The exclusion of the wicketkeeper-batsman, Mohammad Haris, from Pakistan’s squad for the New Zealand T20I series created a buzz last month, leaving fans frustrated.

  6. Social Media Scams: The scammer here utilizes social media to advertise fraudulent services related to PTA registration and tax payment, often with enticing but fake offers.
  7. Demand for Immediate Payment Scam: This blatant scam involves pressuring individuals to make immediate payments under the false threat of having their phones blocked by PTA.

The people of Pakistan pay quite a lot of taxes every year, accumulating to millions, and yet there are still many who don’t. If a person does not fall under the tax bracket due to their income, that is a different story. However, if someone does fall under the bracket and is not filing their taxes, then FBR recently released a statement for them. It seems that it has become quite a serious issue to have quite a lot of people not pay taxes.

We are aware that it is also the state’s responsibility to put the tax capital to good use. However, it is also the citizen’s responsibility to make sure the tax they are paying is filed. The filing stands as proof that the citizen is an honest tax payer. Thus, if you are a non-filer, then the FBR has some dire news for you.

FBR and Non-Filers

According to sources, The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Pakistan has issued notices to non-filers, warning of strict measures under section 114B if they fail to file their returns. Non-compliance may lead to disconnection of electricity, gas, and mobile connections. These notices have been received in the form of text messages to many people who are non-filers. It stands as a warning to file the tax, otherwise they might fulfill what they claim to do.

If you receive such a message on your phone, then do not think of it as spam. In the first phase of enforcement, the FBR plans to block mobile SIM cards and phones of non-filers, with the issuance of an Income Tax General order expected in the current month. Yes, even if you have paid the PTA of your smartphone but you have not filed your tax, your sim connection could be blocked until you do.

Strict Regulations Incoming

It seems that this is quite the strict step from the FBR towards the public, as there was no such news of it before. This means that non-filers will have to either the file the tax themselves or contact a tax lawyer to help them do it. The FBR is also working on a strategy to disconnect electricity and gas connections of non-filers, although it currently lacks complete data on the electricity connections.

The country is already facing load-shedding of electricity and gas. It seems quite a tough measure to also put this looming doom over their heads. They might lose gas and electricity both if they are not able to file their tax soon. First, the M-Tag was made mandatory on the motorway and now filing is a must. While they can seem strict, the initiatives are good.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket Australia came together to address scheduling conflicts between the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Big Bash League (BBL) yesterday.

According to Salman Naseer, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of PCB, an agreement has been reached to prevent clashes in the future, ensuring a harmonious coexistence of the two premier T20 leagues.

The collaboration between the two cricket boards extends beyond scheduling concerns, as both boards acknowledged the increasing number of cricket leagues globally. The two boards stated to commit to managing player availability more effectively. With players having multiple league options, the emphasis is on careful workload management and ensuring a balanced approach to player commitments.

Expressing gratitude to Cricket Australia for fruitful interactions, Naseer stated, “We have reached a principle understanding with Cricket Australia about ensuring that there won’t be any clashes as far as BBL and PSL are concerned in the future.”

“We also talked about player availability keeping in mind that the players have a lot of options, in terms of leagues, and we need to be careful about their workload management. In the future, both the boards will assist each other with regards to a good pool of players for both PSL and BBL while also ensuring better handling of No Objection Certificates,” said Naseer.

The strategic alignment aims to improve overall quality and pool of players for both leagues, while creating a conducive environment for players.

As part of this cooperative effort, the agreement also outlines increased interactions between junior teams of Pakistan and Australia in various formats. Karachi, Pakistan, January 10, 2024: Today, YouTube unveiled lists ranking the top trending videos, music videos, Shorts, creators, and breakout creators in Pakistan. This year’s lists are reflective of the most important moments to unfold in 2023 on and offline.
In order to respond to the demand for more active content, the arrival of YouTube Shorts became a fresh breath on the platform, both for creators and users. The latter are looking for information or entertainment material that is much faster and more accurate, so a format that takes a few seconds is ideal for audiences such as millennials and Generation Z. YouTube announced that YouTube Shorts is now averaging over 70 billion daily views. Last year, the number of channels uploaded to Shorts daily grew by over 80%, and YouTube Shorts are being watched by over 2B logged-in users every month.
The long-form content also resonates well with Pakistani audiences, indicating that despite the varying patterns of users’ consumption behavior, both formats continue to enjoy the dominance of video-form content in Pakistan. An example of this is the top trending videos, which are about different topics each year, the content is more striking and visually appealing, in short: it causes an impact. Also, the Top Trending Videos list is based on a range of factors – beyond just views – that indicate how “trending” a video really is. The YouTube Culture & Trends team also considers engagement and looks at signals like shares and likes of a certain video.
Farhan Qureshi, Google Regional Director for Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, mentioned that “the top trending lists of this year reflect the cultural evolution in Pakistan, notably marked by a substantial rise in Shorts viewership and distinct fan bases forming around specific content categories such as music, dramas, and vlogs. Moreover, creators are embracing multiformat approaches in order to explore new genres and audiences. Moving forward, we anticipate the ongoing expansion of multiformat content, resulting in a more varied and interesting range of content than ever.”
Music is also a type of content that is popular on YouTube. In 2023, YouTube Music and YouTube Premium,  a paid membership, enhanced the viewing experience with ad-free content, offline and background play providing an immersive music experience.
In keeping with this, artists continue to broaden their horizons through multiformat, allowing their audiences to learn more about them via a variety of format types. Zamzam Electronics Trading is an example of YouTube creators who have successfully positioned themselves in multiple formats. Their videos, “watch funny magic of fan” and “happies is helping others,” have propelled them to the top of the Top Creators and Breakout Creators lists.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently found itself embroiled in controversy regarding the use of funds from Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) kitty, which is part of Pakistan’s National treasury.

Reports have surfaced suggesting that the PCB, despite claims of financial independence, received a substantial amount from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) kitty in the past.

The sum of Rs. 205 million allocated to the PCB from the PSB’s funds for Olympic sports development was reportedly utilized to reward the cricket team for their Champions Trophy success back in 2017.

This action has raised eyebrows, as PCB has always claimed that it has never taken a single penny from the national exchequer, hence is not answerable to the government.

However, the champions’ prize money was seemingly drawn from the PSB’s budget rather than the cricket board’s coffers, leaving questions about equitable allocation and support for other sports.

While PCB officials have always contended that the government doesn’t financially support the cricket board, concerns have been raised over the allocation of funds meant for Olympic sports development being diverted to cricket.

Critics argue that while the Prime Minister, as the patron-in-chief of the PCB, might have the authority to allocate funds for cricket, however, extracting resources earmarked for other sports during events like the South Asian Games is unjust and compromises support for Olympic athletes.

The controversy further unravels as it’s revealed that a significant portion of the PSB’s special grant remained undiverted to Olympic sports, questioning the prioritization of funding in the realm of sports in Pakistan.
