Women Can Now Perform Hajj Without ‘Mehram’

Source: SaudiaNews

Pakistan’s religious body, the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), has recently given its approval for women to perform Hajj without a mehram under certain conditions. This significant decision aims to provide more opportunities for women to fulfill their religious obligations and participate in the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca.

CII’s response

According to the CII’s response to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Jafri, Maliki, and Shafii schools of thought within Sharia law permit women to undertake Hajj without a mehram. This means that women can now embark on this spiritual journey if their parents or husband grant them permission and they do not anticipate any danger or wrongdoing during their travel.

Saudi Arabia says women can now perform Umrah, Hajj without male guardian
SOurce: SaudiNews

However, it is worth noting that according to the Hanafi and Hanbali fiqh, a woman traditionally requires a mehram to perform Hajj. Nevertheless, this recent ruling by the CII provides an alternative perspective that widens the opportunities for women who may not have access to a mehram.

Why was this proposal drafted?

In order to ensure the safety and well-being of women traveling without a mehram, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has proposed a careful evaluation of the group they plan to travel with. This vetting process aims to ascertain the trustworthiness and integrity of the fellow pilgrims. It is crucial to prioritize the security and comfort of women undertaking this religious journey, and the ministry’s approach addresses this concern effectively.

It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia, the host country for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, also made a significant announcement last year. The Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, declared that women from all over the world can now perform Hajj and Umrah without a mehram or a male guardian. This decision marks a departure from the longstanding rule requiring a mehram for female pilgrims.

According to experts, scholars from the Maliki and Shafi’i schools of thought support the notion that women can perform Hajj or Umrah accompanied by trustworthy women or as part of a secure group. This perspective is in line with the recent rulings in Pakistan and provides further validation for women seeking to undertake the pilgrimage without a mehram.

Supporting the cause

Supporters of this decision argue that it brings convenience and relief to many women who face social challenges or financial constraints in finding a mehram. By removing this requirement, more women can now embark on this spiritual journey and experience the profound significance of Hajj or Umrah.

Pakistan’s Council of Islamic Ideology has granted permission for women to perform Hajj without a mehram under specific conditions. This decision aligns with the perspectives of various schools of thought within Sharia law and reflects a broader trend in the Islamic world. By ensuring appropriate security measures and allowing women to participate in Hajj or Umrah without a mehram, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have taken progressive steps to empower women and facilitate their religious observance. This development opens doors for women to engage in this significant aspect of their faith, fostering inclusivity and equality within the Muslim community.

Samsung Developing Its Own AI Service – How Safe Will It Be?

Source: Samsung

Samsung Electronics is set to introduce a customized artificial intelligence (AI) service for knowledge search, translation, and summarization. The move comes as concerns about potential information leaks grow due to the use of generative AI models like ChatGPT. Samsung aims to develop its own large language model (LLM) that surpasses the capabilities of GPT-3.5.

The Device Solutions (DS) Division

The Device Solutions (DS) division, which oversees Samsung’s semiconductor business, plans to launch its LLM later this year. In a recent employee lecture, Kyung Kye-hyun, the head of Samsung Electronics’ DS division, emphasized the potential of generative AI to bring innovation to their work. The company is currently collaborating with domestic specialized firms to develop customized AI solutions.

Samsung Will Develop Its Own AI To Prevent Employees From Using ChatGPT - Tech News Space
Source: Samsung

The Objectives of the Customized AI Service

Samsung Electronics’ DS division aims to roll out basic AI services in December, followed by professional search services incorporating company knowledge in February of the following year. These services will support various aspects of employees’ work, including:

  • Automated responses for purchasing and expenses
  • Specialized knowledge search
  • Summarization of manufacturing and process data
  • Translation
  • Document creation
  • Meeting transcription and summarization
  • Market and company analysis
  • Code generation and review
  • Voice of the customer (VOC) response

The objective of implementing this customized AI is to enhance work efficiency and productivity. Samsung believes that by utilizing AI, they can transform their organizational culture, bolster development competitiveness, and collaborate with customers worldwide to shape a brighter future.

The Decision to Develop Their Own AI Tools

The decision to develop their own AI tools comes in response to the increasing demand for generative AI applications like ChatGPT, particularly in tasks such as translation and document summarization. However, concerns have emerged regarding the security risks associated with the use of generative AI, such as the potential leakage of confidential information. To address these concerns, Samsung plans to introduce customized AI services internally, thereby ensuring tighter control over data privacy.

Mitigating the Risks Associated with Generative AI

To mitigate the risks associated with generative AI, the DS division has already implemented measures like character limitations when using ChatGPT. Incidents of misuse, such as the uploading of internal mail content and inputting of internal source code, prompted these restrictions, which were introduced in March.

In a similar vein, the Device Experience (DX) division, responsible for home appliances and smartphones, has completely banned the use of generative AI through internal PCs since May. Instead, the DX division has adopted a policy to develop its own AI tools for translation, document summarization, and software development assistance. Although specific development timelines and implementation schedules have not been finalized, Samsung is committed to ensuring the secure and efficient use of AI across its various divisions.

