President and Boeing CEO wrote a letter to the PM Nawaz in August, offering 787 Dreamliners as a lease.
Pakistani government was then invited by Boeing to acquire the latest 787 Dreamliner jets. They also offered full support in regards to smooth adoption and running of new jets.
A BBC journalist today, confirmed the news on his Twitter account:
Breaking: PIA to get 8 @boeing 787 dream liners with deliveries due from mid next year. The chairman just told me exclusively.
Boeing 787 Dreamliners are considered as the most fuel efficient aircraft, for mid and long routes. PIA has been attempting to revive its glory by catering to both premium and economy class customers.
The newly launched PIA’s Premier Service with high-tech in-flight service facilities and updated menu is an attempt to attract premium flyers, and it is working out quite fine until now.
The menu introduced by the chefs also has edibles made of chicken, fish and mutton. The menu also includes light savoury snacks and desserts. “New menus are prepared by the airline’s menu preparation and implementation committee on the basis of customer feedback, with emphasis on fresh food, with new taste and improved presentation,” the statement added.
Changes and improvements have been brought about taking into consideration the customer feedback in mind where the freshness of food, inclusion of new edibles and food presentation are few of the essential aspects that have been addressed.
787 Dreamliner is a medium sized, wide body plane with a capacity of 335 seats- these aircraft will be used by PIA for long flights such as Europe, the US and East Asia routes.

Abdoz Arts, a visionary initiative aims at beautifying the city of Karachi by painting ugly chalk infested walls with artwork. Art enthusiasts and activists (mostly students) have in their own way tried to play a role in revamping city walls in public spaces creatively. This group of art & social enthusiasts took inspiration for their name from the famous Yellow Submarine.
A visionary initiative that was set up 2 years back, Abdoz Arts was started by a group of three friends, with a simple thought: If the walls seem so negative with hateful chalking, what would be the impact if painted with thematic artworks?
Appealing to passerby’s, the ideology of Abdoz Arts is to bring the art gallery to the masses. Beautifying the city, the group aims to repaint Pakistan with vibrant street art in a novel initiative.
Abdoz Arts has carried numerous CSR activities of brands aiming to bring back the lost color of Pakistan.
Recently, EFU Life Assurance Ltd. experimented and broke through the clutter to patron street art for a large scale project that was unveiled this Independence Day.
The event was perhaps the first of its kind, with a 2000 and 3000 square feet of public space painted in a span of 3 weeks. The event took place at two locations, Shahrah- e- Faisal and Stadium Road. Prior to the initiative, the spaces were marked with abusive wall chalking then replaced with initial white wash followed by murals depicting Pakistani culture and heritage.
The event named “Meri Shaan Mera Pakistan”provided a great opportunity for the young artists to exhibit their skills to those passing by. The wall was inaugurated by the commissioner Karachi along with hundreds of EFU Life employees. It is good to see brands playing a positive role in enhancing the aesthetics of the city rather than polluting it with billboards.

Pakistani singer Humaira Arshad has received her first divorce from Ahmed Butt with mutual consent after several years of misunderstandings and some serious allegations. The latest buzz is that the songstress has achieved the temprary custody of the son till September 23.
Court’s final decision would be pronounced after that. Earlier, the husband, Ahmed Butt had the custody of their son but Humaira took to court to fight for the child’s custody, as reported Express Tribune. She claimed that Butt had taken away their son by force.
Humaira told Express Tribune, “Ahmad Butt tortured me in front of people, snatched my money, and kidnapped my child and as a result I had no other choice but to make marriage a public affair.
The couple got married back in 2004- Humaira is a popular singer while Ahmed Butt was a former actor and model. The singer will receive the other two divorces in the upcoming days.
Previously, Humaira had gone to the family court asking for a divorce from her husband. She had also filed a case seeking separation from Ahmed Butt.
There were increasing differences and rising discontent between the two showbiz personalities and finally they both mutually agreed to get a divorce.
The couple has openly accused each other of fraud and cheating! Over the time things became highly uncontrollable and Humaira left the decision in her parents’ hands.
She further exclaimed that she did not want to turn her marriage into a public affair but because of her husband’s behavior and heinous accusations, she was forced to. She even organized a press conference responding to Butt’s press briefing where he laid direct accusations at her.
“I never want to come in front of public over a minor family dispute but my husband accused me of fraud of property and giving him life threats, that made me step up,” the singer told a popular newspaper.
“Ahmed never gave me a single penny, I was running the entire household on my earnings as a singer and Ahmed would ask for money every now and then. It is sad that he has brought family matters to this limit.”

