GIK Graduates Develop Pakistan’s First Real-time Product Tracking Website

Throughout the world, economies of many counties are highly affected due to the coronavirus pandemic. The outbreak continues to limit all the key business activities around the world. Similarly, Pakistan has also become an acute victim in this situation of strict lockdown inflicted by the government.

People of Pakistan are enduring the current situation and suffering from the lack of essential necessities. Almost all the markets are closed throughout the country due to the lockdown and people are unable to meet their basic needs. Moreover, they are also not willing to step out of their homes to avoid any risk.

In this current situation, people are worried about stepping out to purchases but instead, routing themselves towards online shopping. Online shopping is considered to be the most significant option during the coronavirus pandemic. Unfortunately, online shopping is also becoming a challenge for those people who are not accustomed of buying things online as they are not familiar with the authentic sites for purchasing the goods. Forthwith, most of the online stores have shut down their services and some are engaged in overpricing their products only if, they are delivering.

Graduates of GIK Institute have overcome this misfortune

Mr. Muhammad Bilal Jamil and Mr. Syed Ali Abbas Haider have developed a live product tracking website “Shoppingum.com” which can easily resolve the issues regarding online shopping during this crisis. This is the biggest platform to fulfill the users’ needs. Users can get their desired product from the most authentic online store while searching it through Shoppingum.

Founders of this platform assure that this website is the biggest single platform that uses advanced data mining and machine learning algorithms to live track millions of products that are available on almost all the trusted and authentic online stores. Moreover, this website also classifies online stores that are delivering amid the lockdown and also helps the users locate their nearby online store so they can purchase their desired products, at their earliest. The price of the products is also mentioned on the website and users can easily check out the prices according to the scale from lowest to highest or vice versa.

The functioning of live tracking of products:

The functioning of live tracking products gives the best results to users. Whenever a user searches a product on the website, the complex search algorithm initiates a live product fetch operation from all online stores in Pakistan. It brings the most relevant and desirable results on the screen for the user. It also classifies the online stores that are delivering or not delivering during the lockdown crises.

This user-friendly website also displays the locations of the stores so the user can easily opt for the fastest delivery options. And guess what? All this happens within a blink of an eye just by a single click. It is so easy to use that people would highly recommend it to others too after using its easy and useful functions.

Pakistan’s first-ever live online shopping search engine “Shoppingum” truly provides benefits by just a single click. People don’t have to worry about going out to buy the products because statistics of this website show that it has more than 3.2 million products from 210 online stores in Pakistan and query of any user can be resolved through this website by getting the most relevant and fresh information through updated live proving.

This website not only enables the user to save time by locating a product across the internet within seconds but it also succors to get the most updated information about the delivery of the product, which is perhaps a lifesaving option during the coronavirus pandemic.

While purchasing any product the main focus is the “price”. Why worry over the price when Shoppingum is there for you? The website also offers a side to side price comparison feature of the product which helps the user to locate not only the nearby but also the cheapest product. This feature protects the user from becoming a victim of false information, over-pricing, and scams.

So, what are you waiting for?
Grab the opportunity by using shoppingum.com and get your desired product in this immense crisis and save your time.

March 31st, 2020:

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted authorization for limited emergency-use of two antimalarial drugs.

Earlier, these medications were titled ‘game-changers’ by US President Donald Trump. On the other hand, the US Department of Health and Human Services (USDHHS) is stockpiling chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine.

According to USDHHS, the FDA had allowed them “to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible.”

However, even though the President has referred to these drugs as a “gift” and is pushing for these for treatment, medical experts say otherwise. Moreover, there have been reported deaths from self-medication of the mentioned drugs.

Researchers including Anthony Fauci, the United States’ leading infectious disease expert, have urged the public to remain cautious until larger clinical trials validate smaller studies.

The National Institutes of Health and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority are meanwhile conducting such trials.

How to Register for “Coronavirus Relief Tiger Force”?

March 26th 2020: Self-medication has always been frowned upon by many doctors. Mainly this is because without understanding what we really have, we try to treat it our way only to make it worse.

The Corona Experts Advisory Group (CEAG) held is first official meeting Tuesday, where public health was widely discussed. Following the meeting, CEAG has issued a warning to individuals not to self-medicate themselves nor to take Chloroquine.

CEAG explained that unsupervised usage of Chloroquine and Hydroxichloro-quine can cause serious side effects/untoward reactions and will only deteriorate one’s condition.

