Unusual ‘Not-Out’ Call in Cricket Goes Viral

Cricket has its share of mind-boggling moments, often involving unusual dismissals or not-out or lesser-known rules that surprise even the most avid fans.

We have recently witnessed Angelo Mathews’ Time-Out dismissal during the World cup, which stunned the fans.

Now, the fans are shocked over an unusual ‘not-out’ decision because it challenges the cricket intellect of a casual fan.

In a recent ACT third-grade match between Western Districts and Ginninderra in Canberra, an unusual incident unfolded.

The ball hit the wicket, however, the middle stump was not removed from the ground while bails were also not dislodged. To everyone’s surprise, the umpires didn’t declare it out.

As per Law 29.1 in the MCC Laws of cricket, a batter is only out if the bail is entirely removed or if one or more stumps are entirely uprooted.

“According to Law 29.1, the wicket is broken when at least one bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or one or more stumps is removed from the ground,” the law states.

Cricket ACT shared an image of the moment on X (formerly Twitter) and called on fans to explain this uncommon occurrence.

Their caption read, “Things you don’t see every day… Explain this one from a Ginninderra-Wests game for us, cricket fans – how was this possible?”

The decision was shocking and interesting at the same time. It sparked different reactions and opinions from fans across the globe.

Which Team Made the Best And Worst PSL Player Retention?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) yesterday unveiled the player retention list for PSL 9 after all six franchises finalized their trades and player retentions.

The teams will not participate in PSL Draft to complete their squads, which is scheduled to take place on 13 December at National Cricket Academy, Lahore.

Some teams made the best of player retention and trade window, while some teams have to rebuild their teams from scratch during PSL Draft.

So let’s take a look at which teams made the worse and best player retentions for PSL 9.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultans look weak on paper considering their player retentions, however, they have first picks in multiple categories and have a major advantage in PSL Draft.

It has to be seen how they shape-up their lineup for upcoming season but they need to make some smart picks to cover all bases.

They have two solid batters in Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed, supported by explosive Khushdil Shah but they need some quality batters to make a good side.

As far as bowling is concerned, they have young bowlers Abbas Afridi and Faisal Akram, who are great talents and can be handy in the upcoming season.

Ihsanullah and Usama Mir will be leading their pace and spin departments respectively.

Peshawar Zalmi

Zalmis have ensured to keep some exciting batting talents in their player retention list but they are weak on the bowling front.

Their top-order is bolstered with Babar Azam’s arrival in last season, supported by three most exciting young batters in Pakistan Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris and Haseebullah Khan.

Interestingly, two of them are wicket-keepers, which is a bonus as they do not need to go after any international keeper in PSL Draft.

Karachi Kings

Karachi Kings’ will look like a different team than the one we are accustomed to as they let go of their skipper Imad Wasim (traded to Islamad United) and Mohammad Amir (released), who have been their major performers since the first edition.

Hasan Ali and Shan Masood have joined the Kings line-up, bringing wealth of experience with them, supported by experienced all-rounder Shoaib Malik.

James Vince and Tabraiz Shamsi are good retentions for Karachi Kings as they both are proven performers for Kings as well as at international stage.

Lahore Qalandars

Defending champions Lahore Qalandars made sure that their core players remain with the team, except for the mind-boggling decision to release Fakhar Zaman.

Fakhar Zaman is one of the major cog for Lahore Qalandars since inaugural season, giving them quick starts from top.

Other than this one decision, they seemed to have all bases covered with a world class pace attack led by skipper Shaheen Afridi.

The GTA 6 trailer has been causing quite a lot of hype on the social media in the past day or so. Not only has it managed to gather millions of views within 24 hours, but it has been replayed thousands of times. Thinking about the release of GTA 6 makes us think about the time GTA 5 was first announced. When it was finally released in 2013, it caused quite a lot of waves in the gaming community. Even now, 10 years later, the community is quite vibrant and flourished. However, there are going to be quite a lot of differences between the new GTA and the last one.

1. A Bigger GTA Map

This is one thing that we can expect from Rockstar to deliver well. The map sizes in all the Rockstar games are quite huge. Red Dead Redemption 2 has one of the biggest maps of all time, and GTA 5 had quite a large one too. However, a main difference between the fifth and the sixth installment will be the scale of the map. The map is expected to be four to five times as large!

Even today, the random NPC events throughout the city are quite fun in GTA 5. They are interesting to watch and highly random, but they still miss an element that was present in Red Dead Redemption 2. Akram stressed the importance of Test cricket in a cricketer’s career, advising Rauf to confront the challenges of the longest format if he aims to establish himself among the modern greats.

Asserting Rauf’s status as a contracted player, Akram acknowledged the controversies surrounding the speedster’s choice but didn’t hold back in emphasizing the significance of Test cricket.

“That’s his decision. He’s a contracted player, so there’s a lot of controversies back home,” Akram said. “There are some white-ball specialist cricketers in this day and age … if he thinks he’s not there as yet, then that’s his call,” he added.

Despite Rauf initially consenting to join the Test squad, he later altered his decision, opting out of the Australia Test series.

Riaz explained, “Haris Rauf was initially picked for the tour but withdrew, citing workload concerns. Although he had agreed to play Tests for Pakistan, he changed his mind and opted out of the Australia Test series.”

