Twitter Rallies Against Terrorist Attack On Muslim Family In Canada

The morning of 8th June comes as a sad day for most of us. Not only did the world lose Farhad Humayun to cancer but also witnessed an act of terrorism. A Muslim family was attacked in a Canadian city, London, by a Canadian man. The nine-year-old boy was the sole survivor of the 5 member family.

The witness statements are categorizing the heart-wrenching event as an act of terrorism. According to the witnesses and the police, twenty years old, Nathanial Veltman got into his vehicle when he saw the family walking about. Deciding that they did not deserve to live, he charged his vehicle towards them. The family included a married couple (46 and 44 years old), the husband’s mother (77 years old), and two children (15 and 9 years old respectively).

Twitter erupted against this terrorist and Islamophobic act as the hashtags of Islamophobia, MuslimLivesMatter, Canada, and LondonOntario began trending.

PM Pakistan & Twitter condemn the act

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the act on the family on Twitter as well. He said that this condemnable act of terrorism reveals the growing Islamophobia in Western countries. Islamophobia needs to be countered holistically by the international community.

The masses in Pakistan also registered support for the Muslim community settled abroad. It was clear that they were frustrated because often we have seen that the western countries term such attacks as individualistic while reserving the term terrorist for Muslims.

However, Canada is one of those rare countries like New Zealand that does not shy away from terming white terrorists as terrorists. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared his thoughts in the following tweets.

It starts with the acceptance of the blame. If you diagnose it right, it is only then that you start seeking the cure. It is so sad that one does not even want to think of what the nine-year-old boy will go through once he recovers from his injuries and finds that he lost his entire family. There are many devices that reside in the handheld world. When a person is bored or wants convenience, they look for handheld gaming consoles. Not everyone wants to play games on mobile, rather on a small console. The Gameboy used to be one of the most popular ones, alongside the Nintendo DS. Today, we are going to do a comparison between Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite.

Both of these handhelds deserve recognition as well as praise. They have survived through so much and are still going well. People want to buy these handheld consoles by the dozen and they love the games that are offered. Today, if one wants handheld next-generation gaming, they look at these two devices. Both have their upsides and downsides. However, we shall see which one is better out of these two. The Nintendo Switch is quite popular and is seen among many avid gamers daily.

If we look at the standard Nintendo Switch, we can see quite a lot of things. Firstly, it has two options. It can either be used with the TV for a bigger and immersive output. However, you can always remove the tv and attach the Joy-con controllers with it. This then gives you the feeling of playing on a handheld. Its screen size measures approximately 6.5 inches, which is quite ample when it comes to handheld.

The computing power on this handheld console is quite strong. Nintendo has managed to port games like Doom Eternal and Saints Row 4 for the Nintendo Switch. It is definitely worth a buy if you are into plugging into the tv and standalone both. Its price is currently at Rs.65,000/- on the market. However, one can always get a bargain.

Its battery life allows the gamer to dish out anywhere from 2 to 6 hours of playtime. It all depends on which game is being played.

Nintendo Switch Lite:

Now, this device can be considered as a smaller version of the Nintendo Switch. However, there are some noticeable differences. Firstly, the screen size on the Nintendo Switch lite is slightly smaller. It measures about 5.5 inches, which is still a good size for a handheld. Additionally, you cannot connect the Switch lite to the Tv and the controllers are built-in with the screen. They cannot be separated like the Switch but there is no need to do that with this one.

The battery life on the Switch lite is slightly more than the switch, running from 3 to 7 hours. Computing power on both the devices is the same, you can play nearly all the switch games on switch lite. However, the exception is those games that require a television. Talking about portability, the smaller size makes the Switch lite an easier fit on the pocket. Its current price is set at Rs.46,000/- In nearly a quarter of the price reduction, you can buy this console with certain limitations.

The Verdict:

We would say that the Switch Lite can win in most of the areas here. However, if you also wish to play on the big screen and the small one, then the standard switch should be your go-to. In the end, it all boils down to the preference of the user.

The writer of this article would prefer to buy the Nintendo Switch Lite. It is cheaper and one can play basically all the games as the standard switch. It should also be noted that both of them are touchscreen.

The drive-through vaccination centre has been set up by the district administration Lahore. This seems to be quite a developmental act on their part. In this day and age of social distancing, it is important to make sure we keep away. Better than stepping out of the car, one now just has to drive through the tent. They have also made it quite convenient to get a vaccine jab now.

