On the advice of legal computer business firms and several stakeholders, a mutual agreement by the FBR has been made to impose a fixed duty on the import of computers, laptops and their related parts to cease the mugging on the duty charges.

The fixed duty will be implied on the import of more than 100 pieces of such items.

According to the agreement, there will supposedly be a 5.5 billion increase in the revenue whereas the authoritative’s will be able to earn some extra few million after the import of over 100 items.

According to the sources, the earlier imports of over 100 items including laptops, desktop, USB’s risked the factors of under-invoicing smuggling, due to which the responsible law agencies are facing challenging difficulties and a great loss of revenue, whereas the business owners working with all legalities are being strained by the FBR.

The recommended agreement revealed that the duty imposed on IT items like laptops and notebooks is unconventional. The manufacturers of such items are not only facing the problems on receiving fair duties, but they also run into high paying taxing problems on the domestic level.

On the other hand, the new agreement, waiting to be agreed upon, dismisses such drawbacks and looks up to minimize these barriers.

Check out the taxes imposed in the new agreement:

  • GST registration that required 50 lacs earlier now requires 20 million at least
  • 3000 rupees charges on every laptop
  • 100 rupees charges on every laptop bag
  • 250 rupees charges on single battery of the laptop
  • 3500 rupees charges on desktop import
  • 40 rupees charges on 0-8 gigabytes USB
  • 2000 rupees charges on each Tap drive

By imposing these duties on over 100 IT items, the government will be able to increase the revenue up to 5 billion 37 crore rupees.

The authorities are in a process of conducting meetings and deliberate decisions regarding this agreement. The final decision to sanction this agreement will be asserted soon.