While the dialogue ‘do takkey ki aurat’ made quite a screen time, other renditions of such dialogues have been heard quite a lot in Pakistani dramas. In these dramas, sometimes these dialogues are demeaning, and at other times, they are just boring because there is no innovation or creativity in them. Just like the storyline, the dialogues have become so repetitive that they are not interesting anymore.

We have compiled some of these dialogues that have not only attracted lots of eyeballs but also eardrums, and we are just done with them.

1. Aap Mera yaqeen kren

Please, trust me. This dialogue is just becoming my pet peeve now. In almost every drama, you will find the heroine on her knees, begging her husband to trust him when he would have decided that she is characterless because he saw her talking to someone else.

Obsessed with marriage teenage girls proposing to middle-aged men; and if not that, then widows or divorcees proposing or being proposed. In these dramas, the one vibe you get is that wedding is the ultimate purpose of human life. No, sir, there is so much more!

3. Tumharey daman per daagh hai

Tainted character. This is one dialogue I am just tired of hearing. I mean, even if there is a cultural context for the phrase, ‘daman par daagh,’ there should be some criteria to that. If a woman has been previously engaged, the Pakistani dramas would call her characterless. Not only that, if a woman were married in the most legitimate way ever, even she would be called daaghdar after being widowed or divorced. I mean, why do we not have new storylines and good dialogues?

4. ____ ko talaq dedo

As if having control over someone else’s married life is the only high women aim for! Time and again, we will find a dialogue where a woman asks her son or brother to divorce his wife.

5. Wo larki Hamara Ghar tor rahi hai

In every drama, when a girl asks for a separate home which is her right (just by the way), she gets labeled negatively. I mean, what? We have economic issues, the pandemic has left us disabled, and all we care about is labeling a girl asking for her right as a homewrecker. Can we please get out of this mindset?

6. Mummy ye aap kia keh rahi hain

Okay, we may have heard this particular dialogue numerous times in just one scene of the only drama, and we all know which one that is. But other than Humsafar, we have heard dialogues similar to this one that hinted towards the same context. I mean, if it’s a new drama, then it came after Humsafar. So, it should know better than to overly trust the mother-in-law.

So it’s a genuine request for our drama writers to at least change the dialogues a little, even if they are not plan ning to experiment much with the storyline.

There are quite a lot of games in the Yakuza series and we urge you to try out as many as possible. They are some of Capcom’s best works, after Resident Evil, and are sure to keep you hooked for hours on end. Additionally, the combat system of the series is one of the best that has ever been seen in a game.

Google large language model is going by the name of Gemini and is said to be integrated into various Google products, including the search engine, ad products, and Chrome browser globally. This brings about quite a revolution for the company as ChatGPT now has a direct competitor in the market that can give it a run for its money.

Google has planned to release Gemini in three different versions,

  • Gemini Pro (for AI services and Bard)

Other than that, Google claims that Gemini outperforms GPT-4 in 30 out of 32 benchmarks! Karandaaz hosts First Roundtable on Open Banking with Eco-system Experts

Karandaaz Pakistan holds the first round table session on Open Banking to delibrate with industry stakeholders and financial eco-system experts.

KARACHI, December 7, 2023: Karandaaz Pakistan, a development finance firm at the forefront of promoting financial inclusion and driving digital transformation in Pakistan, held the first roundtable session to deliberate on Open Banking with industry stakeholders including senior representatives from regulators, banks, fintech and technology platforms among others. Karandaaz Pakistan recently issued a white paper that explores the advantages of Open Banking and deliberates on its prospects in Pakistan.

The roundtable session held in Karachi on Thursday is the first of a series of activities initiated to gather industry insights and recommendations from stakeholders. Senior leadership from the State Bank of Pakistan, Bank Alfalah Limited, Meezan Bank, Daraz, Haball, Keenu, Tapsys, SadaPay, 1LINK, National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT), Blinq, Digital Miles, Tasdeeq Pakistan, Allied Bank Limited and Mashreq Bank participated in the Karandaaz roundtable session.

Sharjeel Murtaza, the Director for Digital Financial Services at Karandaaz opened the roundtable session and shared that it was heartening to see the industry and regulator come together to seize the opportunity of Open Banking. He further stated that for Open Banking to be successful in its truest sense, an absolute consumer centric approach has to be taken and consumer data should be made portable without compromising its security and privacy.

Furthermore, Murtaza stated that given the success of Raast, Karandaaz is committed to support the enablement of an Open Banking ecosystem now as it can directly help lowering the barriers to accessing financial services and innovation.

Sohail Javaad, the Executive Director for Digital Financial Services Group at the State Bank of Pakistan, in his key note highlighted the importance of data in today’s age. He stated that Open Banking holds the potential to improve the customer journey and optimise banking services as per customer needs. It is pivotal for the advancement of banking in Pakistan, benefitting both banked and unbanked populations.

The SBP Digital Financial Services director further stressed that a consent management architecture (CMA) will be a key component to ensure customer data protection, adding that, since the data is owned by the customer, it necessitates that cost savings and/or revenue generated from Open Banking will benefit the customer. He further shared that reciprocity between the different actors within the ecosystem would be a key requirement.

Karandaaz representatives briefed the industry experts about the salient features of the Open Banking concept. The participants shared their feedback about what would be the best-suited model of open banking in Pakistan. They further shared recommendations on multiple matters including data-sharing protocols, understanding of pricing model, account-linking mechanisms and customer protection.

This roundtable session of stakeholders on Open Banking will be followed by further engagements and activities aimed at initiating conversation around Open Banking and move towards its implementation in Pakistan.
