With over 1 billion users, WhatsApp is the most popular chat platform around the world. The instant messaging app, now owned by Facebook, introduced many new features in 2018.

These innovations were made to provide its users with the latest updates including group video, voice calling and Picture-in-Picture (PiP) to Stickers, forwarding restrictions and labeled forwarded messages.

This year seems no different as WhatsApp aims to introduce many new features in 2019 as well.

Here’s a list of some the biggest features that we may expect to be launched by WhatsApp in 2019.

1. WhatsApp Fingerprint Lock Feature

WhatsApp is working on to introduce a fingerprint-based authorization method for Android users. The new system will require the users to authenticate themselves each time they open the instant messaging app, by using third-party locking applications.

2. WhatsApp Audio Update

WhatsApp is reportedly working to improving the Audio Picker to allow you to share as many as 30 audio files at once. There will be an option to preview each audio file just like we can preview multiple pictures before sending it.

Although this redesigned audio file section is already a part of the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.19.1, it is currently disabled and is expected to be relaunched soon.

3. Dark Mode for WhatsApp

The much-talked dark mode feature of WhatsApp is also most likely to be launched this year. There is an increasing concern that black text on white background can harm the eyesight and the dark mode feature will be the ultimate solution for this issue.

WABetaInfo confirmed that this latest feature is currently under development and will be introduced very soon with imminent iOS 11 update.

4. WhatsApp 3D Status Update

Exclusive for iOS, this update will allow the users to take a sneak peek into the stories of your contact with iPhone’s 3D touch. It will not send a read receipt message to the person.

5. WhatsApp Sticker Integration

WhatsApp is working in the third-party keyboard integration to offer more choices of stickers for the WhatsApp users. The first keyboard app that uses the stickers integration feature is going to be GBoard.
