Anoushay Ashraf Reveals The Secret Of Her Flawless Skin

Anoushay shares her skincare routine

It may seem frivolous to talk about skincare right now, but practicing self-care is more important than ever: it’s familiar, it’s calming, and it’s a reminder not to give up on ourselves. As we began to work from home, we were curious about how spending so much time indoors could affect our lives, including our skin and skincare routines.

There are chances you are exposed to less harsh sun and use less makeup – or even no makeup at all, which is good for your skin. However, you might also expose yourself to more air conditioning, eat less healthy food, and consume more soft drinks to cope with the quarantine blues.

Since everyone is in a lockdown, all the Pakistani celebrities are sharing their hidden talent on social media frequently. However, this one celeb decided to talk about her skincare routine and blessed our feeds with her beautiful face. So, take notes, guys.

Pakistani VJ and actress Anoushy Ashraf recently took to social media to open up about her skincare routine.

The starlet shared on Instagram that she gets a lot of questions about her skincare regimen, and finally, she revealed her secrets.

Anoushey Ashraf stated that she sleeps plenty, uses sunblock, and she’s mostly staying these days indoors with no makeup, which has given her skin a chance to recuperate.

She went onto add, “Your compliments have encouraged me to share some #zeromakeup #zerofilter selfies. The lighting in these pictures help. May have gotten hydra facial maxxxxx 2-3 times in my life.”

Here’s Anoushay flaunting her flawless skin

View this post on Instagram

For all those ladies who’ve continuously asked about my skincare regimen. 1) I sleep a lot 2) I use sunblock 3) Ive been mostly indoors with no makeup so I think my skin has had a chance to recuperate. Your compliments have encouraged me to share some #zeromakeup #zerofilter selfies. The lighting in these pictures definitely help. May have gotten hydra facial maxxxxx 2-3 times in my life. I’m just grateful because I literally do nothing to keep my skin alive and kicking. At my age, it’s imperative. I’m just lazy and lucky. No lies. I occasionally pop an ‘Alpha lipoic Acid’ supplement to cleanse my liver and good skin could be a potential side effect. Im sorry I have no totkas or any other info on the matter. 🙁 I just got lucky. Could possibly be my genes. Maybe also the fact that I haven’t vacationed by the beach in a while…. I have no clue! However; please sleep well, have tons of water and use sunblock that suits your skin type regularly. #skincare #skincareroutine #thankful

“I’m just grateful because I do nothing to keep my skin alive and kicking. At my age, it’s imperative. I’m just lazy and lucky. No lies. I occasionally pop an ‘Alpha-lipoic Acid’ supplement to cleanse my liver, and good skin could be a potential side effect,” she further said.

The starlet said she is probably lucky due to her genes and haven’t vacationed by the beach in a while, maybe that helps her skin. She also advised her fans who want to achieve flawless skin to sleep well, have tons of water, and use a sunblock that suits their skin type regularly.

Importance of skincare

You must not take your skincare lightly and continue looking after yourself by getting enough sleep, working out, having a balanced diet, using the right quality products to avoid any adverse effects, and of course, wash your hands.

This Heartwarming Ad Perfectly Depicts The Efforts Of Our Frontline Heroes

Source: Faisal Qureshi, Facebook

The coronavirus pandemic has retreated the world indoors. However, there are a few of us who have to go out every single day and face the novel coronavirus head-on. These people are our national heroes, a.k.a our frontline workers which include, doctors, nurses, paramedics, and law enforcement officials; they are out there risking their lives in this battle against the deadly virus.

A tribute video by comedian and actor Faisal Qureshi under the banner of Game Over Productions, titled, Salamat Raho has been making the rounds over social media since it was released yesterday. The beautiful video is a public service message that pays tribute to our frontline workers, the Police. Law enforcement officials work non-stop to stop people from moving unnecessarily outdoors during the lockdown. They are out there in an uncontrolled environment facing the coronavirus bravely while performing their duty.

This video will bring you to tears after watching the bond that the policeman and his mother share. When we come to think about it, parents of frontline workers must be worried sick for their child who is out on the battlefield fighting the enemy while the rest of us remain indoors safely.

