PTA Announces New WhatsApp Privacy Policy

Islamabad (January 13, 2021): Keeping in view the concerns by general public regarding recently announced changes in privacy policy of the WhatsApp, following clarifications have been provided by WhatsApp and Facebook:

• The updated Privacy Policy will go into effect on February 8, 2021.
• The rationale for the changes in the WhatsApp privacy policy is to make it easier for people to both make a purchase and get help from a business directly on WhatsApp.
• This update does not impact how people communicate privately with friends or family. WhatsApp is still end-to-end encrypted.
• WhatsApp shares certain categories of data – including account registration information (e.g. phone number), how users interact with others (including businesses), and the user’s IP address – with Facebook for purposes such as promoting safety and integrity, fighting spam, improving infrastructure and delivery systems, and providing integrations which enable users to connect their WhatsApp experiences with other Facebook Company Products and personalizing content (including ads and friend suggestions) across the Facebook Company Products. That has been the case since 2016 and has not changed with this update.
• WhatsApp is making it easier for people to both make a purchase and get help from a business (using WhatsApp Business API) directly on WhatsApp. This change helps reduce onboarding time for businesses from a matter of weeks or months to a matter of minutes.
• Users will be notified within a chat with a business that has chosen to use Facebook or a third-party to manage their WhatsApp messages so they can choose whether to interact with this business.
• Once a user starts using WhatsApp to send messages to businesses using WhatsApp for Business App, the shopping data can be shared with merchants and Facebook to improve their services. It doesn’t mean you will see ads on WhatsApp.
• This has zero impact on private messages and calls with your friends and family – no one can read them except you and the person you’re communicating with – not even WhatsApp or Facebook.
• For the limited categories of data WhatsApp does collect, it takes measures to restrict access to that information. While you may grant WhatsApp access to your contacts to help deliver the messages you send, WhatsApp does not share contact lists with anyone, including Facebook.
• Users who have not accepted the new policies by February 8, 2021 will not lose their accounts, but will need to agree to the updates in order to use their account.

Apparently, an animal entered a police station and frightened everyone out of it! What creature has the capability to pull this off? A lion? No, it was a pig!

The Animal Kingdom

The kingdom is full of various kinds of creatures and animals. They consist of birds as well as ground walkers. More so, there are oceans full of creatures that are extremely interesting to watch. One of these creatures is the pig. It is considered quite an unclean animal, mainly cause of its tendency to eat waste material.

It is one of the reasons that the eating of the pig is forbidden in Islam. Eating its meat can also cause quite a lot of diseases as well as long term health issues. So, what exactly happened? In Moro Police Station today, two pigs barged in the door and started roaming around the station. Reportedly, the staff decided to vacate and gathered outside the building while the pigs wreaked havoc inside!

A Most Unusual Incident

One of the creatures was driven out by the locals of the area and the second was allegedly beaten out of the station. Pigs have become quite a nuisance in recent years as well. During the time of President Musharraf, hunters used to be paid a handsome amount for hunting and killing warthogs and rogue pigs.

These creatures ruin the crops by digging up seeds and then spitting them out. This was quite an unusual incident that occurred today and it is most rare too! Let us hope no more wildlife enters into stations and scares away our protectors!

It is perfectly ordinary to be afraid of a charging animal. There are times when people take bulls as tame animals and when they start chasing, all hell breaks loose. There is a whole festival in Spain which revolves around bulls chasing people. So, it can be considered okay to be afraid of an animal that suddenly entered your premises.

Beware: Househelp In Gulshan, Karachi Poisons Family

At one time, robbers were rampant in Karachi. At any street, you would turn, and you could very well expect someone to be standing with a loaded pistol or a knife. But over the years, the frequency of it has lessened. Now, thieves are the new hit. Did you know that even the househelp in Gulshan is outright drugging or poisoning now?

Well, they are. Last week, a maid in Gulshan cooked food that was laced with poison. The details were:

“This maid was hired by a family friend of ours on 8 January 2021 in Madras Society, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The very next day (i.e., on Saturday), she cooked food which the children did not have, but the parents were unfortunate enough to have eaten that afternoon.

Since the parents were sleeping from after Zuhr beyond Maghrib and did not wake up, they were rushed to the Dow Ojha Campus, where they were diagnosed to have been poisoned. The mother of the household succumbed within two days of being in the ICU, but the father has survived and is still not well.

She has stolen about Rs 5 lac worth of valuables but also deprived someone of their better half. The food she cooked has gone for a lab test, and investigations are underway, but I would like to urge everyone to be vigilant while hiring maids.”

Past Incident

This reminds me of another incident last month. An acquaintance of mine had hired a maid. She was not supposed to cook food, but the rest of the works were her responsibility. So, for instance, she was supposed to clean the house as well as the kitchen. A week later, they asked her to make tea. Everyone fell sleepy after the drink.