Renowned educationist Professor Dr. Abdul Wahab passed away today, Tuesday at the Aga Khan University Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Abdul Wahab, 77, was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital in very critical condition on Monday, where he was initially put on a ventilator.
During his distinguished career, Dr. Abdul Wahab was affiliated with many renowned universities. He served as the Director of Institute of Business Administration (IBA), President of Muhammad Ali Jinnah University (MAJU) and Vice Chancellor of Karachi University (KU).
Abdul Wahab was a fearless man, being one of the few Vice Chancellors of KU who made effective, long-term changes at the institute.
The educationist held two master’s degrees, one from the Institute of Business Administration ( IBA ) and the other from Indiana, USA. He had also acquired a doctorate degree from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
The professor served as the acting Vice Chancellor of KU from July 6th 1994 to April 4th, 1995 and the Vice Chancellor from April 5th 1995 to November 9th 1996. He served as IBA’s director and dean twice in his career course (June 1984 to April 1995) and (November 1996 to July, 1999).
A man of his principles, the deceased was also accoladed with Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence) for his educational services. He was celebrated by the Pakistani and Japanese governments for his eminent impact on the education sector.
Many of those who had been associated with him paid condolences to the veteran on Twitter after his demise:
Mr. Wahab authored a book entitled “Sarkari Idaroun Ki Islah” in which he mentioned two major incidents of his career that became quite popular later on.
One of the prominent incidents that he discussed in the book was when he deprived his own son of admission into IBA since he did not meet the merit criteria. Those who knew him well know how particular he was about following rules and regulations – there were no exceptions no matter what.
“I wept that night because I had rejected admission of my own son. He had obtained a few marks less than the merit, but the principles must not be compromised,” Mr. Abdul Wahab wrote in the book. A man true to his principles, he was a great educationist to whom many owe their learnings and careers.
Pakistan’s leading poultry supplier, K&N’s has achieved a massive global accomplishment. The brand has won a whopping 7 medals and special trophy at Germany’s IFFA International Quality Competition for sausages and cold cuts.
It is a proud moment for K&N ‘s and for the whole of Pakistan, as they have defeated rival entries from European Union, North America, South America and Asia.
Indeed, the coveted brand should be lauded for achieving this great feat in Germany – a country where culinary veterans are famous for excellent sausage making skills.
K&N’s announced the tremendous feat on their Facebook page.
Submitting 7 products from its Deline range, 4 skinless sausages, and 3 cold cut; K&N’s achieved 5 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal for all products in the competition. Even a special trophy was awarded for K&N’s for bagging 5 gold medals.
The IFFA International Quality Competition for sausages and cold cuts takes place every 3 years. It is organized by DEUTSCHER FLEISCHER VERBAND during IFFA trade fair in Frankfurt, Germany- the world’s largest trade fair for the meat sector.
Popular global brands take part in the esteemed contest by submitting their products for assessment. Winners are selected on the basis of product’s appearance, color, aroma, taste, composition, consistency/texture, external finishing and packaging.
Congratulations to K&N’s for their great victory in Germany!
I am a frequent flyer with Emirates; I have seen their journey of becoming the biggest airline. The growth of any business results in growing pains. The brand being highly generous chooses to share these ‘growing pains’ with their loyal customers (only ones from Pakistan through apparently). I have had some highly interesting experiences of late that I believe can be attributed to ‘Fresh’ and ‘Energetic’ Managers that have taken the reigns at Emirates, perhaps in my next piece I will write more about their management.
Before going into the details of my recent, delightful trip from Dubai to Pakistan, let me put some things into context. Emirates operates at least 6 daily flights from Karachi, within a week this rounds up to some 170 flights a month, and then to a colossal (approximate) monthly total of 240 odd flights Pan Pakistan, which assuming the exorbitant fare amounts is a lucrative income generator from a country like us.
Perhaps it is because of our good heritage, we Pakistanis, are forced to ‘Enjoy’ ‘highly interesting and memorable experiences’ when we choose to travel with them. One expects complimentary services for premium billing and Emirates clearly, goes the extra mile (quite literally) to provide additional services. Starting from the top, let’s just say Emirates loves taking care of the health and well-being of their Pakistani passengers.
The airline ensures this by increasing the distance you have to travel to get to your flight, getting a healthy jog and building up a sweat along the way as your terminal is more often than not situated at the furthest possible distance from the gate (but only if you are Pakistani) otherwise the gates are quite strategically situated if you are in Europe or the USA.
Then there’s the tongue-in-cheek humor of ‘ALWAYS’ making you take the concourse 3 (old terminal) if you are headed to a third world country. The kind of joke you can’t help but smile about (while you cringe internally). Also, worth mentioning is the amazing protocol of parking, the plane undertakes, half an hour away from the terminal, giving (Pakistani) travellers a luxurious 30-minute ride to the terminal after landing in Dubai.
This I attribute to a love for their passengers, they just can’t spend enough time with you on the flight, so they find excuses to add their time mileages in this case.
Recently, returning from Dubai to Pakistan, I experienced this love and care by experiencing both the 25-minute bus journey and a 10-mile walk to reach the plane I was supposed to board. Another thing Emirates takes care of is to not overly inflate your expectations of your in-flight experience, as the plane I stepped into reminded me quite remarkably of a local air carrier. The pilot knew that we were all sweating bullets after the 10 -mile walk and the 40-degree temperature so he graciously kept the air-conditioning off so we wouldn’t get sick from the sudden temperature change.
Watch video below:
True to Emirates policy we were present in the plane 40 minutes before it was supposed to take off, I can honestly say it was fairly entertaining looking at all my fellow passengers and the cabin crew perspiring freely during the ‘best-in-flight-entertainment-ever’, which prompted me to reminisce the load shedding back home, it just felt ‘totally-felt-like-home’. I was forced to applaud the lengths the Emirates management went through, to give us a humbling ‘Typical-Pakistani-experience’.
In my opinion, Emirates should change their tagline from “Hello Tomorrow” to “Uniquely Pakistani, Just for Pakistanis”. I tried sharing my views with the management but sadly there was such a massive flood of love and admiration from their other passengers in their inboxes that my singular suggestion got lost amidst the outpouring of alternative love. Recently, it is pertinent sharing an ordeal one of my colleagues, uncle and aunt went through (Emirates again), enroute Karachi to Dubai, (then onward to pilgrimage to the Holy Land).
The poor couple along with the other passengers were on board for five grueling hours on the aircraft and were not allowed to leave due to some security reasons, the common denominator when a scapegoat has to be called out for. Once again, the on-ground management offered no solace and complaints went unheard, unregistered and unvented.
Numerous passengers must have surely gone through similar experiences such as the one I have narrated., which brings me to put forth a recommendation to the powers that be at the CAA and for that matter even at the Aviation Ministry, to have an overall look, and dare I say an audit into the treatment meted out to Pakistani travelers on this extremely, popular airline.
The writer is a frequent traveler with the airline, and a frequent traveler per say, and hopes that his truth and dare tell-tale shall encourage the stakeholders to stand up and take notice. Forthright and with due diligence and care.