By developing their own AI solutions, Samsung Electronics aims to leverage the benefits of generative AI while mitigating security risks. This approach allows them to tailor the technology to their specific needs and reinforces their commitment to maintaining data privacy and confidentiality. With these advancements, Samsung is poised to streamline work processes, enhance productivity, and drive innovation within the company.

Ushna Shah’s New Tweet Sparks Controversy

Ushna Shah's New Tweet Sparks Controversy

Is Ushna Shah’s new name is “controversy”? That’s because she just never seems to stay with them. For some odd reason, she has always been the center of many controversies be it about her wedding, husband, dress, honeymoon, or literally anything at all. It’s almost as if she attracts everything bad. This time it was one of her tweets that landed her in deep waters. Here have a look at the tweet first.

She jokes about how Cyclone Biparjoy is just about to hit Karachi in the next few hours and just at the same time, her flight is also scheduled. She calls out to her husband and jokingly tells him to remarry another woman if she dies on the flight, however, she also tells him that she knows that the other woman will never be as amazing as her. Talk about confidence, am I right?

Unfortunately, many fans and people found this insensitive since Ushna joked about a very serious topic that may also be triggering for some people. Flight danger and crashes are a very real thing and apparently, many people do not find jokes about it funny even if it comes under the category of dark humor. One person replied to the tweet saying this.

Another said this.

Was it really that big of a problem? Could his tweet just have been a text for her husband Hamza? Or could people on the Internet be taking things just way too seriously nowadays? You decide. And let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Is There A Worst Day Of The Week For Heart Attacks?

Doctors have analyzed Data from 10,528 patients—7,112 in the Republic of Ireland and 3,416 in Northern Ireland at the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland to study the chances of heart attacks.

According to a study, serious heart attacks are more likely to occur on Mondays than any other day with 13% higher than anticipated risk of heart attacks.

Mondays & Heart Attacks

The data was collected from the patients with the most severe heart attack, an ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), which occurs when a major coronary artery is completely blocked. The patients required hospitalization between 2013 and 2018.

The researchers discovered a rise in STEMI heart attacks at the beginning of the workweek, with rates on Monday being the greatest.

“We’ve found a strong statistical correlation between the start of the working week and the incidence of STEMI,” says cardiologist Jack Laffan from the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

“This has been described before but remains a curiosity.”

Important risk factors for heart attacks, such as blood pressure, exhibit diurnal rhythms. It has also been demonstrated that disruptions to this sleep-wake cycle can also affect cardiovascular health.

“This study adds to evidence around the timing of particularly serious heart attacks, but we now need to unpick what it is about certain days of the week that makes them more likely,” says Nilesh Samani, medical director at the British Heart Foundation.

“Doing so could help doctors better understand this deadly condition so we can save more lives in the future.”

It’s not necessary to take extra precautions for your heart health on a Monday and then disregard it for the next six days, but it is important to keep in mind any additional stresses your body may be experiencing at the beginning of the week.

Is Apple Increasing The Prices Of Its Phones?

Is Apple Increasing The Prices Of Its Phones?
Source: Apple

Apple enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts, alike, are eagerly anticipating the release of the 2023 iPhone series. However, there is a twist that may concern potential buyers: Wall Street analyst Dan Ives predicts that Apple might increase the prices of the Pro models by up to $200.

Ives has a track record of accurate predictions regarding Apple’s pricing strategy. Last year, he correctly predicted a price hike for the iPhone 14 series. During a session with CNBC, Ives suggested that Apple may follow a similar strategy with the iPhone 15 series. Although he did not provide specific details about individual model prices, he mentioned that the company plans to raise the average selling prices (ASPs) of iPhones in the US.

Price Hike Likely to Affect Pro Models

iPhone 14 prices: Apple is 'considering' a $100 price increase for four 2022 phones, leak claims - EconoTimes
Source: EconoTimes

It is anticipated that the price hike will primarily affect the Pro models, potentially resulting in a $200 increase for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. As a point of reference, the current iPhone 14 series starts at $799 for the base model of the iPhone 14, $899 for the iPhone 14 Plus, $999 for the iPhone 14 Pro, and $1,099 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max. If the expected price hike comes to fruition, the iPhone 15 Pro may have a starting price of around $1,199, while the Pro Max model could be priced at approximately $1,299.

Price Increase Could Boost Apple’s Valuation

Experts suggests that this price increase is part of Apple’s strategy to boost its valuation. The tech giant aims to increase its current valuation of $2.85 trillion to an estimated $3.5 trillion to $4 trillion within the next 18 to 24 months. This valuation expansion aligns with Apple’s vision of capitalizing on the potential market opportunity presented by the approximately 250 million iPhone users who have not upgraded their devices in the past four years.

