Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif announced a package on Wednesday to help overseas Pakistanis with various initiatives. He expressed confidence that the next government would continue these efforts.
The prime minister mentioned that Pakistanis living abroad have gained recognition for their hard work, contributions, and innovations. He emphasized the importance of supporting them quickly, stating that these initiatives would motivate overseas Pakistanis.
Today I announced an incentive package for overseas Pakistanis that reflects our government's commitment to providing them with improved services and support. This package aims at enhancing their engagement with Pakistan and to ease their interactions with various institutions.…
“They are like great ambassadors for Pakistan. If we provide them with skill development training and certifications from global companies, our Pakistani workforce can enhance the valuable remittances sent to the country,” he said.
Gulf And Europe
In the Gulf and Europe, the prime minister noted a high demand for skilled labor. He suggested adopting successful training models used by other countries to equip Pakistani workers for modern requirements worldwide.

The prime minister’s package for overseas Pakistanis includes setting up special courts to address property issues faced by expatriates. A court in Islamabad will serve as a model for other provinces. Hotlines will be established in offices under chief secretaries and the ICT chief commissioner. Overseas Commissions will be established in all provinces. There will be a 10 percent quota for overseas Pakistanis in public sector housing projects, with a 5 percent rebate for foreign exchange payments. Dedicated counters will be available at all airports. Top contributors to remittances will be recognized.
A 5 percent quota will be reserved for overseas Pakistanis in professional public sector educational institutes. Scholarships will be provided for higher education. National saving schemes will be introduced at attractive rates. NADRA’s central system will be linked at the union level for various facilities. The number of camp offices for document attestation, online biometric verification, and removal of blacklisted passports will be increased.
The prime minister also commended the efforts of the Ministry for Overseas Pakistanis, the officials, and their team in facilitating expatriate Pakistanis.
Other Developments
Earlier, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Sajid Tori highlighted the achievements of the ministry. Online facilities have been established for overseas Pakistanis, including addressing property issues, school enrollment, housing society matters, passports, and more. Agreements have been signed with 15 countries, with 12 more in progress for sending manpower abroad. The ministry has sent over 1,227,000 Pakistani nationals to various countries, increasing the number of overseas Pakistanis to over 10 million.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) now welcomes Air Vice Marshal (retired) Muhammad Amir Hayat as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a role he assumes for a year, following his previous role as Acting CEO. The CEO position at PIA had been vacant since Air Marshal Arshad Malik concluded his three-year term on April 25. Arshad Malik had taken the helm in October 2018.

Almost a decade ago, a young soldier visited his hometown in Swat. After nightfall, he started making his way to home when he felt someone was following him. When he turned, he saw a woman. A chill went right down his spine and he asked her why she was out all alone. She said she was here to take him. Sensing things out of place, he started running and entered a graveyard.

The soldier hid behind a gravestone and starting reciting every surah he knew. Few minutes later, he heard someone saying salam. At this, a warmth surged through his body. He turned around to find a man who assured that he would be fine now and that he will accompany the soldier to the mosque for Fajar, which he did.
After fajr, the soldier lost the man. When he asked the muezzin about him, the muezzin told him that no one had accompanied the soldier. Upon investigating, the soldier found that all the man had told about himself corroborated with someone who lost his life in the 1965 war, the man whose gravestone he was hiding behind.
Another person shares about their stay at a cottage in Naran. They share that they were all residing in the rooms on the first floor. One man in the group liked sleeping alone, plus he was not feeling well so he decided to sleep in while the others went out to sit in the cool weather. The man, sleeping alone, shares that he had asked the family to switch off the light and close the door. Only a few minutes in, after he heard the entire group leave the cottage, he heard ghungroo; as if someone was walking in the room. He was extremely scared but he chose to stay in, hoping to cheat the entity into thinking he was asleep.
Another group camping in northern areas shares how they could hear celebrations as if their was a wedding in the next clearing. They checked multiple times but the voices would disappear when they would get there.
Yet another group of hikers and campers shared that three of the hike mates got lost. They couldn’t trace them in the mountains. Meanwhile, the three friends share that one of them got hungry. They were out of food so they asked for it from the first town they came across. After that, they found their way back to the group without much problem. But now, the one who ate started complaining of pain. Weeks later, after medical help was of no us, an aalim told the person’s family that he had eaten jinn food.

A recent study that took place in Lahore showed that many people who perform marriage ceremonies called “nikkah registrars” think that brides don’t have the skills to discuss the terms of their marriage contract. This study also found that a lot of these registrars believe that giving women the right to ask for a divorce could lead to more divorces. They also think that a wife only has the right to financial support if she obeys her husband. Can you believe this sort of stuff still exists in 2023?

This information was shared during the launch of a report called “Diagnostic Study of Nikkahnamas in Punjab: A Review of Women’s Marriage Rights.” This report was put together by the Centre for Human Rights, Musawi, and the National Commission for Human Rights.
The study looked at how women’s rights in marriages are treated and protected. They looked at 1,100 marriage contracts (nikkah namas) and talked to 105 nikah registrars in two districts, Lahore and Pakpattan, in Punjab. They also studied the laws related to marriage.

The study found several problems. One issue is that many existing laws meant to protect women’s rights are not being followed properly. For example, some registrars were not filling out important information in the marriage contracts, like the bride’s ID details or her age. The study suggests that there needs to be a better understanding and enforcement of the laws that protect women’s rights in marriages. By not properly following these laws, many women are not getting the rights they deserve. As a little child, you are always told there is nothing scary about a graveyard. Your elders give explanations to justify. And logically, all these explanations seem sound enough. But your heart tells you otherwise. Your heart tells you there might be more to the story. It appears your heart just might be right.
When our readers gave us quite a response over Karsaz churail, we decided to delve into the world of spook further. As we discussed the what-ifs of what the world might entail, a team member at Brandsynario, Hassaan, mentioned how that world brushed past him once. He says it was since then that he stopped going to the graveyards.

Never play truth and dare in a graveyard
He recalls that it was the night of the cricket world cup, and Pakistan had just won. So, to celebrate, he went out with a group of his friends. When friends get together, they like to dare each other. That night, as they rode their motorbikes on Shahrahe Faisal, they decided to stop at Colony Gate Qabrustan (graveyard). Hassaan and his friend dared two others to go through the graveyard. Those two went on their way.
More than an hour passed, but they hadn’t returned. Now, Hassaan and his friend started getting worried. They tried calling them on cellphones, but there was no response. They were supposed to meet at half an hour marker, and that was long past too. So these two decided to go in and find their friends themselves.
Bad move, he says.

Stay very quiet in the graveyard!
As they walked in the eerie silence and occasional crunch of the leaves, they kept calling out their friends’ names. The then-19-year-olds had clearly forgotten they shouldn’t be noisy amidst the graves.
So as young Hassaan moved forward, he felt as if his friend had tugged him from behind. He turned on his spot only to find his friend almost ten graves away. Unsure of what had just happened, he stumbled. He stumbled and fell into an open grave. Six feet under, as the darkness closed all around him; a hand grabbed on his ankle. He could feel the bony hand engulfing his ankle as the grip got tighter.

Scarier, he says, in the entire event was that he couldn’t see what or who had grabbed him. The last thing he remembers before losing consciousness is the helplessness he felt as he couldn’t even call out for help.
His family tells him that he was recovered from the old, ’empty’ grave after a while, but he remained unconscious for 72 hours. The doctors couldn’t make any diagnosis.
From that day onwards, Hassaan refuses to set foot in any graveyard, the bony hand imprinted on his mind.
