The automotive universe is quite an interesting one. It is quite vast and encompasses a lot of the latest technology being used everywhere. You might be a bit surprised to know that vehicles are now moving towards complete autonomy.

Passing Tesla:

It does seem, from the information we have, that the Mercedes is bounds ahead. It has a huge infotainment display which stretches across the length of the dashboard. The dashboard then transitions towards the rest of the car in a smooth manner, making it hard to distinguish when one starts and the other ends. This is quite new because, in other cars, one can tell that a lot of stuff has been stacked on the dashboard. The interior also has enough lighting capabilities to throw a party in the car.

The car itself, as the brand mentions, is light years ahead in a luxurious interior, as compared to Tesla and older Mercedes models. The infotainment system runs off an octa core CPU and 24GB of ram. This is ample to handle all the computing power that the car can dish out. The EQS is said to have a range of more than 700 kilometers, on a single charge. This is quite a lot of rnage or a car and can last for many days at a time, considering the commute is within the city.

Additionally, it is said to be unveiled on April 15th and will appear on the U.S market later in 2021.

It took nearly a decade to build this mosque and it is one of the most attractive mosques ever seen. There is an apparent hint of the golden ratio that resonates all across the place. Its design is also inspired by a typical Bedouin tent.

While it is an attractive building to look at, it is also one of the most important places of worship. This complex yet beautiful design has landed the mosque in a list of most beautiful buildings in the world. It is quite impressive to know that the Faisal mosque lies in the top 50! We have ranked number 16 on this list, with the St. Paul’s Cathedral being at the top.

Nestlé Pakistan Awarded 1st Prize At Living The Global Compact Best Practice Sustainability Awards

Nestlé Pakistan won the first prize at Living the Global Compact Best Practice Sustainability Awards 2020, for the fifth consecutive time, announced by local chapter of UN Global Compact Network, for its continuous commitment towards UN SDGs and the ten principles of the UNGC embedded in the way it conducts business.

This recognition signifies Nestlé Pakistan’s commitment and dedication to the UN SDGs. As a signatory to the UN Global Compact for Ethical Business, we are committed to the communities for mutual growth and sustainability,” said Samer Chedid, CEO Nestlé Pakistan on the occasion.

“Nestlé believes in the philosophy of creating shared value (CSV). Our purpose is to unlock the power of food to enhance the quality of life for everyone, today and for generations to come, and hence CSV is embedded in our business model across our value chain,” he added.

Speaking about the company’s recent CSV and sustainability initiatives, Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs & Sustainability, Nestlé Pakistan said, “As part of our vision, for a waste-free future, we have committed to make 100% of our packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025. We have partnered with World Bank and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to promote Responsible Tourism in the region by driving new behavior through community engagement, cleanup activities, trainings and promoting recycling of packaging waste.”

As part of its sustainability journey, Nestlé Pakistan Caring for Water (C4W) initiative, with its collective action approach, partnered with organisations in government, academia and non-profit, to address the shared water challenges and installed drip irrigation in farming community to save 428 million liters annually, consistent with SDGs 6 and 17.

Meanwhile, the Nestlé-BISP Rural Women Sales Program has helped graduate 1500 BISP beneficiaries out of poverty by imparting them sales trainings and empowering them economically, in line with UN SDGs 3 and 5 – Good Health & Wellbeing and Gender Equality.

Also, our global initiative, our global initiative, Nestlé for Healthier Kids (N4HK), has raised nutritional awareness among more than 250,000 children and has trained over 1300 teachers in 310 schools across Pakistan, to achieve our commitment to UN SDG 3 (Good Health & Well Being).

Before starting any venture, we tend to list down all of our inabilities convincing ourselves on the fact that “we’re just not good enough” As research from Cornell University concluded: women are less self-assured than men – and that to succeed, confidence matters as much as competence.

In today’s day and age, more women are taking up employment and are striving to achieve an equal world, yet the global total entrepreneurial activity rate for women is 10.2%, about three-quarters of that for men. Many external factors like unequal opportunities, lack of facilities and representation make up a ceiling that blocks women’s growth in climbing the corporate ladder. But more importantly, one of the biggest factors of this glass ceiling is internalized: the self-doubt that is inherent in most women.

Voltswagen: Poorly Planned April Fool Stunt May Cost The Company

The automotive brand Volkswagen has been in the industry for the past 66 years. It has made quite a name for itself. But then out of the blue, they let it circulate in the media that they are changing the name of the brand to Voltswagen in the United States. The company said that this was to show their focus on the increasing presence of electric cars.

They even took to Twitter stating the same and as you can see they even changed the name on the account. That said, the new name was never registered with the database.

This created a lot of hype as reporters and publications covered this news and even approached the company for confirmation. One USA Today reporter also took to his social media calling it, ‘official,’ of course after confirming from his VW sources who replied in affirmative for the name change.