The policeman says, “Sub Ghar chalay jaengay toh mai bhi ajaunga” this was a message to the general public to remain at home; it is only when people come out on the streets that these policemen have to stay on duty for longer hours.

It was a great initiative to pay tribute to the Police in this video as they are on duty day and night, standing out in the scorching heat wearing a full body kit and armor. The video has received immense love and appreciation from Pakistani netizens and has been viewed more than 200,000 times within the day.

5 Ways How You Can Take Care of Your Parked Car!

Take Care of Your Parked Car
Credits: CoverFox

Your car is one of the most valuable assets you own. However, if it is kept stagnant for too long, it starts to create problems for the owner.

Given that Pakistan is now on lockdown, and there are chances that the lockdown period may exceed if the situation gets worse, the cars will remain stationary.

Idle and unused cars need care and attention. If you are a car owner who has not used the vehicle in days, here are six steps you can take to ensure it remains in good condition.

How to Take Care of Your Parked Car

1. Park Indoors or in Shaded Areas

Cars need to be protected from the dust and sun. The harsh rays of the sun cause damage to the car’s exterior (paint job and body), whereas the dust particles will start to buildup in your car’s engines and pipes and will cause trouble. It is always a good idea to park your vehicles in a garage or under some shade. If you do not have both options, you can simply cover it with a car-cover.

2. Park Away from Nests and Dumps

Credits: Now I Know

If you are parking your car outside, be sure to park away from bird nests and dumps. Birds love doing their business anywhere they seem fit, be it on people or cars. When building nests, birds often drop twigs and other objects as well, which can damage your vehicle.

Moreover, parking your car near a dump can allow rodents to find their way into the car engine. These critters love dark and damp areas and can chew through the wires and other essential parts of your car.

How to Keep Rats & Other Rodents Away From Your Car Engine!

3. Take it out for a Spin

Credits: Freepik

We are not encouraging you to leave your house. Still, after taking all the right precautions, which means wearing masks, gloves, covering your skin, etc., you can make your car around the block for a quick spin so that the engine heats up and can get rid of condensation which has built up inside. Taking short drives keeps the engine and other parts lubricated, making sure they work correctly. You just need to do this once every three days or so for roughly 3-5 minutes.

4. Maintain the Condition of its Battery

Just like we are nothing without our brains, a car is not useful without its battery. Newer vehicles that might have been purchased just weeks ago have newer batteries. If these batteries are not used and maintained, they might need to be replaced. If you do not want to take your car outside for a drive, you can turn it on for a few minutes in your preferred parking spot to maintain proper fluid levels and prevent wire erosions.

5. Keep Your Car Clean & Disinfected

Credits: Car Patrol

It is essential to keep your car clean from germs and bacteria as it will impact on your health as well as the health of your family. However, drivers make a common mistake of using any soap with water to wash their cars. This can lead to paint damage and eventually can cause the body to develop rust. This is why you should use proper care products which have been made explicitly for this purpose.

Top 2020 Entry-level Smartphones Under PKR 25,000

smartphones under 25000

We all strive to get the best among all smartphones under our budget.

We all love money, but we seek for the latest tech smartphone at the same time.

Most users afford entry-level phones, and it’s tough to decide which ones are the best, as there are many competitors, and they are all too good, and they all share similar hardware specs.

So let us put forth a few best and latest entry-level smartphones of 2020.

HUAWEI Y6s (PKR 20,899/-)

Huawei smartphones have always been synonymous with reliability. They have a smartphone in almost every price segment, and those have some of the best specifications in their given price range. Since the all-new HUAWEI Y6s hit the market, it quickly became Huawei’s bestseller in the USD 100/- to USD 150/- price segment.

It’s packed with a 13MP rear camera with HD video recording @1080p, 8MP front camera, capable of 1080p crystal clear video recording. The 6.09-inch Dewdrop display gives a great viewing experience.

It packs 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card. The big 3,020 mAh battery helps to get through the whole day of addictive smartphone users or gamers. EMUI 9.1 assists HUAWEI Y6s  to perform efficiently, avoiding lags and battery drainage at the sharpest resolution and brightest colors.

And as Pakistanis love shiny and elegant phones, HUAWEI Y6s also catches attention because of its stunning Orchid Blue and Starry Black color variants.

