The counterfeit business has been gaining popularity incredibly over the last few years. That is primarily because the retailers started utilising social media to increase their reach. Previously, they only had hidden stores in nooks and crannies of popular markets.
However, to their dismay, this also means that they come under the radar of the original brands who do not tolerate this. Counterfeit business damages not only the original brand’s reputation but also its sales. So what is Gucci up to?
Lawsuit Filed in California
With earnings in billions for both, one can only imagine the team of lawyers Gucci and Facebook have brought to the table. The two have filed a joint lawsuit in California against a woman using Facebook to sell fake Gucci.
In a statement put forth by Gucci, they noted that in collaboration with Facebook they have identified the defendant using multiple accounts. Said multiple accounts on Facebook and Instagram are being used to sell counterfeit products.
“More than one million pieces of content were removed from Facebook and Instagram in the first half of 2020. This was based on thousands of reports of counterfeit content from brand owners, including Gucci,” the statement divulged. It also told that in 2020 only Gucci’s in-house intellectual property team found four million online counterfeit product listings.
Setting New Legal Trends?
Though this is not the first time a company has gone after its counterfeit counterpart, it is the first time for Gucci and Facebook. Moreover, this is a unique example being set because it shows that as the counterfeit business becomes modern, so can the solutions being taken.
However, a social media company and a designer label coming together is not unprecedented. Amazon has previously backed Valentino and Ferragamo to halt the proliferation of counterfeit products sold via social media.
What’s Causing This Spike?
Though for the original companies this is a condemnable action, it has its own background. Online sales of counterfeit luxury handbags, shoes, and garments have spiked because the pandemic has reduced the affordability of original products.

According To Research, A Neurological Condition Has Been Linked To Covid-19
The coronavirus can cause a neurological condition in human hosts. It has been associated with the development of neuropsychiatric symptoms. These include seizure activity, encephalomyelitis, acute flaccid paralysis, cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome as cerebrovascular disease.
Last year ten reports of acute transverse myelitis (ATM) attributed to SARS-CoV2, and others were submitted to study the correlation between both. However, the study now suggests that the chances of a person getting an ATM are relatively positive after getting infected with the virus. The research was done after a case was discovered in Panama.
About The Neurological Condition
Transverse myelitis is an inflammation of the spinal cord and can be caused by infections, immune system disorders, and other disorders that may damage or destroy myelin. Myelin serves as a defensive sheath that allows electrical impulses to transmit quickly and efficiently along with the nerve cells.
It is to be noted that there is no cure for transverse myelitis. The treatment is aimed at addressing symptoms and managing complications.
The Researchers Statement
“We found ATM to be an unexpectedly frequent neurological complication of COVID-19,” write the researchers. “Most cases (68 percent) had a latency of 10 days to 6 weeks. That may indicate post-infectious neurological complications mediated by the host’s response to the virus.”
“This review confirms that ATM is not uncommon as a neurological complication associated with COVID-19 infection around the world. It is responsible perhaps for 1.2 percent of all neurological complications caused by this coronavirus.” Researchers concluded.
The team also noted that three ATM cases occurred in Astra-Zeneca vaccine trials.”The pathogenesis of ATM remains unknown, but it is conceivable that SARS-CoV-2 antigens – perhaps also present in the AZD1222 COVID-19 vaccine or its chimpanzee adenovirus adjuvant – may induce immune mechanisms leading to the myelitis,” they write.
Further studies will help find more answers and the antigens involved. However, it’s important to note that we’re still a long way from understanding everything that COVID-19 brings with it, even as vaccines roll out across the world.

India And Neighbors Get Hit By A 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake
In the early hours of today, 28th April, India faced a high magnitude earthquake. The seismology department in India has calculated it to be of up to 6.4 Richter scales. This earthquake hit the country at 2:21 GMT which is 7:51 am India time and the quake has damaged some of the buildings as well.
The origin of the earthquake is being triangulated in Assam and was felt throughout Northeast India.

