German Firm To Launch Lightweight Aircraft Production In Pakistan

Source: Arab News

In a landmark development for Pakistan’s aviation sector, a German company, Scilair Group, has entered into an agreement with Sky Wings Aviation, a Pakistani firm, to manufacture lightweight aircraft in Pakistan. This partnership is poised to significantly enhance the country’s aviation capabilities, marking a pivotal step forward in the industry.

Launch of Gyrocopter Production

The agreement, which was finalized recently, aims to kickstart the production of lightweight aircraft, specifically Gyrocopters, starting next year. These versatile and efficient aircraft are expected to serve a variety of roles, ranging from air ambulances to agricultural uses.

The first Gyrocopter, manufactured in Germany, is scheduled to arrive in Pakistan by August this year. This event will herald the beginning of local manufacturing, bringing advanced aviation technology and expertise to Pakistan. This development is anticipated to boost the local aviation industry, creating jobs and fostering technological advancements.

Versatile Applications of Gyrocopters

Gyrocopters are known for their lightweight and agile design, which makes them ideal for several critical applications. One of the primary uses is in medical transport. Equipped as air ambulances, Gyrocopters can provide rapid and efficient medical evacuation and transportation, potentially saving countless lives in emergencies.

In agriculture, Gyrocopters can be employed for crop spraying, offering a cost-effective and efficient solution for covering large farmlands. Their ability to hover and maneuver at low altitudes allows for precise application of pesticides and fertilizers, improving crop yields and reducing wastage.

Surveillance and Security

Additionally, Gyrocopters are valuable for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. Their agility and ease of deployment make them suitable for border patrol, wildlife monitoring, and other security-related operations. They also offer a convenient mode of personal transportation, particularly in regions with limited infrastructure.

This partnership is not the only advancement in Pakistan’s aviation sector. In a related development, the Punjab government has recently awarded a contract to Sky Wings Aviation to modernize its Air Ambulance Service. The Karachi-based company secured the tender on April 1st, edging out two other contenders. This initiative will see the introduction of modern planes to enhance the province’s emergency medical services, further underscoring the rapid progress in the aviation industry.

The gaming industry is no stranger to disruption, but Microsoft’s latest move has sent shock-waves through the community. The tech giant plans to release the next installment of the iconic “Call of Duty” franchise directly onto its Xbox Game Pass subscription service. This departure from the traditional model of selling games independently has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions worldwide.

The Evolution Of Gaming Subscriptions

Before we dive into the details, let’s take a moment to appreciate the evolution of gaming subscriptions. Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass, akin to Playstation Plus, offers access to a vast library of games for a monthly fee. It’s a win-win: players get a buffet of titles, and Microsoft secures a steady revenue stream.

Importance Of “Call Of Duty”

“Call of Duty” needs no introduction. This first-person shooter franchise has dominated the gaming landscape for decades. Its intense game-play, gripping narratives, and adrenaline-pumping multiplayer modes have captivated millions. But why would Microsoft choose to release such a blockbuster title on Game Pass?

Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year was a game-changer. Suddenly, the company had the keys to the “Call of Duty” kingdom. The franchise, with its loyal fan base and over $30 billion in lifetime revenue, became Microsoft’s trump card.

Xbox President Sarah Bond recently announced that all first-party Xbox games would launch on Game Pass on their release day. It’s a bold strategy—one that aims to redefine how games are consumed. By adding “Call of Duty” to the mix, Microsoft is doubling down on this vision.

The People Speak-Up And A New Era Begins

As news spread, fans had mixed reactions. Some cheered, thrilled at the prospect of playing the latest “Call of Duty” without an additional purchase. Others expressed concern. Would this impact overall sales? Could it dilute the franchise’s exclusivity?

Microsoft’s move is strategic. By making “Call of Duty” available to Game Pass subscribers, they’re enticing more players to join the ecosystem. It’s a calculated risk—one that could reshape the industry. As the gaming landscape evolves, subscription services like Game Pass are becoming the norm. Microsoft is steering the ship toward a more sustainable future, where accessibility and innovation go hand in hand.

The release of “Call of Duty” on Game Pass isn’t just about convenience; it’s about democratizing gaming. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a newbie, this move invites everyone to the battlefield. Buckle up—the gaming revolution is underway.

Man Transforms Honda Civic Into Lamborghini Hyper-Car

Youtuber with Terzo Millennio

In the world of automotive enthusiasts, dreams often take the form of sleek hyper-cars and futuristic designs. But what if you could turn that dream into reality without breaking the bank? Meet Tanna Dhaval, an Indian YouTuber from Gujarat, who accomplished the seemingly impossible: he transformed a humble 2008 Honda Civic into a jaw-dropping replica of the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio electric concept car—all on a budget of just Rs 12.5 lakh! Which amounts to almost 42 lakhs PKR, but regardless, its a feat on its own!

