The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and COLABS have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further their partnership in Lahore, on May 12, 2023. The MoU places a strong emphasis on developing capacities, exchanging knowledge, and raising awareness about important subjects such as financial capabilities, business planning, business valuation, financial modeling, business ethics, governance frameworks, and investment management.

In the presence of top management from both organizations, the MoU was signed in Lahore by Assad Hameed Khan, Head of Pakistan for ACCA, and Omar Shah, Founder & CEO of COLABS.

‘The MoU with ACCA provides the guiding principles for various activities to enhance cooperation between ACCA and COLABS in building the financial capacity of COLAB’s partner organizations. This includes the organization of capacity-building workshops and webinars to disseminate information about both organizations’ mandates and scope of activities. The MoU also includes awareness sessions for COLABS partner organizations on different programs, such as the ACCA Approved employer program and ACCA learning certificates,’ said Omar Shah.

Assad Hameed Khan, Head of ACCA Pakistan, highlighted: ‘This partnership provides an outreach and opportunities platform for COLAB’s partner organizations, not only to upskill but also to understand their professional role in contributing to the economy of Pakistan.’

‘We look forward to working closely with ACCA to leverage our respective strengths to foster economic growth and development in Pakistan,’ added Omar Shah.

The MoU that COLABS and ACCA signed paves the way for more collaboration between the two organizations to create a calendar and plan events and activities independently or jointly for the benefit of the respective stakeholders.

On Tuesday, 9th May, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan was arrested by the official authorities of the country. The majority of Pakistan’s citizens are big supporters of Imran Khan and his political party so to show their anger, disappointment, and disagreement with the decision of the authorities, they started to call that day “Black Day”. What no one knew was that from 9th May till today, the 12th would literally go black because of a complete internet blockade nationwide.

Soon after the arrest, the country showed severe signs of the aftermath, and leaked videos and clips of the arrest and other riots happening started circulating openly on different Internet platforms. Just after a few hours so, Twitter was completely shut down and could not be accessed. YouTube and Instagram soon followed. And as if this wasn’t enough, the wifi and TV cable services and mobile broadband services were soon cut off too.

Citizens were left with no access to the world with more than half of the Internet being shut down so as an alternative they switched to different VPN services. But unfortunately, the primary digital payment systems in Pakistan witnessed a decline of approximately 50% in point-of-sale transactions. In addition, it is anticipated that the information technology (IT) industry may incur daily losses ranging from $3 to $4 million.

Internet Update

With the Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which deems the arrest of Khan on May 9th as illegal and directs him to seek further guidance from the Islamabad High Court on Friday, there is hope that internet services may finally resume after more than 72 hours. However, Malhat Ubaid, the Director of Public Relations of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, stated that there have been no recent directives received from the Ministry of Interior regarding the restoration of internet services which suggests that the connections may not be reinstated in the near future.

According to Rana Sanaullah, the Federal Interior Ministry’s response to a query about the resumption of internet services throughout Pakistan, the decision to restore the services will be based on an analysis of reports from various intelligence agencies.

PKR Hits Record Low As Economic Crisis Deepens

During the early hours of intraday trade today, the Pakistani rupee experienced a sharp decline, with the interbank rate dropping by Rs. 10 to reach a low of 300.25 by 1:30 PM, representing a 3.3% decrease. The open market rates at various currency counters also reached highs of 310-315 after initial offers for the US dollar started at 306. Furthermore, sellers have been hesitant to trade the greenback due to the uncertain outlook for the top foreign currency.

As a result of all of this, US Dollars are currently not available in the open market.

Sources have revealed that the Pakistani currency is in sync with the current political turmoil that has taken hold of the local markets. The situation has worsened since the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday by paramilitary forces at Islamabad High Court. The black market rate has moved closer to the bank rate and is trading within the 310-320 band.

Currency dealers have predicted a further decline in the rupee with nationwide protests and state interference continuing to erode investor confidence. In addition, disappointing inflation forecasts and mixed stock market data have contributed to the worsening economic slowdown, leading to a low-to-negative range in the exchange rate. The PKR collapse has raised doubts about the exchange rate’s rebound and soured participation in money markets.

ChatGPT is a powerful AI language model that has revolutionized the way we interact with machines. It can generate natural-sounding language, answer complex questions, and even hold a conversation like a human being. However, it’s just technology so it can’t do everything. There are certain limitations to what ChatGPT can do.

For example, it may be a master of language, but it can’t replace the ingenuity, creativity, and empathy of a real person. ChatGPT can’t experience emotions or interpret non-verbal cues, I mean a lot of humans can’t do that either nowadays but you get the point. Anyway, let’s see what else it can’t do.

1. It Cannot Remember Its Own Name

ChatGPT occasionally shows signs of malfunctioning and forgets its own name or gives responses that are not related to the topic at all. Sometimes, on some topics, ChatGPT will start babbling about not having any knowledge of it and will even forget that it is an AI chatbot. Technical difficulties or some other issue?

2. It Can’t Write Anything After 2021

ChatGPT cannot generate text beyond the year 2021. ChatGPT’s language model is based on recent data, but this data needs to have a cutoff point, which for ChatGPT is the year 2021. So basically if you ask it anything after September 2021 ChatGPT is kind of useless. Similarly, it has no knowledge of current events or real-world situations.

3. It Does Not Discuss Politics

ChatGPT refrains from discussing politics. It never comments on partisan politics and avoids taking sides in any political debate. It simply refuses to answer the question. But however, it does provide information on political events and people with a political background but it refrains from expressing any preference for one party or position over another.

4. It Won’t Try To Break Its Programming

ChatGPT will not attempt to try to get around its programming. Since ChatGPT’s release, users, especially students, have tried to find loopholes in its limitations and safety features. Asking ChatGPT to ignore its safety features will not work. However, jailbreaking may be an option. For example, if you ask ChatGPT to perform a function it should not, it will respond with the automated response like it always does. But, if you ask ChatGPT to perform its regular functions and then perform another function while behaving differently, it can do so.

5. It Cannot Predict The Future

ChatGPT cannot predict the future or else it would’ve been a time machine. This limitation is because one, reality exists and not everything can be AI-generated, and two, because of ChatGPT’s reliance on limited and current data only. Additionally, OpenAI wants to avoid liability for errors, so ChatGPT cannot predict the future. Jailbreaking ChatGPT may offer a good guess but that might decrease the accuracy so make sure to do your own research first!

6. It Can’t Search The Internet

ChatGPT is also not able to search the internet. You may ask it to look up anything for you and it will fail to do so. Unlike Siri, it cannot look up anything on the Internet. This is one of the key differences between ChatGPT and Google Bard.

ChatGPT cannot search the internet in any capacity, whereas Google Bard was created as a modern AI chatbot that can easily search the internet. But yet again, Google did also have Google Assistant so there’s no surprise there! Therefore, if you want to look something up, you’ll have to do it yourself.
