly going to be called iPhone SE (2018).

This could make sense as the device hasn’t been updated for over two years. Not only that, the market for the budget smartphone seems to be on the rise, especially in countries such as India. With Apple products being generally known for high price tags, it may be a logical move for the company to broaden their offerings.

And if recent renders seen on tech accessories maker Olixar are to be trusted, the mid-range phone is taking after the brand’s current flagship, iPhone X. Olixarappears to be already selling a case for the iPhone SE 2018 and according to express.co.uk, the site is “famous for showing off what’s to come long before official launch events”.

The website shows an image of a phone case, around a device shaped like an iPhone SE but with a notch and without a home button. Upon first glance, there is a striking resemblance to Apple’s high-end model, the ‘X,’ which raises the question as to whether the new model will also have FaceID, the brand’s famous facial recognition system. 9to5mac reports that according to Japanese website Macotakara “‘all of the prototypes’ have two things in common: a notch design and support for Face ID.” Other prototypes include the future flagship model.

Back in April, Ben Geskin tweeted that the iPhone SE 2018 may also come with a glass backing in order to allow for wireless charging, much like with the 2017 phones. This is an unconfirmed rumor that Geskin told CNET was based on own sources who are close to the iPhone’s manufacturing side.

Now the big question is, will Apple keep the headphone jack? As a more affordable option, it could make sense to keep the port for this model, allowing users to also opt for cheaper headphone options. However, if they drop the port, the device may be waterproof.

Nothing has been confirmed yet but brand fans are hoping they will find out more next month rather than having to wait until September to find out what the real specs are.

Facebook Suspends 200 Apps Over Data Misuse

The investigation was launched after revelations that political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica hijacked data on some 87 million Facebook users as it worked on Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign.

“The investigation process is in full swing,” said an online statement from Facebook product partnerships vice president Ime Archibong.

“We have large teams of internal and external experts working hard to investigate these apps as quickly as possible. To date, thousands of apps have been investigated and around 200 have been suspended — pending a thorough investigation into whether they did in fact misuse any data.”

Archibong added that “where we find evidence that these or other apps did misuse data, we will ban them and notify people via this website.”

The revelations over Cambridge Analytica have prompted investigations on both sides of the Atlantic and led Facebook to tighten its policies on how personal data is shared and accessed.

Facebook made a policy change in 2014 limiting access to user data but noted that some applications still had data obtained prior to the revision.

“There is a lot more work to be done to find all the apps that may have misused people’s Facebook data — and it will take time,” Archibong said.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg spent most of the past month on the fallout from revelations about Cambridge Analytica’s data hijacking, seeking to assuage fears that the California-based internet colossus can safeguard privacy while making money by targeting ads based on what people share about themselves.

Efforts to rebuild trust in Facebook include a review of all applications that had access to large amounts of user data.

The 200 applications Facebook said it suspended included one called myPersonality that collected psychological information shared by millions of members of the social network who voluntarily took “psychometric” tests.

“We suspended the myPersonality app almost a month ago because we believe that it may have violated Facebook’s policies,” Archibong said Monday in response to an AFP inquiry.

“We are currently investigating the app, and if myPersonality refuses to cooperate or fails our audit, we will ban it.”

About 40 percent of the people who took the tests also opted to share Facebook profile data, resulting in a large science research database, the University of Cambridge psychometrics center said of the project on its website.

Security and encryption at the website used to share data with registered academic collaborators was meager and easily bypassed, according to a report Monday in British magazine New Scientist.

Lenovo’s Z5 be the First Truly ‘All-Screen’ Smartphone?

At the end of 2016, Xiaomi stepped into the age of so-called borderless displays with the Mi Mix smartphone, designed by Philippe Starck. In this model, the screen covered more than 90% of the handset’s front face.

The Chinese manufacturer started something of a trend, it seems, with any high-end smartphone worthy of the name now getting a “borderless” display, from the iPhone X to the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Huawei P20 Pro, all at the top end of the market. They may be borderless in name but, in reality, a certain amount of border or an inset “notch” still remains.

Lenovo could move things up a level with a truly all-screen smartphone, with neither a border nor a notch eating up display space. Indeed, Chang Cheng posted a photo and a sketch of the handset on China’s Weibo social network. But what of the phone’s various sensors and the front-facing camera? It’s not clear yet how they will be accommodated but, according to Chang Cheng, the Z5 will feature other major technological breakthroughs and patented technologies.

It remains to be seen whether the Lenovo Z5 will be released as a consumer handset or whether it will be a concept device, like Vivo’s recent offering at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The firm’s Apex prototype features a borderless display with an in-screen fingerprint reader and a retractable front-facing camera that pops up from the top edge of the smartphone.

Nissan to Expand Availability of ProPILOT Assist

ProPILOT Assist is a hands-on driver-assist system designed to help drivers stay centrally in their lane, navigate stop-and-go traffic and maintain a predetermined speed and distance to the vehicle ahead.

The system is very serious about the driver not taking their hands off the steering wheel though, so in some ways it could be seen as the next step forward in adaptive cruise control, rather than being genuinely autonomous.

So far, more than 120,000 vehicles featuring the innovative technology have been sold around the world, and now even more models are going to be made available with ProPILOT Assist. It was originally introduced in 2016 in the Serena minivan in Nissan’s native Japan. Since then, the technology has spread across the globe to models such as the all-electric new Nissan Leaf, the Qashqai in Europe, the X-Trail in Japan, and to the Rogue in the US. It will also be a feature of the all-new 2019 Nissan Altima sedan.

By the end of 2020, Nissan plans to expand the technology to feature in 20 different models in 20 different markets around the world.

It will now begin to feature in models such as the Nissan Rogue Sport in the US and the Qashqai in Canada from late this year, as confirmed by Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa during the company’s fiscal year 2017 financial results announcement Monday.

Nissan’s chief planning officer, Philippe Klein, said of the expansion plans: “ProPILOT Assist is an iconic technology for Nissan Intelligent Mobility, Nissan’s vision of how vehicles are powered, driven and integrated into society. Its acceptance by consumers has been beyond expectations, and we’re pleased to expand its availability to more popular models such as Altima, X-Trail and Rogue Sport.”
