Google Takes Away the ‘View Image’ Option

Go to Google, type in your image search, find one you like, click, view image and save. Done.

Well, not anymore!

Now search engine users will get the option to ‘visit website’ where they can expect to wait for the page to load, scroll down to the image and then be faced with the option to right click, or not, as some websites are now revoking that privilege too.

What is behind the change?

Does it tie in with their new multi-year global licensing deal with Getty Images for usage rights within various products and services? A tweet from Google Search Liaison (@SearchLiaison) addresses some of the questions regarding their reasons:

“For those asking, yes, these changes came about in part due to our settlement with Getty Images this week (see also The Verge). They are designed to strike a balance between serving user needs and publisher concerns, both stakeholders we value.”

The tweet directs followers toward an article by The Verge, which notes that

“Google has long been under fire from photographers and publishers who felt that image search allowed people to steal their pictures, and the removal of the view image button is one of many changes being made in response.”

The report then goes on to mention the importance of driving traffic to the websites.

“The intention seems to be either stopping people from taking an image altogether or driving them through to the website where the image is found, so that the website can serve ads and get revenue and so people are more likely to see any associated copyright information.”

Indian Brand Trolls Imran Khan!

Indian dairy giant, Amul seems to be targeting Pakistan in its latest advertisements. The largest food making company recently took a dig at Pakistan not just once but twice! The tweets sent out by Amul have definitely created an uproar on the Internet.

The cricketer turned politician Imran Khan’s third marriage with Bushra Maneka has been worldwide news. Not only were Pakistanis trolling Khan for it but Indian dairy brand, Amul rolled out an advert targeting Imran Khan, cashing in on the viral news in Pakistan.

The picture shows an animated version of Imran Khan and his new wife and a question that reads,

“Still bowling a maiden over?”

The picture further reads,

“Amul, wedded to bread!”

Indian Dairy Giant, Amul Takes a Dig at Imran Khan!

The tweet went viral over the internet and was shared a number of times on Twitter and other social media forums.

However this was not the first post where Amul targeted Pakistan. In a recent picture posted by the dairy brand’s creative team, they went on to the extent of calling Pakistan as ‘Pakishaitan’.

The compulsion behind the horrendous post came after a group of terrorists attacked the Sunjuwan army camp and the CRPF camp in Srinagar’s Karan Nagar area.

The cartoon was tweeted with the caption

“The cowardly attacks on our borders continue!”

Amul Takes a Jibe at Pakistan!

The cartoon picture is titled Pakishaitan and shows the Indian army fighting against the terrorists. It further states, ‘Amul: for trustworthy neighbours’ taking a direct hit towards Pakistan.

Fake News About Mandarin Becoming Official Language in Pakistan Creates an Uproar on Social Media

In the era of breaking news and getting the juiciest scoop to audiences, media houses sometimes twist news reports which then result in ‘fake news’.

A similar case has been reported by Abb Takk News who have claimed that the Pakistani Senate has approved a motion to declare Mandarin as one of the official languages of Pakistan.

The tweet that created the buzz over the Internet mentions the Chinese Language being declared as the official language!

The motion, on the other hand, was completely different and highly misreported by the news channel.

The resolution moved was as follows:

“The House recommends that, in view of the growing collaboration between Pakistan and China under the CPEC, courses of the official Chinese Language should be launched for current and prospective Pakistani CPEC human resource in order to overcome and costly communication barriers.”

However, the Abb Takk tweet created havoc on Twitter and reactions began pouring in from Pakistanis and a few people across the border joined in too!

Pakistani actress Armeena Rana Khan also shared her thoughts on the strange news!

Twitterverse was outraged at the idea!

However, people soon caught on to the truth and the actual resolution was posted!

Former Pakistani Cricketer’s Son Commits Suicide After Rejection

Teenage years are known to be the most complicated when the individual is depressed, become rebellious, and makes hasty decisions on an emotional basis.

One such incident is of former cricketer Aamer Hanif’s son, Muhammad Zaryab, who committed suicide after being dropped from Pakistan U-19, because he was 19+, he was also declared as ‘average’ player.

According to Zaryab’s father, the lad was depressed after his dropping and was not able to handle the news well. The first-year student decided to end his life by hanging himself.

