Pakistan is an unsung nation whose women are no less than men. Recently, a Pakistani woman created another world record making the entire nation swell with pride.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), Uzma Yousuf became the first Pakistani woman to summit the peak of the Spantik Mountain in the Karakoram Range on Wednesday.

Under Extreme Temperatures, Uzma Created a World Record

ACP spokesperson, Karrar Haidri said:

“Uzma Yousaf reached the top of the 7,027 meter mountain in the Gilgit-Baltistan region at 9:16am”

Spanitik Peak, also known as the Golden Peak, is famous for its razor sharp rocks and is labeled as one of the most difficult mountains which stand more than 7,000 meters.

Mr. Karrar continued:

“With this accomplishment, Uzma Yousaf is also the first Pakistani woman to summit any 7,000 metre peak in Pakistan”.

According to another climber:

“The trekking stretch across razor sharp rocks is treacherous as the 40 degree steep climbing sections of the peak cannot be negotiated without fixing ropes.”

The climber went on to talk about the plummeting temperatures,

“temperatures can plummet to 30 degrees below zero in the nights and strong winds are also very common on the mountain”.

The Golden Peak was last was last ascended by a 12-member Pakistan-China Friendship expedition in July 2012, led by retired Col. Abdul Jabbar Bhatti. Mr. Bhatti recently became the fourth Pakistani to reach the top of Mount Everest.