Samsung Galaxy A10s (PKR 19,999/-)

Galaxy A10

As you spend 19,999 and save 1 rupee on 20,000, you’re going to get a Samsung A10s 6.2 inch HD+ to display phone, and they named it Infinity-V display. Although other Samsung infinity displays are curved displays, we wonder why A10s’ exhibition is called infinity too.

It’s powered by a giant 4,000 mAh battery, 13MP & 2MP (depth) dual back camera, and 8 MP front camera. Samsung A10s comes with only 32 GB of internal storage. It’s expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card, but most users prefer more internal storage because expandable storage is usually expensive, and it slows down the phone. As far as performance is concerned, A10s has two variants, 2GB and 3GB.

OPPO A5s (PKR 20,999/-)

Oppo A5s

OPPO A5s is a beautiful 6.2-inch smartphone. Powered by long-lasting 4,230 mAh battery, A5s is backed by 3GB RAM, providing 32GB and 64GB storage options. OPPO A5s is loaded with 13MP+2MP back and 8MP front camera.

ColorOS 5.2 and Android 8.1 makes it an attractive device. Although it has 2GB, 3GB and 4GB RAM variants, many people came up with a lag issue on OPPO A5s in their gaming experience. It lacks fast charging, unlike every other latest smartphone. So even though specs are right, you can pretty much only enjoy selfies on OPPO A5s.

Vivo Y11 (PKR 22,999/-)

Vivo Y11

With the high price, Vivo Y11 comes with a 6.35 inch big IPS LCD screen and 5,000 mAh big battery. It also comes with 13MP+2MP back and 8MP front camera. It has 3GB RAM using Snapdragon 439.

Its 6.35-inch display provides convenience for multitasking, while the battery is big enough to power this big screen for a whole day. But this phone carries unsatisfied camera reviews, and some users complained about the noisy pictures.

All phones carry almost the same specs, but Vivo Y11 is the most expensive among these, only because of the bigger screen.

5 Ways Eid Will Be Different This Year Amid The Lockdown

eid ul fitr lockdown
Source:Lifealth.com

The coronavirus pandemic has dampened the festive spirit that the holy month of Ramadan brings with it every year. The usual ‘Iftar’ parties, celebrations, and social gatherings with loved ones have been put to a halt as people tend to remain indoors in their respective houses to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The question looming in everybody’s mind is, how will we all be spending Eid this year during the lockdown? This year, Eid prayers may be held inside homes instead of mosques across the world as countries still decide on the health guidelines to follow for religious gatherings. Whereas the cities that come alive with all the hustle and bustle of people coming out for Eid celebrations will not be happening, instead we would be witnessing a quiet Eid as never seen before.

We’ve listed a few significant ways in which this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr will differ due to the ongoing lockdown:

1. Zoom Conversations Instead of Hugs

Source: DK Find Out

People have been having virtual iftars instead of going to each other’s places the same way going to meet everyone this Eid is a big no-no due to social distancing being followed.

2. No Eidi This Year

Source: Here and Now 365

Sad news for those who look forward to spending their Eidi with friends, eating out, or on a shopping spree for something they’ve been waiting for a long time. No Eidi will be received this time since no guests would be visiting our homes!

3. Less Eid Shopping and More Thinking About the Needy

Source: Gulf Today

During this challenging time, when businesses are closed down due to the lockdown, many people are suffering, especially those who are daily wage earners. This Eid, since we won’t be going out, maybe we could spend less on shopping and donate clothes, food and other essential items to those who need it.

4. No Mehndi Because of Social Distancing

Source: Dawn

Every Chaand Raat feels impossible without mehndi; however, this time around, you will simply have to make do with mehndi application at home. To make things easier, the ladies can opt for temporary tattoo mehndi designs available in stores too.

5. Elaborate Eid Dawats Replaced With Small Family Dinners

Source: YouTube

Extended family gatherings, a.k.a ‘Eid Milans’, will be replaced with relatively small family dinners just with your loved ones at home. Virtual family gatherings can be conducted over Zoom, technology has made this lockdown bearable, and we’re sure it will help make Eid feel less gloomy too!

What other differences do you think this Eid will bring? Let us know in the comments below.