“My son was pressurized, he was told he was overage. The coaches’ behavior towards him forced him [to kill himself],” said Hanif, as he pleaded for “other such sons to be saved” from ‘such [non-cooperative] environment’, added Hanif.

https://youtu.be/cP3ZS3xaB4k

Hanif also mentioned that Zaryab was playing for the U-19 earlier last month in a tournament in Lahore, but was sent home with an excuse of an injury, despite Zaryab claiming the injury is not too serious and he can continue to play.

Prayers for the deceased will be offered today.

Salman Khan Faces Backlash For Supporting Pakistani Singers Over Indian Artists

Salman Khan has never shied away to show his love and devotion towards Pakistan!

Despite cross-border tensions between both the neighbors, the Dabangg hero has remained his stance on maintaining peace!

Countless times in his various interviews, Khan has supported our nation and even condemned the ban on Pakistani stars working in India.

However, his pro-Pakistani statements and views always drew ire from Indian critics who label him a ‘traitor’ for promoting talent from Pakistan in his movie.

Recently, Salman has found himself in the eye of a social media storm for replacing Arijit Singh with Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in  ‘Welcome To New York’

Over years, there has been a rumored cold war between the Tubelight star, and the singer. It is said it was Salman that led to the removal of Arijit’s already recorded songs from movies like Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Tubelight, and Kick.

The tussle has now been revived with a new song in Welcome To New York. Sallu Bhai has ordered that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan should sing the tune instead of Singh

There is an outpour of hate on Indian twitter over Salman Khan regarding the matter!

Angry fans are even abusing Salman Khan for harboring a soft corner for Pakistanis

Earlier in an interview, popular Indian singer Babul Supriyo bashed Salman Khan for his preference of Pakistani artists over those of his own nation.

“I am also not sure why Atif got to sing Dil Diya Gallan when Arijit could have done a much better job. The FM stations played the song galore, while news channels announced the name of our soldiers martyred by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists”

Well, Supriyo is clearly jealous! Clearly, Pakistani singers have put him out of business and he is unhappy about it.

Civil Hospital Doctor Beaten by Nurses Over Harassment Claims

There are no words to describe how low have some people fallen, even after Zainab’s incident went international, and campaigns were conducted, there are still people who are using their authority and thinking they can get away with harassment.

One such example is a Civil Hospital doctor, who was beaten up by nurses, in Mirpurkhas for sexually assaulting them and for physical abuse.

The nurses also said that he used to blackmail them via text messages and sent inappropriate messages too. The nurses also mentioned that they are being pressurized and need protection by the police.

One of the nurses claimed that the doctor had been going on with this behavior with her and the other nurses in the OT for a week, including sending messages with threats. When she confronted him, he had physically abused her.

However, the doctor claims that he had done no such thing, instead, he had asked them to not put on make in the OT to which they had ‘attacked’ him.

That’s not all, the nurse also shared that the doctor had previously abused a patient as well in the past and he has a history of such unacceptable behavior. Hospital documents show that back in 2014, the doctor was accused of sexual harassment.

Upon investigation by the hospital authorities, found guilty of engaging in inappropriate behavior with a woman. He was then ordered to be dismissed, in a notification issued by the hospital chief secretary.

However, he got away because of the ‘influential’ authority. Minister of Health Dr. Sikandar Mandhro, taking notice of the incident, said if found guilty, the doctor would be handed out the strictest punishment.

“In this profession [of serving humanity], such [behavior] is unacceptable. We will ensure [if found guilty] he will be given the strictest punishment,” Dr. Mandhro told Geo News. He further stated  “we are answerable”, to the doctor’s return despite guilty status.

Saudi Arabia’s Women to Start Own Business Without Male Permission

Five Women Who Made Oscars History

The 90th Academy Awards honoring the best films of 2017 will be held Sunday, March 4, 2018. Women are expected to take center stage at this edition following the various harassment and discrimination scandals currently shaking up Hollywood, notably since the Weinstein revelations broke. Here are five women who have made their mark on Oscars history since the prestigious US movie industry awards began in 1929.

Hattie McDaniel

https://youtu.be/e7t4pTNZshA

In 1940, at the 12th edition of the Oscars, Hattie McDaniel became the first African-American actress to win a golden gong for her supporting role in “Gone With the Wind.” It wasn’t until 2002 that an African-American actress won for a leading role, when Halle Berry scooped “Best Actress” for “Monster’s Ball.”

