Source: Dawn.com

The Aurat Azadi March 2020 receives the go-ahead from Chief Justice Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Athar Minallah after he rejected the petition filed against Aurat Azadi March.

Source: ARY news

The petitioners sought restriction on the Aurat March that is scheduled to take place on March 8 across the country on World Women’s Day. They shared three ‘slogans’ that the women would chant at the event.

Justice Minallah said,

“The slogans are asking for the rights which Islam has given them [women], how can we interpret the meaning of these slogans ourselves when organisers have clarified”

He further adds while hearing the petition,

How can someone find anything wrong with that? The Tribal mindset had taken over society and that was a huge problem.

Justice Minallah also stated that if anything against the law would happen on March 8, legal action would be taken at the time and perpetrators would face consequences. He further remarked,

“It is important that you see the Aurat March in a positive light. On your own, how can you interpret these slogans?”

The petitioners had appealed to the court to regulate activities like the Aurat March citing their reasons as, “subject to law, norms, decency and public morality in the best interest of justice and to restrain unlawful, unconstitutional and un-Islamic activities forthwith”.

To this the Judge gave a befitting reply during the hearing, here’s what he had to say,

“In our society, various Islamic laws are being seriously violated. The court hopes that the petitioner also approaches it for the enforcement of all these Islamic laws,”

The chief justice asked people to move towards revolutionising the society instead of pulling it backwards.

Ministry of Human Rights Pakistan Celebrates International Women Day 2020

Ministry of Human Rights

The Ministry of Human Rights celebrated International Women’s Day on 4th March 2020 at Pakistan National Centre for Arts (PNCA), Islamabad.

The year 2020 marks several important milestones in the global movement towards female empowerment and gender equality worldwide.

It marks a five-year milestone towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals; the 20th anniversary of UN Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security; and the 10th anniversary of UN Women’s establishment.

The Government of Pakistan is committed to reducing the gender gap and ensuring ensure an end to gender discrimination, harassment, and violence against women at all levels.

Federal Secretary for Human Rights, Ms. Rabia Javeri Agha, gave opening remarks at the event. She outlined the achievements of the Ministry of Human Rights towards bridging the gender gap and moving towards gender equality, as well as outlined future steps and the way forward to accelerate sustainable development in Pakistan.

She emphasized that significant progress was being made in terms of reviewing and strengthening laws, rules, and regulations affecting the status of women in Pakistan.

“The Ministry of Human Rights, in coordination with relevant Federal and Provincial Departments, is undertaking a number of interventions proposed under the Action Plan for Human Rights to uplift the status of women. This includes a model policy on violence against women and girls, a policy for Home-Based Workers, as well as the establishment of a Helpline 1099 for legal advice, an Endowment Fund for free Legal Aid for poor victims, and a Women Protection Centre for free legal and psychological aid.”

The event featured a panel discussion on the theme of generation equality that was moderated by Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen Mazari. Generation Equality emphasizes women’s right for an equal future i.e. for equal pay, equal sharing of unpaid care and domestic work, an end to sexual harassment and violence against women and girls, health care services that respond to their needs, and their equal participation in political life and in decision making.

The panelists for the discussion included Zartaj Gul, Minister of State for Climate Change; Haya Zahid, Executive Director of the Legal Aid Society in Sindh; and Shehzad Roy, a Pakistani singer, social worker and humanitarian, currently serving as National Goodwill Ambassador for UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

The event also celebrated the achievements of female trailblazers from diverse professional fields and disciplines in Pakistan. This included female fighter pilot, Nadia Gul; visually impaired rock climber, painter and a social activist, Dr. Zarina Hassan; Pakistani cyclist Samar Khan, and Shiza Younas, a young community volunteer from Balochistan.

The event also featured a musical performance by the Biryani Brothers, a female duo consisting of Natasha Noorani and Zara Peracha, the founders of Lahore Music Meet, Pakistan’s largest music festival. Ms. Humera Azam Khan, Secretary of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) conducted the event as the Master of Ceremony.

