After several Pakistani politicians, British celebrities including actress Emma Watson have also been named in latest Panama Papers leaked database. According to the Offshore Leaks Database ‘Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson’ is a beneficiary in an offshore company based in the British Virgin Islands.
A spokesman of Emma Watson did not deny the claim. He confirmed that the Harry Potter actress did set up an offshore company but the sole purpose behind it was anonymity and safety, and the star does not receive any tax or monetary advantages from this offshore company.
The spokesman while speaking to The Spectator’s gossip columnist says: ‘Emma (like many high profile individuals) set up an offshore company for the sole purpose of protecting her anonymity and safety.

UK companies are required to publicly publish details of their shareholders and therefore do not give her the necessary anonymity required to protect her personal safety, which has been jeopardized in the past owing to such information being publicly available.
Offshore companies do not publish these shareholder details. “Emma Watson receives absolutely no tax or monetary advantages from this offshore company whatsoever – only privacy.”
Other notable personalities found in leaked database is reality television star, Simon Cowell who owns two British Virgin Islands companies and actor Jackie Chan who owns at least six offshore companies in the British Virgin Islands.
