Source: The Tines

Islamabad: In a historic moment for Pakistani football, the national men’s team secured their first-ever World Cup qualifying win by defeating Cambodia 1-0 on Tuesday. The thrilling victory sent ripples of excitement through the Jinnah Sports Stadium and among fans nationwide. It marked a significant milestone for a country that has faced numerous challenges in the world of international football.

First Leg Ends in a Draw

The first leg of the qualifying match, held in Phnom Penh, concluded in a goalless draw, setting the stage for an intense showdown in the return fixture on Pakistani soil. The lone goal of the match came in the 67th minute when Harun Hamid struck a brilliant half-volley that found the back of Cambodia’s net, igniting joyous celebrations.

Advancing to the Next Round

This victory propels Pakistan into the second round of World Cup qualifiers, where they will face formidable opponents in the form of Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Jordan, setting the stage for another testing journey on the international stage. The win serves as a testament to the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the players and coaching staff who have longed for this moment of glory.

Pakistan’s road to this historic victory was anything but easy. The national team, ranked 197th in the world, had not secured an international win since 2018. Furthermore, FIFA imposed a 15-month ban on Pakistan in April 2021 due to “undue third-party interference.” This was the second ban in four years, severely affecting the team’s progress.

The Constantine Effect

To revive the national team’s fortunes, the appointment of Englishman Stephen Constantine as the new coach brought renewed hope. Constantine had previously coached India’s national team and successfully led them from a ranking of 173rd in 2015 to 97th in December 2018, helping them qualify for the 2019 Asian Cup. His expertise and leadership have been pivotal in Pakistan’s resurgence.

Before their historic win against Cambodia, Pakistan endured a difficult phase, marked by a 13-match losing streak. With Constantine’s guidance and rigorous training, the team began its journey to redemption. Despite facing challenging opposition, they displayed grit and determination.

The Return of International Football

The victory over Cambodia not only signifies Pakistan’s progress on the footballing front but also heralds the return of international football to the country after an eight-year hiatus. The last time Pakistan played an international match on home soil was in 2015 when they faced Afghanistan in Lahore. This breakthrough win is bound to galvanize and inspire a new generation of Pakistani footballers and fans.

As Pakistan continues its journey in the World Cup qualifiers, there is renewed optimism and a sense of purpose within the national team and its supporters. This historic win serves as a reminder that with determination and the right guidance, even the most challenging obstacles can be overcome.

5 Tips to Maintain Your Car’s Resale Value

How to retain Resale Value

When it comes to maintaining a car, it can be quite a careful process. One has to be sure not to lower the Resale Value of the vehicle. If the car has been damaged quite a lot, then it is bound to be sold at a lower price. People don’t prefer to pay more for vehicles that have been in road collisions or other mishaps. This is why a buyer has to take utmost care of the vehicle unless resale is not their concern.

So, how does one make sure that the resale value of their vehicle is being retained? Are there any tips and tricks that will help you keep your vehicle’s value? Of course there are! If you take care of something, it lasts longer. If you take good care of a car, it is going to give long years even to the next owner.

1. Buffing it Out

It is important to note that all minor dents and scratches to a car should be buffed out. When it comes to dents, people tend to gaze quite a lot over them. They might want to buy at a lesser price because of them. The traffic in Karachi is sure to leave your car dented or scratched in some manner. Timely buffing them out keeps the car’s resale value retained.

2. Avoid Repainting for Resale Value

A car is considered at a good value if it still has its original paint on it. It gives the people a form of satisfaction that the vehicle is well-kept and authentic. While there are certain types of paint that will retain the value if done properly, prefer to keep the original paint if it is just on lesser parts of the vehicle. Here, if you see a poorly painted vehicle, it can be an indication that it was in a road mishap and had damage done to its body.

3. Timely Oil Changes for Resale Value

If the oil in the engine is changed timely, it keeps the engine running in a pristine condition. Running it on old oil for extended periods of time can make the engine weaker. Experts who know how to buy cars can tell if an engine is weak. In fact, if you feel the acceleration of the engine is taking time and the car itself is not too old, then the engine is weak. A well-kept engine retains the resale value.

4. Tires, Brakes and Battery

Apart from the engine, these are the three most important components of a vehicle. Keep these in a tip top condition and people are sure to love the drive of your vehicle. Spending on these means that the next buyer will not have to and they will pay full price of your demand.

5. Using authentic Spare Parts

If you ever use cheaper or low-quality performance parts in your vehicle, it is sure to decrease in its value. If you are driving a Toyota, make sure that the parts you replace them with are from an authentic brand. Using lower quality parts means that the next buyer is expected to encounter issues. Those who know how to inspect vehicles can tell the difference.

