Women who play sports in Pakistan don’t really get the support they need and deserve, and that’s unfortunate.

The system is not built to support women, and a large part of the population believes women’s sports aren’t worth watching.

So it really is a breath of fresh air when we see an initiative supporting women in supports.

Imkaan Welfare is holding an all women gymnastics championship on November 16th, 2019.

Registered and established as an NGO in 2012, the Imkaan Welfare Organisation aims to address and pare down the rates of both infanticide and child abandonment across Pakistan.

International Shooting Championship for Women to be Held in Pakistan Soon

Imkaan was founded on the tenet that each and every child not only has the right to live but to thrive.

It is great to see initiatives like these to help women realize their potential and shine, and we hope to see more of these in the future.

Daraz, the leading online marketplace in South Asia, launched Daraz Dukaans across the country one year ago.

Small brick-and-mortar retail stores located in various areas in cities across the country came to bear the platform’s branding. So did Kiryana walas and panwalas. The white-and-orange Daraz logo became increasingly ubiquitous.

Today, there are 1672 Daraz Dukaans across the country. The initiative has helped bring small retailers into the fold of eCommerce and opened up new streams of revenue for them.

Good customer experience is a result of cumulative positive interactions between customers and a platform and Daraz Dukaans were launched to increase customers’ engagement with the Daraz.

The aim is to improve customer service with shop owners acting as Daraz representatives to assist customers with product returns and refunds.

The reverberations are much stronger: Daraz Dukaans have helped digitise local businesses and open up new income flows for owners.

Daraz agents are trained and given access to the online catalogue so that customers in search of a particular product and unable to access it in brick-and-mortar stores are able to place that order online.

Therefore, an online catalogue of 7 million products was made available to customers – even and especially those living in remote areas of the country where internet penetration is low and access to technology is limited.

Kiryana walas, panwalas and small businessmen across the country have seen their inventory increase many folds over and for every order placed through them, they received a commission. 

Today, 10 Daraz Dukaans in Karachi are offering an added service by functioning as Pickup Points.

In order to bring customers greater convenience, Daraz has provided them the option to have their orders dropped off at a Daraz Dukaan closest to them so that they can pick them up at a time most suitable.

The collection points service is available only on prepayments and Daraz is aiming to bring the order pick up service to many more Daraz Dukaans before the mega 11.11 sale event. 

Through such initiatives, the ecommerce leader has been able to bridge the gap between online and offline and strengthened its physical presence.

Daraz is on a mission to lead Pakistan into the digital age by 2022 by enabling anyone with a smartphone to do business. Daraz Dukaans tie in very strongly with that goal. 

MS Jaguar Starts Electric Motorcycle Production in Pakistan

MS Jaguar has become the first Pakistani automotive assembler to have made an electric motorcycle in the country.

The company has used it own design for this model. From the controller to the charger, and even the battery pack has all been assembled in the plant.

In Pakistan, there is a popular design of motorcycles which is used by big manufacturers like Honda.

Because there is an ecosystem for the design and the parts are more easily available, the look and feel of the electric motorcycles are almost the same shared Usman Sheikh from Auj Technologies.

If the average bike costs Rs. 4,000 for maintenance at about 40-50KMs, this bike will cost just Rs. 500 claimed Chaudhry Zahid Chairman MS Group.

One of the best features about the bike is that is does not make loud noises nor does it spread unfriendly carbon into the environment.

The future is electric and its important for everyone to play their part in helping to make Pakistan green again.

After Salt n Pepper Village and all the street-side vendors being removed from Sea View Karachi, it is being said that the Cantonment Board Clifton is now trying to remove the horse and camel waalas from there, too.

It is yet to be seen if this news is actually true or not, but the removal of horse and camel waalas will surely take a lot away from the whole beach experience.

Earlier this year an ‘anti-encroachment’ drive was carried out in Saddar Karachi, which resulted more than 200,000 vendors and employees losing their businesses or jobs.

The vendors belonged to the middle-middle, lower-middle and working classes of the city, and not only this move affect their livelihoods, but it also presented a huge threat to the cultural fabric of the city.

Forever 21 which was once successful and flourishing was, however, lacking a plan for sustainability and a series of missteps.

The company’s bankruptcy appears to be a result of accelerated expansion while consumer tastes in both what they wanted to wear and how they wanted to shop evolved significantly in recent years.

Hyundai Digital Showroom to Open in Karachi

Hyundai is ready to open the doors to its digital showroom in Karachi. This will be the second digital showroom by the automotive giant within the country.

The first was inaugurated earlier this year in Emporium Mall, Lahore. The showroom will open at Emerald Towers, Clifton.

Unlike other showrooms in Pakistan, this showroom will provide a unique experience for the customers via a 3D digital display.

Buyers will be able to get real-time information about the car, including the engine, features and its specifications.

They will also be able to view color options and even compare the features of Hyundai cars with one another.

The official Hyundai-Nishat accounts on social media have hinted something is on its way. Its either the official inauguration of the showroom or the launch of the new Tucson Crossover SUV.

PTI Working on Policy to Bring PayPal to Pakistan

Imran Khan’s government is still optimistic about bringing PayPal to Pakistan.

Reportedly, a parliamentary panel was informed that the government would introduce PayPal and other means of online payments for citizens.