Assistant Commissioner, Arbab Ibrahim, has been appointed as the focal person for this vaccination centre. It is vital that this project be put in charge with someone who can handle responsibility. According to the statistics, 9.2 million doses of the vaccine have been administered so far. This is good news because it shows that we are progressing. Albeit it is a slow pace but even that is considered progress. However, we still encourage you to practice all the measures as best you can. We can only prevent the spread if we remain careful. Wash your hands, avoid contact with people. Above all, always make sure you step out of the house wearing a mask.

1. Lipsticks

Once your lipsticks are finished instead of chucking them in the bin, keep them. Clean the inside with earbuds and soapy water. Once dried, you can keep the empty shells to hold things.

2. Makeup Palettes

KATI, SSHATI, BQATI, FBATI disown KCCI’s Message Against KE

Karachi 7th June, 2021: President Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Saleem uz Zaman, President Site Super Highway Association of Trade & industry (SSHATI) Engr. Nisar Ahmed, Founder President Bin Qasim Association of Trade & Industry (BQATI) Mian Mohammed Ahmed, President Federal B. Area Association of Trade & Industry (FBATI) Mohammad Ali jointly stated that a video has been released by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) on their social media page mentioning that all seven industrial associations have demanded to end KE’s monopoly. It was clarified by all Presidents that a meeting was held at KCCI to discuss the concern related to KE’s prevailing issues with trade and industry and its potential takeover by Shanghai Electric.

However, he clarified that KATI, SSHATI, BQATI, FBATI and all other participants of the meeting did not conclude and reached any decision and it was decided that a committee comprising of technical experts from each association and KCCI will study the authenticity of concerns raised regarding discrimination against Karachi’s consumers and will come up with recommendations in the best interest of the industrial and domestic consumers of Karachi after due deliberations.

The participants resolved that KE has significantly improved from the dark era of KESC, and without discussion, any haphazard decisions in the matter might push back KE to KESC which will have disastrous implications for the residents and industries of Karachi.

The industrial representatives generally agreed that K-Electric’s response time on complaints and accessibility had significantly improved and appreciated the company for its commitment to the industries of Karachi and the economy of Pakistan.

Prime Minister and his team were appreciated for the decision of providing upto 2000 MW supply from NTDC for the residents and industries of Karachi which will enable zero load shedding for the Industries.

In response to questions about the alleged unfair practice of charging Karachi’s customers higher electricity prices, it was verified from industries of other DISCOs in Pakistan and reached a conclusion that there is a uniform tariff policy of the Govt of Pakistan across the country which exists only to prevent any discrimination between customers residing and doing business in any part of Pakistan.

The condition of other state-owned DISCOs was also discussed whereby it was discussed that as per financial statements of companies like FESCO and MEPCO they were receiving subsidy which exceeded PKR 100 billion and 200 billion respectively for past five years. What was more surprising was that despite receiving these subsidy amounts, both companies posted cumulative losses for the same period, which were contributing to circular debt which itself is the biggest challenge being faced by the Govt of Pakistan. KE’s affairs are also looked over by NEPRA and the Ministry of Energy and KE was posting a profit year on year, except 2020 due to COVID, while other DISCOs (except for GEPCO) were posting cumulative losses.

Industry representatives also discussed unbundling of KE, which was being assumed as a solution to the troubles of Karachi. However, a clear example of unbundling is present in the case of WAPDA into separate generation, transmission, and distribution companies which are currently affected by circular debt of 2.6 trillion rupees and creating a huge loss for the national economy. Furthermore, it was also discovered that these government DISCOs themselves have obtained a stay order against NEPRA’s decision to allow Power Wheeling.  It was also discussed that unbundling of KE was due in 2023 as per agreement with Federal Govt and it is the duty of Federal Govt to protect the interest of Karachi’s consumers above all.

It was verified from technical consultants that there would still be no impact on any consumer’s bills even if the utility will be unbundled, because the Uniform Tariff Policy remains in place across Pakistan to prevent discrimination among the citizens of the country but with a big risk of contributing in circular debt if policy is manipulated.

It was also stated that currently we have one company to blame in case of load shedding / faults once divided into pieces there will be blame games and instead of one service provider every one will blame it to the back end thus making supply of industries unstable.

It was said that subsidy is a domain of Federal Govt and it is the responsibility of Federal Govt not to allow any discrimination with the consumers of Karachi which is the Largest Economic and Industrial Hub of Pakistan.

Federal Govt must take all seven Industrial Associations into confidence before taking any decision on KE. These seven industrial areas are not only the actual stake holders but also the backbone of the economy of Pakistan and their representatives must be present and consulted before making any decision regarding KE.