When they woke up from the slumber, they groggily found that all their jewelry, the ones she had access to, had been all stolen, and she was nowhere to be found.

So it’s time to be very attentive and wary about the househelp you hire. Do proper investigation before you give access to your family and your valuables.

Pakistan’s current Prime Minister and world-cup winning team captain, Imran Khan, has been voted as the best captain in International Cricket Council’s (ICC) poll on Twitter.

Not only that, but the poll also included Indian captain Virat Kohli, former South African superstar AB De Villiers, and Australian women cricketer Meg Lanning.

On Tuesday, ICC posted a poll on Twitter and asked the cricket fans to decide who they would rate as the best among these giants.

Imran Khan received 47.3 % of votes, Kohli earned 46.2 % votes, De Villiers received only 6.5 %, while Lanning earned only 0.5 %. What’s eye-opening is that in only 24 hours, a total of 536,346 votes were registered.

JazzCash & KASB Securities Join Hands To Promote Retail Investment

Karachi – 12 January 2021: JazzCash, Pakistan’s leading digital payments platform, and KASB Securities, the country’s leading brokerage firm, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote retail investment by easing access to investment products and stock market trading. The MoU was signed by Erwan Gelebart, CEO, JazzCash and Ali Farid Khwaja, Chairman, KASB Securities during a ceremony at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) today.

As per the MoU, KASB Securities will assist JazzCash in offering its customers’ investment access to stocks, exchange-traded funds, gold, government bonds and mutual funds. JazzCash will also work towards integrating KASB Securities’ popular investment application, KTrade, and KASB Varsity, a financial education platform. These new services will be available to JazzCash customers through its app in the second quarter of this year.

This unique collaboration aims to increase financial inclusion and the retail investor base, as currently, less than 0.1% of the population has invested in stocks and mutual funds with very limited access to investment products and financial education.

Speaking about the initiative, Erwan Gelebart, CEO, JazzCash said, “With more than 12 million monthly active users, JazzCash has played a pivotal role in providing safe, reliable and convenient financial services to the masses. By leveraging our technology and a customer-centric approach coupled with KASB Securities’ market expertise, now we are aiming to enable millions of people to start trading to help foster a culture of investment in Pakistan.”

According to Ali Farid Khwaja, Chairman, KASB Securities, “At KASB, our mission is to bring the best investment products, market access and information to the citizens. Recently, a supposed ‘bold’ photoshoot of hers was being bashed. A troll took to Twitter that these photoshoots are the reason for the rapes in the country. Hypocrisy Is Unmatched

The hypocrisy we find in our nation is unmatched. It seems it has become one of our extolling virtues to be a hypocrite! There was a strange comment under Khan’s post in which a young man was confessing that he watches porn, but that is still not as bad as this photo. Why? She talks about how women have to suffer through the periods every month, and by suffering, what are the actual symptoms. And she especially clarifies how for some people, it’s not just one week of pain as is typically assumed. Sometimes people have to suffer for a week before the periods, then during and then sometimes after it as well.

But the point of the post was that the first day of it is the worst. And as men, people around us should try to make life as comfortable for others as they can. Here, she acknowledged the staff at Big Bang, where she is shooting for her project. She said she mentioned about her periods, and the entire team did their best to make the shoot as comfortable as they could.

Toxicity That Surrounds Us

But obviously, people in Pakistan have to make everything toxic. They have to start negative commenting, not realizing how impactful negativity is for others.

So an Insta follower commented, saying that the religion doesn’t allow talking about it. And then she further makes another horrible and judgemental comment. She said, ‘since you (Ushna Shah) don’t know about it (religion), no complaints.’

Yes, everyone saw a pandemic hit their country. It didn’t matter on which side of the world your country was. As of 2021, every continent on the planet has experienced coronavirus. So, what did the world do? How did they try to counter it? They started working on a Vaccine.

Towards the end of 2020, the vaccine made an entrance, and everyone sighed a sense of relief. It felt good to see that there was hope after all. Then, after much trials and testing, it started to be administered towards the general population. In the midst of this came the scammers. These days, we have to be wary of who is providing what. There are quite a lot of fake Vaccine sellers moving about online. In the UK, the NCA found out recently that they were selling Fake Vaccines. These vaccines were either dangerous unknown mixtures or nothing at all. The scammers are said to be targeting elders.

They lure the elders into this scheme where they ask for payment and personal information. After this, they either disappear or send vials of liquid, neither the Vaccine nor healthy. The National Health Service of the UK, a government agency, has issued some points.

One Must Tread Carefully:

These points are beneficial to those currently waiting to be vaccinated. Firstly, the govt administered vaccine has no cost, so if anyone is asking for payment, it is fake. Secondly, the administrators will neither ask you for personal information nor will they show up at your doorstep with a vaccine.

In light of these recent events, we all have to be extremely careful about the vaccine. The world is full of people hell-bent on making it a terrible place to live for other people.
