E.L. James, the author of the widely successful ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ series, will be releasing a new version of the book from the point of view of the much-loved male protagonist, Christian Grey. The novel, titled ‘Grey’, is due for release on 18th June, the titular character’s birthday.

James used Instagram as a way to announce the book, claiming she did it for the fans who had been asking for Christian Grey’s point of view of the erotic love affair in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’:

The ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ trilogy chronicles the tumultuous and intense romantic relationship between Christian Grey, a business tycoon, and Anastasia Steele, a recent college graduate.

‘Grey’ promises to be much of the same: the story is to be retold from Christian Grey’s point of view. Publishers expect it to be just as popular as the original series, with an optimistic 1.25 million copies being produced in the first printing.

While it initially started out as a piece of fanfiction based on ‘Twilight’, the franchise has garnered extraordinary success. The three books have sold over 125 million copies worldwide, and a movie adaptation of the first book was released earlier this year with further sequels planned.

Although E.L. James’ series have been exceedingly popular with the masses, they have faced an overall negative critical reception in terms of writing style and storytelling.

Barely a day after the announcement was made, ‘Grey’ was number one on Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com. Though the book is still two weeks away from being available in stores, it is already turning out to be a bestseller.