It was also observed that because of the policies of the current govt., the economic growth expectations and targets have been surplus and crossed 3.92 Percent which has raised the eyebrows of the entire world. It was upto the Federal Govt to decide that disturbing the sale of KE to Shanghai Electric will ruin the image of the country and that will give a negative message to the international investors who are observing the remarkable policies of the current Govt and will drastically effect foreign direct investment.

Meanwhile, Bushra Ansari is a veteran actor who has been in the entertainment industry for quite some time. Both are important celebrities. And the ugly verbal fight that ensued was not a pretty sight.

However, Bushra Ansari showing that she is indeed the bigger person has come to apologize for making remarks against Jannat Mirza. She said that she was not aware of who the person was and neither did she know Jannat had already apologized. After that, however, she does mention that if your elders school you, instead of reacting harshly, you should respect them.

 

[June 7th, 2021]: After Jannat Mirza, her fiance Umer Butt has also jumped into the Busra Ansari-Jannat Mirza controversy. He chose to share his two cents on the matter.

Taking it to his stories which many Insta blogs covered, he decided to share his argument from the bed without showing the courtesy of getting up from his pillow. As he rubbed his eyes to get the sleep out, he said that Bushra Ansari should not have used bad language for Jannat Mirza. He then moves on to make the same argument Jannat did. Umer says that Bushra Ansari should not be making claims when it comes to Islam because she is not qualified for it.

But let’s approach it one step at a time. 

  1. In this day and age, it is not possible to not know the Christianity symbol. So Jannat was wrong in this part. Considering we come from a country where when you make blasphemy allegations with respect to Islam, no one gives you your rightful trial, Jannat should be held accountable for blasphemy against Christianity.
  2. Bushra Ansari started using bad language and cursing Jannat Mirza. Let’s assume Jannat really did not know the importance of the symbol. As a senior entertainer, Bushra Ansari should have definitely schooled Jannat but in a better language. There was no need to curse.
  3. Jannat responded and made fun of Bushra Ansari. She said that her Islamic claims hold no value because she is involved in activities like dancing. Her words made it seem like dancing was un-Islamic.
  4. And then Umer Butt came into the matter as well. With no regard to the gravity of how much Jannat had messed up, he said that Jannat had already apologized so Bushra Ansari should too. The way you called her ‘jaahil’, sir, in that case, you should also apologize because no matter what, no matter how much you want to school an elder, they are at the end of the day, older than you. Our culture demands respect for the elder.

People must have taken to his social media saying the same about respect for the senior. This is why, once again, he took to his social media giving his stance. He said that senior or not, he would call the people out exactly the same way if they curse him or the people around him. He also said that because she was a woman, he was this respectful, had it been a man, he would have held no barriers.

[June 6th, 2021]: The first TikToker to cross 15 million followers on the app, Jannat Mirza, has been slammed with a Blasphemy case by the Christian community. Bushra Ansari also called out Jannat Mirza and Mirza returned the favor.

What Happened?

Jannat Mirza’s lack of awareness of religious symbols may just cost her her entire career. She was sent a chain belt that had the Christian cross dangling from it like a charm. Jannat Mirza wore that belt and also posted videos on it.

This invited the ire of her Christian followers and the entire Christian community. They feel that their Holy Cross has been desecrated and it is unacceptable. Jannat Mirza immediately started receiving backlash after which she deleted all videos and apologised. All the apology videos are on her Instagram stories.

Bushra Ansari Steps In

A veteran of the Pakistani entertainment industry, Bushra Ansari did not stay behind. She commented under a post of Jannat Mirza’s call out with her own harsh message. Here’s what she said:

Mirza also responded back rudely. Behind all the heart emojis is the constant taunt of age (is Jannat Mirza being ageist?) and of Bushra Ansari’s own career.

Perhaps Jannat Mirza took all her anger out on Bushra Ansari since she could not on the Christian community which she has already hurt.

Blasphemy Proceedings

The issue has not yet settled as Christian activists in Lahore have filed a complaint with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). They are accusing Pakistan’s most popular TikToker of insulting the Christian cross. Leading this movement is Catholic philanthropist Raja Walter and three other activists. All of them are pursuing a blasphemy case against her.

Stated in the complaint is: “Mirza has intentionally desecrated the cross, the holy sign of Christians. She has hurt the religious feelings of millions of Pakistani Christians. She should be punished and arrested”.

Getting Justice

Walter also added that deleting the videos does not make a difference. Jannat Mirza has a habit of doing this as last year she wore pants which had the face of Jesus and Mary on it. The FIA took no action because the video was shot in Switzerland. 