Jane Fonda

In 1979, the actress — known for her stance against the Vietnam War — won her second Oscar for “Coming Home,” a movie about the trauma experienced by US soldiers returning home. When accepting the award, Jane Fonda used sign language in her speech.

Marlee Matlin

https://youtu.be/2y4K_Xc7-JU

Eight years later, the “Best Actress” Oscar went to Marlee Matlin, a deaf actress who played a deaf-mute character in “Children of a Lesser God.” Her victory was greatly applauded, notably by fellow nominees Jane Fonda, Sissy Spacek, Kathleen Turner and Sigourney Weaver.

Kathryn Bigelow

https://youtu.be/e-DPBOTlSWk

In 2010, Kathryn Bigelow made Oscars history as the first woman to win the Academy Award for “Best Director” for “The Hurt Locker.” “Well, the time has come,” announced Barbra Streisand as she opened the envelope to reveal the winner’s name.

Patricia Arquette

The actress moved the Oscars audience in 2015 with a passionate speech in favor of equality between men and women in the USA when accepting “Best Supporting Actress” for her performance in Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood.”

The Most Popular Filming Locations Around the World

When it comes to the most popular filming locations in the biz, there’s one city that gets more screen time over others. If you guessed “the concrete jungle where dreams are made” as described so succinctly by Jay Z, you guessed correctly.

After combing through 20 years’ worth of data on the IMDb database, insurance comparison website GoCompare came up with lists of the most popular filming locations around the world.

Good morning, New York. #tlpicks courtesy of @drwclrk

A post shared by Travel + Leisure (@travelandleisure) on

With 3,630 films and TV shows shot along iconic destinations like Fifth Avenue and Central Park, Manhattan tops the category of “area” followed by Hollywood, California (3,262), and Brooklyn (2,608 times).

The city that’s most romanticized on the big and little screens? That distinction also goes to Manhattan which, according to IMDb, has served as the setting for the greatest number of romance films or TV series. Think rom-com classics like “Serendipity” “You’ve Got Mail” and the cult TV series that made Manhattan the show’s fifth character, “Sex and the City.”
Other genres that are popular in Manhattan include drama, action, biography, documentary, fantasy, musical and mystery.

With 231 movies under its belt, Central Park is the top filming location overall, with supporting roles in Hollywood blockbusters like “The Devil’s Advocate,” “Superman Returns,” “Spider-Man 3” and “John Wick.”

Given the breadth of stories that come out of New York, it’s not surprising that the list of top 10 filming locations is dominated by the neighborhoods and boroughs of the city: After Central Park, the list is occupied by Greenwich Village, Astoria, Williamsburg, Coney Island, Times Square and Harlem.

Google Begins Blocking Annoying Ads on its Browser

Google has begun a new effort to block annoying ads on its Chrome browser, as part of an initiative aimed at improving the online advertising ecosystem that provides the bulk of its revenues.

The new ad filtering system rolled out this week aims to eliminate the most irritating marketing messages such as pop-ups, auto-play video ads and “sticky” boxes which cannot be removed.

The system was implemented by Google in partnership with the Coalition for Better Ads, an association which includes the internet giant and a number of media and advertising partners.

“While most advertising on the web is respectful of user experience, over the years we’ve increasingly heard from our users that some advertising can be particularly intrusive,” Google engineering manager Chris Bentzel said in a blog post ahead of the rollout Thursday.

“Chrome will tackle this issue by removing ads from sites that do not follow the Better Ads Standards.”

While Google’s effort is expected to block only a small percentage of ads, it aims to counter a growing movement to install third-party ad blockers which filter all such advertisements and could be a threat to firms relying on online revenues.

According to a study last year by the research firm PageFair, about 11 percent of the global internet population uses ad-blocking software, affecting 380 million mobile devices and 236 million desktop PCs.

Google vice president Rahul Roy-Chowdhury said the move aims to improve the online ad system even if it means blocking some ads from Google itself.

“To us, your experience on the web is a higher priority than the money that these annoying ads may generate — even for us,” Roy-Chowdhury said in a blog post.

“The web is an ecosystem composed of consumers, content producers, hosting providers, advertisers, web designers, and many others. It’s important that we work to maintain a balance — and if left unchecked, disruptive ads have the potential to derail the entire system.”

Google and its partners in the ad coalition thus appear to be aiming to head off a consumer revolt which could choke off revenues to internet, media and advertising companies.

