China breaks yet another technology record by launching Oppo R5, the world’s thinnest smartphone. Weighing 155 g, Oppo R5 is only 4.85 mm thick!

To keep the smartphone’s thickness below 5 mm, Oppo had to compromise on some of the specifications for R5 and they do not exactly match the flagship status of its N series predecessors. Oppo R5 specifications include:

. 2.1 GHz SnapDragon 615 octa-core Cortex-A53 processor

. 16 GB internal storage and 2 GB RAM

. 3D welded aluminum alloy frame

. 5.2″ AMOLED screen with 1080pixel resolution  and 423 ppi

. Android 4.4-based Color OS 2.0

. Cooling element made out of phase changing materials and liquid metal to keep the heat low at the chip set

. Camera with 13 Mega Pixel Sony IMX214 sensors. The camera can record 2160 pixel video at 30fps and 1080 pixel at 60fps and plus 720 pixel slow motion video at 120fps

. Front Camera with 5 Mega Pixel shooter

. 2,000mAh Li-Polymer battery

. Connectivity options range from 2G to 4G LTE TDD and 4G LTE FDD and include WiFi and Bluetooth

. For audio, compatible options include wireless O-Music accessory

The market launch date for Oppo R5 is not yet known but the rumored price for sale of the phone is $499.

We all saw the problems iPhone 6 users faced due to its design features, therefore, only time will tell how Oppo R5 manages to perform practically with such a thin size. The Oppo 5 phone will mostly attract attention from the users who are more fashion conscious about their phones, rather than users who use their smartphones for business or other heavy usage purposes.