The Ambitious Journey Begins And The Art Of Jugaar

Dhaval’s journey began with the purchase of a stock Honda Civic 1.8. Armed with determination and creativity, he embarked on a year-long project that would capture the imagination of car lovers worldwide. But how did he manage to achieve this feat?

In Pakistan, the term “jugaad” refers to the art of resourcefulness—making the most of what you have. Dhaval’s transformation was a testament to this spirit. Here’s how he did it:

  1. The Foundation: Dhaval retained the Civic’s engine and accessories, ensuring that the heart of the car remained intact. But the real magic happened when he built a homemade metal-pipe frame to support the new structure.
  2. The Exterior: Crafting the exterior was no small task. Dhaval meticulously designed a fiberglass body that replicated the sharp angles and aggressive lines of the Lamborghini Terzo Millennio. The result? A striking yellow model that turned heads wherever it went.
  3. Ingenious Parts Sourcing: Dhaval scoured scrapyards and workshops for parts. The fuel tank came from a Hyundai Santro, the suspension system from a Suzuki Alto, and the exhaust system from a Benelli 600i motorcycle. Each piece was carefully chosen to fit the puzzle.
  4. Attention to Detail: Dhaval didn’t stop at the bodywork. He added a custom Lamborghini sticker logo on the bonnet, paying homage to the original design. He even incorporated the number “63” at the rear, a nod to British racing driver George Russell.

The Effort Speaks!

Dhaval’s passion project came with a price tag. The metal frame alone cost over almost 3.5 lakh PKR and labor charges added up to around Rs 10 lakh PKR. In total, the transformation cost approximately PKR 42 Lakhs only! But for Dhaval, it was worth every penny as they say.

The video of Dhaval’s creation went viral on social media, leaving viewers in awe. Some praised his craftsmanship and attention to detail, while others marveled at the ingenuity of jugaar. The success of this project underscored the limitless potential of innovation.

Tanna Dhaval’s Honda Civic turned Lamborghini Terzo Millennio is more than just a car—it’s a symbol of what can be achieved with passion, resourcefulness, and a dream. As the engine roars and the wheels turn, it reminds us that sometimes, the most extraordinary journeys begin with an ordinary car.

10 Games From The 90’s Every Pakistani Will Remember Playing

10 Games From The 90’s Every Pakistani Will Remember Playing

If you grew up in the ’90s, I could safely assume that you’re rough and tough. Because there is no denying that you grew up in a time where technology had a bare minimum influence on children and socializing with other kids around the block was the only source of entertainment.

Kids from the 90’s era are the real legends. Here are ten legendary games that you must remember if you grew up in the 90s!

1. Baraf Paani

The more refined form of “Pakran Pakrayi”.

Where once caught, you were transformed to baraf (ice) only to be allowed to run again if someone turned you to Paani.

2. Kho Kho

I miss being unceremoniously pushed out from the line by a loud and vicious ‘Kho’.

It did require a bunch of kids to make this particular game exciting. But man, it was fun.

3. Langri Pala

LOVED IT! It was usually played with one child catching the rest with one leg slightly raised. You had to hop while going after your friends.

4. Pithu Karam

Ahh! What fond memories.

One throw to shatter the tower of stones. Where one team was responsible for keeping the tower down, the other was responsible for building it back up.

5. Hopscotch

Loved hopping on numbered sequence for fun! Kids these days hardly know this game.

6. Dots and Boxes!

It turned into agonizing torture the moment someone completed a considerable number of consecutive boxes by connecting the dots and making the lines.

7. Chupan Chupayi

This was always fun to play around the house, especially if you knew of some right hiding spots.

8. Ludo!

A  game that can burn even the most reliable friendship bridges.

9. Monopoly

‘Rent do,’ ‘mujhse khareed lo yaar’, ‘Yeh mere paise hain, bank ke nhi.’

If you can win a game of monopoly, you can win at anything.

10. Pakram Pakrai

A game that involved a lot of running around and catching others.

Do you have any other games you’d like to add to this list? Let us know in the comments below.

TikTok Launches New AI Content Labeling and Media Literacy Initiatives

TikTok Launches New AI Content Labeling and Media Literacy Initiatives

Pakistan, May 17, 2024 – TikTok is proud to announce significant advancements in AI transparency and media literacy, reinforcing its commitment to safe and responsible content creation. In collaboration with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), TikTok is set to become the first video-sharing platform to utilize Content Credentials technology to automatically label AI-generated content (AIGC) when uploaded from various platforms.

Understanding the potential challenges posed by AI-generated content, TikTok has implemented a robust system to enhance transparency. This initiative includes the automatic labeling of all AIGC using TikTok’s proprietary AI effects. Over the past year, more than 37 million creators have benefited from TikTok’s innovative labeling tools, promoting a clear understanding of content origins.

Furthering its transparency efforts, TikTok will soon extend Content Credentials to all its content, allowing the metadata to remain with the content even when downloaded. This feature enables users and external platforms to verify the authenticity of the content, promoting a universal standard of transparency across the digital landscape.