The title track is even better than the musical promo. Seems like a love storm is about to hit Bollywood with Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Boasting a stellar cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Fawad Khan, the movie is all set to work its wonders on the box-office.
The song by Arijit Singh has created extreme excitement for the flick! You will fall in love with the chemistry between the stars. Apparently, Ranbir will be playing the role of a singer and will be romancing Sharma and Rai.

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued a show cause notice to GEO News on Monday, for airing fake and unconfirmed news, with respect to Jalil Abbasi Jilani- the ambassador of Pakistani to the USA.
GEO reported that Jilani was criticized by the White House for tweeting pictures with Michelle Obama, the first lady, without taking consent or official permission.
Pakistan’s embassy was displeased, tweeting that the news was factually incorrect. The Pakistan Embassy in Washington and Foreign Office in Islamabad were informed of this via a letter.
When Ambassador Jilani filed a complaint, PEMRA then took notice of the situation, taking action against GEO News. “It allowed international media to defame our country,” he added.
No such letter has been received in our Mission in Washington or Ministry. It is nothing but a figment of the Reporter’s own imagination.
The First Lady of United States, Michelle Obama paid a visit to Pakistan Embassy in May.
Ambassador Jilani tweeted about this: “It was an absolute delight hosting FLOTUS at Pakistan House today.”
It was reported that this was the first time a US first lady had visited Pakistan Embassy in Washington.
PEMRA has recently put a ban on Indian content being aired on Pakistani channels, creating quite the uproar amongst Indian celebrities, who believe most of the business comes from Pakistan. However, many Pakistanis were content with this decision.
Previously, PEMRA had also put a ban on Dr. Shahid Masood’s show on ARY News, for 45 days. The program was banned because it accused chief justice Sindh High Court in one of the episodes. PEMRA is on a roll!
