Lahore – February 13,2024: In a comprehensive survey, ACCA’s Global Talent Trends 2024 highlights a critical diversity and inclusion culture, AI’s role in the profession, and mental health concerns in the workplace, with an in-depth look at South Asia’s unique market dynamics.

This wake-up call for employers comes in the biggest global talent survey across the accountancy profession, ACCA’s (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) latest annual Global Talent Trends survey 2024 provides a unique and vital view of how people feel about their life at work.

Almost 10,000 professional accountants from 157 countries were asked about the concerns they held around work in the future as well as aspirations for their careers. The survey also assessed key workplace issues such as hybrid working, diversity, mobility and mental health and the cost-of-living crisis.

According to the survey, a significant 73% of professionals believe that a robust diversity and inclusion culture is crucial in choosing an employer, signalling an urgent call for organisations to broaden their diversity initiatives beyond traditional dimensions to include aspects such as age and neurodiversity.

Furthermore, the survey reveals a mixed reception towards AI, with 78% of respondents acknowledging its potential to enhance the role of finance professionals by allowing them to add more value. However, there’s a palpable concern about the rapid pace of technological change, with a notable demand for more training on technology (85%) to ensure professionals are well-equipped to leverage these advancements.

The mental well-being of employees also emerges as a critical concern, with 57% of respondents reporting that work pressures adversely affect their mental health. This underscores the necessity for employers to intensify their support and develop more effective well-being programs to alleviate work-related stress and anxiety.

Former Pakistan cricket captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is renowned not only for his achievements on the field but also for his philanthropic endeavors off the pitch. Recently, he captured hearts with a groundbreaking announcement to establish a free university in Karachi, in collaboration with the JDC Foundation Pakistan.

Ahmed’s visit to the JDC’s International Free School House of Education, alongside his brother, marked the beginning of a visionary project. During the meeting with JDC’s general secretary, Zafar Abbas, the wicketkeeper expressed his aspiration to emulate the success of the House of Education by creating a university on the same model as JDC’s House of Education.

For the unversed, JDC’s House of Education stands is free school, established by JDC, adhering to international standards while employing the city’s finest educators to cater to underprivileged students.

The announcement of Sarfaraz Ahmed’s initiative was made public through JDC’s Facebook page, accompanied by a video. The caption revealed Ahmed’s intention to establish an international university in Karachi.

Zafar Abbas, speaking on the project, stated that Sarfaraz Ahmed is planning to establish a free university, that will feature top-tier educators and administrators from both national and global backgrounds.

Meanwhile, reflecting on his motivation behind this idea, Sarfaraz Ahmed highlighted the financial constraints faced by many aspiring students due to rising inflation. Driven by a desire to alleviate this burden, the former captain pledged to establish a free university for the youth of Karachi, in collaboration with JDC.

When it comes to the crossover segment of vehicles in Pakistan, there are quite a few options that come to mind. However, there are two options that are currently standing quite apart than the rest. Yes, we are talking about the Toyota Corolla Cross and the Haval H6 HEV. Both of these vehicles are high-end vehicles in their domains and both of them deserve appreciation for the effort put in them.

Toyota and Haval introduced innovative SUV options in Pakistan’s automotive market when they released these two vehicles. People were taken aback by how much the vehicles were offering in the price. The Toyota Corolla Cross and Haval H6 both belong to the C-category vehicle segment but differ in size and features. Both of them stand their ground but each of them has pros and cons.

Corolla Cross and Haval H6

The Corolla Cross features a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated hybrid engine, while the Haval H6 boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. Thus, you can see that the Corolla Cross produces more power on account of the bigger engine. Additionally, it also allows for greater road grip, stability and an aggressive design. Both vehicles offer impressive fuel efficiency, delivering around 18 to 19 km/l in the city and even more on highways.

