New Visa Policy For UAE Transit Passengers

United Arab Emirates (UAE) has devised a travel plan to allow entry visas to transit passengers across all the airports across the peninsula

Now the extravagant experience of visiting Dubai is about to get more dynamic for transiting passengers. Dubai Airports has proposed ‘Microcosm of Dubai’ as part of Dubai 10X Initiative, overseen by Dubai Future Foundation.

According to Khaleej Times, Dubai is formulating a plan to enable transit passengers to leave the airport and tour the Persian Gulf hot spot.

HOW COOL IS THAT?

However, passengers who are in transit for more than four hours will get the golden ticket to travel the town. The rest will just have the opportunity to enjoy a “virtual tour” of the city.

The average spends for each visitor in transit is AED9.

As per latest statistics, up to 4.5 million passengers on average transit through Dubai International Airport monthly, with a target of 20 million by 2020.

Bennigan: Popular American Restaurant Launching in Pakistan

bennigan pakistan

Bennigan’s has long been one of the most popular American restaurant brands across the globe. Its focus on chef-driven food, innovative drinks, and friendly Irish hospitality has helped it stand apart from other concepts that have come and gone over the years.

On St. Patrick’s Day, Bennigan’s – the largest Irish-themed casual dining brand in the U.S. – executed a Master Franchise Agreement with Baila Group of Companies to open four locations in all the major cities of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The first of these locations are expected to open within a year’s time in Punjab, Pakistan.

bennigan pakistanbenni

The current plan is to expand into the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, but the Baila Group of Companies is also looking into the growth and demand of bringing Bennigan’s into other central Asian markets.

“We are confident that Bennigan’s will be enthusiastically embraced in Pakistan,” said Junaid Parvez, Deputy Managing Director of Baila Group of Companies. “We chose to franchise with Bennigan’s for a variety of reasons. Bennigan’s has an impressive history of success internationally thanks to its distinct atmosphere, architecture, and the food is truly phenomenal. The brand has a very compelling ROI and offers a world-class level of support and training. Possibly the biggest reason for why we chose Bennigan’s was because of the heartwarming memories that I cherish from frequently visiting Bennigan’s when I was a child. We want to share those memorable experiences with everyone in Pakistan.”

The Baila Group of Companies is based in Sialkot, Pakistan. Its main business includes agriculture, rice processing and export, and ceremonial halls. The owners of the Baila Group also have a prominent presence in the construction industry of the state of Qatar.

“The Pakistani market is limitless,” said Parvez Iqbal, Managing Director of Baila Group of Companies. “And all of us Pakistani’s that are overseas have an obligation to show the Pakistani people what the world has to offer.”

The menu in the new restaurants will be strict to Pakistani culture and religion. The entire menu will be Halal; pork and alcohol will not be offered.

“We simply couldn’t ask for a better franchise partner than Junaid to introduce our brand to Pakistan,” said Paul Mangiamele, Bennigan’s President & CEO. “Bennigan’s is one of the few American brands that is just as popular overseas as it is at home. That’s because of extraordinary franchisees like Junaid who have a passion for ‘bleeding green’ and understands the importance of delivering memorable dining experiences to every guest, every meal, every day.”

The chef-driven neighborhood restaurant chain renowned for its generous portions and Irish hospitality is redefining casual dining across the United States and in locations throughout Mexico, Central America, Asia and the Middle East.

Since the end of 2012, the company has opened new franchise locations in Clarksburg and Frederick, Md.; Sacramento, Calif.; Melbourne, Fla., Lexington, Ky.; Veracruz, Mexico; Larnaca, Cyprus; Obarrio, Panama; Doha, Qatar; Dubai, UAE; and a corporate location in Panama City, Fla.

Additional restaurants are planned for Florida, Tennessee, Texas and South Carolina; and internationally in Mexico, Central America, Bahrain, Australia and India

Saba Qamar Smoking Ignites Social Media Uproar!

saba qamar smoking

We all remember how the ‘ghairat brigade’ trolled Mahira Khan left, right and center after pictures of her smoking went viral on social media, twice!

Not that it was any of their business, haters made it their life mission to teach the Humsafar haseena that ‘it is a sin for women to smoke’.

Chauvinist men turned their ‘sanskari’ mode on, bashing her for holding a cigarette, cause of course, ‘a cigarette damages men’s lungs and woman’s character’.

Igniting a massive social media fire, haters got irked by Mahira for what millions do daily. They shamed her and called her corrupt for some harmless pictures and till date, the episode still continues to be a controversy.

