Kuwait Visa Policy for Pakistan: Restrictions to Soften

Kuwaiti Emir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said in a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi that he will personally try and resolve the visa issues Pakistan’s nationals are facing.

He assured Mr. Qureshi that all possible cooperation will be extended in reviewing and softening the visa policy for Pakistan.

Their meeting was held to discuss and further improve Kuwait-Pakistan economic relation and to encourage peace and stability amongst the two nations.

Mr. Qureshi presented special letters from President Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan to the Emir and said:

 We are concerned about rising tension between the United States and Iran. Pakistan would always be supportive of peace and stability, we would be more than happy to facilitate in de-escalation. 

Moreover, Mr. Qureshi thanked the Emir for raising his voice against human rights violations in occupied Kashmir, while also expressing gratitude for supporting Islamabad’s stance during the recent Pak-India tension.

A workforce consisting of above a 100,000 Pakistani workers is already playing their part in the growth and development of Kuwait, the Minister stressed.

Mr. Qureshi also expressed that the PTI government is determined to be more welcoming to foreign investors in the future, as there are numerous investment opportunities in Pakistan’s education, energy, agriculture, health, and construction sectors for foreign investors.

In response, the Kuwaiti delegation hinted their plans regarding investing heavily in Pakistan in the coming future.

Instagram Influencers & Bloggers’ Personal Data Exposed Through Unsecured Database

An unsecured database with contact information for millions of influencers and blogger accounts from Instagram was reportedly found online.

The information on the database included phone numbers and email addresses for celebrities, influencers, and brands.

Reportedly, the database was hosted on Amazon Web Services and left without a password. It contained as many as 49 million records.

Celebrities Take Action Against Iqra Aziz After She Unfollows All on Instagram

Some accounts had excessive information such as the location of accounts as well. Each record also had estimated the worth of the account, based on followers, engagement and reach.

Anurag Sen, a security researcher was the one who stumbled upon the database.

We’re looking into the issue to understand if the data described — including email and phone numbers — was from Instagram or from other sources. We are also inquiring with Chtrbox to understand where this data came from and how it became publicly available. -An Instagram spokesperson told Engadget

Facebook’s policy prohibits the scraping of data on Instagram, however, it is unclear how this database was obtained and how the security researcher came across it.

Google’s Ban on Huawei Temporarily Lifted!

The United State’s decision to blacklist Huawei came with major consequences. Not only did the technology sector felt the tumbling of stocks, but customers are also worried about what will happen next.

Given the existing trade war between the US and China, the decision to blacklist Huawei is just adding more anxiety to the relationship between the two countries. However, the US government has now decided to ‘temporarily lift’ the ban on the country.

This means that Google has halted the restriction of Android access to Huawei. This means that Intel and Qualcomm are now also on standby. Yesterday, all three tech giants announced that they will abide by the law, thus Google had taken back the Android access from Huawei.

CNBC reported that the U.S. Commerce Department will allow Huawei Technologies to purchase American-made goods in order to maintain existing networks and provide software updates to existing Huawei handsets.

However, the company is still prohibited from purchasing any American parts and components needed to manufacture new products and smartphones without licensed approvals which are likely to be denied in the near future.

The authorization, which intends on providing telecommunication providers who are relying on Huawei equipment to find other means to operate in a span of 90-days.

“The goal seems to be to prevent internet, computer and cell phone systems from crashing,” said Washington lawyer Kevin Wolf, a former Commerce Department official. “This is not a capitulation. This is housekeeping.”

Although Google did not give any official statement, however, an individual has shared that the plan to cut Huawei’s access has been halted. The Commerce Department said it will evaluate whether to extend the exemptions beyond 90 days.

The US Commerce Department blacklisted 69 entities including Huawei to the export list, making it almost next to impossible for Chinese companies to manufacture their goods in the States.

The US has accused Huawei of allegedly stealing trade secrets from T-Mobile. According to the lawsuits, Huawei has spent years with the aim to steal T-Mobile’s testing technology codenamed Tappy. Furthermore, the US government has alleged that Huawei had promised bonuses to employees in exchange for confidential information.

Now we have to see which direction does the iceberg tip towards and the fate of Huawei in the future.

The diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh have suffered a heavy blow after Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina’s advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury confirmed that the country has stopped issuing visas to Pakistanis.

According to Times Now, Bangladesh has taken this step as a precautionary measure and this is not a permanent ban.

However, Bangladesh’s visa across all categories have been reportedly halted for Pakistanis.

According to various reports, the move was followed by a delay in the renewal of visa of a diplomat from Bangladesh.

