The Board of Directors of National Information and Communication Technologies Research and Development Fund Company have appointed Telenor’s CEO, Michael Foley, as the new director of board, as a representative of cellular mobile industry of Pakistan.

Michael Foley was appointed unanimously by the board of directors at the 36th annual meeting, chaired by Anusha Rahman, Minister of Information Technology.

Foley was appointed as the CEO of Telenor last year to replace Mr. Lars Christian Leul, as the company strived to grow its market share and was awarded the 3G internet license, in order to establish its internet position in Pakistan.

Having gained 30 years of marketing, operational and sales experience in both the Retail and Telecom sectors, Canadian citizen, Michael Foley has worked in over 11 countries across the world.

With his experience on board, Foley is expected to help the government achieve its aim of focusing on the development of the ICT sector and working on the MoIT holistic strategy to create a national incubation center for nurturing entrepreneurship in ICT.

As part of Telenor, Foley has helped the company achieve new heights of success, becoming the second largest operator in Pakistan and has recently partnered with Facebook for launch of the internet.org in the country.