The Coalition for Better Ads said in a statement Thursday it “is pleased by the large number of companies in the online ad industry that have embraced the Better Ads Standards and taken action on their own and with their business partners to discontinue the ad formats consumers find most annoying and disruptive.”

Google Takes on Snapchat With its Own ‘Stories’ Format

Google launched its own “stories” format Tuesday to compete with Snapchat and Instagram with image-driven news articles aimed at mobile phone and tablet users.

Content for its “AMP stories” initially comes from outlets like CNN, The Washington Post, Conde Nast, Wired and US People magazine, and is designed to load much faster on mobile devices than conventional articles and videos.

“On mobile devices, users browse lots of articles, but engage with few in-depth,” said Rudy Galfi, who is heading the drive at Google.

Images, videos and graphics help get readers’ attention as quickly as possible and keep them engaged through immersive and easily consumable visual information,” he added.

“AMP stories” articles fill the screen and are image and video led. Users can tap on the home screen to read further or simply swipe to the next article.

Google claims the format, which it is opening up to software developers, gives “novel ways to tell immersive stories” without the “prohibitively high start-up costs, particularly for small publishers”.

It was developed with major US media outlets and can also be read on a computer, although its promoters said the immersive effect is better on mobiles.

“AMP stories aim to make the production of stories as easy as possible from a technical perspective,” Google said.

“The mobile web is great for distributing and sharing content, but mastering performance can be tricky,” it added.

But AMP Stories give “gives great editorial freedom to content creators,” it claimed.

Snapchat, Instagram and particularly Facebook have all heavily used their own stories formats for full-screen displays of content.

Google said it eventually plans to bring “AMP stories to more products across Google, and expand the ways they appear in Google Search.”

Blockchain Revolution Comes to World of Humanitarian Aid

Blockchain, the technology behind the cryptocurrency bitcoin, is taking root in a sector far from finance: the world of humanitarian aid.

By offering refugees a virtual identity, reassuring donors that their money is being well spent, or rushing funds where they are needed most, aid charities are experimenting with the technology in the hopes that it can improve their work.

“We are at the very beginning. There is a lot of hype,” said Christopher Fabian, leader of UNICEF’s Ventures Fund, which invests in open source technology solutions.

At the end of 2017, UNICEF — the UN agency dedicated to protecting children — brought together Russian-speaking blockchain experts in a meeting in Kazakhstan.

The goal? To develop a “smart contract” that would facilitate transactions between the organization and its numerous partners for deliveries and payments, if certain conditions were met.

“It totally failed, but we learned a lot from that and will do the same challenge this year in Mexico,” Fabian admitted, adding that he could envision a host of future projects using blockchain for the “social good” — even if most of them will fail.

But the agency is thirsty for innovation!

Its French office has also launched an operation dubbed Game Changers (for blockchain), which challenges tech geeks and gaming enthusiasts to install on their computer’s software aimed at creating Ethereum, a virtual currency, to help Syrian children.

Blockchain allows users to create and spread information across a large network of computers, which its proponents say lends it both transparency and security. And the applications for the technology are multiplying quickly.

For aid and development groups, blockchain can come in all shapes and sizes.
Aid donors could, for example, trace their contributions as they spread across an organization. The platform Disberse, supported by a network of 42 humanitarian groups, already road-tested this application by tracking money sent by a British association to four schools in Swaziland.

In theory, the technique can reduce transaction costs, fight corruption by making everything transparent, and allow a better record of where food aid is directed, or make sure that medicines are not counterfeited.

Those in charge of programs that directly send money to people in need also see it as a way of more easily controlling the disbursement of funds or avoiding use of financial intermediaries such as banks, which might also take a cut.

“In the old days, we were delivering aid at the back of the truck,” said Alex Sloan, a consultant at the World Food Programme’s Innovation Accelerator, which works with start-ups and others to help fight hunger.

“Now, we are moving toward distributing cash to our beneficiaries, in the form of actual cash, through vouchers, e-cards, et cetera.

Sloan’s organization has already field-tested a pilot project in Jordan’s Azraq refugee camp, where Syrian refugees can use iris-identification technology at a cash register to buy food and supplies.

The amount of money is then passed on via a blockchain-based computing platform.
The program is currently private and used only by the WFP, making it more of a database project than a real blockchain.

But Sloan said it could serve as a “tool to bring different partners and organizations together to collaborate and make the industry much more effective.”