Minister for Human Rights, Dr. Shireen Mazari, concluded the event with a closing statement. “International Women’s Day reminds us of the importance of supporting the participation of women and girls in all spheres of economic, social and political life. It also provides an opportunity to praise the achievements of women and to highlight their needs and concerns at the national, regional and global levels. Our government is committed to providing rights enshrined in our constitution. We have laws that were not implemented. Our women are not aware of their rights. We have to give rights to our women and create awareness as well.”

She further said I take actions on violations of Human rights rather than just tweeting or condemning them.

She also appreciated the UN Human Rights Chief who moved the Indian Supreme Court against citizen laws. She further added that as a human, Muslim and part of the international community, I will take notice wherever violations of human rights take place.

She said our priority is to protect human rights in Pakistan. Ministry is here to provide any kind of help to protect human rights. We have helpline 1099 to provide guidance and any legal help. We are taking two important initiatives Jail Reforms and Bill for journalists. We need to take along civil society men and women to protect women’s rights.

Money Heist Season 4: This Time, The Plot Will Make You Bite Your Nails!

Source/ Weedmp3

There are specific iconic and critically acclaimed shows that the masses has seen, with Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad being just two obvious examples.

However, there’s one incredible show that has garnered a lot of attention and that my friends is Money Heist, or La Casa de Papel as it’s referred to in Spain.

According to Netflix, Money Heist is the most famous non-English language show in Netflix history. And for those who happened to see the first three seasons, the trailer for the forthcoming fourth season just dropped.

If you recollect, the ending to season 3 ended on quite a cliffhanger with The Professor on the run and the reveal that Raquel is in fact very much alive.

The trailer for the season four begins with Nairobi on a stretcher and The Professor running – or should we say fleeing – through a forest?

“Our mastermind was losing his mind,” Tokyo says as the narrator. “And so were we.”

Although, the most startling shot of the trailer is of Berlín, who looks very much alive as he is instructing a man to “hold on.” Could this mean that he survived the shots at the end of season 2? Or is this just another flashback?

An additional question that we have is who is professor referring to when he says “Tokyo, he’s a killer”?

The big twist here is that Raquel is offered her freedom if she manages to cooperate with the cops.

Suffice it to say, the trailer seems incredible and it stands to reason that season 4 will be as fascinating and suspenseful as the first three seasons.

Timesaco – Chinese Ride Hailing Service to Officially Launch in Pakistan!

Timeasco

Some months back, news had surfaced that China will invest $600 million in Pakistan. The money was to be invested in different sectors, including transport.

In the midst of this, a Chinese tech giant, Timeasco, is set to launch wide-ranging operations in Karachi, including delivery and ride-hailing cab services. Furthermore, it was reported that Timeasco plans to invest $600mn in Pakistan.

The company will first set foot in Islamabad according to sources. It will expand Tatu Mobility operations in Karachi. Moreover, it plans to launch two services by month-end.

The company, however, claims that its services will be different from the already existing operators on a variety of fronts.

Tatu Mobility has already launched its online cab service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi with the name of Timesaco.

Tatu Mobility is going to start its operation in other cities as well. Tatu Mobility will start online cab service and digitisation of current transportation network in Pakistan. We are set to launch our service in Karachi this month. –Donald Li, founder and the CEO

Mr. Li shared that in the first phase of launching they plan on activating their online cab service and system. Later this year, they will introduce delivery as well.

When talking about opportunities in the Pakistani markets, Mr. Li said:

Tatu Mobility offers 97% share of earning to its drivers or captains of online cab service.

Other companies are offering 70pc to 75pc. We are facing competition but our focus is not just on the profit side; Tatu Mobility wants to restructure and digitize the current transport system.

In its initial phase, Tatu Mobility intends to invest $600 million in Pakistan and gradually investment will be increased based on the market.

But, experts still believe that besides facilitating private businesses in the area, a gap still needs to be filled with public sector transport service.

Earlier last year, PM Khan had attended the MoU signing ceremony between Double-star China, Daewoo Pakistan and the MSD Tire and Rubber Company.

This was also a $600m investment joint-venture project.