Samsung Confirms Critical Security Flaw in Galaxy Phones

Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

Samsung confirmed a critical security flaw called remote code execution (RCE) bug plaguing in Galaxy Phones that have been sold since 2014. Last week, The company started rolling out the May 2020 security patch.

So if you have a phone that has been sold by the company after 2014, you will sooner or later get the latest update.

You better update your Galaxy phone as soon as possible!

This particular security flaw can be easily exploited in a zero-click scenario. This means that it will most likely work without users’ knowledge. The fault is as critical as they say since the device can be hacked without any kind of interaction with the device.

Samsung Galaxy Buds vs Apple AirPods Pro

Where does the flaw reside?

The security flaw resides in the company’s devices’ handling the custom Qmage image format (.qmg) that is processed by Android’s graphics library.

Tech giant takes full responsibility for the flaw and has acknowledged the security issue. Reportedly, its May security update contains the fix.

What we don’t know for sure is that either Samsung will fix all affected devices or not, however, many sources have reached out to the company for clarity on eligible devices.

Samsung Introduces A New Program to Stop Coronavirus Spread from Phones

The company’s smartphones started supporting the custom Qmage format on all devices released since late 2014.

It is the only one that modifies Android OS on its devices to support the Qmage format, which is developed by South Korean firm Quramsoft.

Samsung is said to be the only manufacturer affected by the bug!

There have been no official statements coming through from Samsung, but the newest May update dubbed as SVE-2020-16747 comprises of Samsung security bulletin that has listed it as a “critical” issue.

It describes it as “A possible memory overwrites vulnerability in Quram qmg library allows possible remote arbitrary code execution.”

What can Hackers do?

With the help of the flaw, the hacker can execute codes without a user’s interaction with the device.

As for what the hacker gains are full access to a variety of personal user information such as call logs, contacts, microphone, storage, SMS messages, etc. which is alarming.

As per Jurczyk, “After reporting the crashes, I spent several weeks working on a 0-click MMS exploit proof-of-concept for one of the vulnerabilities. I managed to achieve this goal with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ phone running Android 10.”

What do you think about security flaws associated with tech giants? Let us know in the comment section below.

How To Disinfect Your Room Amid Coronavirus

Disinfect Your room

Water and soap combined are eco-friendly; together, it does a great job of cleaning your room. A bucket full of hot water and soap combined can be used to clean off surfaces but let me remind you, we aren’t dealing with common bacteria anymore, are we now?

So what must be done to disinfect your room?

With coronavirus spreading like wildfire across the globe, you must disinfect your room at least thrice a week. Around 246,777 have been affected by the virus while 10,063 have died around the world as of today (20th March)

What is the difference between disinfecting your room and cleaning your room?

Please note that cleaning your room is not the same as disinfecting your room. The former means you’re removing germs, but not killing, while the latter means you’re killing them.

This distinction is important because you might clean surfaces effectively, but you do not disinfect them, leaving dangerous germs and bacteria to grow and fester.

What are some of the active agents to disinfect your room?

You can choose natural ingredients such as tea tree oil or vinegar to clean surfaces in your room. Add a little amount of either of the two and wipe off all the high touch surfaces in your room.

More aggressive cleaning agents could be hydrogen peroxide. You do not require to mix it with water. Just use a minimal amount of the product as it is. Unlike vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide does not have an odor.

Manual vs Automatic Transmission: Pros & Cons to Help You Buy Your New Car!

Manual vs Automatic Transmission
Credits: PakWheels

Purchasing a car is not as easy as it seems! It’s not just about which car has the most comfortable seats, or your favorite paint job, or even an attractive exterior!

When buying a car, what matters the most is what’s on the inside, its engine, fuel capacity, features, and most importantly, if its automatic or manual transmission.

What is an Automatic Transmission?
automatic transmission
Credits: Technician Academy

An automatic transmission, also called self-shifting transmission, or AT, in short, is a type of motor vehicle transmission that automatically changes the gear ratio as the vehicle moves, meaning that the driver does not have to shift the gears.

What is a Manual Transmission?
manual transmission cars
Credits: Medium

A manual transmission (MT), also known as a manual gearbox, stick shift, or gearbox, is a type of transmission used in motor vehicle applications. With a manual transmission, the driver has to use a clutch and stick shift to change the gears.

