foodpanda’s Thoughtful Intiative ‘Homechefs’ Offers An Exciting Earning Opportunity!

As the global economy seems to be crashing amid the coronavirus crisis, several organizations are working on ways to stabilize the situation and making things work. Moreover, the COVID-19 outbreak has certainly affected many industries resulting in them shutting down completely or temporarily; leaving many people without jobs, especially daily wagers.

Speaking of which, foodpanda has been making highly appreciable efforts in order to support their heroes in many ways as earlier, their services were temporarily disabled. From providing ration bags and allowing them paid leaves in collaboration with TPL insurance, foodpanda made sure the halt didn’t affect their heroes.

Yet again, here they are again with another thoughtful initiative ‘homechef’ that they have been currently working on and it literally touched our hearts amid times like these…

To enable economic empowerment in the country, foodpanda is providing earning opportunities to every household. At times likes these, who wouldn’t want to earn safely by only cooking meals? Well, foodpanda is offering you the opportunity of becoming a foodpanda homechef! So, if you know how to prep up some yummy meals, now is the time to easily earn PKR 50,000+ every month!

Up till now, 1,000 foodpanda homechefs have registered from 18 different cities in Pakistan with 1 lac orders done to date. There’s more! On a daily basis, 3,000+ homecooked meals are delivered. This also makes foodpanda to be the ONLY food-delivery app in Pakistan that delivers freshly prepared Ghar ka khana to customers in less than 30 mins.

Why is this initiative so special for foodpanda?

When you want to make a difference with all your will and might, it eventually becomes very close to your heart. And so is the case with homechefs. Moreover, for more than 40% of them, foodpanda is their ONLY source of income.

To fight these tough times and to ensure every kitchen keeps running in Pakistan, foodpanda is looking for 100,000 homechefs & are inviting people to join their platform so they can start earning from their homes.

As a welcome package, especially during COVID-19, foodpanda is giving out awareness messages, a special hygiene video and a COVID-19 pack to all the homechefs.

Also, as a COVID-19 CSR activity, foodpanda has delivered 750+ fresh home-cooked meals prepared by MOM-heroes for the heroes on-ground (Frontline workers).

Women Empowerment Initiatives

foodpanda has funded a Rs. 2.4Mn project with Punjab Govt’s skill development Fund to train, onboard & empower 50 underprivileged women as foodpanda homechefs. “I had the honour of first meeting Irrfan as a co-star on the sets of ‘A Mighty Heart.’ For one of the scenes after learning his lines I saw him doing the scene again and again which left me puzzled. I asked him, Irrfan Sahab ye kya kar rahe hain aap? He replied- We’re both playing CID agents which means we’ll be showing our ID cards everywhere. I’m practising the scene, so I don’t look clumsy while showing the ID card. And that was the first time I realised what a fine actor he was.”

“Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un”….. “Verily we belong to God, and verily to Him do we return.”! . . . Disturbed and gutted!! A fine soul gone too soon. I had the honour of first meeting Irrfan as a co-star on the sets of ‘A Mighty Heart.’ For one of the scenes after learning his lines I saw him doing the scene again and again which left me puzzled. I asked him, Irrfan Sahab ye kya kar rahe hain aap? He replied- We’re both playing CID agents which means we’ll be showing our ID cards everywhere. I’m practicising the scene so I don’t look clumsy while showing the ID card. And that was the first time I realised what a fine actor he was. We’d become friends on the sets and used to hang out together after the shoot. I remember for another scene, he wanted to know a word in Urdu used commonly in Pakistan and he asked me. He was a great actor but didn’t shy away from learning and perfecting his art. One of the evenings, he shared an incident where him and his friend got the role of an extra actor in James Bond series “Octopussy” which was shot in India. But because they cycled to the set, they were late and the shoot was over. He told me since then he wanted to do a Hollywood movie. Our careers in Hollywood started together, but he proved his mettle and conquered the fort. In 2018 while attending IPPA in London. I found out that he was in London, though he wasn’t meeting anyone he agreed to meet me. We had a long chat about movies and world in general. He looked so positive. His last words were- “Adnan, I’ll be fine very soon and I’ll be back. InshAllah”! Who knew today, I would be penning this note. Condolences and strength to his family. Irrfan, you will be missed a lot. Rest in peace my friend.🙏

Don’t panic. It’s pretty simple.

