In an interview with the China Economic Net, Adviser to Prime Minister on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood said that Pakistan is looking for a wide range of cooperation with China in geographical areas and products.
According to the adviser, the Chinese government had provided Pakistan with an opportunity to export more than just textile, leather and agricultural products and now the country is expected to export chemicals and engineering goods as well.
Here’s what he said:
“We see it as the perfect opportunity to enhance collaboration with Chinese companies,” he told the China Economic Net. “The second phase of Pakistan-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will become operational from the first of December.”
As per statistics, the 313 product lines, waived from tariffs under the agreement, would cover exports worth nearly $2 billion of Pakistani goods to China each year.
According to data compiled by the State Bank of Pakistan, the revised total exports from Pakistan to China rose $106 million in the previous fiscal year – from July 2018 to June 2019 – with potential to grow about 20 times.
In the previous fiscal year, Pakistan exported sugar worth $609.9 million to China, which was over four times compared to sugar exports in fiscal year 2017-18.
Minerals and precious stones were the categories frequently mentioned by Pakistan’s Ambassador to China Naghmana Hashmi when she was interviewed by the China Economic Net.
“This is a new area on which Pakistan will concentrate. We have massive opportunity. Our trade with China is very low and we certainly will be concentrating on this area,” Dawood added.
“We are not very good at international marketing and this stems from the fact that in the domestic market, demand has always been greater than supply hence the emphasis on marketing remains low,” he pointed out.

Amazon is currently in the works of launching a new supermarket brand, distinctive from Whole Foods, which the brand had acquired 2 years ago.
Amazon has also posted not one or two but 4 job postings. Though the brand has not revealed the name, they have referred to it as ‘Amazon’s first grocery store’.
Furthermore, from the job postings, it is evident that the store will open in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles.
The store has been reported to be a former Toys R Us that’s about 35,000 square feet in size.
Moreover, an Amazon spokesperson has confirmed the listings and said the store will open in 2020.

A fresh controversy has emerged after an Indian Politician has claimed that the Taj Mahal is actually a Hindu temple.
This is not the first time such claims about the Taj Mahal have appeared on the surface, the right Hindu wing has been making such claims in the past also.
However, this time Vinay Katiyar a member of the Indian Parliament for the governing party BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party) has come up with such accusations.
Vinay is currently facing criminal charges for his role in 1992’s mob attack and demolition of Babri Masjid. While talking to the media Katiya expressed the far-right claim that:
“It was our temple. Taj Mahal will be converted into Tej Mandir soon.”
In October 2017, he made similar claims, stating that the Taj Mahal is actually a Shiv Temple. Such claims have been sporadically expressed over time by many people mainly by far-right groups. Though this year August, government archaeologists replied to the petition filed in the Supreme Court of India that the Taj Mahal is indeed a Muslim tomb and not a Hindu Temple.
This news has broken a social media rumble and users are expressing their repugnance. Our Minister of Humans Right Shireen Mazari also shared her feeling in a tweet.

Hackers and scammers have become equipped with such hi-tech software and hardware that governments all around the world are exposed to data leaks and threats.
Similarly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to develop and launch its own messaging app that can be used for communication between state institutions, without having to risk security wit third-party apps.
According to the press release issued after the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the application will be called ‘Govt. App’
Furthermore, the content reads:
An indigenous application ‘Govt-APP’ may be developed. All communication related to the government if required may be undertaken using the said APP instead of other OTT services such as WhatsApp, Viber and Facebook messenger. The data will be stored in Pakistan.
Once the application is introduced, this will be a milestone in Pakistan and a leap towards independence from relying on foreign applications for communication.
Because the information sent and received is sensitive, leaders in Pakistan also use BlackBerry because of encryption.
Another great achievement that was brought forth by PTI was the ‘Citizen’s Portal’ that has actually resolved complaints made by residents surrounding their concerned areas.
Not to forget another success includes the tax filing by FBR to Qeemat Punjab App which provides fixed prices for fruits and vegetables in the 5 major cities across the country.

Pakistan’s very own badminton star Mahoor Shahzad wins gold medal at Pakistan International Series.
Mahoor was the only Pakistani player to win a gold medal in the competition, beating her Iranian competitor.
The winning match consisted three sets with the scores of 21-16, 16-21 and 21-15 and a final score of 2-1.
The Badminton champion took to her twitter to announce her victory and mentioning the fact that she was the only Pakistani player to win gold medal in singles match.

Karachi is currently under the attack of Locusts and various part of the city is swarmed with the insect right now.
Just last month Karachi was infested by flies and they were everywhere in the city whether you are indoor or outdoor.
This is the third time in the past two months that we experience such a terrible infestation of insects that have covered the sky of the city.
Many crowded areas such as Defence, Shahra-e-Faisal, Malir, and even Bhahdurabad is currently under attack and residents are sharing videos on their social media.
The reason for this locust invasion is the rise in temperature in Interior Sindh and the change of wind direction. These insects are known to be extremely deadly for the crops and destroy the fields and fields of it in just a matter of mins.

Facebook is ready to challenge popular li-sync platform TikTok with ‘Mic Drop’.
It is their lip-syncing app on Portal, a video-calling screen, to level the competition with their competitor.
Mic-Drop will only be available through Portal devices, however, the social media giant has given a sneak peek behind what Lip-Sync is about.
Reportedly, the app has the aesthetic of Guitar Hero, giving people a virtual stage on which they can perform musical numbers for friends on the other end of Portal video calls.
Furthermore, it was reported that Facebook hosted a Portal house party in New York City. The brand’s party was spread across five floors in a brownstone to show off the updates to its smart screens and Oculus virtual-reality headsets.

Facebook is considering to launch Digital Literacy Programs in Pakistan in 2020, partnering with local bodies like the Digital Rights Foundation (DRF).
These programs will educate the users about the safe usage of social media platforms as well as reporting mechanisms.
Most of the content on Facebook is actually restricted in Pakistan, still many of the harassment cases went unreported.
This mostly happen because users are unknown to the reporting mechanism though policies at the Social network are very effective.
Facebook disclosed this news at an awareness talk held this Thursday in Islamabad where the title of the discussion was “Creating Safe Online Spaces: Safety for Women”. The speaker contributed by saying that use of social media is becoming more and more restrictive for women. And the need or challenge of ensuring the safety of social media user is increasing day by day.
Regardless of gender, the surge of harassment case and reluctance in reporting has led the network to introduce these literacy programs in Pakistan. They will help the audience in rectifying the content and reported it accordingly.
Facebook has zero tolerance policy against children exploitation and teenage users. The head of safety policy of the region Asia-Pacific added:
“This year, over five million pieces on child exploitation were removed globally and 99 per cent were detected by the artificial intelligence tools,” by Ms. Amber Hawkes.
Even the types of cases were discussed by the head of DRF Program, Shmyla Khan. Online threats faced by Pakistani women include; non-consensual use of intimate images, extortion and blackmailing, accessing/hacking private data, graphic threats of violence and abusive comments and even trolling. The cases are not limited to women and children but also men.
