TLP Chief Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi Passes Away At 55?

The news came on Thursday that Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Allama Khadim Hussain Rizvi has passed away. Family sources confirmed that he had been suffering from fever for the past few days. He complained about it as he led a protest at the Faizabad Interchange a few days ago.

On Thursday, he was brought to Sheikh Zayed Hospital, where sources have said that he was dead on arrival.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was informed of his passing, and so he presented condolences to the TLP leader’s family. He wrote in his tweet:

On the passing of Maulana Khadim Hussain Rizvi, my condolences go to his family. Inna lillahi Wa Inna ilayhi raji’un.

Sometime later, there were separate instances of TLP members claiming that Khadim Hussain Rizvi was still alive. Twitter was raging on for quite a bit of time.

 

Soon after, however, senior TLP leader Syed Inayat ul Haq Shah released a video to shut down the ongoing rumors. He said that Khadim Hussain’s son was under the assumption that he saw his father’s hand move. That little piece of information stretched into rumors of him breathing again. He confirmed that Khadim Hussain Rizvi has indeed passed away.

Lahore – November 18, 2020: As a part of their global #MoveWithSafety campaign, Uber Pakistan’s General Manager, Saad Naveed Pall endorses rider and driver safety, with the protective shields that have been installed in Uber cars and auto-rickshaws in Pakistan designed to add protection against Covid-19.

This initiative is a part of Uber’s $50 million global commitment towards rider and driver safety, which also includes providing hygiene kits with masks, sanitizers, and anti-bacterial wipes to drivers, along with the installation of car separators in highly active Uber vehicles.

These partitions are designed to minimize the airflow between passengers and drivers, preventing air-borne water droplets from travelling. Stretchable Skin Sensors – A Step Closer To Virtual Reality

Have you ever heard of the film ‘Minority Report’? That science fiction film starring Tom Cruise? The technology employed in that film showed an extremely advanced future. It showed that, based on the actions and habits of people, how likely they were to commit a crime. Similarly, Equilibrium starring Keanu Reeves showed a future where emotion was banned. It was illegal to laugh or smile!

The underlying point here is that, as advanced as those films were showing, the world is progressing at a steady rate. Self-driving technology is being tested more and more everyday. Whether it is Tesla or Google, these cars are going to become the new normal one day. So what if there was technology, related to virtual reality, which was more mobile? There has been a recent development by students of the University of Cornell. They have introduced a new Stretchable Skin Sensor which is sure to baffle and blow your mind!

Virtual Reality:

Virtual Reality is one of the most progressing fields of today. VR is the initials it is often known by. You wear a headset and play games? That is Virtual Reality. It has become so available to the public now that it’s accessible through Smartphones. You wear a headset, slide your phone into it, and dive into the world of VR. Half-Life ‘Alyx’ is one of the most immersive and well-made VR games of all time!

With the invention by these students, VR has taken yet another step forward. They have created a fiber optic sensor that takes a combination of low-cost LEDs and dyes. This, in turn, resulted in a stretchable ‘skin’ of sorts that can detect different kinds of pressures, tensions, and weights.

Stretchable Sensors:

The sensors were demonstrated in a prototype glove. Each finger of the glove has a pair of cores. One core is transparent, and the other is filled with absorbing dyes at multiple locations. These dye locations are hooked up to the LEDs.

Now imagine you’re putting a form of strain or pressure on the Stretchable Skin Sensor. It will register the motion and light up the appropriate LEDs. The dyes serve as ‘Spatial Encoders’. This means that they are responsible for specific parts of the skin, transferring information to the right LED. The device is 3D printed and is also fitted with bluetooth, to provide connectivity to any software. The software will be used to track and monitor movements.

Moving Forward:

So, where do we go from here? The students state that this technology can be implemented on the medical side too. If a person has pain in their joints or cannot move them a lot, the sensor can pinpoint precisely where the issue lies.

Additionally, there is quite a lot of industrial use for this device too. They can be used to calculate the weight and tension of any device that is lifted by hand. Combine all of this with the H.U.L.C mecha suit, and you have a full-fledged 22nd-century tech piece! Technically, the tool uses vision to operate, so virtual reality plays a huge part in this.

New Zealand Allows Women Police Officers To Wear Hijab!

And we know-how, in the West, the intolerance for Islam leads to discrimination towards hijabi women the most. So when New Zealand takes a step towards acceptance of hijab, it comes as positive news.

New Zealand announced on Wednesday that female officers would wear hijab on their official uniform should they choose to. One of their spokespeople said that by allowing hijab, they are trying to make the police force more inclusive so that more Muslim women will opt to work for the police. An inclusive Police department, they say, will be reflective of New Zealand’s diverse community.

The recruit, constable Zeena Ali will be New Zealand’s first female police offer to wear a hijab on her uniform. New Zealand has adopted in 2020 what the UK did 14 years ago. In the United Kingdom, London’s Metropolitan Police approved hijab in 2006 while Scotland brought in hijab in 2016. And in 2004, Maha Sukkar was the first female police officer to wear hijab in Australia.

Zeena Ali’s Story

A publication in the UK covered the story of Zeena Ali. According to that, the constable requested for the first time in 2018, when the police staff was visiting secondary schools. Born in Fiji, Zeena came to New Zealand in her early years. In an interview, she mentioned that her desire to join the police force originated after a terror attack on Christchurch mosque.