In partnership with MediaWise and WITNESS, TikTok is launching a series of educational campaigns aimed at enhancing media literacy. These initiatives are designed to empower users to critically assess online information, distinguishing between genuine and misleading AI-generated content. Throughout the year, TikTok, in collaboration with MediaWise, will release a series of 12 videos focused on fostering universal media literacy skills.

Dana Rao, General Counsel and Chief Trust Officer at Adobe, commended TikTok’s efforts.”With TikTok’s vast community of creators and users globally, their involvement in both C2PA and CAI is pivotal. In today’s digital age, ensuring content authenticity is crucial. This partnership marks a significant step towards that goal,” said Dana.

Alex Mahadevan, Director of MediaWise, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Since launching our Teen Fact-Checking Network on TikTok in 2019, we’ve seen significant engagement. We are excited to further empower people to discern fact from fiction online through these new initiatives,” he said.

By joining the Adobe-led Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), TikTok is at the forefront of adopting industry standards that foster content authenticity. This collaborative effort is expected to gradually increase the amount of auto-labeled AIGC on TikTok, enhancing user experience and trust.

New Study Uncovers Unlikely Secret To A Happy Marriage

Happy Marriage
New Study Uncovers Unlikely Secret To A Happy Marriage

What makes love, and marriage, last? This question has been the focus of clinical psychologists John and Julie Gottman for decades. They have dedicated years to studying the dynamics of successful relationships.

The Gottmans interviewed over 3,000 couples and followed some for up to 20 years. After extensive research, they concluded that there is no set formula for a long-lasting partnership. However, happy couples do share certain traits that provide a solid foundation for their relationships.

The Importance of Making Repairs in Marriage

One key quality of successful couples is their ability to “make repairs.” This means acknowledging and apologizing for mistakes instead of letting them linger. Julie Gottman explained, “The couples who were successful a few years down the road were the ones who made repairs. They made repairs when their partner didn’t receive a bid for a connection or if they said the wrong thing.”

You don’t need grand gestures like flowers or expensive dinners to show your love. A simple, kind comment can be more than enough. John Gottman shared an example from one of his clients, who said, “Well now that we’ve destroyed each other’s personalities, how about a piece of cheesecake.”

Positive Interactions and Avoiding Red Flags

Another crucial factor for a happy marriage is maintaining positive expression, especially during conflicts. The Gottmans suggest that couples resolve their issues within 15 minutes and aim for at least five positive interactions for every negative one during conflicts. This 5:1 ratio of positive to negative interactions helps keep the relationship healthy.

The Gottmans also advise couples to avoid “red flag” phrases. Open and honest communication is essential. Criticizing your partner can lead to a negative perspective setting in.

In conclusion, while there is no magic formula for a lasting relationship, making repairs, maintaining positive interactions, and avoiding harmful communication can significantly contribute to a happy marriage.

Pakistani Student Develops Brain-Controlled Wheelchair

Source: Al Aswat

Two students from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Mardan have developed a prototype of an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based wheelchair that can be controlled through brain signals. This groundbreaking invention aims to significantly improve the quality of life for quadriplegic patients.

Minds Behind the Project

Mohammad Dawood and Mohammad Faizan Akhtar, under the supervision of Dr. Jawad Ali, have designed and built this advanced wheelchair prototype. The device utilizes an EEG headset to interpret brain signals, enabling the user to control the wheelchair’s movements—forward, backward, left, and right—simply by thinking about them.

The wheelchair system comprises an EEG headset and a battery-powered wheelchair capable of carrying loads up to 250 kilograms. The headset detects the brain’s electrical activity when the user thinks about moving in a particular direction. These signals are then transmitted to an Arduino microcontroller, which processes the commands and activates the motors accordingly. The wheelchair also features a physical joystick and a Bluetooth gadget for additional control options.

Overcoming Mobility Challenges

Mohammad Dawood highlighted the everyday challenges faced by wheelchair users, especially the elderly and partially disabled, in operating conventional electric and mechanical wheelchairs. “Our goal is to design a system that receives signals from the brain and moves accordingly. By the system, we mean accumulator sensors. The sensor converts the raw form of a signal into an electrical signal. We can control the wheelchair through different brain waves such as alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and theta,” Dawood explained.

Mohammad Faizan Akhtar emphasized the potential impact of their innovation on the lives of patients. “This wheelchair will make life easier for patients by providing a more intuitive and effortless way to move around. It can be used by any person with an active brain,” Akhtar noted. The design aims to provide greater independence to individuals who rely on wheelchairs, reducing their dependency on others for mobility.

Institutional Support and Future Prospects

UET Mardan Vice-Chancellor Prof. Imran Khan praised the students’ efforts and the potential of their project. He remarked, “Such projects require very little effort to become commercial products.” Prof. Khan reiterated the university administration’s commitment to supporting student innovation by providing the necessary facilities and resources.

As the project moves closer to commercialization, it stands as a testament to the determination of UET Mardan’s students and their dedication to improving human life through technology.