However, Dhaka has been refusing to accept the nomination of the new high commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh for the past year.

Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac presents ‘The Seeming Endless Path of Memory’; an exhibition of international award-winning artist Imran Qureshi’s new work, in Paris, France.

Imran Qureshi’s practice is rooted in the tradition of 16th-century Mughal miniature art, encompassing figurative and abstract works on paper, painting and site-specific installation. Indeed, the exhibition title, The Seeming Endless Path of Memory, along with the titles of the works on display, echo the words of Pakistani poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz (1911-1984) which are prevailing throughout Qureshi’s work. They reveal various social and cultural connotations, and subtly reflect the threat of violence as a continuous motif.

Resonating throughout the exhibition is the artist’s exploration of the infinite through the figure of the fold: the screen-like structure of his panel painting with dark layers of red or blue gradually transforming into light gold, the subtle changes of tonality appearing as one continuous course of action.

Elsewhere, Qureshi is drawing upon the tradition of action painting by welcoming gravity and improvisation into the artistic process: through direct physical engagement with the canvas, the act of painting becomes a performative part of the painting’s expression. Throughout Qureshi’s practice, the artist reflects on the symbolic meaning of numbers.

The exhibition is further featuring a prominent series of miniature paintings depicting the Story of Two through finely painted trees that show a subtle unity and separation, akin to arteries of life juxtaposed against the self-portraits taking the position of the sole observer.

In various works throughout this exhibition, the artist is illustrating the historical idea of ‘heaven’ in opposition to violence and nature, an idea that proves crucial in the understanding of Imran Qureshi’s artistic universe.

Imran Qureshi’s works are modulated through a socio-political reflection on the precariousness and inherent violence of the contemporary world. Ultimately, whether presented in large-scale or in miniature formats, his works tend towards an aesthetic, religious and spiritual inquiry on the proximity of creation and destruction and recreation in all aspects of life – engaging the viewer on both a visceral and spiritual level.

SOC Films, helmed by the two-time Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, announces the launch of their latest animated series “Shattering the Silence”, which focuses on raising awareness about social issues faced by children in Pakistan today.

An SOC Films initiative, the 4-part animated series is a social awareness campaign, in Urdu, which aims to critically engage audiences, and children specifically, with real-life stories of child abuse and to educate them with the corresponding laws, the resources which can be accessed and the steps which can be taken if they, or any other children they know of, are forced into situations of marriage, labor, trafficking or physical abuse.

The first animated short-film from Shattering the Silence is titled “Cheena Hua Bachpan” which explores trafficking through the widely occurring but largely overlooked issue of children working as domestic laborers. The story is told through the character of a young girl trafficked into working at an influential family’s home, where she was deprived of basic human rights such as education.

The film explores how and why this situation came to be legally defined as trafficking, as well recounting the emotional, mental and physical effects of working long hours as a domestic laborer, and the resources and laws which ultimately protected and safeguarded her well-being.

Pakistan Bound Online Remittances Set to Surge in the Next Two Weeks of Ramadan

Data from leading online money transfer service WorldRemit shows that the week before Eid-ul-Fitr was the company’s busiest period for transfers to Pakistan in 2018.

The State Bank of Pakistan recently revealed that Overseas Pakistanis sent home nearly $17.9 billion in remittances during the first 10 months of FY19 (July to April), a growth of nearly 8.5% compared to the same time last year.

Remittance inflows are likely to further increase over the coming weeks as millions of Overseas Pakistanis send money home to contribute to their family’s Eid-al-Fitr celebrations.

In 2018, WorldRemit saw the highest volume of transfers to Pakistan during the week commencing 4th June (the week before Eid-ul-Fitr). The number of transfers made during this period was 44% higher than the average week that year, highlighting that Ramadan is an important time for the Pakistani diaspora to send money home to support their loved ones and communities.

Eid-ul-Fitr 2019: 5 Special Trains Announced for Passengers in June

Federal Minister for Pakistan Railways (PR), Shaikh Rasheed Ahmed announced in a press conference that five special trains will be run for passengers on Eid-ul-Fitr 2019.

The aim is to make it easier for people to travel to other cities for celebrating Eid with their loved ones.

As per the schedule, the first special Eid train will leave Karachi City railway station on June 12 at 11 am and will arrive at Peshawar Cantt on June 13 at 10:30 pm.

The second special train will leave Quetta railway station on June 12 at 11:30 am and via Lahore route will arrive at Rawalpindi on June 13 at 8 pm.