Nope. April Fool!

But once everyone was talking about it, the company came forward saying it was only a prank for April Fool Day. CNBC reporter said:

The company said to an international publication that: “Volkswagen of America will not be changing its name to Voltswagen. The renaming was designed to be an announcement in the spirit of April Fool’s Day, highlighting the launch of the all-electric ID.4 SUV and signaling our commitment to bringing electric mobility to all. We will provide additional updates on this matter soon.”

But the fallout of this prank has been and will continue to be huge because as part of this prank, the company has enraged quite a number of journalists by lying to them. Especially the USA Today report was super pissed as you can see from his later tweets.

He even referred to a past event where Volkswagen had to pay billions of dollars in penalties for deceiving their customers.

All over the internet, people are saying how the company took the joke a little too far. And it may not be the best way to do things for a company that has had credibility issues in the past.

Many brands do take part in April Fool campaigns. And honestly, it may just be luck, which brand is able to cash on it and which is not. But if you have had trouble of similar nature in the past, then it is better to focus on other marketing tactics especially since you can afford to.

Dubai Announces First Airport Tax on Passengers

The emirate of Dubai, whose airport is the world’s busiest for international passengers, announced Wednesday it was introducing a tax on travellers to help finance expansion, as Gulf governments grapple with plummeting revenues.

The 35-dirham ($9.50) fee will apply to all passengers, including those transitting in Dubai, on all flights from June 30, according to a statement carried by WAM state news agency.

It is the first time Dubai has announced a passenger tax, which is imposed in many airports worldwide.

More than 78 million passengers passed through Dubai International in 2015, keeping its place as the world’s busiest for international passengers since overtaking London Heathrow in 2014.

Last month, Dubai Airports increased the capacity of its main airport to 90 million passengers with the opening of concourse D, at a cost of $1.2 billion.

Dubai has a smaller second airport, Al-Maktoum International, which opened in 2013 and will receive 120 million passengers a year once completed.

The receipts of the new tax will be channelled into funding the expansion of Dubai airports, the statement said.Dubai

Although part of the oil-rich United Arab Emirates, Dubai has dwindling oil wealth, and its revenues are diversified compared to its oil-dependent Gulf peers.

But the whole region is struggling to cope with a sharp drop in oil revenues since crude prices nosedived.

Situated on transcontinental air routes, Dubai is one of several Gulf-based airports to experience prodigious growth in recent years.

Around 100 airlines fly to more than 240 destinations from the international hub, which is also home to carrier Emirates.

Pepsi India is all set to launch a new version of the classic carbonated drink. Yes, you heard that right! PepsiCo has announced that they are formulating a new recipe for a carbonated drink. The new recipe will contain comparatively less sugar and more fizziness.

The move is made to stay market competitive with Coke and ThumsUp, as they traditionally have less sugar on their drinks, says the Pepsi officials. The launch of the new version is set to take place in the summer quarter April-June. At this time, the sales of the packaged beverages industry in India account for Rs 28,000 crore. Out of which, the estimate of cola is at 9,800 crores.

Pepsi’s Statement 

“Pepsi has traditionally been a sweeter drink, compared with rivals Coke and ThumsUp. This is a move is made to close in on the category leader ThumsUp and comes on the eve of the crucial summer quarter this year. After last year’s near washout quarter that coincided with the peak lockdown,” an official directly aware of the matter said in an interview. However, the drink has now turned ‘more refreshing,’ said a spokesperson from PepsiCo.

Why Was Chinese Liquor Company Allowed To Manufacture In Pakistan?

[Update]: With CPEC activities on this rise in Pakistan, the country has seen an influx of Chinese citizens. Considering most of them are non-Muslims and have a lifestyle that includes liquor, the Chinese company, Hui Coastal Brewery will be accommodating that population.

Knowing that the citizens start backlash on anything remotely linked to alcohol even though there is a brewery at Hub and also, a lot of liquor is illegally imported, authorities have assured that only the Chinese community will get the liquor from the Hui Coastal Brewery. Moreover, this brewery will lead to the creation of employment opportunities for Pakistanis as well as lots of tax generation.



[March 29th, 2021]: A Chinese company has gotten a license in Pakistan to produce something that will surprise you entirely! 

Liquor Being Produced Legitimately?

A Chinese company has managed to officially get a license in Pakistan to manufacture liquor locally. The company, called Hui Coastal Brewery and Distillery Limited, officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) last year.

On April 30th in 2020 the license was retained for an address in Balochistan.

A Joint Venture?

To add to your surprise, this is actually a part of a joint venture with Balochistan. It appears the headquarters or the factories will be located at the Lasbela Industrial Estate Development Authority. 