“The CEAG in its first meeting on Tuesday deliberated the opinion of using Chloroquine and Hydroxichloroquine for prophylaxis of COVID-19 based on currently available evidence,” reads a meeting document.

Moreover, an official also added that the experts have issued these warnings after a number of complaints had come forth from people who had been using these drugs for the treatment.

Sindh Govt. Introduces Mobile Service For Ration Distribution Among Daily Wagers

Ever since US President Donald Trump announced that the anti-malaria drug Chloroquine is the answer to fighting COVID-19, many started to take the drug with unsupervised doses only using the information available on the internet!

“The committee is of the opinion that there is insufficient scientific evidence to advise Chloroquine and Hydroxichloroquine for prophylaxis (prevention) of the COVID-19”, reads the document.

Furthermore, the group also shared guidelines for the protection of the frontline health professionals who have been attending to CoronaVirus patients at hospitals for Punjab.

There are 3 levels of protection that have been set in place – general pre-examination triage/OPDs, triage centres for corona general wards and isolation wards/ICUs, and HDUs to be adopted by health professionals during treatment of the patients.

It is important to mention here that CEAG has declared it mandatory for all medical staff members to use/wear surgical masks across all healthcare institutes in Punjab. Staff members working in OPDs of infectious diseases and OPDs of respiratory care, endoscopic examination rooms must upgrade their surgical masks to medical protective masks (N 95) reportedly.

Usage of the protective face screen based on level III protection is now mandatory as well during the collection of specimens from patients.

“The life of N95 mask is eight days (eight hours duty per 24 hours with two hours break) provided if they do not get soiled and are used by the same user”, read the new guidelines.

Guidelines for disinfecting a room, operation theatres, and other areas where confirmed and suspected patients are kept have also been issued.

PTCL Group Posts Rs 32 Billion Revenue for Q1, 2020

Islamabad, April 9, 2020: Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), the country’s leading telecom and ICT services provider, has announced its financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2020 at its Board of Directors’ meeting held in Islamabad on April 9, 2020.

COVID-19 pandemic has created global shockwaves and its effects have changed the landscape of every perceptible area of ordinary life. PTCL stands with the nation in this tough time and continues to provide seamless connectivity across Pakistan. Our frontline teams, equipped with all protective gear, are at the forefront to serve our customers nationwide. The Company has enabled more than 1,200 contact center agents with ‘work from home’ facilities to ensure that due social distancing is maintained while serving the connectivity needs of our customers. To ensure continuity of essential services for our valued customers, certain customer service centers have also been kept open. Our sales and customer care teams are constantly in touch with our corporate customers to cater, not only, to their existing requirements, but to also address any new customer needs emanating from the COVID-19 pandemic.

PTCL Group’s revenue of Rs 31.8 Billion in Q1 2020 is lower by 5% as compared to the same period of last year. When normalized for the impact of certain regulatory changes, the revenue is 3% higher than Q1 2019 on a like-for-like basis. UBank, a microfinance banking subsidiary of PTCL, continued its growth momentum and has achieved a 44% growth in its quarterly revenue over last year. The Group’s operating profit and bottom line have deteriorated over last year due to rupee devaluation, increase in interest rates, higher power tariffs and the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

PTCL revenue of Rs 17.7 Billion for the quarter is 1% lower than last year but on a like-for-like basis the revenue is stable and at par with Q1 2019. In line with its ambition to be a customer-centric organization, PTCL is focusing on uplifting customer experience by various initiatives. This, coupled with PTCL’s improved and upgraded network infrastructure, will enable the Company to be a service provider of choice for its customers.

Corporate and Wholesale businesses continued their growth momentum and have achieved an 8% overall revenue growth YoY. This has been possible through PTCL’s leading market position in IP Bandwidth and its strong presence in Managed Services, Cloud and other ICT services segment. Similarly, international revenue has also shown a 5% growth as compared to the same period last year.  Wireless revenue for the quarter has shown a 3% YoY revenue growth as a result of a renewed business focus on this segment. In addition to increased spend on wireless customer acquisition, PTCL focused on rationalization of its wireless data products to make them competitive with the products offered by the cellular operators. Despite the growth in the above segments, shrinkage in other segments has meant a like-for-like stable revenue in Q1 2020.

PTCL’s Operating and Net Profit after Tax for the quarter have declined as compared to last year due to the increase in operating costs. However, the increase in non-operating income on account of the disposal of obsolete assets and higher income on investments due to higher interest rates, has helped lessen the gap at the bottom-line level with the comparative period.