Through this joint venture, the company will aim to produce five to six million pieces every year, 2-3m of which will be for trucks and buses and 3-4m for passenger cars.

We will start with the trucks and buses segment because nobody is producing these in Pakistan and there is a growing demand. -Dr Xu Peng, Managing Director of InvestTarget

He added:

There is no local truck tire manufacture, and for passenger tires, we will aim for higher-end, radial tires which are mostly imported into Pakistan.

When asked about how they intend to develop a presence domestically, he told Dawn:

Daewoo is a very influential brand and working with them will be a good signal to the market that we are bringing a reputable brand. Last year, Doublestar (a partner in the consortium) acquired Kumho, the Korean company.

We are confident we will be able to develop the local market, curbing smuggling will be important and the government has to give us the protection we need.

While talking further about the economy, the premier told the public that the World Bank has improved the ease of conducting business placing it on the 28th points.

He took the moment to tell the companies how happy he was that China in bringing investment in different sectors in Pakistan.

Furthermore, while talking about Pakistan’s economy, he added that the situation has become stable and back in control. He further said that this can be seen with a visible effect in the stock markets.

The PM took the moment to share that world institutions have acknowledged that Pakistan is headed in the right direction.

These include the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

Your words show your thinking, your tone shows your shallowness and the loudest of your scream shows your “Namardangi” Shame on you #KhalilurRehmanQamar and thank you for showing your real face. First talking rubbish about Mahmood Aslam and Saba ji. Calling them unprofessional and jhoota. But no one has the courage to ask him about his jhoots and lies. He called them beyimaan.. selling your own script with different names isn’t it beyimaani? Is it a joke? But no one in the ferternity has ever spoke about it though they discuss it with each other. And laugh on it. But that’s sad because by doing this you are doing beyimaani with the entire writer community. And now this obnoxious behaviour. Holding an opinion is not at all an issue. But this tone and batameezi really showed the true face. No one and I say no one has the right to use such language with anyone. Be it a man or a woman. It’s not about the slogan or any ideology. It’s about the way he spoke. What disgrace. #Khalilurrehmanqamar #disgrace ‪jab takabur had sey barh jata hai tu insaan firoan ban jata hai ‬

4 Chocolate Brands That Disappeared From Markets

Chocolate

All of us still remember the snacks we used to eat in our childhoods, do we not? And when we start reminiscing about those times, it takes us down a memory-filled road. These snacks would range from chocolates to bubble-your-name. But how many of you remember those chocolate brands that we once loved but don’t see anymore?

We have compiled a list of those chocolate brands so you can revive your memory. Remember, reminisce, and relive those joyful moments.

1. BP Spacer

When talking about the oldies, not mentioning BP Spacer would be an actual crime. It was these long bars of chocolate that you’d fold in your mouth. Don’t tell me you didn’t do it. Gone in just one bite, but they were sure tasty. Now, those people who used to buy whole boxes are desperate for only one. If someone amongst you gets a hold of it, send it to us as well. We are as desperate as you for them.

2. Jubilee

Another chocolate that we all remember is Jubilee Chocolate. After all, who can forget that miracles, caramel wrapped inside chocolatey heaven? When we say we ascended whenever eating it, we meant it. Ah, the good old times. Now that we recall it, the golden packaging must be too much in the face. But did that stop us? It’s on this list, what do you think?

3. Chowki

Why chock? Because they are liquid. I never understood this phenomenon, but it sure was tasty. And the animated advertisements were funny as well.

4. Bunty

You know how we used to love vigilante movies, still do. Well, there is one thing common in almost all of them. The masks. This bunty right here had a packaging that tapped into just that. We would wear it and act out the vigilante scenes. And the colorful bounties made those plays all the more colorful.

I mean there must be a reason why these brand stops producing. But they indeed were great chocolates. Or maybe our memory of them was great and not the products? And what we are reminiscing is not how the product tasted but the life events that we experienced when we ate these chocolates. But we will never know until we get to taste them again.

LRBT runs a network of 77 facilities (19 hospitals and 58 Primary eye centres) which covers around 70% of Pakistan’s poor population.

