Maruti Suzuki has been known for gifting the Indian automobile market with vehicles that are ‘compact’ in size as well as price range. Staying true to its tradition, the Indian Japanese manufacturer introduced its latest entry of fuel efficient cars called ‘Celerio’.

What makes this car distinct from others is the auto gear shift technology that uses the same fuel efficiency as the manual transmission at 23.1 litre per km.

“Maruti Suzuki has always believed in offering cars that set new benchmarks of technology, style and overall costs in India,” said Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director and chief executive, Maruti Suzuki.

When inquired about how this innovative idea came about in the minds of the engineers, Maruti Suzuki revealed that the thought trickled up from the discovery that one in four of the customers who visited the Maruti showrooms asked about automatic cars. However, most of the customers landed up buying a car with manual transmission because they are much cheaper.

The automatic-transmission version of the Celerio is priced for 429,000 to 459,000 Indian Rupees while the manual transmission model will have a sticker price of 390,000 to 496,000 rupees.