There were other neighboring countries that also experienced this earthquake. They were Myanmar, Bhutan, China, and Bangladesh.
The tremors post-earthquake (aftershocks) were felt twice; once at 7:58 am and another at 8:01.
The United States Geological Survey said, “The quake hit at a depth of 34 km (21 miles) near the town of Dhekiajuli, 140 km (86 miles) north of the main city of Guwahati.”
A resident businessman in Guwahati reported to Reuters, “Our entire multi-storied apartment has witnessed massive damage with roofs and walls caving in. Luckily no one got injured.”
Considering India is already facing harsh times due to COVID and its increasing hold on the masses, the fact that it has to experience an earthquake of such a high magnitude is cause for concern.

Apple’s AirDrop Could Leak Users’ Personal Data
Whenever a new product is released, feedback is given by the public. They are tasked with figuring out the good and bad points of said product. The surest way to get good feedback is to not release the product late. This means not to release a product after its launch date.
Now, every application and product can have loopholes or dangerous side effects. It seems that Apple’s AirDrop also has vulnerability inside it. While this may not be entirely surprising information, it is certainly alarming for routine AirDrop users. No one wants to have an open dangerous anomaly in their phone system.
AirDrop is an application that has been made specifically for Apple users. If you have an Apple product, be it the mac or the iPhone, AirDrop is a must built-in feature. It allows IOS users to transfer and share files with each other at great speed.
AirDrop makes use of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It uses encrypted transfer techniques to make sure the files themselves aren’t compromised. However, there is a vulnerability present that can compromise the user’s device or their own personal information.
AirDrop Exposure:
The application itself makes use of hash functions when transferring files. During this, the hash functions exchange mobile numbers and email addresses of the user. Anyone who has set their file receiving settings to ‘Everyone’ is highly at risk. Additionally, if your share sheet is open when you are looking to connect with other devices, you are also at risk.
While the number and email are encrypted, a hacker close to the device, with Wi-Fi, can decrypt those encryptions. This means that you have to be quite careful when you use AirDrop. You never know when someone may be passing nearby with malicious intentions.
This exposure in AirDrop’s system was reported to Apple back in 2019. However, Apple did not respond or reply to the query and thus, it went unnoticed. Now, it seems to have sprung back up.
Safety First:
There are two possible scenarios under which a phone’s data can be leaked. The first one is, you keep your share sheet out in the open. The second is the hacker keeps their share sheet out in the open.
The second one is less likely to get a catch because the base is a lot smaller. So, the next time you use AirDrop, be very careful on which info to keep public and which to keep private. Additionally, always keep a strict eye around you as walls have ears too.
You never know when a simple song or photo exchange may end up costing you your user data. Finally, we hope that Apple finds a way to close this loophole, of sorts. LSA Board Of Governors Realign Award Categories
KARACHI: As the LUX Style Awards announced categories last week for the 20th LUX Style Awards, the Board of Governors’ for 2021 met to discuss the way forward (for the 21st Awards) for the country’s most recognised Awards event.
The Board of Governors for Pakistan’s most established Awards show in 2021 includes Aamna Haider Isani (Fashion), Hasan Zaidi (Film), Malahat Awan (Music) and Raheel Rao (Television). They discussed ways to modernise and update the age-old institution by initiating critical changes and realignment in award categories. All changes come into effect from next year (2022) to allow participants to absorb all changes and work towards their respective portfolios.
The category for Best Fashion Photographer will be recategorized to be inclusive of all imagery and will be called Best Visual Artist to recognise fashion videos as well as still photography. The criteria for judging will include Originality of Concept, Creativity in Execution and Technical Expertise of fashion shoots/campaigns.
Says Aamna Isani, “Fashion is a rapidly evolving realm and with the digital revolution upon us, it is unfair to restrict the fashion visual to still photography alone. Covering the many modes of expression, Best Visual Artist will include photographers and videographers who are conceptualising content for print as well as digital mediums.”
The Film category will include an addition of Best Film Score to be a category from the year 2022 for the 21st LUX Style Awards. Hasan Zaidi said, “In every major film award, the overall score of a film (songs + background score) is what is judged since that is what a film jury instinctively feels while assessing a film and because that has a direct impact on the perception of the film as well.
“Moreover a Musical Score is judged not only on its standalone quality as music but also with reference to how that music fits in with the rest of the film. The jury will be looking for appropriate themes, enhancement of scenes and emotions, enhancement of another element to the perception of the film. The criteria for judging would be Musical Quality and Arrangement, Appropriateness/Contribution to Film Narrative, Songs Memorability and Background Score Usage.
“The film music category needs to be taken as a whole and for the award to be designated to the Film’s Music Director/s.”
NCOC Issues Guidelines For The Ongoing Cambridge Exams
Cambridge Exams are already underway for Pakistani students. While Cambridge may have given lax treatment to other countries and opted for no exams in the UK as well, they have not given any such option to Pakistan.
COVID and Cambridge Exams
So in order to ensure that the students don’t lose out on an academic year to COVID, the government is trying to accommodate the exams as best as possible. And all this alongside the pressure from students who did not want to go ahead with the exam in such troubling times. NCOC (National Command and Operations Centre) has thus issued regulations for SOP implementation. They have instructed the concerned parties linked with these examinations to make sure that SOPs for coronavirus is being followed.