However, somebody needs to break this stereotype and tell the world that smoking is a personal choice, and does not determine someone’s character and is equally harmful for both men and women!

Seems like our Hindi Medium success-star, Saba Qamar has taken the task to crush this taboo for once and for all.

In a powerful Instagram post, the actress shut down haters who target women for smoking!

Rocking the cigarette between her lips, the savage starlet was spotted grooving to the radio like there is no tomorrow!

saba qamar smoking

And her badass caption is winning the internet:

Mard peeyein toh wah 😘
Hum peeyein toh haaaa 🤭
Tum khao toh chips 🍟
Hum khaain toh aaloo 🤢
Smoking is injurious to all, not only to women.😊

While the picture shows her smoking, Saba made it clear to her fans that she doesn’t smoke and was just for the photoshoot.

Well, the daring diva has made us fall in love with her all the more.

Nevertheless, keyboard warriors sharpened their weapons to attack her!

But none of it will stop Saba conquering the world like the queen she is!

More power to our bold babe!

According to the Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar, Pakistan was ranked 54th amongst 84 countries with the highest prevalence of tobacco smoking.

tobacco in pakistan

This is a major cause for concern and the figures that have been revealed are staggering.

According to the Saira Afzal:

24 million (19.1%) are using tobacco in different forms in Pakistan.

That accounts for 15.6 million adults who currently smoke tobacco while the other 9.6 million adults use smokeless tobacco, Saira added.

According to the Pakistan Health Education Survey 1999, every day 5000 Pakistanis are admitted to the hospital due to tobacco use.

With the cost of smoking amounting to Rs. 143.209 billion and 160,189 deaths are a caused by the use of tobacco, the figures are a cause for concern.

Efforts have been made to control that and according to the minister, early detection and treatment of diseases caused by tobacco use were done in hospitals.

She said that Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) and the provincial governments are taking steps for early detection and treatment caused by tobacco use.

According to her, the ministry has taken various steps to increase awareness among the masses. This includes mass media campaigns on tobacco control with the assistance of World Lung Foundation (2015, 2016). And with the support of the Federal Film Censor Board, a pilot advocacy campaign in cinema theaters across Pakistan.

In this campaign, two tobacco control messages, “Alive” and “Sponge” have been disseminated to all cinema THEATERS to air/broadcast them during their shows regularly.

GSMA Launches Global Mobile Money Certification Scheme

At the Mobile 360 – West Africa event, the GSMA announced the launch of the GSMA Mobile Money Certification, a global scheme for mobile money providers to offer safer, more transparent and more resilient financial services to millions of mobile money users around the world.

The certification relies on an independent assessment of a mobile money provider’s ability to deliver secure and reliable services, to protect the rights of consumers and to combat money laundering and terrorism financing.

The certification is designed to enhance consumer trust and accelerate commercial partnerships by setting a high bar to which all providers can aspire.

“The GSMA Mobile Money Certification is a consumer-focused initiative, aimed at giving customers confidence that a provider has taken steps to ensure their funds are in safe hands, their rights are protected and they can expect a high level of customer service,” said John Giusti, Chief Regulatory Officer, GSMA.

“With over 690 million accounts globally, the mobile money industry is having a clear impact on the global effort to expand financial inclusion, providing access to life-enhancing financial services and serving as a gateway to the digital economy. Mobile money is directly advancing 13 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by facilitating access to essential services such as health and education, providing employment opportunities and reducing poverty.”

The certification scheme follows a three-year consultative process led by the GSMA, which worked together with providers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to understand the challenges of their business and assemble best practices from these markets.

Certification is open to all mobile money providers, whether they are a mobile operator, a bank or other type of payment service provider. Orange Côte d’Ivoire, Safaricom (Kenya), Telenor Microfinance Bank Ltd. (Easypaisa Pakistan), Tigo Tanzania and Vodacom Tanzania are the first to be certified, covering 98 million accounts in four markets.

The certification promotes the application of consistent risk mitigation and consumer protection practices across key areas of business. The requirements include a set of eight high-level principles and 300 detailed criteria covering issues such as security, consumer rights and the prevention of money laundering, financing of terrorism and fraud.

The Certification criteria complement providers’ compliance efforts, but goes beyond regulation in its detail and scope, defining and promoting industry best practices in detail. Responsible business practices are essential to help regulators achieve their goals around financial inclusion, stability, integrity and consumer protection.

