sony Ps5 and new beta update details

Despite there being some initial snags, the Sony PS5 has certainly made a mark on the industry. The console has even suffered through the global silicon chip shortage. There were even plans to redesign the console so as to use less silicon. Now, the beta update for the Sony PS5 is here and it does have a lot to offer. Additionally, it even gets rid of a few problems that were considered minimal faults.

Sony Ps5 And The Update

So, what exactly does the beta update bring to the table? Firstly, the beta update lets you expand the 667 GB of usable storage. Previously, you couldn’t add anything to the storage on your own. Now, with the beta update, you can add your own PCIe Gen 4 SSD. If you worried about storage space running out before, you don’t have to worry anymore. Simply buy and add the extra SSD so you can keep a plethora of games.

Additionally, the Sony PS5 beta update fixes a controller issue too. Before the update, the console needed to be turned on for the controller to update. If you refused the prompt that appeared, you would have to wait 24 hours before being asked to update the controller. However, now there is a whole separate option in the settings. Simply navigate to,

Settings > Accessories > Controllers > Wireless Controller Device Software

Clicking on that will get you the controller update!

Gaming Moving Forward

Apart from the controller update, the beta update improves the UI too. It does not do well for the manufacturer if the consumer is not satisfied with navigation and ease of access. Under the update, it is now easier for the user to turn off the console. Now, you can change how many taps it takes to turn off the console. It is still a mystery why Sony shifted from the long-press.

Apart from that, Sony PS5 also lets you set up parental controls for your kid. If he/she wishes to play a game that you have restricted, a request will be sent to you when they try and want to play that game. However, there is still some hassle involved in this feature and we hope that is improved in the next update.

An Assistant Commissioner from Gujrat got married and set a huge benchmark for Walimas. The newly married couple decided to spend the day with street children, fulfilling their lives and filling their tummies. Could there be a better way to celebrate your union?

The Couple of The hour

The couple of the hour is an Assistant Commissioner from Gujrat, Usman Ashraf Gujjar and his wife, Dr. Natalia Rizwan. The two recently got married and their Walima went viral! The other events of their marriage, according to Ashraf, were normal events. However, as they know Walima is a much bigger event an also because of the Covid situation, they decided on an alternative.

The two are currently working on two projects together. One is urban tree plantation and the other is ‘each one, teach one’ foundation.

Each One Teach One Foundation

This foundation works on ensuring that those children who spend their life on the streets, get educated. Children who pick up trash out of necessity or beg daily. They have a right to be educated also and the EOTO foundation is making it possible for them.

There is a school made for this cause which is run by Ashraf’s friend. Hence, they collected all children from there. The initiative is an incredible action on its own. However, the way the couple promoted it and also served them at their wedding has won our hearts. These children have been forced to work at young ages and this couple made sure to include them on their big day.

Their Interview:

The Better Way Forward

Indubitably, there is no way better than this one, to celebrate your Walima. Their wedding is a simple daigi affair after which they distribute food amongst the poor. When we host normal weddings, even they are also great. However, we host an elaborate function and give food to people who are already privileged enough. Imagine a day of good food for those who often don’t get food at all.

Usman Ashraf and Natalia have set a good standard of charity and weddings. It can very well be that this becomes the trend soon enough and many others follow them. In that case, marriages in Pakistan can start becoming good for the family instead of toxic.

Ayeza Khan Gets Backlash On Problematic Clip From Laapata

Ayeza Khan Laapata

When you fall in love with the promotional content, but then the drama finally airs and you are disappointed; this is exactly what happened with several Pakistanis this week. In promoting her new drama, Laapata, Ayeza Khan had shared stills where the character was dressed as iconic characters and celebrities.

Ayeza Khan – Geeti – Laapata

Dressed up as Madam Noor Jehan, Geet from Jab We Met, and Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, among others, netizens loved each post. The idea seemed different so fans were excited about the story too. But the first episode shattered all hope. Ayeza also shared some clips from it.

In one clip, you can see Geeti (Ayeza Khan) going to a shop. When asked to pay the bill, she refuses to do so. And when the shopkeeper forces her to pay what he rightfully owes, she goes online putting a false harassment allegation on the man.

Mere Paas Tum Ho actress wrote in the caption, “Geeti kese apne he ghalat chakro me phansne wali ha,” (Geeti about to get trapped in her own initiated problems).

Hence, it is clear that her false allegation is going to make her fall in the trap she dug.

Netizens offended by Geeti

Why are netizens offended by this? Is it because this never happens? No.

Everyone knows that there do exist women who exploit movements like MeToo for their own gains. However, bringing this matter up in a time where real victims are already struggling to be heard will discredit them further. The women who are assaulted, raped, left for dead, or murdered, their accounts are all discredited because the masses will now say, “But look, Geeti represented the women who lie; so what if, this particular woman is not a victim but just another Geeti.”

The followers commented that they did not expect this from Geeti.