Moreover, they assert that if a Christian had done this with any Muslim symbol, they would already have been burnt. Why should Christians not get justice when their religious sentiments are hurt?

The temperature will rise 2 to 4°C  above the normal range of these regions.

Karachi and other coastal regions will stay in the normal range of temperature.

A Spell Of Heavy Rain To Begin In The Coming Weeks

Another spell of rain to begin this week all across Pakistan. The storm is said to bring down the mercury level, the Meteorological Department said.

The Met Office has issued a weather update predicting a spell of rain to be entering the country from June 17.

Moreover, the Met Office predicted rain and windy-thunderstorms (with few hailstorm and heavy falls) in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Northeast Balochistan, and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, dust-thunderstorms with rain are also expected in some districts of Sindh.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is pouring down in most parts of the country and likely to continue in some parts till Tuesday.

During the last 24 hours, rains with windy-thunderstorms have been observed in various parts of Punjab, upper KP, upper Sindh, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, north & central Balochistan, and Islamabad.

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD/MET) has predicted rainfall, dust storms across Pakistan from May 27 till Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

Previously, Pakistan found itself facing several heatwave spells influenced by other countries.

According to the official PR released by MET, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Azad Kashmir can expect rain, whereas showers are expected in some places of Sindh and East Balochistan.

It reads:

With intermittent rainfall, thunderstorm and blowing winds, other parts of the country to witness the downpours include Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi , Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Mianwali, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Khushab and Mandi Bahauddin,

In addition, parts of Punjab including Lahore, Gujarat, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Okara, DG Khan, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur will also witness rainfall with dusty winds in the coming days,

On the other hand, the National Disaster Management (NDMA) has directed all provincial departments, including National Highway Authority (NHA), Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), and other agencies, to remain alert in case of emergencies.

May 4, 2020: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for the city of Karachi.

The temperature is expected to rise, and the heatwave will carry on for four days. PMD reports suggest the temperature is expected to rise to 42 degrees Celsius!

“The PMD predicts heatwave in Karachi and its suburbs from May 5 to 8, 2020, and the maximum temperature can rise to 40-42C. Wind flow will generally be from Northwest/West turning to Southwest in the evening during these days,” said Sardar Sarfraz, the chief meteorological officer of the department.

Since the holy month of Ramadan is also widely observed in the country, individuals who are fasting have been asked to avoid going into the sunlight and instead are being encouraged to stay at home, especially the elderly.

6 Simple Steps to Avoid Heatstroke in Heatwave

“Due to the COVID-19 situation and the expected heatwave, people are advised not to venture out next week as the high temperature and an increase in daytime humidity could result in heatstroke to people,” said Dr. Khurram Ahmed, a physician at a local healthcare facility.

Reportedly, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority wrote letters to the Karachi commissioner as well as the municipal commissioner of the KMC. These letters request the authorities to take steps to prevent any loss of life.

16 Pakistani Universities Make It To Asia University Rankings 2021

Choosing the best universities is a tough task. But it gets easier if renowned authorities put them into the rankings list. Times Higher Education (THE) is considered to be one of the most authentic lists that everyone believes in. If your university makes it to the list shared by them, you are for sure in a good one. And Pakistan’s sixteen universities make it to the Asia University Ranking 2021.

Quaid-i-Azam University is at the hundredth rank. It has one percent international students and the female to male ratio leans more in the favor of former.

Impact Rankings 2021: 36 Pakistani Universities Make It To The List

Times Higher Education (THE) releases an Impact Rankings list every year since 2019 that assesses universities according to UN’s SDG – 17 goals for a sustainable future. The list for 2021 has been released and 36 of the Pakistani universities have been named. It is certainly a reason of pride for the country.

Universities from all over the world were assessed but 95 nations got the opportunity of witnessing their universities on it. The list comprises of 1,115 universities.

NUST – leading amongst Pakistani universities

Amongst Pakistani universities, NUST (National University of Sciences and Technology) is on the top. They have secured this place for fulfilling various goals from the UN SDG foundation. Those goals are:

  • SDG 7 ‘Affordable & Clean Energy,’
  • 9th SDG: ‘Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure,’
  • SDG 12 ‘Responsible Consumption and Production,’
  • and SDG 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals.’

After NUST, you will find the University of Agriculture Faisalabad and COMSATS University Islamabad.

THE Impact Ranking 2021

The University of Manchester is leading the list of 1195 countries – this is the first time a UK university has led the Impact Ranking list. Moreover, 4 out of 10 universities amongst the top ten are from Australia. 75 of the 1195 universities are from Russia which is the most any one country has contributed. The second most institutions named are from Japan, which is 73.
