Ali Zafar’s Comeback For Season 9

Ali Zafar performed the songs for the first three seasons of the HBL PSL, but in 2018, he faced allegations of harassment from Meesha Shafi, which significantly affected his career. Despite winning the court battle against Shafi’s unsubstantiated claims, he was not allowed to sing the anthem for the PSL again due to the lingering stain of the accusations.

Although the PCB initially recorded three anthems for the 9th season of PSL in Ali Zafar’s voice and selected one, objections were raised by a female official within the PSL franchise. She argued against Ali Zafar’s reintroduction into the league due to the negative impact it could have in light of past events.

Fans Troll Shaheen Afridi over bowling slower than Mohammad Amir

shaheen-afridi-trolled-over-slow-bowling-mohammad-amir

Pakistan’s T20I captain Shaheen Afridi finds himself under scrutiny as fans notice a decline in his bowling speed since the ICC World Cup 2023.

The ongoing ILT20 league has brought this concern to light, revealing that Afridi’s pace is even slower than that of his teammate Mohammad Amir.

Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Amir are playing together for the Desert Vipers in ILT20, fulfilling a long-awaited dream for fans who have yearned to see them bowling together since 2020. While fans enjoy the two bowlers wreaking havoc on opponents together, they cannot stop comparing the two bowlers.

In a recent match against MI Emirates, Amir guided the Vipers to victory with the figures of 3-16, but Afridi went wicketless for 39 runs.

During the match, broadcasters shared the average bowling speeds of Vipers’ bowlers, showing Afridi as the slowest of them all. Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana topped the charts with a blistering 143.4, followed by Amir at 134.4, England’s Luke Wood at 132.5, and Afridi at 131.8.

Fans react over the reduced pace of Shaheen Afridi

This did not go unnoticed by cricket fans, who were already noticing the dip in Afridi’s pace, dropping from 150s to 130s.

Shaheen Afridi was under fire for his low pace during the Test series against Australia too. Former captain Waqar Younis suggested that Afridi should take time off to avoid transitioning into a medium-pacer.

However, during a press conference, Afridi himself refuted the claims of being slower and blamed speed guns in Australia for showing a slower pace.

“To be honest, when we were bowling, we were watching the board [big screen] ourselves and thinking, ‘Are we really this [slow]?'” Afridi said.

“We were putting in so much effort, yet the speeds were coming up to 132-133 [kph]. We were surprised and were thinking ‘Has it been decided [by the broadcasters] that the speed gun won’t go above this?'”

Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir also voiced the same opinion as Waqar Younis, suggesting Afridi to take some rest, which will help him regain his pace back.

Google Supports the Upcoming General Election 2024 in Pakistan

Karachi, February 1, 2024:  Supporting elections is a critical part of Google’s responsibility to our users and the democratic process. As Pakistanis take to the polls to vote in the National election to elect representatives for the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies on February 8th, we’re committed to working with government, industry, and civil society to connect voters with helpful and authoritative information, and keep our platforms safe from abuse.

Connecting voters with helpful information

We know that in the run-up to elections, people need useful and relevant information to help them navigate the electoral process. We make reliable information easily available with helpful product features, showing data from trusted, nonpartisan organisations on how and where to vote across our products:

  • Google Search: Our ranking systems are designed to elevate authoritative information and provide context to users on a variety of elections related information. In addition, the Google homepage will have links that direct voters to authoritative information on ‘how to vote’ and ‘how to register to vote’
  • YouTube: For news and information related to the election, our recommendation system prominently surfaces content and relevant context from authoritative sources, including local and national news sources on the homepage, in search results and the “Up Next” panel, to connect people to high-quality election news and information.
  • Google Trends: to help the media and public explore what voters care about this election, we’ve launched a Google Trends page, a tool that helps surface the top queries, topics, and interests in parties running in the elections. The page also includes data on the top election-related topics searched in each part of the country, such as the economy, taxes and wages, among others. This does not reflect voting intentions but it does provide unique insights into what people are searching for.
  • Google News Initiative: We ran a series of workshops to equip journalists with the right resources to inform their news coverage during elections, including teaching them about tools for news verification, digital security, and using Google Trends.

Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan said “In the lead-up to the election, we have focused our efforts on supporting Pakistanis who are expected to cast their vote by helping them connect to useful and relevant election-related information online. We have also invested in the news ecosystem and trained journalists and newsrooms on reporting authoritative and credible news ahead of the election cycle. Recently, we launched a Google Trends Pakistan General Election page to make it easier for the media to find this data for their stories.”

Safeguarding our platforms from abuse

Protecting the integrity of elections also means keeping our products and services safe from abuse. Across Google and YouTube, we have long standing policies to keep our platforms safe, and that apply to everyone and for all types of content, including elections. Our YouTube Community Guidelines include policies against hate speech, harassment, incitement to violence, technically manipulated content, and certain types of election misinformation. We rely on a combination of machine learning and human reviewers to identify and remove content that violates our policies – between July and September 2023, we removed over 8.1 million videos and over 10 million channels globally for violating our Community Guidelines on YouTube.

