The Sindh government has taken a significant step towards improving public transportation in Karachi. Authroities have launched the Peoples Bus Service (PBS) on the Lyari Expressway. This initiative aims to provide convenient and accessible transport facilities to the people of Karachi. Also addressing the long-standing issue of inadequate public transportation in the city.
Sindh Information and Transport Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, made this announcement while chairing a meeting related to the transport sector in Karachi. As a first step, the provincial government plans to conduct a survey.It is to test drive of the Peoples Bus Service on the Lyari Expressway. Transport officials have been directed to submit a report regarding the survey and test drive by June 11.
Objectives of Sindh Governement
One of the main objectives of launching the bus service on the Lyari Expressway is to alleviate traffic congestion on other roads in Karachi. By providing an efficient public transportation option, the government hopes to encourage more people to utilize the bus service. Which will ultimately reduce the number of private vehicles on the road.
The PPP-led Sindh government has been actively working to address the transportation issues in Karachi. In line with this, Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has instructed the relevant authorities. They are to prioritize the development of a mobile app for the Peoples Bus Service. This app will provide passengers with easy access to information regarding bus routes, schedules, and fares, enhancing the overall user experience.
Introducing new routes
During the transport department meeting, Minister Memon also received updates on the operation of the bus service, including the introduction of new routes. He emphasized the importance of implementing an intelligent transport system (ITS) in all buses of the Peoples Bus Service. The ITS will enable better monitoring and management of the bus fleet, ensuring a more efficient and reliable service for passengers.