Being a national company, PTCL also proactively supported Coronavirus affected families in Sukkur through a special package comprising of ration, medicines and protective gears. The Company is playing its part by being socially responsible during the on-going global crisis.

PTCL, in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Government of Pakistan, launched an awareness campaign on COVID-19 to ensure that verified information is available on PTCL digital mediums for general public consumption. For their ease and convenience, PTCL is facilitating its customers with online channels such as PTCL website, Touch App, online banking, mobile financial services, etc. so they can avail PTCL services while observing the recommended social distancing

The application is produced by New Product Experimentation (NPE) team, which is relatively a very small team at Facebook who’s job is to solely experiment on projects.

However, Facebook will not be seen advertising this app as it didn’t pay much attention to previous apps launched by the New Product Experiment (NPE).

Still, it’s interesting to see Facebook experiment publicly with building apps for smaller social network connections. Such public experiments by Facebook include Threads, as well as Close Friends on Instagram.

However, Tuned doesn’t seem much different than any other social network where people can chat directly with one another.

15 Things that Highly Impact the Online Resale Value of your Car!

Credits: Liveabout

The internet has revolutionized the way people buy and sell cars.

You can now use video broadcasting sites such as YouTube, social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter and more importantly, online car classified sites to make an effective online sales pitch.

But just like any other market, is it simply enough to say “I am selling my car”? No. There is definitely a need for more.

So how can one sell his/her car while sitting in the comfort of his/her home with much ease that too at a good price?

Read on to find out a few tips that will get you the best price for your car online.

1 – Know Your Target Market (Optimize)

You need to know the nuts and bolts of the car market to make a quick sale. With the right amount of knowledge, you can sell your car at a much better price.

2- Set an Appropriate Price

Price matters a lot while selling a car, especially when you are selling it in a price-sensitive market like Pakistan. So go through the prices for the same type of car you are selling (you can do this online). Then price it accordingly. Don’t underestimate and don’t overestimate.

3. Add-Ons Add Value

To increase the worth of your car a bit more, don’t keep it purely stock but add a bit of add-on that does not spoil the car’s original look but only buffers it up.

4. Presentation Matters

Presentation ALWAYS matters, no matter how good your car is, if not properly buffed up it might not give you for what it’s worth.

5. Wash and Disinfect

Everybody needs grooming and so do our cars. The unsaid rule of keeping one is to keep it well washed and polished at ALL times.

6. Click Hi-Res Pictures

Now you are all ready to click some high-resolution pictures of your car. Why High Resolution Only? Because simply put, your buyers would want to see your product in detail.

7. Get the Paperwork in Order

One of the most common flaws in online selling of cars is when the paperwork of the car is not complete. Even with a single paper missing, the buyers slash down your car’s price tremendously. So instead of blaming them, get your papers together.

8. Tell the Buyers Everything (No Lies!)

When completing the description for your car, write as much detail as possible and use descriptive keywords to ensure clarity and accurate information for the buyer.

9. Give Detailed Specs

Tell them exactly what your car holds, the more detailed it is the better idea you give out to the buyer.

10. Use Keywords

Use keywords that match the exact make, model, and specifications of your car, for example, Honda Civic VTi 1.8 i-VTEC Prosmatec, 2010.

11. Offer Test Drives

Lure in the best buyers in town by offering a test drive option on the ad you place, the performance of the car itself can just be the thing to crack the deal.

12. Stay Responsive (No Excuses)

The quicker you are to respond to an interested buyer, the better your chances will be of making a sale.

14. Give Your Legit Contact Details

Double-check the contact details, before allowing your ad to go on air. You might waste all your hard work, just because of a simple mistake in contact details.

15. Use Car Classified Sites that Send Alerts

Sign up to different car classified websites like PakWheels, Carmudi, etc. to engage a larger and more diversified buyers list, from various different platforms.

Selling online requires much less effort compared to selling your car offline. It doesn’t require you to be a mechanic or majors in automotive; it simply requires a bit of your effort and that’s it.

Employment & Investment Confidence Plummets As Pakistan Economy Fights COVID-19

Accountancy experts say economic confidence in Q1 has capitulated as the Pakistani economy struggles to get to grips with the fallout from the Coronavirus.