Qureshi added, “Election integrity is a top priority for YouTube, and we’ve been working to ensure the right policies and systems are in place to support the country’s elections. On top of connecting people to authoritative and quality information, we remove violative content in a timely manner with the help of machine learning and trained reviewers. Our goal is to maintain the right balance between protecting our community from harm and enabling a diversity of viewpoints to thrive on YouTube.”

At Google, our mission is to make the world’s information accessible and useful, and we are committed to surfacing and connecting voters to authoritative and helpful information online.

Is A 660cc Car Recommended For A Long Road Trip In Pakistan?

which car for road trip in Pakistan

Going on a road trip in Pakistan, especially to the northern areas, can be quite a task to accomplish. It is not a trip that everyone can make and definitely not a trick that any car can make. Yes, when you go out on a road trip, it is always recommended that you take a car which can handle the terrain, weather and the load of people and luggage. In such a case, we would not recommend you to drive a 660cc car on a long road trip, or to the northern areas.

There are quite a few reasons as to why a 660cc car should not be taking terrain-heavy road trips. The purpose of the 660cc vehicle was fuel efficiency and it does that quite well, in the city or on the motorway. However, the fuel efficiency is present because of the appropriate engine size. However, that also means that the threshold for the engine can also be reached quicker over prolonged use.

Driving a 660cc in Pakistan

For Karachi’s stop-and-go traffic, a 660cc car is the perfect applicant. It consumes quite less fuel on idle and running both. However, due to the engine size, if the car is fully loaded with people and luggage, then the 660cc has to work quite hard to reach the same energy it was producing with lesser people. Thus, it is not recommended to take a 660cc car on a long road trip, especially to the northern areas.

You can take the car if you wish to, but it is going to be quite a lot of load on the engine for quite a long time. People have taken a Mehran on Pakistan tours but even that is not recommended. Most 660cc cars are made for city-driving and that is where they perform the best. For long road trips and Pakistan tours, the best engine capacity to have is at least 1.0 Liter or greater. A 1.0 Liter vehicle can handle load with better efficiency and still give good mileage over longer distances or hilly areas.

take at least a 1000cc car on a road trip

A Car Can Go Anywhere

Of course, if you want to take a smaller car loaded with people and luggage, you can. However, it will not only give you lack of power on many fronts, but the wear and tear on the engine with be a nuisance for the next person who decides to buy your car.

A lot of 660cc engine cars end up with seized or repaired engines in them due to overworking the engine itself. Thus, then the value goes down and the next buyer hesitates.

Pakistan’s Top 5 Risks In 2024

Source: People Dispatch

In the wake of the economic challenges that have gripped Pakistan, the World Economic Forum’s Executive Opinion Survey for 2024 has highlighted the top five risks that the nation is grappling with. These risks paint a daunting picture for Pakistan’s immediate future, encompassing a range of economic, environmental, and societal concerns.

Economic Downturn

The first and perhaps most pressing risk is the economic downturn. The WEF report indicates a significant threat of a debt crisis, sustained inflation, and even the potential collapse of the state. Pakistan is currently navigating a precarious situation, with the cost-of-living crisis looming large. The affordability and availability of necessities have become critical factors contributing to social and political instability.

Energy Supply Shortage

Linked closely to the economic challenges is the second risk – an energy supply shortage. The report warns that a combination of extreme weather events and constrained supply could exacerbate the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, potentially leading to a catastrophic scenario of hunger and distress for millions. The energy crisis, if not addressed adequately, could escalate into a humanitarian crisis, particularly affecting the poorest emerging markets.

Inflation Woes

Inflation emerges as the third risk on the list, intertwining with the economic challenges faced by Pakistan. The report underscores the potential for sustained or rapid inflation, which further compounds the difficulties for the population, making basic necessities harder to afford.

Extreme Weather Events

Extreme weather events take the fourth spot, posing a significant threat to Pakistan. The WEF report suggests that the impacts of climate change could turn the cost-of-living crisis into a broader humanitarian issue. The simultaneous occurrence of food and debt crises in countries like Tunisia, Ghana, Lebanon, and Egypt adds another layer of complexity to the challenges faced by Pakistan.

Misinformation and Disinformation

The fifth risk identified is the proliferation of misinformation and disinformation. In an era dominated by digital communication, false narratives can quickly spread, influencing public opinion and exacerbating existing challenges. Addressing this risk requires a concerted effort to promote accurate information and media literacy.

Amid these challenges, the WEF notes that the short-term risk of the cost-of-living crisis is the most immediate concern, while the failure of climate mitigation and climate adaptation poses the largest long-term threat. Water shortage, particularly affecting women and girls responsible for water collection, is also highlighted, with implications for health and education outcomes.