A Frustrated Expression of Disloyalty

At least back your team till the tournament is going on, at least!” This tweet was accompanied by hashtags related to the Cricket World Cup 2023 and the India vs. Pakistan match, signaling Farhan’s disappointment with fans’ reactions during these crucial cricketing events.

Born in England, Dalton acquired Irish citizenship in 2015 and went on to represent Ireland in four ODIs and four T20Is. Her cricketing journey has led her to Pakistan on two prior occasions. She collaborated closely with various fast bowlers, including Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, Arshad Iqbal, as well as several talented Under-19 players.

Notably, Dalton holds an ECB-certified Level 3 Advanced Coach certification, boasting an impressive coaching pedigree. Her prior roles include positions at the national fast-bowling academy in the UK and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India. Additionally, Dalton served as the assistant head coach at the UK-based National Fast-Bowling Academy, collaborating with notable figures such as Ian Pont and Andre Nel.

Catherine Dalton’s reaction

Dalton expressed her enthusiasm over her appointment. “Having worked in Pakistan with some of the Multan Sultan players on two previous visits, I am thrilled to be officially joining the franchise at the PSL. Never-Say-Die Netherlands Stuns South Africa with Historic Upset

never-say-die-netherlands-script-upset-win-over-south-africa

Netherlands pulled off a historic upset against South Africa, securing a stunning victory in the World Cup 2023.

Scott Edwards’ unbeaten half-century provided the impetus, propelling their bowlers to dismantle South Africa’s formidable batting lineup.

South Africa, coming off dominant wins with totals of 428 and 311 in previous matches looked clear favourites. They had downplayed their previous defeat to the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup and were poised to take revenge.

However, the Netherlands, despite earlier losses to Pakistan and New Zealand, emerged as the underdogs that turned the tables.

Edwards and Roelof van der Merwe played pivotal roles, ensuring a 38-run triumph – a significant milestone for the Netherlands against South Africa in ODIs.

Netherlands found themselves at 50 for 4, and later at 140 for 7 in the first innings. However, a remarkable surge in the final nine overs, led by Edwards (78 not out off 69), van der Merwe (29 off 19), and Aryan Dutt (23 off 9), set a formidable target of 246.

This was an improbable feat given South Africa’s pace attack, including Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, and Lungi Ngidi.

Source: Cricinfo

Van der Merwe’s explosive start in South Africa’s run chase, claiming two wickets for three runs in his initial eight balls, set the tone. Colin Ackermann and Paul van Meekeren joined the early wicket-taking spree, leaving the favourites reeling at 44 for 4.

Quinton de Kock’s dismissal, attempting a paddle shot off Ackermann, followed by Bavuma’s stumps being shattered by van der Merwe’s delivery, left South Africa struggling. Markram’s defences were breached by van Meekeren’s low-bouncing delivery, and van der Dussen’s reverse sweep led straight to Dutt at backward point.

However, a brief partnership between David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen looked promising with a run-a-ball 45. Nonetheless, van Beek’s return to the Netherlands side proved pivotal. Klaasen’s dismissal, which was followed by Miller’s departure tilted the match in the Netherlands’ favour. David Miller scored a fighting 43 from 52 balls.

Source: Cricinfo

Keshav Maharaj and Ngidi’s 41-run stand for the 10th wicket gave some respite to South African fans. However, van Beek dismissed Maharaj, sealing the result with one ball to spare.

6 Cars Under Rs.15 Lac that are Fuel Efficient

fuel efficient cars in Pak

We came to know today that the price of fuel has come down again, by Rs.40 per liter for petrol and Rs.15 for Diesel. This is quite the step down for the price. However, the price itself is still quite high and people would still prefer to drive fuel-efficient cars. If you have a transit in the city on a regular basis, then you would require a vehicle that does not consume too much fuel.

So, if you are looking to purchase a fuel-efficient car in less than Rs.15 Lac, this is the place. We highly recommend looking for vehicles with an engine capacity of 1.3L or less. The higher up you go, the more fuel consumption you can expect in the city. While a 1.8 Toyota Corolla will give a good fuel average on the motorway, it will not be good in the city.

1. Suzuki Mehran

We cannot talk about fuel-efficient cars and leave the Boss of the list. Yes, the car is considered a boss in the country, with its impressive fuel average, its highly affordable parts and low maintenance. It can give you a fuel average of more than 14 in the city, sometimes 15. This is kilometers per liter.

2. Daihatsu Cars – Mira

You can get a decent Mira in this budget. In fact, what better than to get an automatic vehicle in this budget. It has an impressive city average of more than 17 km to the liter. Not only that but it does not require a lot of maintenance.

3. Suzuki Alto

Whether it is the older model of an alto or the newer 660cc one, both of them give you a good fuel average. Of course, the newer one gives an even better one, between 16-18 kilometers but it has a higher budget range. For the older model, it can give a fuel average of between 13-15.