Before we begin, let us tell you that this is not only for ‘losing’ weight, but you’ll eventually be adapting a healthier lifestyle.

The holy month of Ramadan can be challenging for some of us. But if we plan it accordingly and before it begins, things can pretty much be in place. We know that iftars can be very tempting but having a balanced iftar is super important. It’s the meal that replenishes energy, stores and helps sustain your fast the following day.

We’ve put together a few beneficial tips to help you find a healthier way to break your fast and make the rest of your Ramadan amazing!

1. Avoid overeating and have reasonable food portions

Eating plentiful and unhealthy quantities of food for Iftar can lead to an upset stomach and intestinal disorders that may worsen your existing health conditions.

2. Avoid foods high in fat, salt and sugar

Avoid meals that have too many unhealthy fats, salt and added sugar. When you’re cooking, opt for stewing, baking, roasting, steaming or even grilling. In short, avoid deep and shallow frying.

3. Walk every day for at least half an hour to one hour to burn the extra calories

Even if you’ve had a few extra calories for Iftar, you can burn them by going out on a short walk. Also, amid the lockdown, make sure you have a mask on and maintain a social distance.

4. Have your soup and salad first because they are low in calories and can fill you up quickly

So what if the weather is hot? Don’t you drink chai or coffee? You can find so many delicious and healthy soup recipes online. Why don’t you start with lentil soup? You’re going to love it!

5. Consume complex carbs aka good carbs

Your iftar meal should be filling yet healthy. If you want to consume carbohydrates, make sure you opt for complex carbs. These include whole-wheat chapatti/roti, brown rice, whole grain pasta, or potatoes. Moreover, they’re a great source of energy.

6. Chew your food slowly to avoid indigestion

You need to take it easy; your food isn’t running away. Lol. Don’t be in a rush. Yeah, being deprived of eating for an entire day, would lead to the rush but overloading on food may lead to indigestion and other gastric problems.

Stay healthy and have a happy Ramadan!

The Incredible Evolution Of Top Brands & Their Logos

logo evolution

Contributed by Hassan Wasti

Brands today are like any living organisms that grow and evolve with time. Like a living being, these world-renowned brands today have grown into a much more mature version of what they use to be, with time they have molded themselves according to the specifications and requirements of the passing era.

Have you ever stopped to wonder how some your favorite brands like Apple, Google, Nokia or Microsoft used to be 30 years back?

One of the defining factors of any brand is its logo it acts like a face of any brand and depicts what the brand is all about. Brands work tirelessly to make a logo that would best describe them and it is not an easy task that is why many logos that you see today are a product of years of hard work and brainstorming by top marketers in the industry today who decide which logo will suit their brand the best.

Below we have listed 6 renowned brand logos that have evolved with time and have gone through tremendous change.

1. Apple Inc.

One of the biggest electronic and technology brands in the world, Apple has made a name for itself with products like Macintosh, iPad and iPhone. All these products are very different in nature but have one thing in common the elegant half bitten apple designed with a gradient chrome silver look that shines proudly on these products.

However the journey for this logo was not an easy one, the first-ever logo was a complicated design that showed Isaac Newton under a tree with the inscription “Newton … A Mind Forever Voyaging Through Strange Seas of Thought … Alone.” The logo said a lot but turned out to be a little complex for the audience.

The next attempt to revamp the design was done in 1976 and the half bitten apple was introduced in a rainbow colored theme. This logo came in the limelight for several reasons, while some believed that the logo was a tribute to the mathematician Alan Turing who committed suicide by glazing an Apple in cyanide while many believed that the rainbow colored theme was homage to the homosexuality of Turing.

The next logo was a monochromic version of the current logo that did quite well and paved the way for the current design.

2. Nike

Nike got the best deal when it comes to designing logos, for just $35 Caroline Davidson designed the famous swoosh for the brand with the name Nike in the background. Nike today has dropped the name from the logo in order to make the logo less crowded and pictures only a smart swoosh on its products.

However one might be amazed that it took Nike a 7 years to notice that the text was overlapping the swoosh which crowded the whole image.