Interior-wise, the H6 offers a more luxurious experience with dual-tone interiors, advanced seat adjustments, and additional infotainment features like wireless charging and a 360-degree camera. In comparison, the Corolla Cross does offer luxury but you might feel that the interior of the vehicle could have been improved. In terms of exterior design, both SUVs showcase distinctive styling elements, with the H6 featuring a standout front grille and larger wheels compared to the Corolla Cross.

Which Vehicle Is Worth Buying?

Safety features favor the Haval H6, which includes advanced driver assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Emergency Braking, while the Corolla Cross offers basic Cruise Control. While it is true that the Corolla Cross features more power, the Haval H6 HEC certainly offers a lot more features in terms of safety and luxury.

However, we feel that the price of the Corolla Cross feels more justified than that of the H6, which is currently much higher than the Corolla Cross.

Election 2024: Eateries That Failed To Deliver To Their Customers

Election day might be over but the fiasco regarding the electoral debates is not. Meanwhile, social media users are aligning against eateries who failed to deliver to their customers the discounts they had offered. During the week, multiple eateries were seen advertising their food chains.

To encourage the public to go out and vote, multiple restaurants and cafes across Karachi started rolling out deals and discounts. All they had to do was show their inked thumb. The giveaways which also included freebies were a great way to make the public come out. However, multiple brands failed to commit to their promise and fans are now sharing their experiences which seems utterly disappointing.

From OMG to Burger Lab and Ginsoy which was offering a whooping discount of flat 50% off failed to amuse their customers yesterday.

Food blogger Osama Nasir shared a few of these deals on his Instagram. However, to his disregard, fans started pouring their thoughts on the lack of commitment shown by the restaurants. Later, Osama shared the public’s experience on his Instagram stories and urged the eateries to take some action regarding the misconduct faced by the customers.

The PCB’s recent reluctance to grant Hafeez permission for a media conference after the losses in Australia and New Zealand has raised eyebrows, signaling potential discord within the cricketing body.

Even Wahab Riaz, the chief selector, seems to have distanced himself from supporting the former captain. These events signal a shift in dynamics, leaving Hafeez’s future uncertain.

Notably, tensions escalated during a crucial meeting with the Prime Minister last month regarding the selection of Salman Butt as a selector.

Allegations surfaced that Hafeez, who was present via video call in the meeting, failed to endorse Wahab’s stance. He also distanced himself from the decisions and held Wahab accountable.

Meanwhile, Hafeez was also interfering in selection matters too much, which further soured the relationship between former teammates.

Interestingly, Wahab Riaz’s close association with Mohsin Naqvi, the newly elected Chairman of PCB, suggests a shift in allegiances. Although, Riaz tried to convince Naqvi to have a conversation with Hafeez but it fell flat, signaling the team director’s precarious position.

Following his appointment as team director, Hafeez faced challenges in securing a long-term contract due to governmental approval constraints. Subsequently, his efforts to address media queries regarding team performance were met with resistance from the PCB.

Saudi Arabia, recognizing the needs of its large expatriate community, has introduced new e-services through its Interior Ministry’s Absher and Muqeem portals.

Digital Transformation

The latest offerings include reporting lost or stolen passports or residency permits, managing visitor’s digital documents, correcting translated names, checking visa information, and receiving employer notices. These advancements aim to simplify processes, save time, and enhance services for expatriates and visitors.

Lt. Gen. Suleiman Al Yehia, chief of the Saudi General Directorate of Passports, emphasized the importance of these services during a launch ceremony in Riyadh. With a population of around 32.2 million people, Saudi Arabia hosts a significant expatriate workforce, totaling approximately 13.4 million individuals. These new digital services cater to the diverse needs of this community, facilitating smoother interactions with government agencies.

Simplifying Travel Procedures

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has made significant strides in digitalization, spurred further by the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic. The launch of the Absher app in 2013 marked the beginning of this digital transformation, offering citizens and residents access to a wide range of government services. Over time, the app has evolved to encompass various functions, from job applications to passport renewals.
