Pakistan’s cricketing arena witnessed an ugly on-field drama during the Sindh Premier League (SPL) as all-rounder Iftikhar Ahmed found himself embroiled in a heated altercation with former cricketer Asad Shafiq.

Shafiq, who is known for his composure also lost his cool and responded to Ahmed in the same way, resulting in some unpleasant moments on the field.

However, the all-rounder later realized his mistake and expressed regret over his conduct, acknowledging the need for restraint in the heat of competition. He took to his official X (formerly Twitter) and issued a public apology to the former Test batter.

“I am extremely apologetic for my behaviour in the field today. I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did in the heat of the moment. I’ve apologised to @asadshafiq1986
Bhai in person after the match & have always held great regards for him. We have played a lot of cricket together,” his post read.

For the unversed, the incident unfolded during the 12th fixture of the SPL when Karachi Ghazi’s Iftikhar Ahmed dismissed Larkana Challengers’ Asad Shafiq in the eighth over of the 161-run chase.

A video circulating on social media captured the tense moment as Iftikhar indulged in an animated celebration aimed at Asad, triggering an immediate response from the seasoned batter.

As tensions escalated, both players engaged in an ill-mannered verbal exchange, prompting intervention from umpires and teammates to diffuse the situation.

Despite the on-field confrontation, Iftikhar Ahmed did not lose concentration from the match as his stellar performance led Karachi Ghazis to emerge victorious.

The right-handed batter showcased his prowess with a gritty half-century, steering his team out of adversity, while also making significant contributions with the ball, claiming three crucial wickets.
