On today’s episode of crazy things happening in the world, an asteroid has apparently been shadowing Earth around the sun since 100 BC. Yes, that’s almost more than 2000 years! However, this is just a claim by astronomers and scientists. They thought of the asteroid to be another moon, but they later discovered that it is, in fact, orbiting the sun and not Earth and that would make this asteroid a “quasi-moon” or “fake moon.”

The asteroid, named 2023 FW13, was first discovered in March 2023 by the Pan-STARRS observatory in Hawaii. It is about 50 feet (15 meters) in diameter and orbits the sun in a similar path and pace as Earth. This means that it appears to be orbiting Earth, but it is actually orbiting the Sun independently.
2023 FW13 is not the first “quasi-moon” to be discovered. There are a few other asteroids that follow Earth around the sun in this way. However, the 2023 FW13 is the first one to be discovered that has been following Earth for such a long time.

The discovery of the 2023 FW13 is a reminder of the vastness of the solar system and the many objects that we have yet to discover. It is also a reminder that Earth is not the only object in the solar system that is affected by the gravitational pull of the sun.

The Sindh government has taken a significant step towards improving public transportation in Karachi. Authroities have launched the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) on the Lyari Expressway. Transport officials have been directed to submit a report regarding the survey and test drive by June 11.

Malnutrition has been on the rise in Pakistan for a very long time and one way to address this challenge is fortification of food. Fortification adds additional important nutrients to food products to improve their nutritional value. For years this has been a viable solution to reduce malnutrition, especially vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Fortification, particularly in children’s food is a great way to reduce malnutrition leading to better health. It is a great way to increase the intake of essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, iron, iodine, zinc and folic acid.
One of the reasons why fortification is an effective way to reduce malnutrition is also that it has the capacity to reach large populations since it involves adding nutrients to commonly consumed foods, for instance. These fortified products can be easily distributed and made available to communities, including rural and remote areas where access to a diverse diet may be limited.
Fortification also can target specific nutrient deficiencies prevalent in a population. For example, iron deficiency disorders can be addressed by fortifying wheat flour, milk and dairy nutrition solutions with iron, iodine deficiencies can be reduced by fortifying salt with iodine. This targeted approach helps address specific nutritional gaps and reduces the risk of related health problems.

In Pakistan on 1st June, according to new data from Standard Chartered, trade corridors in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East are expected to develop at a rate that is over four percentage points faster than the world average, increasing exports from these regions from USD 9 trillion in 2021 to USD 14.4 trillion by 2030. The Future of Trade 2030: New Growth Corridors report predicts that global trade will increase to USD 32.6 trillion over the same time from USD 21 trillion in 2021.
Based on an examination of previous trade statistics and forecasts through 2030, thirteen important markets are anticipated to account for 73% of all exports and 69% of all imports in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. This will result in a combined total trade value of USD19.7tn. Mainland India, China, and South Korea top the list by volume.

Google has provided an inside look into the design process behind the innovative Pixel Fold hinge, which allows the device to maintain a slim profile when unfolded. In a recent blog post, Google explained that the hinge is a 180-degree custom-built fluid friction hinge strategically placed away from the internal screen, allowing the device to lie completely flat. This design choice sets the Pixel Fold apart from other foldable devices where the hinge components are typically located under the display, resulting in increased thickness.
The challenge for Google was not only to create a hinge that would keep the device thin but also one that could withstand constant usage. George Hwang, the product manager for the Pixel Fold, acknowledged the complexity of the task, stating, “To put it simply, this is the most complex product I’ve ever worked on.”

To develop the design for the Pixel Fold hinge, Google’s team explored various sources of inspiration. They examined boxes of hinges in the lab and studied the mechanics of paper and books. The goal was to recreate the seamless blending and one-handed operation of closing a book. One book that particularly caught their attention was a passport. Sangsoo Park, an industrial designer at Google, explained, “It feels like a little bit of a metaphor, too — your passport holds your memories and it’s where so many of your stories begin. And it’s thin and pocket-able enough to carry everywhere we go.”
The team also focused on perfecting the torque required to open and close the Pixel Fold, aiming to achieve an effortless feel. This resulted in a satisfying vacuum effect when opening and a pleasant sound when closing the device. Park added, “You get this satisfying clap when it shuts, and we really liked it.”
Durability test
Durability was a crucial consideration for Google during the development of the Pixel Fold hinge. To ensure it could withstand years of usage, Google created prototypes that were manually opened and closed countless times. Eventually, a machine was built to automate this process.