The third special train will leave from Karachi Cantt railway station on June 13 at 11 am and via Faisalabad route will reach Lahore on June 14 at 10 am.

The fourth special train will leave Rawalpindi railway station on June 14 at 7 am and via Bhakkar will reach Multan at 10:30 pm on the same day.

The fifth special train will leave Multan Cantt railway station on June 19 at 7 am and via Mianwali will arrive at Rawalpindi at 10:15 pm on the same day.

Earlier this year, Pakistan Railways introduced ten new trains across Pakistan to facilitate the citizens in just first 100 days of the present government on the direction of PR Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad.

The minister also mentioned that anti-encroachment attempts will be made in the coming 15 days, and that he plans to visit Sukkur on Wednesday for an inspection of the railway track.

He told the media:

“We will have a meeting on the KCR on Monday (today) where we will review all areas falling in its route” 

“We will assist the Sindh government in every way possible in achieving this task as we are its well-wisher”

Oil & Gas Reserves in Arabian Sea: Efforts for Discovery Reportedly Failed

Pakistan along with Prime Minister Imran Khan has high hopes of oil and gas reserves to be discovered in the county. However, after countless efforts, it seems that everything has gone in vain.

Unfortunately, the expected reserves in the Arabian Sea were not found and the exploration mission has now come to a halt off the coast of Karachi as drillers have already dug 550 meters deep into the sea.

Previously, on Sunday, news had been shared all across social-media that oil and gas reserves had been found, however, celebrations were then stopped after an official statement confirm no such reserves were discovered.

Oil & Gas Reserves Reportedly Discovered as Offshore Drilling Near Karachi Concludes

Till date, 18 attempts have been made, all of them unsuccessful despite positive and encouraging data from each of the drillings.

 We have only drilled 18 holes for oil. Only the 18th attempt. India had offshore discoveries after 43rd attempt, Libya after 58th, and Norway, another country which nobody believed could have reserves, drilled 78 holes between 1954 to 1963 and then hit it big -Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, told Gulf News

The International Cricket Council today confirmed the schedule of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be staged in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July.

England will open the tournament at The Oval on 30 May when they will take on South Africa, while Australia will launch their title defense on 1 June against the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier champions Afghanistan in a day/night match in Bristol.

Reigning ICC Champions Trophy winners and former champions Pakistan will start their campaign against the ICC World Twenty20 winners and two-time former champions the Windies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on 31 May.

India, the 1983 and 2011 world champions who also won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 in England and Wales, will play their first match on 5 June against South Africa at the Hampshire Bowl in Southampton. Their feature match against traditional rivals Pakistan will be at Old Trafford in Manchester on 16 June.

Old Trafford in Manchester and Edgbaston in Birmingham will stage the two semi-finals on 9 and 11 July, while Lord’s will play host to a World Cup final for the fifth time, on 14 July. All these three matches will have reserve days.

Eleven world-class venues will be used in the 46-day tournament in which each side will play the other once in a single-league format with the top four sides after 45 matches progressing to the semi-finals.

Old Trafford in Manchester will host maximum six matches, while Edgbaston in Birmingham, Hampshire Bowl in Southampton, Lord’s and The Oval (both in London), Trent Bridge in Nottingham will stage five matches each. Cardiff Wales Stadium in Cardiff and Headingley in Leeds have been allocated four matches each and County Ground Bristol in Bristol, County Ground Taunton in Taunton and The Riverside in Chester-le-Street have got three matches each.

We know from previous ICC events that every country will be proudly supported at each of the venues creating an exceptional atmosphere and a real celebration of the game.”

Pakistan’s final 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 by chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The squad consists of:

Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicketkeeper and captain), Asif Ali, Babar Azam, Wahab Riaz, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Mohammad Hasnain, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, and Shoaib Malik

According to Geo, Junaid Khan and Faheem Ashraf were dropped from the squad in favor of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz. Asif Ali also replaced Abid Ali in the side. Shahdab Khan who was unable to play in the series against England due to illness was retained in the squad.

 The bowling unit during the England ODIs has not clicked as anticipated or expected; if we have at our disposal two vastly experienced pace duo of Amir and Wahab, then it will be foolish not to include them -chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq

The news of Huawei losing its Android license with immediate effect has startled the technology sector in the US and around the globe.

Google has not cut ties with Huawei and took it to Twitter to give users an update about its halting of the Android license for the smartphone manufacturer.

This comes after Trump blacklisted the company last month, Google mentions in its official statement that it is simply complying with the law.

Huawei Pakistan users do not have to worry as this new development between the brand and Google will not impact current users.