4. Mitsubishi Cars – Lancer 2006/08

While this vehicle comes packed with a 1.3L engine, it is known for a good city average. Not only does it give an average between 12-14 kilometer to the liter, but it also offers comfort and ease. It is definitely worth checking out in this budget.

5. Suzuki Cultus

In this budget, one can purchase the EFI model of the older cultus. Anywhere between the 2014 and the 2016 model can be bought. It can give you a decent city average and allows you to maintain it in a lower price too. This is worth checking out if you are going for fuel efficient.

6. Toyota Cars – Passo

This is yet another vehicle that has an impressive fuel average within the city. You can buy a 1st Generation Passo within 15 lac, from the years 2006-2008. It gives an avg of 13-15 in the city and 18 on the motorway.

In this day and age of fluctuating fuel prices, it is important to purchase a vehicle after a good thought.

The Electrical Revolution

It has been quite a while since the electric evolution started. One can see quite a few electric vehicles being driven in Pakistan. However, there is still time before we are able to get our infrastructure up. Until then, it is possible that we will see more combustion engine vehicles than all-electric ones. Audi and MG are two of the fore-runners in this area.

However, we can expect the KIA electric vehicle to be bought by people once the orders start going out. The release of the vehicle itself is aimed for 2024 so we can expect people to start importing it in late 2024 or 2025. The only other Suv-sized vehicle by KIA can be the Carnival, which is a robust monstrous 11-seater.

Rumours Of Iqrar Ul Hassan’s Third Marriage Break The Internet

The internet is currently ablaze with swirling speculations of third marriage of Pakistani host Iqrar ul Hassan, flooding with images of his alleged new love interest.

According to unconfirmed reports, Iqrar ul Hassan has taken the matrimonial plunge once again, this time with Aroosa Khan, a fellow news anchor currently employed by SA Digital, a platform run by Iqrar himself.

If the rumours hold true, Aroosa belongs to Okara and has been Iqrar’s acquaintance for a long time.

Interestingly, Aroosa Khan maintains an Instagram following that includes Iqrar’s first wife, Qurutulain Iqrar, and has even been seen engaging with members of her family.

What might come as a surprise to many is that Farah Iqrar, Iqrar’s second wife, has openly endorsed the concept of multiple marriages in a recent interview.

Farah said that she has always held that a man is permitted to have four wives in accordance with Islam and Pakistani law and that she will have no problem if he marries again.

His first wife, Qurutulain, too, did not object to Iqrar’s first marriage.

Iqrar ul Hassan has yet to confirm or deny the reports regarding his purported union with Aroosa Khan.

Iqrar’s marital journey has seen its share of milestones. His first marriage was to Qurutulain Iqrar in the year 2006, and the couple has a son named Pehlaaj Hassan. Qurutulain started as a news anchor and later switched to teaching.

Iqrar ul Hassan’s second marriage took place in 2012 when he wed Farah Iqrar. The news of this marriage remained hidden from the public eye for five years, with Iqrar later clarifying that he had not concealed anything, and both his family and close friends were aware of his second marriage.

Signs You Need to Upgrade to a New Smartphone

Source: Xiaomi

In a world where smartphone technology evolves at a rapid pace, it’s easy for your once state-of-the-art device to become outdated within a matter of months. Given that smartphones are often one of your most significant investments, it’s important to make the most of your current phone and extend its lifespan as much as possible. However, it’s equally crucial to recognize when it’s time to part ways with your old device and embrace the new.

6 signs that it's time to upgrade your phone | Join the discussion, ask questions, share advice.
Source: ID community

Here are some clear signs that it might be time to buy a new phone:

Software Updates

If your current smartphone can’t upgrade to the latest operating system, it might be due to outdated hardware. For example, 32-bit processors cannot run 64-bit operating systems, and this can limit your phone’s capabilities. Outdated software leaves your device vulnerable to security threats, making it essential to get a new phone with up-to-date software.

Battery Life

A smartphone with a short battery life can be a significant inconvenience. While you can typically expect your phone to last a full day with light usage, anything less may require a new battery or a new phone altogether.

Random Shutdowns

Frequent and unpredictable phone shutdowns can be more frustrating than a short battery life. If your phone takes its sweet time to power back on or doesn’t turn on at all, it’s a definite sign that it’s time for a new device.

Microphone Issues

If your phone’s microphone becomes faulty, it can result in poor call quality, making it difficult for the person on the other end to hear you. This can be caused by exposure to dust, pollution, and moisture, and it’s a clear indication that you need a new phone.

Storage Woes

Running out of storage space due to pictures and videos is a sign that your current device may not meet your needs. Newer smartphones typically come with more storage options, providing more room for your media.