There are three types of manual transmissions, sequential manual transmission, unsynchronized transmission, and constant mesh gearbox.

FBR Discovers Scam Worth Billions in Pakistan’s Automotive Industry!

What are the Pros and Cons of a Manual Transmission Car?

There are some pros as well as some cons to manual transmission cars. Nowadays, outside of countries like Pakistan, manual transmission cars have almost been completely replaced with AT cars.

Manual Car Pros

  • The driver has full control over gears
  • Transmission costs less to repair
  • Usually Less expensive than an AT vehicle
  • The vehicle is more engaging for the driver

Manual Car Cons

  • A limited selection of vehicles offer a manual
  • Can get tiresome in heavy traffic
  • Harder to find a manual on higher trim levels
  • Requires precise control on hills
  • The learning curve is steep

Automatic Car Pros

  • Better gas mileage
  • More comfortable to drive in stop-and-go traffic
  • The majority of vehicles offer automatic transmissions
  • Shiftable AT car gives drivers the best of both worlds
  • The transmission shifts quicker and smoother

Automatic Car Cons

  • Many gears might shift too often.
  • More expensive to buy than a manual car.
  • More moving parts can lead to higher repair costs.
  • Not as fun to drive (subjective)

In the end, the best type of transmission a driver should opt for is based on two factors; the kind of vehicle you’re looking at and your driving style. Drivers can be picky about cars; after all, they are a hefty investment at the end of the day!

Which one do you prefer? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.

5 Things You Need to do Immediately After a Car Accident!

6 Steps International Retailers Will Be Taking Before Opening Their Doors

International retailers
Source: Journal De Cameroun

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the world to stay cooped up indoors, confined to their homes. Lockdowns are in process across the globe to curb the spread of the virus. However, various nations abroad are deciding to ease lockdown. They will be allowing some businesses to regain operations while following the public health guidelines, keeping in mind that the virus is still out there.

Source: VOA

Going back to shop at your favorite store may seem exciting, but it surely will be different from what you’re typically accustomed to. Retailers around the world are preparing new safety protocols to open their doors to the public.

Here are five steps that international retailers will be taking before opening their doors:

  1. Restriction on Entrances

Retailers with multiple entrances have decided to switch to using just one or two depending on the size of the store and the number of staff they have on hand to monitor the people as they come inside.

2. Temperature Checks

You may have experienced the regular temperature checks at grocery stores and other essential places such as banks. However, thermal readers will now become a regular part of the overall shopping experience, at least until the coronavirus pandemic is over. If someone has a temperature reading of 37.5 C or higher, the staff will ask that person to leave.

Source: Quartz

3. Queuing Outside the Store

Customers have already experienced this during the lockdown, outside the grocery stores. This would be continued to allow only a certain number of people to shop at the same time.

4. Sanitization

One of the safety measures for retailers to implement is providing hand sanitizer for employees and customers. Retailers in various countries have been asked to set up hand-washing stations or have alcohol-based hand sanitizers available for everyone entering the store. Shopping carts and handles would have to be wiped down before entering the store.

Source: TribLive

5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Masks and gloves are being worn by everyone who steps outside of their house, grocery store, and pharmacy employees have been wearing PPE suits. It is expected that other retailers will be following the same when they are open their doors to the public.

6. New Changing Room Procedures

The main threat is that of the changing rooms. The majority of retailers have chosen to keep their changing rooms closed for customers. Those who will be opening up their changing rooms will have to sanitize the entire area after each customer uses it, and the clothes they tried on would have to be sanitized and could be re-displayed after three days.

What other safety measures should retailers take? Let us know in the comments below.

The fraud committed is reportedly worth billions. According to the authorities, several car dealers were involved in registering vehicles by misusing the computerized national identity cards (CNICs).

An investigation in a case against Muhammad Khadeen was ongoing at the FBR’ Anti-Benami Karachi office when they had detected the massive fraud as well as tax evasion.

Some of the auto dealers were caught in registering around 400 luxury vehicles worth billions of rupees in the name of Khadeen.

Sources said Zeeshan Autos and some other sub-dealers were involved in the act. Moreover, sources have shared that the FBR has collected data of 0.748 million people from 10 motor vehicle registration authorities of 10 large cities of Pakistan.