As Pakistan grapples with these risks, international assistance and partnerships, as seen with commitments from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, will play a crucial role in mitigating the challenges and fostering sustainable solutions. The ongoing efforts to secure economic packages and investments underscore the global interconnectedness in addressing the multifaceted risks facing the nation.

education is now responsibility of father

Education is one of the most important aspects of a person’s life. It is essential for a person to understand how the world works, and gain the necessary knowledge to function and move forward. It may not be something that everyone has but it is something that everyone is encouraged to get, no matter what stage of life. Not only does it help you think about the world more deeply, it helps you grasp a situation from more than one perspective.

It is also something that we believe is needed more and more in our country than ever. In regards to this, the Supreme Court has made a new ruling. The Supreme Court has ruled that fathers are accountable for their children’s maintenance as per Shariah and civil law. Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi emphasized the importance of quality education for children in a recent eight-page judgment.

Getting The Necessary Education

It may not be something that some people give importance to, but having an education provided for a child is something they will never regret. The supreme court ruling came after a case involving a woman, seeking maintenance for her six-month-old daughter after divorce, came forward. Initially, the family court ordered a maintenance amount of Rs.1,000/- per month, later increased to Rs.25,000/- in 2021.

The father contested the decision citing financial constraints due to his Rs.60,000 pension and family obligations. The Supreme Court affirmed that maintenance encompasses all essentials for living, including children’s education expenses, obliging the father to support his daughter’s education until her graduation and employment.

Education for All

Of course, we know that there are a lot of hard-working mothers and fathers present that already do support their children, no matter what. You will see them moving heaven and earth to make sure their children never face any adversity in life that they did. The parents must always be appreciated for their effort, no matter if its the mother or the father. It is something for which no amount of gratitude is enough.

That said, now the Supreme Court has made it mandatory for fathers to provide for their children. This ought to give a push to those who hesitate or refuse to do so. It is important to provide an education for your children so they can find their way in this world better.

Rahat Fateh Faces FIA Inquiry Over Money Laundering Post Violence

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan has initiated an investigation into Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for alleged money laundering and tax evasion. This comes after reports surfaced indicating that the singer earned nearly eight billion Rupees for 12 years from concerts both locally and internationally.

The Pakistani tax authorities’ decision to probe Khan coincides with the musician facing scrutiny over a video showing him physically assaulting one of his band members in a dispute over a missing bottle of liquor. The video of the assault has garnered widespread shock and attention globally.

As per reports, FIA has requested FBR to provide the complete record of Rahat’s assets and income tax. This isn’t the first time the singer has faced issues with the FIA and the FBR, but the current allegations are notably serious. Sources from the FBR have stated that the singer’s tax payment record bears no resemblance whatsoever to his actual income.

The FIA’s actions were prompted by revelations from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s former global promoter, Salman Ahmed, who disclosed that the singer had earned approximately eight billion Rupees over 12 years under his management. This included over $22 million from international tours and over PKR 1.3 billion from concerts in Pakistan. Ahmed also stated his willingness to provide comprehensive evidence, including audit trails and financial data, to both the FIA and the FBR.

An FIR has been filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) concerning allegations of answer book substitution in the Central Superior Services (CSS) 2022 examination. The FIR targets an official from the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), along with two candidates and an additional individual. These people have been accused of handling the answer book replacement scheme for illegal gains totaling more than Rs. 1 million.

A High Profile Crime At CSS

The investigation stemmed from a complaint by Unsar Hayat Gonsdal, Director General (Administration) at FPSC, leading to Enquiry No. 322/2023. During the CSS 2022 examination’s interview phase, anomalies surfaced when certain candidates exhibited remarkable written performance but failed during the viva section. It can certainly bring about suspicion if a candidate has written something well but is lacking the knowledge to talk on those same subjects they have written on.

An internal fact-finding committee comprising of, Syed Ahmed Babur Zaidi, Zaheer Parvaiz Khan, Akbar Hussain Durrani, conducted an inquiry, implicating Nadeem Mohammad Khan, an Assistant at the FPSC’s Secrecy Branch, for substituting answer books. It seems that a thorough investigation did lead to a person responsible for replacing the answer books.

Every Action Has Consequences

The individual in question was determined to have replaced Ali Sher and Halar Ahmed’s genuine answer books with modified versions, in collaboration with Muhammad Ibrahim, in exchange for a financial reward totaling Rs. 1 million. It’s worth mentioning that the serial numbers on twenty-four answer books didn’t match those documented on the examination hall attendance sheets.

Additionally, twenty-two of these books were not officially designated by the examination cell for use in the CSS 2022 centers. As we can see, the act of cheating or manipulation can extend to examination systems as high as the CSS one.