Android has already shared in their statement given above that the existing Huawei devices will not be impacted, however, it is to be noted that the brand had recently rolled out their high-end flagships including the P30, P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro and others.

After Google cut off all ties with Huawei and halted their Android license, Intel and Qualcomm have also notified their employees that they will not supply their components to Huawei until further notice.

Huawei’s Backup-OS

Huawei has developed operating software as a precaution. The company had mentioned that it has taken this step in case if measures were needed to be taken for both smartphones and computers.

According to South China Morning Post, Huawei had started building its own OS after a US investigation into Huawei and ZTE Corp in 2012. An individual who was familiar with the matter had said in the report.

Huawei has vehemently denied the US charges.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer had announced on 7th March that it will file a lawsuit against the US government in a bid to overturn the US federal ban on supplying its gear to the federal agencies under National Defence Authorisation Act (NDAA).
Ryan Koontz, an analyst with Rosenblatt Securities Inc said, “Huawei is heavily dependent on U.S. semiconductor products and would be seriously crippled without supply of key U.S. components, and the US ban may cause China to delay its 5G network build until the ban is lifted, having an impact on many global component suppliers”.

Coca-Cola Norway recently introduced their new Ramadan Campaign in the form of a new addition to their logo.

The gesture has tugged at many heartstrings and for all the right reasons.

By adding the Islamic crescent moon symbol to their iconic logo, the brand aims to commemorate the holy month of Ramzan for the Norwegian Muslim community.

Norway consists of a fast-growing Muslim community, which makes up 5.7% of the population now.

Naturally, they are a minority in Norway, and feel happy to be acknowledged so lovingly by a multinational brand like Coca-Cola.

In the past, too, they have issued specially themed editions of their product for the holiday season.

However, this time their new holiday approach means to promote inclusivity for Muslims.

When asked the reason behind their new holiday approach by The Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, CocaCola’s Marketing Manager responded:

In Muslim countries we have a long history of highlighting Ramadan, just as in Norway we have a tradition of Christmas campaigns.

Now for the first time in Norway, we want to celebrate Ramadan together with Norwegian Muslims, says Johanna Kosanovic, marketing manager in Norway.

They were also asked, apart from selling more soda, what do you want to accomplish with this campaign?

We want to show our clear stand on diversity and how important it is to society. Diversity and inclusion have always been important to Coca-Cola.

For example, many people do not know that in the 1950s we were actively engaged in the civil rights movement and that Coca-Cola was the first to front women in advertising campaigns.

Muslim Labour Party politician, Fatima Almanea called the campaign “very positive,”.

We can look at it as part of equal treatment. In addition to that, she said “We are already familiar with their big campaigns for Christmas, so it is only natural that they undertake this initiative.

A marketing and branding professor at the Norwegian Business School, Nina Marianne Iversen also praised the campaign.

another motive for Coca-Cola is that they want to show themselves as a responsible social actor by linking the brand to diversity and inclusion.

The brand has been receiving praise from people around the world.

However, the newest update from PUBG will now restrict some fans and even some of their best players from playing the game.

Reportedly, the game is reminding young players that the age restriction to play PUBG is 13+. Players who proceed to play will be shown an advisory notice when they begin gameplay.

Kids below the age of 13 will need a parent or guardian’s permission to play. Whereas in countries like Germany the minimum age for PUBG is 18+.

If you are a Game of Thrones fan you are no stranger to how bad season 8 has been.

It has destroyed all expectations and ruined the storyline that had been building up for the past 10 years.

A story that had kept the entire world on hook deserved better!

The showrunners David Benioff and Weiss, in trying to end the story in 6 episodes, hurried it so much that one is not able to cope with what has been thrown their way.

The first episode finally reunited most characters that had never met, new alliances were formed as armies of Daenerys and the North realized the threat is near. The second episode showed the preparation for the war with White Walkers. The the third episode showed the war that had been talked about since the first season. And it all ended in just one episode.

After which the show creators decided that they need only one episode to justify Dany taking on her father’s mantle and becoming the mad queen herself.

Game of Thrones Cast Salaries: Here’s How Much They Are Earning Per Episode

Fans have been freaking out scrambled all over trying to grasp at what has happened to one of the greatest shows!

But a change.org user with the name Dylan.D has taken upon himself to assemble the scrambled fans and start a petition to “remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers”

Dylan.D states:

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!

The petition has already gathered more than 720,000 signatures with the number increasing by the second. Let’s see if the showrunners will take notice of and actually give us the remake we deserve.