Reportedly, these individuals had purchased vehicles of 1300cc or higher multiple times but were not paying taxes.

5 Things You Need to do Immediately After a Car Accident!

Previously, the FBR had discovered that a frontman sent by a leading car assembler had purchased at least 32 vehicles against a deceased man’s CNIC.

The tax department has initiated an inquiry against a government servant, as well as the frontman of leading car assembler, for booking 100 vehicles worth millions of rupees on the CNIC of a deceased person.

Sources informed this scribe that the government official, in connivance with the frontman, booked 100 vehicles worth Rs170 million in the name of Sheikh Khalid, a former resident of Mahmoodabad, Karachi.

As many as 32 vehicles were purchased in the name Sheikh Khalid since his death in 2016, sources shared also adding that the payments for these vehicles were made from the account of the government official.

When the department summoned the accused and asked about the payments made by them, one of the accused stated that he was not aware that Khalid was dead.

Google Is Helping Pakistanis Avoid COVID-19 Online Security Risks

7 May 2020 – As people around the world are staying at home due to COVID-19, many are turning to new apps and communications tools to work, learn, access information, and stay connected with loved ones.

While these digital platforms are helpful in our daily lives, they can also introduce new online security risks. Google’s Threat Analysis Group continually monitors for sophisticated, hacking activity and is seeing new COVID-19 messaging used in attacks, and our security systems have detected a range of new scams such as phishing emails posing as messages from charities and NGOs battling COVID-19, directions from “administrators” to employees working from home, and even notices spoofing healthcare providers.

Google’s systems have also spotted malware-laden sites that pose as sign-in pages for popular social media accounts, health organizations, and even official coronavirus maps. During the past few weeks, our advanced, machine-learning classifiers have seen 18 million daily malware and phishing attempts related to COVID-19, in addition to more than 240 million COVID-related spam messages.

To protect people from these risks, we’ve built advanced security protections into Google products to automatically identify and stop threats before they ever reach you. Our machine learning models in Gmail already detect and block more than 99.9 percent of spam, phishing and malware. Our built-in security also protects you by alerting you before you enter fraudulent websites, scanning apps in Google Play before you download, and more. But we want to help you stay secure everywhere online, not just on our products, so we’re providing these simple tips, tools and resources for you.

How to spot and avoid scams

With many of the COVID-19 related scams coming in the form of phishing emails, it’s important to pause and evaluate any COVID-19 email before clicking any links or taking other action. Be wary of requests for personal information such as your home address or bank details. Fake links often imitate established websites by adding extra words or letters to them—check the URL’s validity by hovering over it (on desktop) or with a long press (on mobile). Keep these downloadable tips handy and learn more at g.co/covidsecuritytips (also available in Urdu).

  1. Know how scammers may reach you – scammers are taking advantage of the increase in COVID‑19 communications by disguising their scams as legitimate messages about the virus. Alongside emails, scammers may also use text messages, automated calls and malicious websites to reach you.

  2. Visit authoritative websites directly. Scammers often pose as well-known, trusted and authoritative sources. Directly visit sources like covid.gov.pk to get the latest factual information about COVID‑19.
  3. Be cautious of requests for personal or financial information. If you receive an unsolicited request for personal or financial information, take extra time to evaluate the message. Scammers will often ask you to input login information, or share bank details and addresses with them. They may also request payment via bank transfer or virtual currency.
  4. Donate directly through nonprofit organizations. Some scams take advantage of goodwill, requesting donations for COVID‑19 relief efforts. Do some research to make sure the nonprofit is legitimate. Scammers can also pose as legitimate nonprofits. To be more confident your money will reach a nonprofit, you can donate directly through their website ─ rather than clicking a link sent to you.
  5. Double check links and email addresses before clicking, Fake links often imitate established websites by adding extra words or letters. If it says something like “click here,” hover over the link or long press the text to check the URL for mistakes ─ being careful not to click it. Misspelled words or random letters and numbers in the URL or email address may also indicate a scam.
  6. Search to see if it’s been reported. If somebody has sent you a fraudulent message, it’s likely they’ve sent it to other people as well. Copy and paste the email address, phone number, or most suspicious portion of the message into a search engine to check if it’s been reported by others.
  7. Add an extra layer of security to your account. For extra protection online, add two-factor authentication — also known as 2-step verification — to your accounts. This provides another layer of security by requiring two steps to gain access to your account: for example, something you know (your password) and something you physically have on hand (like your phone or a security key).