Most of LRBT’s facilities are located in small towns, villages and in the urban slums. LRBT addresses every aspect of visual impairment with state of the art technology including cataract, vitreo retina, glaucoma, cornea transplant and diabetic retinopathy.

LRBT Tertiary Teaching Eye Hospital, Korangi is the largest eye hospital of Pakistan has recently reached another milestone of treating 1648 patients in a single day where in past the record was of 1578 patients on 4th May 2019.

The average being 1050 patients a day at this hospital and over 10,600 patients daily average collectively at all LRBT facilities. These figures show how eye diseases are spreading at an alarming pace in the country and since LRBT is the single entity treating the highest number of patients, it brings severe burden on the charity to raise sufficient funding for this purpose.

LRBT has, since its inception so far treated over 44 million patients making it Pakistan’s largest NGO.

This year LRBT needs to raise over 1.5 billion rupees to meet the expenses for the treatment of millions of underprivileged eye patients expected to visit the facilities.

This generous support can be extended through Zakat or donation.

GSMA Study Finds Over Half of Women in Low- and Middle-Income Countries Now Access Mobile Internet

Source: adalidda

Islamabad – 5th March, 2020: A new GSMA study launched today shows that despite progress, the gender gap in mobile internet usage remains substantial, with over 300 million fewer women than men accessing the internet from a mobile device in low- and middle-income countries.

Affordability remains the critical barrier to mobile ownership, while lower awareness, as well as a lack of literacy and digital skills, are vital factors preventing women’s mobile internet use. The industry is renewing its commitment to reaching women with digital and financial services to address the persistent mobile gender gap.

The study finds that the mobile internet gender gap has narrowed and 54% of women in low- and middle-income countries now use mobile internet, up from 44% in 2017. However, the underlying gender gap in mobile ownership remains largely unchanged and 165 million fewer women than men own a mobile.

Source: Geomarketing

The research found that mobile offers essential benefits to users. The majority of male and female mobile owners reported that mobile ownership makes them feel safer, better informed and supports them in their day-to-day lives.

“We are seeing important progress in driving equal internet access for women, but the pace of progress still remains slow. We urge business and government communities to continue prioritizing efforts to drive more equal access to mobile technology,” said Mats Granryd, Director General, GSMA. “Ensuring digital and financial inclusion for women is critically important, as we know that when women thrive, societies, businesses and economies thrive.”

This year marks two significant anniversaries. It’s been 25 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and 10 years since the launch of the GSMA Connected Women programme. Today, the GSMA announced the first wave of operators to make or renew their Connected Women Commitment through to 2023.

Source: Africa Rising

The operators are Graeme phone Ltd. (Bangladesh), Mobi tel (Pvt) Limited – Sri Lanka, Mobile Money Limited (subsidiary of MTN Ghana), Ooredoo Maldives, Orange Finances Mobiles Sénégal (OFMS), Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (JIO) India, Robi Axiata Limited (Bangladesh), Safaricom PLC, Turkcell Turkey and Vodacom Congo (RDC) SA Democratic Republic of Congo.

The GSMA introduced the Connected Women Commitment Initiative in 2016 to catalyze action to close the mobile gender gap. Over this time, 39 mobile operators across Africa, Asia and Latin America have made formal commitments to reduce the gender gap in their mobile money or mobile internet customer base by 2020. These operators have already reached more than 35 million additional women with mobile internet or mobile money services, and are driving increased digital and financial inclusion for women.

“We applaud all operators who are partnering with us on this critical initiative and look forward to working together to accelerate digital and financial inclusion for women,” said Granryd.

News channels are given a span of 7-10 seconds lag for producers to avoid/beep offensive comments from airing.

SAMAA Digital spoke to an official at the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority to understand how this situation will be handled.

The first step is to send the licencee a show-cause notice,” the official said. “Once this is done, we will call them in for a personal hearing then make recommendations.”

“Many programmes have been suspended because of poor editorial judgment,” the official said. “All TV channels are supposed to have a time delay mechanism as this gives them a cushion to edit out/omit objectionable material.” – the PEMRA official said.