The Ministry of Science and Technology secretary briefed the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology in regards to bringing these payment systems.

He shared:

The policy related to PayPal is at the advanced stage and important development is expected in the next two weeks.

Furthermore during the briefing, Senator Mushtaq Ahmad questioned why Pakistan had no access to PayPal yet. He added that without implementation of such payment systems the country could not boost its trade.

Earlier, PayPal announced it was not interested in coming to Pakistan because of some difficulties.

PayPal is NOT Coming to Pakistan!

Secretary IT Marrof Afzal added that there are internal issues which have stirred PayPal’s decision of refusing to come to the country. He had hared that money laundering related laws have now been tightened and there is tight scrutiny, Pakistan has done its part.

On the occasion, Senator Mohammad Ateeq Sheikh added that PayPal’s decision of not coming to Pakistan comes due to the lack of legal backing. He further enlightened the present individuals that PayPal is an internationally operating payment system however they fear the possibility of money laundering and thus refused the proposal.

He added that the government should provide a sovereign guarantee to the frim and ask them to enter the country on the basis of Public Private Partnership to tackle their worries about the system.

Another issue that the committee witnessed was that the freelance sector was not flourishing the way it should be and there is also a lack of online money transfer practice in the country.

We have now to see how PTI’s policy will be able to convince the tech-giant to enter Pakistan and bring relief to one of the biggest freelance markets in the world as well as trade.

Is Sindh Government Unable to Clean Karachi Alone?

On September 18th, 2019, CM Sindh started a campaign called Clean My Karachi. It was supposed to be a month long campaign aimed at getting rid of Karachi’s trash once and for all.

Shortly after, Sindh government also announced that anyone caught throwing garbage will be fined.

Moreover, a cash prize of PKR 100,000 was announced for anyone who made a video of a person littering the street and reported it to the government on a whatsapp number.

However, it now seems that CM Shah might have realized that taking care of Karachi’s trash is not possible alone.

Yesterday, officials of the Turkish company, OZPAK J V, met Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Minister for Local Bodies Nasir Hussain Shah at the CM House and discussed the trash situation of the city.

The CM said that the Turkish company would be given the task to lift garbage and clean the roads; six garbage transfer stations (GTSs) will have to be made for this purpose.

Recognizing an issue is the first step towards resolving it. Now that the CM has realized that we need external help to deal with this issue, we hope that Karachi can actually get cleaner.

Nestlé trains young chefs in dessert making

Some brands just know how to win their audience over and Nestlé has always done it right! Apart from being the most credible name in the food and beverage industry, the company is always taking good initiatives for the betterment of the community.

The company has a Global Nestlé Needs YOUth initiative which aims to help 10 million youth to access economic opportunities around the world, under this initiative, YOCUTA has been launched in Pakistan.

YOCUTA, Young Culinary Talents, is a program with the purpose of equipping young passionate chefs with the right tools to excel. Currently operational in 13 countries in total, this program has now come to Pakistan.

The talent in our country is often suppressed owning to unavailability of opportunities and a general lack of concern. Most people are forced to follow paths which deny them their passion.

For our country to produce excellent chefs, we first need to invest in their trainings and Nestlé has decided to do just that! The 1st workshop of YOCUTA has just come to an end and it was everything a young chef could ask for.

A dessert workshop, in collaboration with COTHM Lahore, provided a chance to learn new and exciting things to a batch of 40 students. This is how you invest in the future and Nestlé has set the bar pretty high.


Samer Chedid, Managing Director, Nestlé Pakistan, while sharing his views about the initiative said, “This program is in line with our global commitment to help 10 million young people access opportunities by 2030. Through YOCUTA initiative, we will be offering training, practical skills and knowledge in important areas like professionalism, basic culinary skills and a background knowledge of the social issues affecting the food service environment. I am delighted that as a first step we were able to train more than 40 talented students and we hope to reach out to many more aspiring chefs in Pakistan in the future.”

Abdullah Jawaid, Business Executive Officer (BEO), Nestlé Professional, said, “YOCUTA is more than just a one-time event. It is, in fact, a commitment to our communities to create more opportunities for young people, while supporting the future needs of the food service industry. Through this initiative, not only does Nestlé hope to improve the opportunities to excel for these students, the company also wants the foodservice industry to boom. The way we see it, and we can’t wait for more workshops like these to crop up.

Sindh Government Plans to Launch Transport Service Named After Edhi

Sindh government is planning to launch a transport service called “Edhi Line” in Karachi, revealed Saeed Ghani, Sindh Information Minister over the weekend during a Sindh Assembly Session.

The service is named after Abdul Sattar Edhi, a globally renowned Pakistani philanthropist  who passed away in 2016.

Sindh to Introduce Ajrak Number Plates with Tracking Chips

The Excise Department of Sindh will introduce chip-based number plates with Ajrak design for all vehicle owners in the province.

These technologically advanced number plates are expected to be launched for both motorcycles and cars by the end of 2020.

Secretary Excise Abdul Haleem Shaikh has ordered the manufacturing of these plates according to reports. In the first phase a batch of 300,000 will be produced.

When scanned, the chips will give all information about the vehicle owner and of the car itself.

The chip will also be a more technological way of tracking cars if reported stolen. However the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and the provincial cabinet are due to approve this ideaHoweve