Google continues to monitor the evolving online security threats connected to COVID-19 so that we can keep you informed and protected. For even more tips to help you improve your online security, visit our Safety Center.

Uber Laysoff 3,700 Employees Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic!

7th May 2020: Following Airbnb, Lyft, and Careem’s announcement to layoff at least 31% of its workforce, Uber has also announced to lay off 14% of its employees (3,700 individuals).

The ride-hailing giant announced on Wednesday that the cuts would come from the company’s customer support and recruiting teams.

Why is Uber Laying-off its Employees?

The layoffs are a part of the company’s survival plan to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic, which has resulted in a massive loss to companies around the world.

Uber laysoff employees

On the other hand, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has also agreed to waive his base salary for the remainder of the year.

With people taking fewer trips, the unfortunate reality is that there isn’t enough work for many of our front-line customer support employees.

Since we don’t know how long a recovery will take, we are taking steps to bring our costs in line with the size of our business today.

This was a tough decision, but it is the right one to help protect the company’s long-term health and ensure we come out of this crisis stronger. -Uber spokesman

The company also mentioned in the statement that it has been working on cost-cutting measures to avoid massive layoffs. Many Uber drivers are now sitting at home and are not earning. Reportedly, five have died from the virus itself.

Moreover, Uber is scheduled to have an earnings call with investors on Thursday to discuss its first-quarter financial results.

“Today’s cost-cutting move ahead of tomorrow’s earnings is a painful, but unfortunately a necessary move,” Wedbush analysts wrote in a note on Wednesday.

“On the other side of this dark valley, the Uber business model will likely look a lot different for the next few years (at least), and the company must rationalize costs and a smaller operation to focus on attaining profitability in this ‘new normal’ backdrop.”

5th May 2020: Ride-hailing service, Careem has announced they have laid off 31 percent of their workforce. The directives come straight from the company’s co-founder and CEO, Mudassir Sheikha.

The announcement was made in an online meeting where 536 people (almost 31%) were laid off due to the ongoing pandemic. Sheikha, on Careem’s website, said they were prioritizing the security of the company.

“We delayed this decision as long as possible so that we could exhaust all other means to secure Careem. The crisis brought on by COVID-19 has put our dreams and future impact at significant risk.”

Here’s Careem’s Official Statement:

“Today we’ve had to ask 536 (31%) of our colleagues to leave Careem. The impact of COVID-19 on our business and industry has been severe and has forced us to change the shape and size of our organisation so that Careem can be here for the long-term – which we will.

Letting people go from Careem was a last resort. These are the people that helped build Careem and create massive change and impact for our communities across the region. We greatly value their work and dedication and sincerely hope we will be able to hire those people back once we build a sustainable basis for our future.”

For all of Pakistan:

As we envisioned becoming a Super App, reshaping for some of our markets was already under process, it has been further impacted by the current crisis.

Uber continues to believe in its super-app model.

“As we have discussed several times in the last few weeks, the crisis brought on by Covid-19 has put our dream and future impact at significant risk,” Sheikha said.

“Our business is down by more than 80%, and the recovery timeline is alarmingly unknown. Our parent company Uber, believes in our Super App vision and is committed to the region, but like others in the industry, is also impacted by the crisis,” he added.

The geographical breakdown of the layoffs is unclear, and so it remains unknown how this will affect Pakistan.

“Based on these principles, I gave guidance to each of the leaders and made a distinction between tech and non-tech colleagues; the idea being to protect our tech colleagues in relative terms so that we can continue to invest in our products, and emerge from the crisis with even better products,” said the CEO.

The layoffs mainly would be concentrated in non-tech roles. Careem has suspended BUS mass-transportation operation for now.

The employees will receive essential benefits such as three months of severance pay, one month of equity vesting. In some cases, they extended visa and medical insurance. The news comes in just after Uber closed its Eats delivery business in the Middle East, and laid off dozens of staff.
