To develop the design for the Pixel Fold hinge, Google’s team explored various sources of inspiration. They examined boxes of hinges in the lab and studied the mechanics of paper and books. The goal was to recreate the seamless blending and one-handed operation of closing a book. One book that particularly caught their attention was a passport. Sangsoo Park, an industrial designer at Google, explained, “It feels like a little bit of a metaphor, too — your passport holds your memories and it’s where so many of your stories begin. And it’s thin and pocket-able enough to carry everywhere we go.”

The team also focused on perfecting the torque required to open and close the Pixel Fold, aiming to achieve an effortless feel. This resulted in a satisfying vacuum effect when opening and a pleasant sound when closing the device. Park added, “You get this satisfying clap when it shuts, and we really liked it.”

Durability test

Durability was a crucial consideration for Google during the development of the Pixel Fold hinge. To ensure it could withstand years of usage, Google created prototypes that were manually opened and closed countless times. Eventually, a machine was built to automate this process. The company carefully balanced magnets and received valuable feedback from both machine testing and user trials. The goal was to address concerns about the hinge’s long-term reliability.

During the gathering, Imran Aslam, the association’s founder, shed light on the distressing fact that even the renowned Edhi Air Ambulance service has been rendered immobile due to the unavailability of fuel and that seriously affects the people of the country because an ambulance is a basic necessity they might be cut off from soon.

Aslam further highlighted a major hurdle in the form of the State Bank’s non-issuance of a Letter of Credit (LC), preventing oil companies from importing fuel. This exacerbates the crisis by limiting the supply of vital resources.

With the cost of pilot training skyrocketing from Rs4,500,000 to over 10 million in the past year, flying schools now face the looming threat of closure. Your Choice Of Soap Can Attract Mosquitoes, Study

It only makes sense to want to do everything you can to avoid a mosquito bite if you are one of those persons who seem to attract mosquitoes. While many things can affect how appealing you are to mosquitoes (such as what you wear and whether you walk outside during mosquito peak hours), recent research raises the possibility that the kind of soap you use may also have an impact.

Four participants were enlisted for the study, which was published in the journal iScience. Each individual was invited to lather up with four different soap brands—Dial, Dove, Native, and Simple Truth—after having their distinctive scents determined.

How Mosquitoes Are Attracted To Scents?

Results suggested that mosquitoes may be drawn to floral scents because they associate them with flowers, which give forth the nectar that they need to survive. Since mosquitoes require sugar as a source of energy, flowers are attractive to them. Because we apply perfume with floral undertones to our bodies, mosquitoes may first be drawn to that.

“Soaps drastically change the way we smell, not only by adding chemicals but also by causing variations in the emission of compounds that we are already naturally producing,” co-author of the study Chloé Lahondère, an assistant professor of biochemistry at Virginia Tech, said in a press release.

“That was very interesting for us because there is other evidence in the literature that elevating certain fatty acids, such as those found in coconut oil derivatives, could serve as a repellant for mosquitoes and other insects,” Vinauger said.

By conducting tests on cloth that had absorbed the subjects’ odors, the trials also took into account the effects of exhaled carbon dioxide (CO2), a vital cue for mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can recognize the CO2 that people and other animals breathe. Female mosquitoes become more active in the presence of CO2, which encourages them to investigate their surroundings for a host.

Experts Warns Against Dunking Biscuits In Tea

Tens of thousands of people all around the world love a cup of tea with a side of biscuit. However, a study has found that if you want to keep your coworkers on your side, you should never dunk in the workplace.

According to one survey of 2,000 employees, a fifth of British office workers considers dunking biscuits as a significant faux pas.

“We should never dunk anything into our cups of tea. If you dunk a biscuit in your tea, it will change the flavor of the tea, you will get some biscuit at the bottom of it, and it will be all soggy.” Says etiquette expert and former Royal butler Grant Harrold.

“You don’t want to be doing it. The idea of a cup of tea is that you sip and enjoy it.” He added. According to him, if you can’t resist dunking your biscuit into your brew, then just one biscuit “is sufficient”. “Two is ample, but three is overindulgent”.

The Ideal Biscuit For Dunking?

Often we love to dip our chocolate-filled cookies in the tea but that is something one must refrain from, says Grant.

“Digestive biscuits are a top favorite as well as any chocolate biscuit. But chocolate can be messy, and you don’t want to look like you’ve just been to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.”

“I would suggest a plain biscuit, like a digestive would be fine. And if you want to push the boat out a bit more, and be a bit more classy with your biscuit choice, you could opt for Duchy Originals.”

“There is no correct etiquette for drinking a biscuit into your tea! This is an arrestable offense. Of course, if you are at home, with your curtains firmly drawn, and you wish to dunk when no one is watching, that is perhaps permissible. But in polite society, we don’t dunk.” Says William Hanson – another etiquette expert.

Dunking biscuits can also be messy not to mention the crumbs can attract flies which is another reason one must avoid dunking biscuits in the tea.

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has announced an amazing scholarship opportunity for students aspiring to pursue their academic goals in Germany. In collaboration with the German support organization, Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), scholarships are now available for Development-Related Postgraduate Courses (EPOS).

She explained that she was in India for a fashion shoot when the movie and fashion show offers started pouring in, but she had reservations about committing to long-term projects in India as she anticipated challenges in frequently traveling there after marriage. Consequently, she politely turned down the offers, expressing her uncertainty regarding future availability.
