A Pakistani startup, Poulta, an artificial intelligence (AI) company has developed a design of smart portable ventilator amid the coronavirus. The company works in improving the poultry farming industry but as per requirement, it is working on portable ventilators.

The design of the ventilator has been sent to the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for approval.

Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Poulta, Ali Murtaza Solangi emphasized that traditional ventilators require a team to be trained to operate them. However, their smart design can be operated remotely and centrally through the internet.

All the relevant public companies, private companies, and technology product companies have been brought together by the government.

Pakistan is currently facing a shortage of ventilators which is essential for the treatment of the coronavirus. Many companies have sent their designs as of now. A committee formed by the government will test the designs, and once approved, the work on the chosen design will begin.

An average ventilator from abroad would cost around $10,000-$12,000. Keeping in mind, the budget restraints, Pakistan can’t afford a huge quantity. However, Poulta’s design, if approved, can cost $2200.
Once approved, the company can put together 500-1000 ventilators with the next 5 weeks.

Update: 1st April 2020

Amid the on-going global crisis, Saudi Arabia had announced bans on international flights and a temporary ban on Umrah to contain the spread of coronavirus. Earlier, the holy cite of Makkah had been temporarily shut down for disinfecting the whole cite.

Later, the Tawaaf came to a halt on March 21 when the government announced extraordinary measures to control the spread of the deadly coronavirus. The authorities also banned congregational prayers in Masjid al-Haram and Masjid al-Nabvi allowing only the staff workers and security guards.

But just recently, the Tawaaf on the Mataaf has finally been resumed allowing only a small gathering at a time.

(Update: 14th March 2020)

According to Gulf News, Saudi Arabia will suspend all international flights for two weeks from Sunday, 15th March 2020. The decision of suspension was made in order to slow down the spread of the coronavirus as per the announcement made on Saturday by the Ministry of Interior.

On Friday, reportedly, 24 new cases of coronavirus infections were reported in the Kingdom, leading the count to 86 cases.

Earlier, as Umrah attracts millions of Muslims from all over the globe, on Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Saudi Arabia has announced to temporarily suspended religious visits to help prevent the spread of coronavirus. The sudden increase in reported coronavirus cases has shaken the world.

The Saudi government is taking strict actions to stop the virus as neighboring countries including Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates have reported a number of cases. However, no infections have been reported in Saudi Arabia by the authorities so far.

Keeping in mind the safety, the country has also suspended entry for those with a tourist visa from countries with confirmed outbreaks of coronavirus. Adding on to this, Saudi Arabia is also suspending entry by the citizens residing in GCC who are traveling under their national IDs. But for Saudis who are abroad will be able to return home and GCC citizens will also be permitted to return to their countries using their own national IDs.

This is definitely a state of emergency and we can really hope this virus stops from spreading. Let’s pray for this situation to get better.

Saudi Arabia has extended flight and travel bans

The recent coronavirus fears have made Saudi Arabia to extend the ban. Moreover, it has further extended its flights and travel ban for countries including the European Union and 12 other countries after announcing 24 new cases overnight to bring its total to 45, according to media reports.

The temporary ban on Umrah for pilgrims has been extended

Fulfilling A Dire Need, PepsiCo Pledges #MillionsOfMeals

Economic activity has suffered greatly since the COVID19 pandemic broke out. For struggling economies like Pakistan, this unprecedented turn of events has great implications. The first case of the novel coronavirus emerged in Pakistan in February.

All major provinces of the country have been in complete lockdown since the third week of March, and the jobs and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands have suffered nationwide. Especially, the group of people whose wages are the only source to provide for their families- the millions of Pakistanis surviving on daily wages.

In this time of severe turmoil and uncertainty, PepsiCo Pakistan has risen to the occasion by pledging to provide millions of meals to those who are most in need. With the incomes of millions compromised due to the nation shutting down, there is a dire need for corporations, brands and the more privileged segments of society to mobilize their efforts for the welfare of others.

The #MillionsOfMeals initiative will work towards the provision of meals to those who are most in need. Considering the gravity of the situation in an economic system such as Pakistan’s, it is greatly uplifting for an organization to step forward and pledge their support for the welfare of the nation.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the world has been plunged into disturbing and uncertain times. In these times, such an act of kindness and thoughtfulness is all that is needed to inspire hope among masses.

How To Take Care Of Your Skin In The Easiest Ways During Quarantine!

Source/ NY Times

With the coronavirus ensuring many of us are confined to our homes, an opportunity arises for us to be a bit more experimental with our beauty regimes. And, while we encourage you to build up a bold look for that 10 am Zoom call for a work meeting or whip out a glossy pout when your friends dial in on HouseParty, enforced solitude also offers the chance to trial a more potent skincare ingredient, to switch up the way we care for our hair or even just to give ourselves some downtime from our usual beauty routines.