The license to produce liquor locally by the Hui Coastal Brewery was issued by Excise, Taxation and Anti-Narcotics Department in Balochistan. Is the “anti-narcotics” department working to have liquor produce naturally so illegal imports of liquor are reduced?

About the Hui Brewery

The brewery coming to Pakistan soon is the first Chinese company to be establishing its plant in Pakistan. China can be called a hub of liquor production which is why it’s settlement here can lead to great revenues for Pakistan.

The company is renowned for producing some of the most famous names in the liquor industry and it is set to introduce two famous ones here. What is interesting is how the entire process from manufacturing to Pakistan will be done in Lasbela.

What To Feel About it?

This news is bound to invite a variety of responses from the common people. However, some of the ‘pros’ include a huge number of jobs created and prospects of livelihood for previously poverty-stricken people. Greater revenue generation in Balochistan’s less-developed region. This can also act as a signal to other large MNC’s to set up their operations in Pakistan too hence, create a landscape conducive of investments.

However, it is crucial to note that in the long-run, MNC’s actually drain money out of the country. Moreover, the increasingly specialised jobs they will train the labour in will have no use if this company decides to shut down. So, who is helping who?

The Lyceum School Goes To Court Over Registration Suspension

The drastic effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic do not seem to subside at all. Even so, we keep finding different sectors being affected. Another sector that has suffered most from the pandemic is the education sector. Students having to adapt to online education. Parents having to pay a hefty amount of sums in the name of registrations and fees. The education sector of Pakistan is distressing, resulting in many students dropping off schools.

A similar matter is now under the radar where the future of hundreds of students is at stake. As the Sindh Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions suspended the registration of The Lyceum School. The decision was taken in light of Supreme Court orders’ violations and failure to comply with directives issued in light of the pandemic.

The Reason For The Notice 

The Lyceum was given the notice of school suspension in light of not complying with the pandemic regulations. The school did not give students a 20 percent fee relaxation from April to September 2020. Besides, it charges a registration fee that amounts to more than three months’ tuition fee. The school also failed to implement the mandatory rule under Article 13 of the Sindh Private Institutions (Regulation & Control) 2005, which provides 100 percent scholarship to 10 percent of the students enrolled. However, the directorate has allowed the current session to be completed in time for their exams.

The Response From The Lyceum

The school administration took to Facebook to deliver the response regarding the matter, stating, “It is unfortunate that the school is now going to have to take the matter to court.” Regretting the timing of the directorate’s notification, “coming at the end of a full year of pandemic teaching, and right before the student’s mocks and CAIE examinations,” she maintained that for the school’s faculty and administration, the wellbeing of its 650 students was its only concern.

The School administration also stated that the notices were responded from the school’s council. However, all attempts to meet the education minister to talk about this face to face were in vain.

Amidst the dispute between the school administration and education directorate, it’s the students suffering the most given their unforeseen future.

Nike Sues Company That Made ‘Satan Shoes’ With Human Blood

Can you imagine buying Nike shoes full of real human blood? That’s been happening recently and the mega-company has filed a lawsuit against it!

The Down Low

Some workplaces in the US encourage employees to donate blood as a form of charity. However, a few workers at a quirky company called MSCHF volunteered to give their blood for a customized Nike line of shoes. 

The idea was that they would mix a drop of blood with ink and inject it into the air bubble in Nike shoes (Nike Air Max 97) so that the entire sole looks red. This was, unfortunately, done, sold and worn!

Hear From Them!

“‘Sacrificed’ is just a cool word — it was just the MSCHF team that gave the blood,” one of MSCHF’s founders, Daniel Greenberg, noted in an email on Sunday. When the founder was asked who collected the blood, his response was: “Uhhhhhh yeah hahah not medical professionals we did it ourselves lol.”

MSCHF sold up to 666 pairs of shoes with each pair costing above $1000. This was the “darker rendition” of the “Holy Shoes” they were selling earlier which contained Holy Water. If you criticising the makers for making them, criticise those who buy this too. The shoes sold out in less than a minute.

In Collaboration with A Rapper

If it was not obvious so far, the shoes were actually created in collaboration with a rapper. The rapper named Little Nas X after he released a devil-themed music video “Montero” in which he shows himself “enjoying” with Satan. 

Lil Nas X  then posted a video on YouTube titled “Lil Nas X Apologizes for Satan Shoe”. However, what appears to be an apology cuts to the sexually charged scene with Satan from the music video.

Where Does Nike Come?

Nike responded to the uproar created over the shoes and the use of religious concepts so vulgarly by the company and the rapper. The founder of the company noted that Nike was not involved in the process “in any capacity.” However, Nike rushed to clear their image themself too.

In a statement, Nike said: “We do not have a relationship with Little Nas X or MSCHF. Nike did not design or release these shoes, and we do not endorse them.” News suggests that they have filed a lawsuit over their products being used in a way that damages their reputation.