Shafqat Mehmood, the Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training has wished all the appearing students who have chosen to appear now and not postponed it for the October/November session all the very best of luck. He has acknowledged that these are tough times and difficult decisions were made for the sake of students.

NCOC on the pandemic and exams
Asad Umar and National Coordinator Lieutenant General Hamood-Uz-Zaman Khan co-chaired the NCOC session. In the session, NCOC announced that these exams were being conducted on the orders of the Ministry of Education.
One of the orders by NCOC was that each centre would allow only 50 students. And that no parents to be allowed inside the venue.

Honda Going Full Electric And Hydrogen Fueled By 2040
Many car brands occupy the roads of Pakistan today. If we look back three decades, we may not have had twice as many brands as we do now. The world is moving at such a brisk pace that no one wants to be left behind. We are all headed towards a clean energy era, filled with electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. One of the titans, Honda, has also decided to make such a goal as their primary target. Honda intends to move towards full electric and hydrogen soon.
While it may not seem as advanced right now, electric technology has come a long way since Edison. It has actually been discussed by historians that Edison and Ford had plans to move forward with an electric vehicle. However, after the prototype was built, the car was never entered into production.
This is mostly because the vehicle was expensive and inconvenient at the time. Then, after many decades of sitting quietly, the concept rose yet again. Today, electric-powered vehicles are one of the hottest topics and only seem to be going higher from here.
Honda setting sewer aims:
Like a lot of car brands today, Honda has also decided to join in the electric race. While they may not be immersed in it a lot, they have certainly started to shift in that direction. The mere production of hybrid cars shows that people are willing to work towards electricity.
Honda Freed is considered one of the best vehicles to ever hit the road. It is not only fit for the family; the fuel average is enough to take friends along too. So, what is the aim of the company?
According to sources, Honda intends to shift to electric and hydrogen by 2040. This means that they will completely stop the production of petrol and diesel vehicles. Long gone will be the days when cars require exhaust pipes and engine blocks. They intend to shift 40% by 2030, 80% by 2035 and 100% by 2040. This seems like quite a reasonable goal and one that can be pursued.
Moving towards clean energy:
Apart from this, the brand is also aiming to be carbon neutral by 2050. It is barely 2021 and they have already set plans for three decades from now. This shows how much they are progressing in terms of forward-thinking.
However, this means that the company will invest quite a hefty sum in research and development. It seems like a justified investment because there can be no progress without research. Hydrogen fuel cell technology is still relatively new and a lot of it is under testing right now.
While Musk may refer to it as not the right kind of technology, it is certainly proven otherwise. The hydrogen boot is one impressive vehicle. Maybe we see the sale of hydrogen fuel cells sometime in the future. It is no longer impossible to imagine a future where combustion engines are history.