With that in mind, here are some suggestions for those men and women who are curious about the ideal skincare guide in this quarantine condition:

1. What skincare routine should we adopt during social-distancing?

Source/ Giphy

It is crucial to keep up your regular skincare regimen. The best thing you can do during these times is to make sure you keep your face clean. Do wash your face regularly and moisturize it. But, you must be careful not to over wash and cause dryness to your facial skin.

2. Should you apply sunscreen at home?

Source/ Tumblr

The spectrum of light isn’t just about the sunburn you’re getting at the beach. It’s about many different damaging forms of light that you’re encountering all day, every day. And that’s why SPF is the most important thing you can do for your skin, whether you’re outside or inside or whether it’s summer or winter.

3. What diet should you follow for that flawless skin?

Source/ Giphy

It’s all about detoxing and working on your insides. So, choose whole foods, eat more fruits, and go low on sugar and carbs. Don’t forget potent immune-boosting nutrients that will give your body an extra wall of defense.

Zinc fights against viruses so eat your weight in pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and egg yolks. Get lots of vitamin C through citrus fruits, kiwis, papaya, and strawberries. Selenium helps too, so binge on organic meats/eggs, onion, garlic and broccoli. Everything can add up to a beautiful glow.

4. Keep yourself hydrated, hydrated and a little more hydration won’t harm anyone.

Source/ Tumblr

Two liters of water a day is mandatory, which leads to a glowing skin alongside good health. Your body and your skin will thank you for the hydration.

5. You should add supplements to your diet

Source/ Giphy

You should add supplements and multivitamins to your diet that will help your skin and your immunity, to combat the Coronavirus hanging over our heads like a sword these days. Make sure your vitamin D is optimum.

Take a supplement that contains your daily-required dose. This is especially important if you are already aware that you are deficient. You can also add an anti-inflammatory or immunity-boosting supplement with curcumin, ginger, pithorin, and milk thistle extracts.

6. Why not try DIY skincare?

Source/ Tumblr

Make it a point of cleansing your face properly, as all your overnight skin-secretions and night creams are sitting on your skin. After that, hold a warm towel to relax your face for a minute or two. Then, use a moisturizer suited to your skin type and massage your face for a few minutes.

Rinse it off with slightly warm water. Finish by running a cube of ice over your face and voila, your at-home skin facial is done! Moreover, you can use jade rollers for more thorough lymphatic drainage.

Multani Mitti or Fuller’s earth can help tighten your pores and brighten your skin. It will also help against any oiliness caused by the onset of summer. A bit of grated coconut or turmeric works wonders as a gentle massage and exfoliating medium.

Turmeric can also be left on as a mask, its antiseptic properties make it ideal for this time. Those of you who have oily skin will do well to add a dash of lemon into the mix. A spoon full of honey mixed with a little sugar makes for a wonderful hydrating exfoliant too!

7. Is there any reason why you’re not exercising?

Source/ Giphy

Exercise helps maintain healthy levels of the stress-related hormone cortisol. A high cortisol level could lead to breakouts or cause the collagen in your skin to break down, which can increase wrinkles and sagging. A good workout will actually help your body in the production of collagen, and this keeps your skin firm and supple so don’t miss out on a workout.

Also, remember that we’re all in this together!

Zeeshan Hasib Baig, Country General Manager Careem Pakistan, commented, “Captains are the heart of what we do at Careem, and we appreciate and value their selfless service to our customers and communities in these unprecedented times. We understand that many of our captains rely on Careem as a single source of income to provide for their loved ones, and we are here to support them and their families in times of need to the best our ability”

Despite all the efforts made, it may simply not be enough, as highlighted in an open letter to relevant governments, financial institutions, businesses and the general public by Mudassir Sheikha, Careem Founder and CEO to help Careem help captains in their time of need. The letter states, amongst other things

“There is no easy way to describe it: our captains are in grave danger of losing everything.
If we focus just on Careem’s half a million active captains and assume they need just $500 a month as a bare minimum to cover their most basic financial needs, the captain community needs the financial support of $250 million per month. It is not feasible for Careem or any other company to fill this gap on its own.”

Careem’s COVID-19 Response Team continues to closely monitor and follow the guidelines of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and are in touch with local government and public health authorities for any latest developments.

Nissan Officially Bids Farewell to the Datsun Brand!

Datsun

In July 2019, a report came forth which claimed that Nissan is deciding to pull the plug on its low-cost Datsun lineup.

Now, it has become official, Nissan has decided to discontinue the Datsun brand in Indonesia.

As a part of its crisis recovery plan, Nissan will not be producing economy sector cars under the Datsun name anymore.

Now that Datsun has been discontinued in Indonesia, there is an almost next to impossible chance of the Datsun Go, Go Plus and Go-Cross to make their debut in Pakistan.

Datsun had been planning to enter Pakistan’s automotive markets via the Ghandhara Nissan umbrella.

But even after receiving the Brownfield Status by the Government of Pakistan under Auto Policy 2016-21, the company failed to resurrect its plant hence did not introduce a single-vehicle.

