The Sindh government has decided to move the cattle market that was previously set up on the Super Highway to Taiser Town this year. The decision was taken in a bid to avoid traffic congestion and unhygienic conditions in the area.

The cattle market will be set up on 100 acres of land in Taiser Town and will be open to the public from June 7 to 12. The market will have a capacity of over 100,000 animals and will be equipped with all the necessary facilities, including water, electricity, and sanitation.

The full list of authorised cattle market locations in Karachi is as follows:

  • Taiser Town, Northern Bypass
  • Malir 15, Asoo Goth
  • Cattle Mandi Landhi
  • Rice Godown, Landhi near Baber Market
  • Hamdard University near Manghopir
  • Moach Goth, Baldia Town
  • Cattle Mandi permitted by station commander in the limits of Clifton Cantonment Board
  • Cattle Mandi permitted by the president Karachi Cantonment Board in the limits of Karachi Cantonment Board.

Imposing Section 144? 

The government has also decided to impose Section 144 in the area around the cattle market to prevent traffic congestion and unhygienic conditions. Section 144 prohibits the assembly of more than four people in an area and the sale of meat in the open.

The decision to move the cattle market to Taiser Town has been welcomed by the public. Many people had complained about the traffic congestion and unhygienic conditions in the area where the market was previously set up.

In related news, WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has also introduced an edit message feature. Users can now edit messages they have already sent by long-pressing the desired message and selecting the “Edit” option from the menu. However, text editing is only available within the first 15 minutes after sending the message. When a sent message is edited, it will be labeled as “Edited” when viewed by others, ensuring transparency and avoiding any secretive actions. However, the edit history itself will not be visible.

Endometriosis 

Endometriosis is a condition where cells similar to the lining of the uterus grow outside of it. It mainly affects the pelvic area and can cover the ovaries and fallopian tubes. It can also affect nearby organs like the bowel and bladder. It occurs in almost one in 10 women in the UK according to Dr Amer Raza.

In more than half of the cases, endometriosis progresses and leads to significant and debilitating issues, including problems with the bowel and ureter not to mention the constant pelvic and period pain.

About half of the cases involve the ovaries, potentially resulting in damage to the ovaries and affecting fertility. Many women worldwide suffer from this condition at different ages. But now with robotic surgeries and doctors like Dr Amer Raza, there might be more hope.

Dr. Raza, a skilled surgeon from Nishtar Medical College in Multan, has led a team of surgeons at London’s Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, he used advanced robotic technology to perform a record-breaking number of complex operations. In just one day, he successfully completed 12 major surgeries, setting a new world record.

Dr. Raza and his team implemented a well-planned care model for their surgeries. By using robotic surgery, they were able to complete operations more quickly, saving around 30-50 minutes per surgery. This allowed them to perform more surgeries in a shorter time. The new technique also resulted in less blood loss and faster recovery for patients. Dr. Raza credited the efficient teamwork of 20 staff members for their success in achieving this milestone.

Can Robotic Surgeries Be Brought to Pakistan? 

Dr. Raza expressed his gratitude to Pakistan and shared his plans to collaborate with doctors and hospitals in the country to introduce robotic technology for the benefit of women.

He acknowledged the significant contributions made by thousands of Pakistani doctors in the National Health Service (NHS) in Britain. Dr. Raza was pleased that the British press recognized his achievements, considering it a testament to the excellence of Pakistan.

Hasnain Lehri Denies Allegations – Here’s What Happened

Last night Trade Development Authority Pakistan’s (TDAP) fashion show which was held as a part of this year’s Textile EXPO (TEXPO2023) ended. However, the final day of the fashion show turned into a chaotic event when an alleged fight between the ace models of the Pakistani industry broke out. At the center of the controversy, a video was released by a Pakistani tabloid that captured Lehri shouting at a group of supermodels.

In the same clip models including Nimra Jacob were seen crying and shouting. Amidst the video, Nimra is seen explaining how Lehri has thrown his hands on her and was about to hit her.

“He threw his hands on me and tried to punch me in the face. I’m so shaken right now.” Said Nimra in the video clip.

What Went Down?

Nimra Jacob, later, took to her Instagram stories to share what happened at the event and moved on to condemn the situation asking the authorities to take immediate measures to protect the safety of women while holding the perpetrators accountable.

“We, in the fashion industry, have seen too much abuse, disrespect, and complete, utter negligence for our safety to tolerate it anymore. I have no space in my heart for forgiveness when it comes to abuse, harassment, bullying, assault, etc.”