Proton Set To Launch The X50 SUV In Pakistan Soon
Wherever there are humans, development is set to take place. At the end of the day, what counts is the ability for someone to get through the day itself. In Pakistan, we see lots and lots of development being done every day. Whether it is the pop culture department or the technological one, progress does not stop. In terms of automobiles, Proton has decided to launch a new SUV, also coming to Pakistan soon. Yes, we are referring to the new Proton X50 SUV.
It can be quite interesting to note the name of the brand itself. It has this science-like feel to it and it gives off a premium vibe. Driving the X70 can be no small accomplishment as it is one impressive vehicle. It is not only known for its comfortable drive but also the strength beneath the hood.
Despite there being many other brands present, Proton has managed to make a mark quite high in the market. Right now, it seems to be one of the hottest vehicle brands and everyone wants to drive it.
Releasing Proton X50:
While this may sound like a predecessor, it is not one at all. It is definitely newer than the X70 and may even have features that surpass the X70. Firstly, the Proton X50 has a similar feel to it as Honda HR-V and Nissan Juke. It may not be as huge as some SUVs but it can certainly hold its own in battle.
Talking about the engine, the vehicle runs on a 1.5-litre turbocharged one. It has three cylinders alongside a 7-speed DCT transmission. You can forget about driving slow when it comes to this vehicle unless your wish is to drive slowly.
While it is an entry-level crossover SUV, it still has a whole plethora of features and functions. You can never get tired of trying out new things in this vehicle. It has a total of six airbags alongside ABS, Hill hold assist, 360-degree camera. Additionally, there is AEB, lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, as well as auto park, assist. You can spend quite a lot of hours just going through the many features of the Proton X50.
New Horizons:
While this may not be the biggest vehicle on the market, it is certainly a good one. It can definitely give its counterparts a run for their money. You may not even be able to feel the road bumps when driving this one. Its price is expected to be around Rs.31 lac, on the base level variant. The highest it is expected to go could be Rs.41 lac and that is still less than a lot of SUVs on the market.
We hope that Proton continues to release such vehicles under its banner. It is a new day in Pakistan for the automotive industry and we feel proud to see the progress. With the stellantis group coming to Pakistan, we may expect newer and newer vehicles touching the streets every day.

Promoting your products on the digital medium has become the need of the time. Pakistani brands are actively using the medium, given its popularity amongst the target market. This is why you will see a number of digital-focused ad agencies because brands need professional help to craft digital marketing campaigns. But shouldn’t the first rule of marketing, digital or otherwise, be that the content is consumable?
As it turns out, not so much for these brands, whoever they are getting their copy written from.

Screenshots of a few brand’s campaigns went viral a few days ago, and people were utterly shocked. These brands included Ethnic By Outfitters, Crimson, and Limelight. While the posts for the first two are still available, it seems that Limelight has removed the post amidst backlash.

“Revolutionary in thought, conventional in manner…”
“Enliven your westerly wardrobe.”

If you haven’t yet picked up a dictionary, well then, this campaign may have been drafted just for you. Otherwise, people all over social media were in fits of confused laughter.

People had a number of opinions relating to this. While some thought that bots had been employed to come up with the copy, others assumed it to have been plagiarized from novels. Some even joked that they’d need a dictionary before forming an opinion which was a strong opinion itself.

The Recent Video
Another video has recently gone viral where we can see an Indian police officer reciting the famous qawwali Bhar Do Jholi by none other than the Sabri brothers. The qawwali was originally written by Poornam Allahabadi, born in 1940 in Allahabad, British India. The Sabri brothers were struggling qawwals back then.
Then they met the writer over a cup of tea and the rest is history. As they say, art has no boundaries. This expression of the policemen shows the importance of how we should step aside from the religious differences in these trying times.