App Crashes

Frequent app crashes could indicate that your device lacks the necessary RAM to run these apps smoothly. In such cases, upgrading to a smartphone with more RAM can improve your experience.

Sluggish Performance

A phone that remains unresponsive even after regular resets is a strong indicator that it’s time for an upgrade. A new phone with a faster processor and more RAM can provide a more responsive experience.

Manufacturer Support

If your phone’s manufacturer no longer supports your device with security updates, it’s time to consider a new phone. Unsupported devices are more vulnerable to cyber-attacks, which can put your personal data at risk.

KP Governor’s Joyride to Family on Official Helicopter Backfires

Source: The Nation

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali is currently embroiled in controversy after a video depicting his use of a government helicopter for a family and friends’ trip to Swat went viral on social media. The video reveals the governor boarding the helicopter alongside his two grandsons as they embarked on an excursion around Swat. To make matters more contentious, the governor also accommodated a friend and their children on the helicopter for the return journey to Peshawar.

Justification or Excessive Privilege?

When questioned about this incident, Governor Ghulam Ali defended his actions by stating that he had taken his grandsons along because they were on a school holiday. Nevertheless, the incident has ignited public outrage and serves as a stark reminder of similar instances where high-ranking officials have been criticized for exploiting official resources for personal purposes.

A Change of Stance

Ironically, Governor Ghulam Ali had previously chastised a former chief minister, Mahmood Khan, for employing the official helicopter for personal trips and boldly declared that he wouldn’t permit it to land at the Governor’s House. However, this stance underwent a change when the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a bill permitting government officials to use the helicopter for official purposes.

At the time, Governor Ghulam Ali had vehemently opposed the bill, publicly announcing his intention to reject it. Nevertheless, he reluctantly gave his assent to the legislation at a later stage.

This situation has raised several questions about the accountability of high-ranking officials and the ethical use of government resources. While the governor defended his actions by citing his grandsons’ school holidays, it remains to be seen whether this justification will suffice in the eyes of the public.

Transparency and Accountability

The incident also brings to light the need for transparent policies and stringent regulations regarding the use of government resources. Such regulations should not only cover the use of official helicopters but also extend to other public assets to ensure that they are utilized for the benefit of the people and not for personal convenience.

The viral video of Governor Ghulam Ali’s helicopter trip with his family and friends has ignited controversy and public scrutiny. It serves as a reminder of the need for ethical and transparent use of government resources and the importance of holding high-ranking officials accountable for their actions. The governor’s past criticism of similar actions and his eventual acceptance of the bill allowing such use further underscores the necessity for clear and unwavering policies in this regard.

I don’t like talking about relationships that are gone: Mathira

Mathira

Pakistani-Zimbabwean model and host, Mathira, has always intrigued her audience with her unapologetic approach to storytelling. Recently, the internet sensation drew the line on a topic that is very personal to her: her former relationships.

In a recent interview with actor-turned-host Ahmed Ali Butt, Mathira touched upon spirituality, controversies, depression, feminism, childhood and her initial ventures as a host.

During this candid conversation, Mathira also shared her experience of embracing motherhood at the age of 16 and expressed her gratitude to all those who abandoned her.

“I wouldn’t have become the person I am today if those doors hadn’t been closed on me,” she added.

Amid the conversation, Ahmed Ali Butt broached the topic of Mathira’s divorce, but the actor gracefully declined to provide details. “I don’t like discussing relationships that are in the past,” the actress said during her appearance on ‘Excuse Me with Ahmed Ali Butt.’

However, she didn’t hesitate to share about everything else in between.

She openly discussed how her childhood seemed to pass by too quickly, “My childhood felt as though it ended almost as soon as it began,” acknowledging that her parents divorce also played a key role in it.

“At some point, I found myself wondering where my childhood went,” she added.

The 31-year-old actress welcomed another son in 2014 after her marriage to singer Farran J Mirza in 2012.

Who is responsible for the controversies?

Mathira, often reduced to a controversial figure, suggested that it’s not her but rather the people who manufacture these controversies.

“Instead of saying they ‘think’ she is a certain way, they simply state that ‘she really is’ that certain way,” Mathira observed, emphasising the role of public perception in constructing her identity.

Mathira also spoke of her debut as a yoga instructor on a program and how it led to it being misinterpreted as Kamasutra poses, a misconception that lingered among the audience.

“My first appearance on television was as a yoga instructor on a show but people mistook it for kamasutra poses as I was doing it in a sports bra,” Mathira added.

Mathira also explained the controversy surrounding her association with controversial contraceptive brands, expressing gratitude that, in some way, these associations have opened up dialogues, even if they are often in jest.

She recounted an incident from her advertising career in which she was requested to reduce her bust size for a kitchen brand commercial, assuming that she must have had breast implants to look that way.