Really? Even though she took the role in Mere Paas Tum Ho? Even when she did not say anything against Khalil ur Rehman Qamar when he cursed a woman on live TV?

Netizens also want to hold the actress accountable by reminding her that she has thousands (in fact, millions) of devoted followers. What she portrays to them is something they will receive and internalize with ease. This is why she needs to be extra careful with her projects.

Maybe, just maybe, by the phrase ‘ favorite scene’ she did not refer to the story but her own acting skills.

One can only hope.

Considering men do get falsely accused by exploitative women, the idea of the story may not be bad, but the timing surely is. We wonder what Ayeza would say to this.

Google & Kantar Release ‘Journey To Digital’ Research To Shed Light Onto Pakistan’s Online Behavior

Karachi, Thursday July 30, 2021 – Today, for the first time, Google and Kantar shared new research about the digital population in Pakistan. The “Journey to Digital” research outlines how Pakistanis consume the internet and spend their time on digital. The research consisted of 2 stages, comprising 4135 interviews with Pakistanis aged between 15-55 in both urban and rural areas.

Key findings of the research:

● Pakistan’s internet penetration in 2021 is 54%
○ Of these, 76% of Pakistani’s are connected to the internet in the top 3 metros (Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi / Islamabad)
○ Overall, 66% of internet users are based in urban areas while 47% are based on rural areas
○ 46% of all Pakistanis access the internet every day
● Males, Gen Z and employees are significantly more likely to be connecting to the internet.
○ Young males are early adopters, accessing the internet more than any other group. They are also keener to try new things, and need the internet for education and work.
● Non-internet users have no means to access the internet and are limited by two key factors:
■ Majority of non-internet users simply don’t have the means to access the internet. They know about the internet but they can’t get onto it because they don’t have an internet enabled device or a reliable internet connection.
■ The second barrier is familiarity—though Pakistan is familiar with the internet as a concept, their understanding is limited. Non-internet users don’t fully understand the potential of the internet, or what it could offer.
● Internet usage surged due to COVID19
○ Before the lockdown, 79% of internet users in urban locations accessed the internet daily, which increased by 10% since lockdowns.

● Google Search and YouTube are among the most used apps in Pakistan
○ YouTube, used by nearly 90% of all internet users, is the most popular app in Pakistan for streaming music and watching video/TV, and 38% Pakistan internet users go to YouTube in the research phase of their shopping journey.
○ Google Search is one of the top 5 apps/websites used in Pakistan and is widely used when researching and purchasing products online as well as travel, for information needs and even entertainment

● eCommerce is a growth opportunity within Pakistan
○ One-third of all internet users in Pakistan have made a purchase online and one-fourth of these shoppers have increased their spending during COVID19 lockdowns

○ The reasons for turning to e-commerce are manifold. 71% of Pakistani shoppers find purchasing products or services online easy while 66% find it convenient. 54% agree that online shopping websites or apps give personalized product recommendations, which is a common ask from shoppers.
○ Currently, penetration is limited, and purchases are mainly driven by food and clothing categories. However, 66% of consumers believe that online shopping is the way forward, and two thirds of Pakistan online shoppers believe that they will buy products or services online post COVID19. Faraz Azhar, Industry Head, Performance, South Asia Frontier Markets, Google explained, “With half of its population on the internet – Pakistan is now online! This is the first time Google and Kantar released a study to understand more about Pakistan’s internet population. But it’s not only about people getting online, this research has uncovered new insights and behaviors that show how COVID is impacting online behavior and the digital opportunities waiting to be unlocked.”

“More people are coming online in Pakistan, creating a great opportunity for eCommerce businesses – if they are ready to seize it. As we see more exploration of the internet beyond social, e-retailers can capture natural cross-category purchasing on its rise, but only if they have first established themselves and their product offering in an online marketplace. Trust is also crucial, so helping customers gain confidence by showing them how easy, convenient and personal the e-shopping experience will be critical to continuing the upward rise of eCommerce in Pakistan”, Leah Westwood, Client Manager, Kantar added.

For more info, tune into Pakistan’s Journey to Digital event at 3PM on July 29th where industry leaders from Google, Kantar, and other companies will share more details about the research and findings.

Players Refuse To Compete Against Israel In Tokyo Olympics 2020

tokyo olympics 2020

It takes years of struggle to compete  internationally to get noticed and qualifying for the Olympics. Hence, when someone abandons the chance to perform at the Olympics, it has to be something huge. Tokyo Olympics 2020 has already seen two such instances.

Tokyo Olympics players facing Israeli athlete opt-out

Two judoka players have, to date, withdrawn from the competition. They chose to not appear for their match. One of these players belongs to Sudan while the other is from Algeria. Both of them were to face an Israeli athlete, named Tohar Butbul. The athlete from Israel is ranked seven in the global ranking. He was able to proceed without having to put in any effort in two matches. Even then, Tohar did not win any medals.