3. Google

The biggest search engine today Google came to existence in 1996 by two Stanford University computer science graduates who derived the name Google from Googol (meaning 1 followed by 100 zeros). The first ever logo was created on free graphic software GIMP, in the same year the an exclamation mark was added mimicking Yahoo and finally in 1999 Stanford’s Arts professor Ruth Kedar designed a new logo which is used by the company today.

4. Microsoft

The journey that began in 1975 for Microsoft is still going strong, like every other brand Microsoft original logo was a far different story than what it portrays today. The very first logo the result of the partnership between Bill Gates and Paul Allen, they named this partnership “Micro-Soft”. It also became the logo for the company however in the same year another logo came into the picture that had a distinctive O in it, that was referred to as “Bilbbet”, became the reason for its success for the next 12 years.

In 1987 the logo that you see today emerged and back then was termed as the Pac man-logo due to the noticeable cut in the ‘O’ this time. In 2008 Microsoft added the inscription ‘Your Potential, Our Passion’ in the design and have been using it since.

5. Nokia

The Finnish word ‘Nokia’ means a dark, furry creature, the current brand image of the company however reflects in no way to the origin of its name. The brand came into picture as a wood pulp mill which after the merger with Finnish Rubber Works sold various products from television to shoes.

Like the brand the logo has had a very different past from a fish portrayed in its design to a simple logo with inscription “Connecting People” Nokia has seen and done it all over the years.

6. Pepsi

Among all the Brands listed Pepsi has had the most eventful journey. It has gone through tremendous change since 1898 to 2014. From exotic fonts to its well known Blue and Red theme Pepsi has experiment with its logo since its inception.

Before 1950 Pepsi just played around the font in its logo but evolution hit the brand when it decided to feature its crown bottle cap as its logo in a blue and red theme with the name Pepsi Cola in scripted on it.

Another visible change took place in 1962 when Pepsi decided to drop ‘Cola’ from its logo and finally after 2003 the name ‘Pepsi’ was also dropped leaving behind only the Blue and Red globe in the logo.

In fact, the platforms have filled up with space alien jokes and memes!

Jazz Business & Mind Organization to launch a COVID-19 Mental Wellbeing helpline, ‘Zehni Sehat Helpline’

Lahore – 27 April 2020: Jazz Business, the business services division of Jazz, Ministers Delivery Unit (MDU), Punjab Health Department and Mind Organization, a non-profit  mental health care provider, have come together to launch a COVID-19 Mental Wellbeing helpline titled  “ Zehni Sehat Helpline’. Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Raashid launched the initiative at a ceremony held at MDU Office.

People who may face any mental health issue due to the ongoing countrywide lockdown to contain the spread of the virus can dial 0304-1110116 and talk to qualified psychiatrists/ Mental Health being specialists to receive support and advice. This helpline has been set up by Jazz Business and is free consultation for all callers.

“We are witnessing an enormous psychological impact of the Corona Pandemic on patients, their families as well as general population locked inside their homes. Given the scale of the mental stress across the social spectrum, developing platform for psychological support was need of the hour and I am grateful to partners for coming forward and putting in place this helpline,” said Punjab Health Minister Dr. Yasmin Raashid. “Mental health issues are usually neglected during such times, so we believe this is an important initiative for those who feel distressed. The team at the helpline will listen to you and provide expert counseling. I encourage you to call this helpline and receive the psychological support and care that you need.”

Pakistan, just like the rest of the world, is under pressure to control the spread of COVID-19 and has confined people to their homes under a strict lockdown. As more and more people are obliged to maintain social isolation, especially those with possible or proven coronavirus infection, experts, including the World Health Organization, agree that it is important to consider the effects of this pandemic on the mental health of people.

“It’s difficult for us all to understand this newly formed dynamic of life and the mental toll physical distancing from our family and friends is taking on us. Although these preventive measures suggested by the government and health authorities are important, so is mental wellbeing. This is why we are supporting Mind Organization and the Government of Punjab in providing free of cost mental health advice to millions of Pakistanis. We are here for you, to help you cope and adjust during these difficult times,” said Syed Ali Naseer, Chief Business Officer at Jazz.

During the past several weeks, the mobile operator has been using its resources and expertise to contribute to contribute to the efforts of the government, health authorities, medical institutes and the vulnerable in the society. For this purpose, the company recently announced a PKR 1.2 billion relief package in support of the country’s fight against COVID-19.

