ARY Network’s 6 Channels Banned in UK!

After failing to validate its accusations against the Editor-in-Chief Jang and Geo group, Mir Shakilur Rehman; 6 channels of ARY Network have been banned in the United Kingdom.

What is more, the British court has ordered ARY to pay Rahman a fine of PKR 260 million. In total, a heavy fine of PKR 400 million has been levied on the network. The sum contains legal expenses as well.

Previously, ARY had blamed Geo Network for being a traitor to the nation and accepting money from foreign governments.

Apparently, ARY had no evidence against Geo Group other than a small file of proofs derived from various social media websites. GEO had a 30 kg file of documents to refute all the claims.

Thus, ARY was banned by the British Court of Law. Consequently, Geo earned a victory in all 24 cases against its rival.

Hence, Britain’s media regulator, Ofcom has withdrawn 6 licenses of ARY Network after it allegedly declared bankruptcy on losing the case.

Other speculations are suggesting the possibility that Pak Suzuki’s new project, after the break of 2 years is the Suzuki Celerio, which is also a strong contender to replace the popular Suzuki Cultus model in the near future. Celerio was first introduced at Auto Expo 2014 held in India and appeared in Europe in Geneva Motor Show also in 2014.

Buying Used Mobiles Requires Verification by CPLC in Karachi

According to Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), over 34,000 handsets were stolen or were snatched in Karachi alone. To tackle this situation, and to prevent crimes in the future, CPLC has collaborated with Sindh police and the mobile market association to tackle the matter with a proper strategy.

The formula for this strategy is simple, shopkeepers who will sell used (second-hand) cell phones will first need to fill a forum issued by CPLC. The form requires the buyer to give complete details, including their CNIC number, mobile’s IMEI number, complete address, father’s name, buyer’s full name, cell number, etc.

The form also reads, “Before buying a used mobile phone from a customer, you [shopkeeper] must verify it from the CPLC helpline 1102 or call 35682222 to verify the phone’s status – snatched, stolen or cleared. It is also compulsory for all shopkeepers to get a photocopy of a customer’s CNIC before buying a used mobile phone.”

CPLC Cheif, Zubair Habib said, “It is a part of the apex committee meeting’s decisions to control street crimes, particularly the snatching and theft of mobile phones. By doing this, we would be able to control the sale and purchase of snatched or stolen mobile phones. We will have to control such mobile phones’ sale and purchase from Karachi to any other part of the country because such phones are usually sold and purchased from Karachi.”

“We are with the CPLC and police in their efforts to control such criminal activities as no one in Karachi is safe from such crimes,” said the president of Karachi Electronics Dealers Associations, Muhammad Rizwan. “It is also our responsibility to force the shopkeepers to follow the SOP.” He added.

According to CPLC data, 21,198 mobile phones were snatched while 20,442 were stolen in 2015. In 2016, a total of 34,137 mobile phones were either snatched or stolen across the city.

Nokia P1 Smartphone: All You Need to Know Rumour Roundup

Punjab Cities Get Free Public Wi-Fi Hotspots, Is Sindh Next?

Punjab becomes the first province in the country to get free public WiFi hotspots in three cities. The Punjab Information Technology Board installed 192 hotspots in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan.

Murree Mall Road is now receiving internet coverage through additional five hotspots. The Wi-Fi areas have already been installed and are currently being tested for internet usage and to ensure a smooth functioning for its formal launch. The hotspots will provide 160,000 users internet services for 4 hours a day.

The PITB is also working towards reducing the surfing of immoral photos and videos by introducing strict measures.

Sajjad Ghani, PITB Director of Information Technology Infrastructure mentioned that the Public Wi-Fi project would officially launch within a fortnight. It is costing the provincial government RS.165 million a year.

Lahore has the highest number of hotspots, 115, Multan has 47 and 30 in Rawalpindi. Model Town Park and Jillani Park, Jinnah hospital and Alhamra Arts Council are some of the hotspots.

PTCL Partners with PITB

Ghani said that the speed would be 1 MB and the connection for all the three cities would be provided by PTCL as it won the tender. The free wifi service has been installed to help people stay connected with the rest of the world and receive real-time information.

Is Sindh Next?

After Punjab, is Sindh going to receive the facility of free public WiFi hotspots? Let’s hope Karachites get to enjoy the free internet services soon!

Mussarat Misbah Takes A Stand Against Toxic Pakistani Fairness Brands!

Pakistan is a land with a strong fixation for fairness creams. To no one’s surprise, every year billions of rupees are pumped into the industry of skin creams that promise a fairer complexion within just a week of application! A spree of advertisements for such products is aired on television screen every day, brainwashing young girls that fairness is equal to all sorts of success in life!

However, callous promotions by such fairness brands remain tight-lipped about a dark secret- the fact that their creams are spiked with hazardous ingredients that are alarmingly dangerous for skin health! A common chemical found in most fairness creams is the toxic metal, mercury, and hydroquinone. Most countries have declared the presence of such products as illegal as they have ghastly effects on mental health, nervous system, lungs, and kidneys.

Recently, a news report by the BBC exposed various fairness creams for containing dangerous and prohibited levels of hydroquinone, mercury or corticosteroids.

The list of beauty brands also included Faiza Beauty Cream and Golden Pearl Cosmetics. Stillman’s cream vastly available in the country is also part of the harmful skin whitening creams. The report states that Faiza Beauty Cream has 0.54% of toxic mercury.

All of these beauty products have been fined a hefty amount of £168,579 by the LondonTrading Standards Association.

Pakistani Beauty Brands Exposed by BBC: Complete List of Toxic Fairness Creams

Meanwhile, Faiza Beauty cream claimed to be certified by Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR). However, a notice published in Jang on 21st January 2017 declared the PCSIR logo on Faiza Beauty Cream illegal and their verification claim as unlawful.

With such outrageous reports coming forward, the veteran Pakistani Makeup Artist, Mussarat Misbah has kick-started an awareness movement against toxic skin products in the nation.

“Over the last few years, doctors across Pakistan have witnessed an increasing number of skin diseases resulting from prolonged use of unstandardized skin whitening creams, which has been verified by research done by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute in Islamabad. In 2016, the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority has taken proactive and decisive action to define a standard for skin creams”

With her ground-breaking initiative under The Depilex Smileagain Foundation, Misbah has called for mandatory standardization of skin creams in Pakistan and is even urging the government to take a strong action against such lethal creams.

“We request the Government of Pakistan to ensure mandatory regulation of the skin cream industry according to this standard.”

In 2016, the Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) finalized ‘PS-3228/2016 – Skin Creams’. This standard currently allows skin cream manufacturers to voluntarily adopt manufacturing practices that are in line with global standards.

It is now important that these standards become mandatory to ensure that the consumer of Pakistan and our country’s industrial reputation is protected from malicious interests.