She wrote further, “Without any plausible cause, threats were made at me. I was verbally abused and physically assaulted. My property was taken and used to blackmail me. My female colleagues were harmed in the process of trying to protect me. This all happened at work, where I made sure to bring it to the attention of the management that I was being threatened by the perpetrator before he even became violent. The management should have taken action the first time I mentioned concern for my safety.”

Lehri Strikes Back

While giving his statement to The Express Tribune Lehri denied any claims of assault made against him. Lehri claimed that Jacob was the one who started the scene and misbehaved with him in the first place. According to Lehri Jacob purposefully bumped into him during the ramp walk for the sportswear brand, Spartans and asked him to learn the ramp walk.

“During the crossing at the ramp, Jacob hit my shoulder. We went backstage and she walked towards me, asking me to learn how to walk on the ramp. This resulted in an argument and she brought my deceased father into the conversation.”

“I come from a very respectful family, we aren’t the kind of people who would get into an issue as petty as this.”

According to Lehri Jacob was the one who started recording the argument. While Nimra accused Lehri of taking over his belongings Lehri shared his stance as to why he held her phone back.

“Filming isn’t acceptable and I took her phone. That is all I did. I took the phone from her hand and kept it with me because she was recording me without my consent. She just wanted to show her side of the story,” he said. “I wish I had taken out my phone and started recording how she was misbehaving as well.”

“With God as my witness, I can swear on the Holy Book that all I did was take her phone. I didn’t assault anyone, I didn’t physically abuse her. Her three friends teamed up against me. They will support her,” he added

Organiser’s Stance On The Incidence 

The event organizer and CEO of Take II PR. Khaled shared how nothing went down that had been claimed by both parties.

“Nobody raised hands on anybody. It was an old feud between these two models that’s been going on for years – a grudge they had to settle. It was a childish catfight, with ‘Oh, he elbowed me,’ and ‘Oh, this person abused my father or mother.’ But what is happening these days is that people start making videos and putting them on social media to achieve something out of it.”

“After investigating the whole thing last night – I can confirm nobody touched anybody. I would have never allowed that. I would have called the police there and then. Nobody punched anybody. We told the girls last night, too – get a medical done. But nobody went because there was nothing there.”

Upon asking about the police involvement, Khaled said, “Not at all. It was badly reported by social media. No police were involved. People said Lehri was taken in by the police, but he was sitting with me. We sat him down and asked him to apologize and he did.”

AI Identifies Drug To Combat Deadly Superbug

Artificial intelligence (AI) has been used by researchers to find a novel antibiotic. The antibiotic has the potential to eradicate a dangerous species of superbug. Thousands of possible substances were reduced using AI to a small number that could be evaluated in a lab. Abaucin is a strong experimental antibiotic.

It has been developed as a result of AI and needs to undergo more testing before it can be utilized. Researchers in Canada and the US believe AI has the potential to significantly speed up the discovery of new medications.

The bacteria can spread genetic information that enables other bacteria to develop antibiotic resistance, according to the WHO, and have the innate ability to find new ways to evade treatment.

Hospitals, nursing homes, patients who need blood catheters and ventilators, as well as those with open wounds from procedures, are at risk from baumannii.

“Using AI, we can rapidly explore vast regions of chemical space. Meanwhile, significantly increasing the chances of discovering fundamentally new antibacterial molecules,” says Dr. Jonathan Stokes, the lead author of the study and a researcher at McMaster University, in a media release.

“We had a whole bunch of data that was just telling us about which chemicals were able to kill a bunch of bacteria and which ones weren’t. My job was to train this model. What this model was going to be doing is telling us essentially if new molecules will have antibacterial properties or not,” said Gary Liu, a graduate student from MacMaster University who worked on the research.

A. baumannii has been added to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) list of “priority pathogens”. They urgently need new therapies because of the high risk bacteria.

“AI approaches to drug discovery are here to stay and will continue to be refined,” says co-author professor James Collins, of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). “We know algorithmic models work. Now it is a matter of widely adopting these methods to discover new antibiotics more efficiently and less expensively.”

TikTok is currently in the initial testing phase of Tako. According to a statement from them, Tako is being tested in the Philippines and utilizes a third-party chat assistant. The primary objective of Tako is to facilitate the discovery of entertaining and inspiring content on TikTok for content creators. Despite being in the early testing stage, TikTok has prominently featured Tako within the app. The chatbot appears in the main right-hand menu alongside bookmarks and likes

This approach is the same as Snap and how it has positioned its chatbot, “My AI”, in its app by placing it at the top of user chats. However, unlike My AI, TikTok is positioning Tako as a means to explore new content and gain further insight into the topics being discussed in video clips. In a screenshot of the chat interface, the bot encourages users to ask any questions and assures them that it will make its best effort to assist in finding what they are seeking.