The operational management of the certification is contracted to an independent scheme operator, Alliances Management, which has responsibility for training and overseeing independent assessors to ensure all assessments are consistent and objective. The benchmark for achieving certification has been set high to serve as an aspiration to all providers and a pass mark of 100 percent is required.

For further information on the scheme please go to the following link www.gsma.com/mmc.

Amazon in Pakistan to Make Trade with India Easier?

amazoninpakistan

Pakistan is known to have one of the fastest growing e-commerce markets around the world. Looks like Amazon in Pakistan finally happening!

With giants like Alibaba group eyes to enter the markets, Amazon has found a way to make its mark via Pakistani domain Clicky.pk. Currently. it owns 33% of the website which is widely used for buying and selling across the nation.

If the e-commerce giant increases their stake in the website, Indian sellers will have an opportunity to sell their merchandise via Amazon in Pakistan. If so, this might just bring the two nations together on the platform of trading.

amazon in pakistan

One of the people aware of the ongoing negotiation said, “If a transaction (between Amazon and Cicky.pk) goes through Indian merchants can sell more goods in Pakistan, which can be routed through Dubai, where Souq is based.”

As per a source, “Several Indian FMCG products are popular in Pakistan. But a major chunk of products is raw material, unbranded food item, clothing, and jewelry. Typically, most of these products are routed through Dubai and the big traders in Karachi who import these products, from where they are distributed across the country.”

Around 1200 Indian products are not allowed to be imported from India to Pakistan, the only way this can be executed is if the trade happens through a third-party mainly Dubai or Afghanistan.

On the other hand, Clicky.pk is a competitor of Dara.pk which might be acquired by Alibaba soon, if so, Amazon will have platforms to give their rivals a tough time to compete.

As of now, nor Amazon or Clicky.pk have not confirmed or denied this news.

What do you think about this?

A sitting with Feica with Nauman Nabi Ahmed turned out to be a fascinating session with Feica drawing live caricature and throwing light on his journey of cartoons. The signed cartoons drawn by Feica were a rare treat for the participants. Equally entertaining was Art and Rumi in which Mr Rasheed Noorani kept the audience amused with this eloquent narration of Rumi poetry.

The entertaining sessions of Dastaan Goeey by Fawad Khan, live “Fishermen Dance” by Pakistan National Council of Arts and PechaKucha slideshow, a posthumous tribute to legendary artists prepared by Asdaq Hussain and eloquently presented by Akbar Ali were equally engaging.

For the younger artists, the live segment with Akbar Zia encouraged them to observe and sketch caricatures. Live CD painting by Saadia Sohail produced many different designs to create amazing pieces of art. The students of IVSAA painted a mural live at the venue for two days that was later auctioned with proceeds being donated by Nigaah for scholarships for needy art students.

Besides the traditional hand-made ajrak and tile work by Yaqoob and Ghulam Haider Doudpota, the public at large came across truck art paraphernalia by Anjum Rana and items of interest at APWA stalls. For book lovers, Liberty Books, OUP, Vasl and Mohatta Palace had interesting reads on art.

Art installations across the venue enthralled the general public. Curated by Akbar Ali – art consultant, VAD Department, PNCA, the installations comprised works of Abdul Jabbar Gul, A.S. Rind, Manizeh Ali, Obaid-ur-Rehman, Sunaina Telraj and Akbar Ali.  Some of the installations were interactive and involved the general public.

One of the major segments that continued to draw large numbers was the art display by many art galleries inside the halls coupled with Jamil Naqsh Museum. Works of emerging and established artists were up for sale which made the public appreciate art. A special dark room was developed that featured the work of Karachi School of Art titled “DÉJÀ VU CHRONICLES” that showed a kaleidoscopic spectrum of lights on whirling vertex like Chakras in holograms.

The grand finale feature of KAF was the art auction where works of Khusro Subzwari, A.S.Rind, Shanzay Subzwari, Syed A. Irfan, Akram Spaul and Hanif Shahzad were auctioned to raise funds for Nigaah scholarship at IVSAA. Additionally, a mural painted by students of IVSAA was also auctioned to support this scholarship.

Through KAF, art became more accessible to the general public by interacting with paintings and installations and more importantly seeing them up close.

With an aim to bring “Art in Public Domain”, Karachi Art Festival is a festival that will continue to happen in the years to come.

Bay Dardi Drama on ARY Digital: OST, Cast,Timings & Schedule

Four episodes down and Pakistani drama, Bay Dardi has received a positive response from the audience.