A national survey of senior accountancy practitioners, who reflect the outlook of a large number of businesses they advise, found that confidence has fallen by more than 5% to -28, a record low for Q1 registered in the 11-year history of the research.

The report Global Economic Conditions Survey (GECS), jointly published by ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) reveals:

  • Global confidence fell to its lowest level on record with big falls in all regions
  • The global orders index, which tends to be less volatile than confidence, also fell sharply
  • Pakistan employment and investment tumble to record lows
  • Pakistan set to suffer a sharp economic contraction in coming months

Michael Taylor, the chief economist at ACCA, revealed there was a relatively little divergence in confidence between regions owing to the global nature of the coronavirus economic shock.

He said: ‘Pakistan economic sentiment is in line with the rest of the world. Confidence fell everywhere and, in most cases, sharply and to the lowest since the survey began in 2009.

‘South Asia, Pakistan in particular, did not show a collapse in confidence in early March. Pakistan was suffering from weak growth prior to the pandemic and will quickly fall into economic contraction.

‘While this survey looks at the economic impact, it is important to remember there is a human cost both now and in the long-term on wellbeing, skills and the risk of redundancy.’

Looking ahead, Michael Taylor concludes: ‘The economic damage in the coming months will be huge. But if appropriate policy action is taken, then conditions for recovery will be in place when the COVID-19 health crisis is substantially over.’

People from all walks of life have been taking responsibility and doing their part during the pandemic. Popular actors, Hira Mani and Mani have also been actively taking part in collecting ration. The couple has been distributing the necessary grocery item to the needy.

However, the couple has always been criticized for their choice of actions in the public eye many time. The criticism rolled out further while both the actors were kind enough to participate in public service in the time of need.

On a video uploaded on Instagram recently, Hira follows Mani around her house while they were assembling and packing the ration bags.

Mani emphasized that the reason why they have been updating their social media while carrying out kind gestures is that they are stars and their lives are very much public.

Watch Video Here:

Hira captioned the video with an Ayah from the Quran, Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord … Quran, 2:274

It is essential these stars use their platform to spread awareness. Just like they upload pictures of traveling in business class or a child’s birthday and other activities.

It’s so heartwarming to see everyone doing their part during this global crisis. The only way we can contain the spread of coronavirus as a nation is if we take individual responsibility.

Countries with ‘Burqa Ban’ Are Now Making Face Masks Compulsory!

masks

Several countries in the past have announced a full ban on niqabs and burqas also known as the ‘burqa ban’.

This ban forbids Muslim women to cover themselves from head to toe and hide their faces when in public.

Over time, many countries have implemented the burqa ban. One of the reasons at the time to call for the ban was the fear of Islamophobia, whereas security and safety have also been a concern in the past.

If not followed, it can lead to a fine or even penalty.

Countries that have implemented the ‘burqa ban’ include:

  • Tunisia
  • Austria
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Belgium
  • Tajikistan
  • Latvia
  • Bulgaria
  • Cameroon
  • Chad
  • Congo-Brazzaville
  • Gabon
  • Netherlands
  • Morocco
  • China

Now, because of the novel coronavirus pandemic slowly gripping the world, as a healthcare precaution, many countries have made it mandatory to wear facemasks when residents leave their homes.

The facemasks prevent the COVID-19 positive patient who may not be aware of it from spreading the infection, and healthy individuals from catching it via skin-to-face contact. Compulsory facemask laws are now being widely adopted in Europe.

Austria, one of the countries that banned the burqa has now made is absolutely compulsory to wear face masks in shops.

Moreover, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, have gone even further, making the wearing of face masks compulsory once you leave home.

In Germany, Jena (eastern city) has announced citizens to cover their faces when shopping or on public transport.

Even America’s CDC health agency has recommended individuals to wear masks or home-made face cloth when going to public places including the pharmacies or even shops.

Austrian Counselor, Sebastian Kurz admitted how the coronavirus has led to an uncalled-for cultural shift as a country that had banned burqas in 2017 is now encouraging its residents to cover their faces.

I am fully aware that masks are something alien to our culture. It’ll be a major change, but it is necessary that we take this step to further reduce the further spread.

Wearing a facemask has not been an easy-going experience for everyone.

I’m not used to it. It’s hard breathing with masks, and it’s hot under there. -Astrid from Salzburg

There is now a possibility that the countries mentioned above that had placed the ban may remove it, understanding the importance of covering oneself, but, time will tell if that will happen or not.

What do you think about the future of burqas? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