October 2019: The automotive manufacturer is expected to consider ending other nonprofitable products and close a number of assembly lines worldwide to boost their profits by cutting operation costs.

Internally known as the performance recovery plan Nissan will try to break the strategy under ousted leader Carlos Ghosn.

A source has shared:

We’re trying to clean up what had happened in the past. Under Ghosn, Nissan sought to meet sales objectives at any cost, including ‘practically giving away cars’ to fleet customers.

On the other hand, to deal with plunging markets around the world, Nissan has also decided to cut 12,500 employees (9%) from its global taskforce.

Furthermore, earlier this month Ghandhara Nissan shared that it will be reviewing its plans to launch Datsun vehicles in Pakistan because of the current economic situations of the country.

Renault also had a similar stance when considering to enter Pakistan due to the economy.

We have now to see what Nissan decides to do with Datsun’s fate.

Pakistan’s government launches “Whatsapp Corona Helpline” to combat misinformation. Whatsapp users across Pakistan can now reach out to health ministry for authentic information during the pandemic regarding the virus.

You can contact the helpline at +923001111166 for credible information, labs that are testing for the virus, awareness resources, and the latest statistics.

Citizens are requested to save this number and start a conversation by saying ‘Hi’. They can choose a question from FAQ or type their query. In response, they will most likely receive a message with a video, link, or text to answer their query.

To make the service accessible, the government has prepared the portal in 6 languages including Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto, Balochi, Kashmiri, and Urdu.

Speaking of statistics, the service follows the National Institute of Health’s 10 updates that confirm the number of cases in region/countrywide.

Khurram Jamali, Advisor to Digital Pakistan head Tania Aidrus says, “WhatsApp is one platform where most conversations take place in the country. With the helpline, we aim to put maximum people at ease by letting them self-assess Covid risks and hence also lessen the burden on our health infrastructure.”

He added, “The aim is to compile confirmed tests of Covid-19 from labs across the country in one place that is accessible to the public.”

The service is backed up by artificial intelligence that answers FAQ’s and also recommends testing based on questions such as “do you have a fever above 100?”, “do you have a cough?”, “have you traveled in the last 14 days?” or if “you have pre-existing conditions”.

We kind of just wish everything to go back to normal. We’ve spent plenty of time in self-isolation reflecting on the things we’ve taken for granted. Quick runs, a coffee date, gym classes, dhaabe ki chaai, the availability of a hand sanitizer and grabbing a Big Mac on our way back to work.

Aamir Liaquat Thanks Police & Rangers By Cooking Biryani For Them!

Source/ Brandsynario

It appears as if the entire world has joined hands in order to aid the underprivileged, doctors, paramedics and the officers who are being affected the most from COVID 19. From designers to gigantic companies to celebs – everyone is playing their part in helping the community.

Recently, Pakistani celebs like Feroze Khan, Asim Jofa, Nomi Ansari, Ali Zafar, and Maya Ali went the extra mile to help the ones in need right now. Jumping on the bandwagon – host and religious scholar Aamir Liaquat performed an act of kindness to laud the real heroes. He distributed self-cooked biryani to police and rangers near his residence.

The scholar also distributed ration bags to several people in need

Doctors, nurses, medical staff, police, and rangers are playing the most crucial role right now. They are risking their lives every day to assure the security of millions of families. They are on their duty day and night to halt many from roaming on the roads without any valid reason so others who are staying at home can stay safe.

Pakistan is currently in crisis. We are not financially secured to cure thousands of patients all at once. It’s no surprise that COVID 19 is spreading like a wildfire throughout the globe and the sole way to control it is to stay in isolation. We as citizens of Pakistan must acknowledge and appreciate all the doctors, paramedical staff, police, and rangers for doing a phenomenal job in the time of crisis.

These Pakistani Clothing Brands Are Urging Customers Not to Buy Their Clothes!

Source: JustDial

The novel Coronavirus has caused massive chaos and uncertainty throughout the country, with over 1664 cases in Pakistan, the situation is getting dire as the days go by. During this difficult time, the government has imposed a lockdown where all stores, businesses, schools and offices will remain closed in order to curb the spread of the virus.

The economic situation hangs in the air and there is not much one can do to get their incomes flowing like before since the public remains indoors. While most clothing brands are offering online sales, flat 50% off discounts and much more, there are a few Pakistani brands who are doing the nobel thing and instead of promoting their own products are asking their customers to use that money efficiently, where it is needed the most.

Noor Jahan Collection urges its clients to save money and help the needy instead of buying their clothes.

Another Pakistani clothing brand doing the same is Numan Sulman who are saying,

“Don’t buy our clothes, save that money and help others.”

It is a great initiative to have brands doing such efforts in order to send out a message of unity and giving out to the society since covid-19 has got everyone under an undue amount of pressure. Only if our communities work together will we be able to fight this virus.