In a conversation, she told a publication that:

“I realized more Muslim women were needed in the police, to go and support people. It feels great to go out and show the New Zealand Police hijab as part of my uniform. I think that seeing it, more Muslim women will want to join as well.”

With a more accepting police force, more hijabi women will join. And the Muslim female population will be more comfortable seeing one of their own in the police force; it will raise the level of trust in the police.

In line with Faysal Islami’s values of promoting Inclusiveness for All & Care for those with mental disabilities, and in association with the organizers Sports in Pakistan, the Bank created a separate segment during the National Cycling Championships event where specially-abled cyclists of Special Olympics Pakistan could participate.

To display their support, a number of Faysal Bank employees attended the event in great numbers. There will be a list of places you are interested in, and you want to visit at a moment’s notice. But remember, your partner will also have a list. So put the two lists together, and you will be able to figure out the common elements. Start from them. Of course, later on, as you begin to develop a more robust understanding with each other, you can take him/her to the destinations you want to visit and vice versa.

Here is a sub-tip. If you can’t find a specific destination country in your list, choose one of them from either your or your partner’s list and start delving further into it. So, for instance, look up cities and attraction points within that country. If you find one country with a city that attracts your partner and another city that attracts you, that country is it.

Every once in a while, one couple becomes goals. And people want to see them together on-screen ad off-screen together. And when they break up, it hurts the fans the most. Last year, that couple was Alizeh Shah and Noaman Sami. Their Instagram photos made everyone swoon with love. The chemistry was always on point, even in a picture. So one can imagine the excitement when they decided to be in a drama together.

The image compared two aspects; one was a cactus with a balloon whose spikes poked on the balloon, while the other was where the cactus grew flowers on its tips. And it read:

Wait, is she saying the relationship with Noaman was toxic? If she is, then it’s good that they parted ways. FDA Approves COVID-19 Diagnostic Kit For Self-Testing At Home

The first self-testing COVID-19 test kit was authorised in the US yesterday. Is it going to be a step in the right direction?

The Latest News

Yesterday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the first COVID-19 diagnostic test for self-testing from the comfort of the home. It has been promised to provide rapid results too. Now the result of the test can be found within half an hour as opposed to days before.

The kit has been named the ‘Lucira COVID-19 All-In-One Test Kit’. It is a molecular (real-time loop-mediated amplification reaction) single-use test that is designed to detect the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19.

How Is This A Development?

COVID-19 diagnostic tests were authorized for at-home collection previously. There are now drive-throughs at several hospitals too that take the test without having the person come inside the hospital. However, this is the first that can be fully self-administered and provide results at home.

The Lucira COVID-19 All-In-One Test Kit test has been authorized for home use with self-collected nasal swab samples. It is suitable for individuals age 14 and older who are suspected of COVID-19 by their health care provider. The test is currently, however, only authorized for prescription use. In other words, you can not purchase it from your regular pharmacy, you need your doctor’s prescription.

How Does The Kit Work? 

The swab is pushed into the nose the usual way. The test then works by swirling the self-collected sample swab in a vial that is placed in the test unit which comes in the kit. In 30 minutes approximately, the results can be read directly from the test unit’s light-up display. It shows whether a person is positive or negative for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

How Does One Proceed?

Positive results indicate the presence of SARS-CoV-2 which means the person is carrying the coronavirus germ. Individuals with positive results than naturally have to self-isolate and seek additional care from their health care provider. On the other hand, individuals who test negative and experience COVID-like symptoms follow up with their health care provider. This is also an essential step as negative results do not preclude an individual from SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Why Are Tests Important?

Diagnostic testing remains one of the best strategies in response to COVID-19. By making self-administered kits available to all the transmission can be controlled to a great extent.

Grab a random Pakistani and ask him/her about the best food; they will most definitely say roadside food. No matter how many famous outlets open up, roadside food remains stuck in our minds.

This category of making roadside food, however, remains dominated by men for some reason. Considering women are supposed to handle the kitchen, men, cooking on the streets, doesn’t go with that belief. That said, since the public sphere has become very dangerous for women, our patriarchal society limits the movement for women on the streets.

This news where a Karachi woman runs her food stall without help from men in either cooking or any other reason comes as an interesting one.

In a Facebook group for Karachi, a lady posted about her encounter with this Karachi woman. Utterly impressed, she wanted people to support her as much as they could:

“A lady is running her own business with passion and motivation. She made everything herself… Zinger burger, limca, anday walla burger… Etc etc.
Javed Nihari rd… Support her”

So we know what is available at her stall. She has the Zinger burger, Limca, Anday wala burger (our signature roadside food), among other things because, for one, we can see the range of drinks she can provide.

Why she needs our respect and support?

Moreover, while what the woman is doing deserves praise, we also need to acknowledge the strength it took for her to come out and work. It is not like women cannot work; many Karachi women do work, mostly in offices. So working on the streets knowing that it could be dangerous and continuously facing men who, without a doubt, would be eyeing her as they walk past, is something that demands respect.

So while we do need to order from big brand outlets because we have seen in the recent lockdown that if they do not work well, it is the people on the ground level who suffer, we also need to support such respectable and brave people who are trying to make an earning for themselves and their family, because who knows what led to her, instead of the men in her house, leaving her household in this patriarchal society.