Mind Organization President Prof. Dr. Sa’ad Bashir Malik said, “It is globally acknowledged that stress can have serious affects on immunity of people. As we prepare to fight this battle, it is important that immunity stays at its best. This helpline will help us prepare for the psychological toll of the Pandemic. The Service will be available from Monday to Saturday (9 am- 5 pm).”

Uber Supports Healthcare Workers with the Launch of Uber Medics

Islamabad, April 27, 2020: Uber, the global ride-hailing platform that connects riders with drivers, has pledged free rides and deliveries in the Middle East, North Africa, and Pakistan (MENAP) region, specifically for frontline workers including the medical staff of hospitals and local NGOs, in an effort to move what matters during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uber Medics is designed to ensure that healthcare workers, who need to be mobile, have a reliable and efficient way of getting around. With this effort, the company hopes that this 24/7 dedicated service gives hospitals and their workers the flexibility to provide optimal healthcare.

In partnership with hospitals including Shifa International, Benazir Bhutto, and PIMS, Uber Medics will provide free rides for their medical workers and essential staff, who will easily be able to book a ride to their respective homes or healthcare locations with the tap of a button from the Uber app. This service has been designed to ensure the health and safety of both riders and drivers, and also extends to NGO programs which support the marginalized sector of the society.

Uber Pakistan’s GM, Saad Naveed Pall commented, “We understand the necessity of social-distancing in current times and encourage our riders to stay at home. It is, however, imperative to support the healthcare staff of our country, a majority of whom depend on ride-sharing as a primary means of transport. Our partner drivers are equally assisting our communities through this crisis and with the necessary alterations in our services, we intend to offer them some degree of relief, and added convenience to the riders.”

Uber has also taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety of its partner drivers and is reimbursing them for the appropriate protective gear required in their vehicles to help minimize the risk of transmission.

COVID-19 has so far affected more than 13,000 lives in Pakistan, with a significant hit to the global economy. In these circumstances, Uber seeks to venture out in innovative ways to bring economic opportunities for its partner drivers, and cater to the needs of current times. Uber Delivery, for instance, was recently launched in Lahore, Islamabad and now Karachi, enabling customers to request for essential items to be dropped off at their doorstep. Uber is committed to responsibly use its technology to support the public in these altering times and also work together with the local authorities along with other entities to soldier through this pandemic.

EMPG and OLX Group announce merger of MENA and South Asia businesses

Amsterdam and Dubai 28 April, 2020: Emerging Markets Property Group (EMPG), a leading property portal group in emerging markets, and OLX Group, Prosus’s global classifieds business, have announced their merger in Pakistan, Egypt, Lebanon and the UAE. The agreement includes a US $150 million investment round, led by OLX Group along with existing EMPG shareholders, which values EMPG at US $1 billion after the transaction. EMPG will use the new capital to develop a range of new services, creating a more seamless user experience, enhancing data transparency, and deepening market intelligence for both consumers and business users. Adidas to Focus on Digital Platforms as 70% Global Stores Remain Shut!

Footwear-giant Adidas has decided to take a different strategic approach to make up for its loss during the novel coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

Reportedly, almost 70% of Adidas stores are currently shut. The company said financial flexibility is key to its agenda and it would reallocate resources to “e-commerce, IT, and additional set-up.”

Adidas AG said Monday that net profit and sales sharply fell in its first quarter, and it warned that the second quarter should be even more severely hit.

Moreover, the company said net profit for the period was 31 million euros ($33.5 million), down by a whopping 95% from EUR632 million a year earlier.

At the moment, we are focused on managing the current challenges and doubling down on the recovery in China and the opportunities we see in e-com -CEO Kasper Rorsted

According to the brand, as consumers are in lockdown and are trying to ignore stepping outside unless necessary, it has become important for the company to shift its focus to digital platforms and focus on e-commerce.

The brand aims to reopen stores throughout May and June and in the US by mid-May, but it depends on many factors, including the containment of the virus.

“Adidas is well-positioned in the structural growth sporting goods industry, which benefits from secular shifts including an increasing focus on self-health and wellness and casualization trends,” analysts at RBC said in a note to clients on Monday.

Coronavirus created “meaningful dislocation, which could lead to a prolonged recovery profile, given Adidas’s wholesale distribution, if excess inventory is not aggressively addressed.”