According to predictions, Apple may ship between 235 million and 240 million units of the iPhone 15 in 2023. This estimate highlights the immense popularity and demand that Apple’s flagship smartphones continue to enjoy.

Consumers and Fans to Watch Pricing Strategy Closely

As Apple prepares to unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 15 series, consumers and fans will be closely watching to see how the pricing strategy unfolds. Hamza Amin Hits Back At A Troll For Criticizing His Wife Ushna Shah

We all know how controversial Ushna Shah has become ever since she decided to get married. Whether she wanted to or not and whether she likes it or not, she never seems to be able to get out of the criticizing light of the public. After her dress, her wedding turned into a live broadcast session and herself being accused of being a golddigger. Now, it’s something of the same sort that she’s being hated for. But who cares about all that when you have a husband as supportive as Hamza Amin?

This video soon went viral for Ushna showing off her travel diary moments with her husband. The couple were driving around on the streets of Vienna, Austria, enjoying their married life as much as they can. The post went viral and some even commented on the way Hamza was driving. Some commented on how cute they were looking and well, and some commented on Ushna’s clothing.

Now, it’s nothing new for fans to comment on clothing and the way the actors and actresses look but it feels nice when they don’t have to deal with it alone and their partner defends and supports them just like Hamza did for Ushna.

Hamza, sarcastically replied to a comment that said: “She is wearing shorts.” So apparently, wearing shorts is a bad thing now? Haven’t other women worn shorts before? Is it really that surprising? Let’s see what other people had to say to that.

The user, who had originally commented, replied again making it a matter of religion. Have a look.

Pak Suzuki Implements Further Shutdown Measures

In the midst of a year-long series of production shutdown announcements by car manufacturers in the country, the Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company is also facing severe challenges due to the prevailing economic meltdown and import restrictions, resulting in sales and profits going into deficit.

As of late, Pak Suzuki has also declared that their motorcycle assembly plant will remain closed from June 12 to June 16 due to a complete lack of inventory. Previously, the company had suspended motorcycle production from May 23 to June 10.

Reason For Shutdown

The primary reason behind these measures is the difficulty in importing necessary parts and raw materials for vehicle manufacturing. The major problem lies in the mandatory approval process imposed by the State Bank of Pakistan for imports, causing delays and disrupting the automobile companies’ supply chains. While obtaining prior approval may not seem like a major hurdle in theory, delays in approval have led to shortages of parts and raw materials which is now a common occurrence in various government departments. These delays have prevented companies from maintaining adequate inventory levels for production.

Furthermore, Pak Suzuki has also witnessed a significant decline in car sales compared to the same period last year which could be because of the recent ongoing inflation. The people do not have money to spend and that is disturbing the supply and demand chain. According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturer Association (PAMA), the company experienced a staggering 76% drop, selling only 2,958 units last month compared to 12,212 units in the corresponding period last year.

In terms of specific models, the sales figures for Pak Suzuki include 1,902 units of Alto, 282 units of Suzuki Cultus, 148 units of Suzuki Wagon R, 332 units of Suzuki Swift, 157 units of Suzuki Bolan, and 137 units of Suzuki Ravi.

Alarming Surge In Malnutrition Cases Sweeps Pakistan

Malnutrition is still a major problem in Pakistan, having disastrous effects on the health and development of the country. Malnutrition needs to be addressed in order for the nation to advance and develop overall as well as for the personal health of its individuals. According to Aga Khan University’s health economics research, the annual financial loss resulting from micronutrient deficiencies is almost $3 billion, or 1.33% of GDP. Micronutrient deficiencies (in children aged 6 to 23 months) are predicted to have a direct medical cost of US$19 million.

While these numbers highlight the financial toll that hunger takes on in Pakistan, the World Bank estimates that more than 40% of children under the age of five there are stunted, a condition that impairs growth and development. In addition, micronutrient deficiencies, such as those in iron, iodine, and vitamin A, are common.

Iron deficiency can result in anemia, problems with growth and development, cognitive and behavioral challenges, a weakened immune system, lethargy, and other side effects that make it difficult for kids to live healthy, productive lives.

The current malnutrition epidemic in Pakistan is caused by a number of factors, some of which can be linked to poverty, a lack of access to nutritious food, and a weak healthcare system. Malnutrition is a problem in Pakistan due to a lack of knowledge about good nutrition as well as sociocultural practices such as early marriage, gender inequity, and insufficient breastfeeding.

This problem demands a multifaceted strategy to be solved. Malnutrition can be decreased in a nation by strengthening healthcare systems, encouraging exclusive breastfeeding, boosting the use of fortified products, ensuring the safety of agriculture and food, increasing nutrition education, encouraging behavior change, lowering poverty, and enabling public-private partnerships that actively work on all of these fronts. The remedy also needs to be geared towards various age groups, particularly among children, and it might come in the form of nutrition products that have been fortified.

A challenge as colossal as this requires multiple stakeholders that work on health, food, agriculture, education, and social welfare to join hands, come together, and redirect their energies toward reducing malnutrition together.