Apart from Tako, TikTok is also experimenting with generative AI, including the testing of AI-generated avatars. However, TikTok has not disclosed any information about a wider implementation of this technology. The company’s commitment to this technology remains uncertain at present. In its statement, TikTok mentioned that it currently has no plans beyond the early testing phase of Tako.

Why would you use View Outside feature?

View Outside the Frame is also useful for street photography, allowing you to keep a tab on what’s going on around you in the environment, and who might walk into your frame next. That’s it! Once you’ve enabled this setting, you’ll see a faint gray border around the edges of your camera preview. This indicates the area that’s being captured outside of the frame.

To use this feature, simply compose your shot as you normally would, but keep an eye on the gray border. If you see something you want to include in your photo, simply move the camera until it’s within the gray border.

Once you’ve taken your photo, you can open it in the Photos app and pinch out to zoom out. This will reveal any content that was captured outside of the frame.

Sana Nauman Chaudhry Leads Environmental Sustainability With Breath IO

A group of forward-thinking people has taken on the challenge of developing environmentally friendly initiatives in light of Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change and the wake-up call provided by recent floods. Sana Nauman Chaudhry is leading the charge because she has accepted the duty of improving the environment for the benefit of coming generations.

Sana Nauman Chaudhry, who started her profession as an architect, closely observed the over time taking place environmental damage. Her decision to act and solve the worsening environmental crisis was motivated by this realization. She started her first project, Resource Zero Waste, aimed at supporting climatic stability, three years ago. This project served as a stepping stone for Sana, inspiring her to take the risk of developing Breath IO, an original and ground-breaking invention.

“In 2020, I and my fellow architects started the journey to raise awareness about environmental issues faced by our cities with Lahore’s Initiative of Neutralizing Carbon at the annual Architect’s Expo IAPEX2020. I then founded REsource Zero Waste to develop self-sustaining models to tackle excessive waste issues in our cities”, said Sana.

Sana Nauman Chaudhry remained constant in her dedication to finding a workable system for economical air quality monitoring in order to battle air pollution throughout this time. She co-founded Breathe IO because she wanted to create change. This bold initiative sought to address the urgent problem of air pollution and improve the health of the environment.

In 2022, the Standard Chartered Women In Tech (SCWIT) Cohort 4 provided Sana with vital assistance and advice, which helped Breath IO to new levels of popularity and success. Sana received a startup grant of up to PKR 1.5 million after being chosen as one of the seven women-led start-ups.

SCWomenInTech, a global initiative, aims to promote gender equality in technology-based entrepreneurship. The scheme is managed in Pakistan by Standard Chartered Bank (SCBPL) and INNOVentures Global (Private) Limited. Since its launch in 2019, four “Cohorts”—or editions—have been successfully run around the country.

Reflecting on her experience and the outcomes of SCWIT 2022, she expressed, “SCWIT is a purposefully designed program for women founders, offering essential tools and financial support to initiate and expand their businesses. The hands-on and targeted approach empowered me to identify and address areas of improvement through structured activities. The grant played a vital role in developing effective marketing strategies and growth channels to scale our sales. Additionally, the one-to-one mentorship provided invaluable guidance in resolving key challenges.” 

Benefiting from the support and direction of SCWomenInTech, Sana and her team were able to develop affordable yet high-quality products. Their flagship creation, the Smart Air Purifier, was not only significantly cost-effective but also equally efficient in addressing air pollution concerns. “Our first product was a Smart Air Purifier that is 5X times less costly and equally efficient. It allows users to monitor, control and forecast Air Pollution. We are now developing low-cost air monitoring sensors across the city to measure air pollution in Lahore and other major cities,” she explained.

Sana was able to use SCWomenInTech’s tools, mentorship, and financial opportunities through her involvement in the initiative, enabling Breath IO to continue growing and having an effect in the effort to create a more sustainable and clean future for Pakistan.
Breath IO developed and improved solutions that are usable by a variety of consumers, helping the company reach notable milestones in just two years. These technological advancements not only increase public awareness of pollutants but also pinpoint their sources using a cutting-edge air quality monitoring metric. Researchers from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) have conducted an inquiry into the differences between two surgical techniques, leading to potential advancements in surgical incisions.

The study involved monitoring the healing of simulated wounds in biosynthetic materials over a span of 64 hours. Surprisingly, it was discovered that wavy gaps healed almost five times faster than their straight-edged counterparts. This discrepancy in healing rates was attributed to variations in the movement pathways of the cells involved.

According to K Jimmy Hsia, a mechanical engineer at NTU Singapore, it has long been recognized that the manner in which skin is incised can impact the speed of its healing.