The serial highlights the taboo topic of AIDS and explores the issue in a dramatic manner.

Bay Dardi’s Plot Probes An Unconventional Topic

The concept stands out and not just because of the “hush-hush” topic but because it brings awareness to people. It highlights how AIDS is spread in the society i.e not just through physical contact but due to negligence as well.

And that’s where the crux of the story lies.

Shafay (Affan Waheed) is a simple, well-cultured and sober boy who belongs to a very decent family. Living in a hostel for his studies, he ends up meeting Rohail, (Arsalan Faisal) – the only negative influence in his life.

For Rohail, keeping inappropriate relations with girls is not a big deal. This active physical lifestyle results in him becoming an AIDS victim (although he is unaware of that fact).

The story takes a turn when Shafay ends up using Rohail’s razor which transmits the disease to him. Unaware of that fact, he continues leading a normal life.

Here enters Bia (Aiman Khan) – an innocent middle-class girl who is seen suffering from the trauma of her sister’s suicide. She falls in love with Shafay and both end up getting married.

Bay dardi

The story takes a turn when Shafay’s mother Memona (Buhsra Ansari) finds out about her son’s disease and hatches an evil plan against Bia. Disapproving of their marriage, she contrives to break their marriage and show Bia as a characterless girl by blaming her for AIDS transmission to her son.

Unknown to both Shafay and Bia, Memona had known about this truth even before the marriage but had hidden it.

Once the results come out in front of the couple, Shafay ends up blaming Bia who must now face not only her family but the society as well.

Will Bia be able to prove her innocence? What will be the fate of their relationship?

patari ceo khalid bajwa

Patari is a well-known music platform which is quite popular in Pakistan. However, in a recent turn of events, Patari CEO Khalid Bajwa has stepped down after being accused of harassment by not one, but 2 women.

The company made an official statement on their social media platforms, in which it states that Bajwa will no longer be with the platform and that the company will stand by the victims.

They added that the investigation had been ongoing before the allegations had come forward.

Bajwa is openly being criticised for the tweets he had written in the past in regards to females and their orientation.

The women took it to Twitter to express what had been going on. While giving an interview to ET, one of the girls said, “I knew him through Twitter before Patari was even formed. The first time I met him was at Lahore Music Meet (LMM) and he welcomed me with a hug that made me very awkward.”

The other girl had stated, “Bajwa used to force me to meet him. He would make plans that he’d pick me up from college and take me to his office.” She eventually blocked him, after which Bajwa contacted her on Instagram and requested her not to expose him “for the sake of his daughter and wife.”

On the other hand, COO of Patari Ahmer Naqvi said, “Our official statement is the only thing we will be saying right now.”

“I am overwhelmed and amazed at all the love and support. Received very little backlash. What a time to be alive. I regret not opening up about this earlier. Look what happened, girls! So so proud and happy.” one of the girls wrote applauding the effort made by the company.

Written and directed by Adnan Sarwar, the movie will see Sohai playing the lead in this groundbreaking movie.

With the release date just days away, Sohai has been seeing extensively promoting her movie. And apart from the hints we have gotten about the movie, what caught our eye was her dressing style.

Throughout the promotions, we spotted her experimenting with different styles and fabrics – and let us tell you, it’s giving us major fashion goals!

Don’t believe us?

Take a look at some of her stunning ensembles – we are sure you too would be positively swooning with envy!

Said to be the largest international airport of Pakistan, Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Dostain Khan Jamaldini reported that the work on the new airport will begin soon.

Posted by Saeed Rajput on Friday, April 28, 2017

Clearance for financing and execution of the project has been attained by the company nominated by China for the development of the new airport.

Once the project is completed, the airport is said to become the hub of international trade in Pakistan.

This information was disclosed by Jamaldini during the 65th meeting of the Standing Committee on Planning, Development, and Reform.

The China Airport Construction Group Engineering Company’s representative Jianxin Liao has affirmed that the New International Airport in Gwadar will be the biggest airport of Pakistan.

He also went on to talk about the cost of the project and revealed that:

“The expected cost of the project is around $ 2billion however it could vary and it will be finalized after completion of testing and the design phase.”

The soil testing on the land began in January 2018 in which 90 out of 300 boreholes were completed.

The prototype picture of the new airport was revealed on social media and went viral in no time.

With massive projects such as the Gwadar and Islamabad airport, delays tend to arise due to the design and costing approval.

However, the new Gwadar International Airport will be inaugurated on April 20th, 2018.
