The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a significant Rs7.50 hike per unit in power tariff, which is expected to put a heavy burden on electricity bills. This decision was taken in response to the government’s request to increase the basic power tariff. The new tariff is set to be applicable from July 1, pending notification from the federal government after NEPRA’s approval. However, lifeline customers will be exempted from this increase in electricity prices.

With the average tariff rising from Rs22.59 to Rs29.36, households consuming up to 300 units will see their average tariff reach Rs50 after adding taxes. However, the government estimates that this increase in the basic tariff will generate a revenue of Rs600 billion. Peak hour tariff will also witness an increase of Rs6 per unit.

Up to 100 units per month: Rs3 per unit
Between 101 and 200 units per month: Rs4 per unit
Between 201 and 300 units per month: Rs5 per unit
Between 301 and 400 units per month: Rs6.50 per unit
Between 401 and 700 units per month: Rs7.50 per unit and above.

Suzuki Resumes Production: Pakistan’s Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has successfully recommenced vehicle assembly after almost a month-long pause. Surfshark, a VPN and cybersecurity provider, released a new report revealing Pakistan’s rank among the worst countries for internet restrictions in the first half of 2023. The Internet Shutdown Tracker recorded 42 new global internet restrictions, with Pakistan accounting for three. These restrictions followed the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on May 9.
During this period, Pakistan curtailed the use of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Additionally, the country experienced temporary cellular network interruptions for several days after the arrest.

The British retail company, Marks & Spencer Group, wants to increase its imports of textile products from Pakistan. They plan to bring in items like woven garments, denim, socks, towels, graphic design T-shirts, and polo shirts. Monsoon is upon us and with the rainy season, the situation of Karachi’s infrastructure has everyone worried.
The Backstory
The torrential rains over the years have wreaked havoc on the infrastructure of Karachi city. Previously, record rainfalls in 2020 and 2022 left the city drowning. One of the highly acclaimed and posh areas of the city, was in shambles after urban flooding destroyed almost everything.
While people were left stranded in their homes with no food and electricity, the damage to properties and houses became inevitable all because the drainage system of DHA and the city wasn’t good enough to handle such a huge amount of rain. Previously monsoon had also harmed a number of the city’s important roadways and about 35 of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board’s sewerage lines.
While most of the city is now dug up in an attempt to revamp the city’s infrastructure, DHA on the other hand is underway of construction for the drainage system. The ‘DHA Storm Water Project’ has left the entire area upside down with most of the roads being dug up for renovation of drainage systems.

Hauntings are only interesting when you hear them in stories. But when they are actually happening to you, you may not be that excited. Something similar happened to one of our readers, and he shared the story with us. So get ready to hear something told to us by one of our followers.
Hauntings or breeze
This happened right here in Karachi. The story was about an office goer who had to pull an all-nighter at his workplace. Now, pulling an all-nighter is not a new idea or something to frown upon. Most industries, usually news channels and publications, are already 24/7 workplaces while others are only 9 to 5. In 9 to 5 workplaces, out of hundreds, usually, one or two of the staff stays behind when they have to complete a project. So in such a 9 to 5 workplace that we have been told not to name, our follower says he stayed until 3 am. With him was another colleague.
Aside from them, the floor was completely empty and dark. The only lights were on the side the two of them were working. Our follower says that he was rocking his chair a bit while brainstorming, and the designer was busy designing on the computer. Suddenly, from the corner of his eye, he noticed that a chair, three aisles down, was also rocking.

He considered it as being mistaken, so he ignored it because there was no open window. Right at that moment, the same chair smashed into the nearby chair. Startled, he asked his colleague whether he had noticed what just happened.
Jinns…cute?
The colleague who was known to have the sight of the supernatural and was known to almost always pull all-nighters at the office said, “Oh yeah, there are some cute jinns over there who like their presence known.”
With the normal tone, the colleague had replied, the storyteller got scared. To avoid the haunted aisle, he took the back route and just ran out of the office.