– ‘Scary implications’ –

The expansion of blockchain is not without risk.
Besides the technical constraints, such as the need for an internet connection, blockchain poses some basic questions about governance and data protection.

How to ensure, for example, that key information about refugees is not hacked by dictatorial regimes? Who authenticates the data? Which countries accept virtual portfolios?

“It’s hard to navigate the regulatory environment or the lack of it,” said Rosa Akbari, technology advisor at the US charity Mercy Corps.

Her group recently teamed up with tech giants Microsoft and Accenture for the ID2020 Alliance, working on a virtual identity model to help refugees.

“We need to have more understanding of what is going on and we want to have a seat at the table,” said Akbari.

Blockchain has enormous potential but still has a long way to go, she said.
In fragile states, and dealing with people facing great hardship, “there could be some scary implications if we don’t do it responsibly,” she said.

Saudi Arabia’s Women to Start Own Business Without Male Permission

Saudi Women

Women in Saudi Arabia can now open their own businesses without the consent of a husband or male relative, as the kingdom pushes to expand a fast-growing private sector.

The policy change, announced by the Saudi government on Thursday, also marks a major step away from the strict guardianship system that has ruled the country for decades.

“Women can now launch their own businesses and benefit from (governmental) e-services without having to prove consent from a guardian,” the ministry of commerce and investment said on its website.

Under Saudi Arabia’s guardianship system, women are required to present proof of permission from a male “guardian” — normally the husband, father or brother — to do any government paperwork, travel or enrol in classes.

Long dependent on crude production for economic revenue, Saudi Arabia is pushing to expand the country’s private sector, including an expansion of female employment under a reform plan for a post-oil era.

While women still face a host of restrictions in the ultraconservative Muslim kingdom, Saudi Arabia’s public prosecutor’s office this month said it would begin recruiting women investigators for the first time.

The kingdom has also opened 140 positions for women at airports and border crossings, a historic first that the government said drew 107,000 female applicants.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the powerful heir to the Saudi throne, has been leading the drive to expand the role of women in the workforce in recent months.

His father, King Salman, in September approved the end of a decades-long ban on driving, which goes into effect in June.

The 32-year-old prince pledged a “moderate, open” Saudi Arabia in October, breaking with ultra-conservative clerics in favour of an image catering to foreign investors and Saudi youth.

Prince Mohammed is widely seen as the chief architect behind Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” reform programme, which seeks to elevate the percentage of women in the work force from 22 percent to nearly one-third.

My “home land” is better than your “homeland”.

Dear West,
My “Homeland” is not scary.
It is not grey and black,
It is not brown and dusty,
It is not empty and barren,
It is not monolingual.

My Homeland is where colours pop,
where people laugh,
and smile.
Where hundreds of languages are heard,
and hundred more dialects are spoken.
Where the stringed instruments visualise
and drums synchronise.

My Home land is not your “homeland”
My home land is my home
My home land is my land
My Home land is not your “Homeland”

A post shared by Khaani_official (@__khaani_official__) on

Here’s what Feroze Khan revealed about his upcoming wedding:

“I can’t reveal everything [about my personal life], but I am getting married soon. My wish is to do it quietly and without any extra attention of any sorts. Kaam, kaam hota hai, and personal is personal, I want to draw a line.”

The Khaani star has added that the girl of his dreams is someone outside the showbiz industry, looks like all the Sajal Feroze lovers will have to put their fantasies on hold! Feroze also said,

“It’s a responsibility, and I want to prove myself as a good partner. I am just praying that it all goes well, so let’s see!”

Khan had previously ‘hinted’ on his wedding in a picture he posted back in November last year. The BTS shot was taken from Feroze’s upcoming project Romeo Weds Heer. Surprisingly he did mention he was 100% okay in getting married after playing the character on screen.

“I looked like this on the sets of ROMEO WEDS HEER, I am legit 100% ok getting married now after playing this character and all the madness. Haha. You will know what I’m saying when it’s out. But for now, Khaani is airing in 3 days on #GeoEntertainment don’t miss the beginning!”

Amongst all the broken hearts, it does make us wonder whether this is just another promotional campaign for the upcoming TV project, Romeo Weds Heer, and Dino ki Dulhaniya? Both titles seem to revolve around marriage and Khan has just broken the news about his wedding too. Coincidence much?

Here’s how social media is reacting to the news!