Choosing to not appear for your Olympic competition is a significant issue but the Sudanese and Algerian players let go of the opportunity.

Algerian Athlete Fethi Nourine

Upon asking, Algerian judoka athlete, Fethi Nourine said that he prepared a lot for the Olympics and he was ready to compete but because he was paired with an Israeli, he chose to sit it out. He mentioned his stance on the Israel Gaza conflict saying the Palestinian issue is a much bigger cause. Of course, now that he has revealed himself to be pro-Palestinian, there are going to be consequences; top of the list is him getting his license suspended by the International Judo Federation. They have also suspended the license of Nourine’s coach.

Sudanese Abdurrasool

The other athlete who did not appear for the match was Sudanese. Sudan’s Abdurrasool was also to have a face-off with the same Israeli player. He, too, chose to not appear. Unlike Nourine, he did not specify his reason to be Israel-Gaza conflict. Rather, the statement by the Sudanese team was that Abdurrasool had sustained a shoulder injury. Israel has refused to believe the story.

Some decisions can affect your entire career. Knowing that, you still take that particular decision, shows how solid you are in your beliefs. In the case of the Nourine, the belief was showing support for Palestine.

Promoting Movie By Scaring People

Netflix orchestrated a stunt to scare the public in Milan as part of a plan to promote a movie. This horror stunt was pulled off to promote its new Italian film A Classic Horror Story. However, not everyone will agree this was a great marketing technique.

The movie was released on Netflix on July 14 and is directed by Roberto De Feo and Paolo Strippoli. The film features five carpoolers who get into an accident in the middle of nowhere. To find shelter, they find an old wooden house that is home to a cult. We all know how it goes from there. Netflix has a theme going on for its site and it’s not hot girl summer. It’s ‘Summer of Horror’ and this movie is the latest addition to that theme.

The Stunt To Frighten Passerby’s

The stunt was devised in collaboration with Publicis Italy and was set up in Milan. It basically had a long LCD screen featuring a mysterious cloaked figure that followed anyone who walked by it. Just when the figure would disappear and people would think it was an ad, it appeared in front of them. There have been videos showing people’s reactions to it and it’s not pleasant!

The video also asks, “The good thing about watching a horror movie is knowing it is just a film, but what happens if fear becomes reality?”. The movie produced by Publicis Italy banks on the public’s fear of strangers. It wants to tell people to be grateful that demonic horrors are only a part of fiction. That is why, the video ends with the statement “Only on Netflix, luckily.”

Coming Soon and Why

Netflix has been showing a consistent decline in the rate of subscription for its streaming services. In the previous year, as a result of the pandemic, the subscription shot up. However, now the vaccinated squad is always ready to go out for entertainment. Is the mega streaming giant going to be experiencing a decline in the coming months? Only time for tell.

For now, it’s all about outdoor stunts for Netflix.

PMD Calls Yesterday Cloudburst In Islamabad “Normal Monsoon Rain”

cloudburst in islamabad

[July 29th, 2021]: The cloudburst in Islamabad that led to flash floods and left two people dead was not really a cloudburst, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). They said that the rain spell in Islamabad was due to the monsoon.

In talks with a local news channel, PMD said that receiving this amount (123 mm) of rain is normal during the monsoon. Moreover, they have also said that Islamabad should expect this intense rainfall in the future as well.

[July 28th, 2021]: Floods and disasters as a consequence of rain is a common phenomenon for Karachi. But seeing it in Islamabad, the well-kept, federal capital of Pakistan, is just unimaginable. The cloudburst in Islamabad, on July 28, 2021, led to the most horrifying videos surfacing on the internet today.

Cloudburst in Islamabad

The name cloudburst comes from the archaic idea that clouds are solid bodies containing water. In reality, however, this happens in deserts or mountainous areas when there is a violent uprush of warm air. Consequently, the rising air prevents the condensing raindrops from falling. As a result, one witnesses heavy rain in concentrated areas.

On the morning of 28th July, Islamabad experienced a cloudburst that affected only two sectors but the damage is extremely horrible. The worst affected areas were E-11 and D-12.

Videos from Islamabad

The videos show how heavy rain is increasing the water level in rivers and dams.

It seems that rain fell heavily that it even swept the road away.

Karachi is used to such scenes, but Islamabad is known for being clean. With the rushing flood that brought the waste from all over to the main streets, it must be traumatic for the Islamabadis.

Islamabad was designed in a way to account for most situations. It seems situations like this cloudburst was also included in it because the water was quick to drain out. However, the new societies surrounding Islamabad are not designed the same way. The water won’t drain out on its own in those areas.

Seeing these videos, we just hope no one was out on the streets as the water was sweeping along roads’ debris and cars.

One cannot even begin to imagine what the after-rain image of this would look like.

While these were horrifying videos, we can not discount the fact that the city in question is Islamabad. Measures will quickly be taken to make it clean and beautiful again. Meanwhile, Karachi has still not properly recovered from even the last year’s rains.
