Key Battles To Watch In India-Pakistan World Cup Showdown

key-battles-to-watch-in-india-pakistan-world-cup-showdown

In the highly anticipated World Cup 2023 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan, several key matchups could play a crucial role in determining the outcome.

Let’s delve into four pivotal battles that are set to unfold on the grand stage of the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Rohit Sharma vs Shaheen Shah Afridi

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, has faced challenges from Shaheen Shah Afridi’s menacing left-arm pace in recent encounters. Shaheen got the better of Rohit during their Asia Cup face-off, exploiting the opener’s vulnerability to lack of footwork. The rivalry ignited at the 2021 T20 World Cup, where Shaheen dismissed Rohit for a duck in the opening over, displaying his lethal combination of speed and swing. Rohit, however, returned with caution in their subsequent meeting in Colombo, showcasing resilience while still managing to keep the bowler on his toes.

Virat Kohli vs Haris Rauf

A high-stakes encounter between India and Pakistan unfolded when Virat Kohli squared off against Haris Rauf during a tense chase at the T20 World Cup in Melbourne last year. With India needing 31 runs off the last 18 balls, Kohli exhibited nerves of steel, smashing Rauf for two crucial sixes, sending the MCG crowd into a frenzy. The first six was a powerful straight drive, while the next was a fine-leg flick, propelling India towards victory. This face-off promises another riveting showdown in Ahmedabad.

Babar Azam vs Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah got a taste of Babar Azam’s batting prowess during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE. Azam took on the Indian attack, including the yorker maestro Bumrah, guiding Pakistan to an emphatic 10-wicket win in Dubai. However, two years later, Bumrah and company displayed their growth, dismissing Pakistan for 128 in a commanding 228-run triumph in an Asia Cup Super Four clash. Bumrah’s knack for beating Azam’s bat adds an intriguing layer to this contest.

Iftikhar Ahmed vs Kuldeep Yadav

Iftikhar Ahmed, a versatile middle-order batsman, demonstrated his ability to anchor or attack during the Asia Cup. However, India’s spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, thwarted Iftikhar’s innings with a sharp caught-and-bowled effort. Kuldeep’s left-arm wrist spin proved formidable, securing an impressive 5-25 in that match, propelling India to a comprehensive 228-run victory. Iftikhar’s role on Saturday will be crucial in handling the spinners and maintaining an aggressive scoring rate in the middle overs.

FIFA Bars Otis Khan From Pakistan’s World Cup 2026 Qualifier

fifa-bars-otis-khan-from-pakistans-world-cup-qualifier

FIFA has declared Pakistan’s England-born forward, Otis Khan, ineligible to participate in the first leg of Pakistan’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Cambodia.

This decision comes even though Khan possesses a valid Pakistani passport. Khan’s eligibility was primarily based on his paternal grandfather, Kanwar Jamil Mohammed Khan, who was born in Delhi but later migrated to Pakistan after the partition in 1947, eventually settling in Manchester.

Otis Khan, a promising winger who recently made a move from Leyton Orient to Grimsby, had high hopes of donning the Pakistani jersey in the crucial match against Cambodia on Thursday.

However, while he was being interviewed by FIFA’s website to preview the game, Khan received a notification of his ineligibility this week.

The news left him understandably disheartened, and he expressed his feelings through a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

PFF’s response to the ineligibility of Otis Khan

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) promptly released a statement addressing the issue. They expressed their hope for a positive resolution and clarified the situation.

According to the PFF, FIFA’s decision regarding Khan’s eligibility is still pending. They further emphasized their active collaboration with FIFA to comprehensively address the matter.

The statement underscored Otis Khan’s significance as a key player in the team and commended his distinguished representation of Pakistan.

It’s worth noting that as per the Pakistani government, individuals who migrated from territories in the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent before the commencement of the Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951, are granted citizenship in Pakistan.

Notably, the first leg between Pakistan and Cambodia concluded in a goalless draw. This result marks the end of Pakistan’s 12-match losing streak, bringing a glimmer of hope to the team and its fans. The second leg, set to be played in Islamabad on October 17, holds great anticipation as Pakistan steps onto their home ground for the first time in competitive fixtures since 2011.

Zainab Abbas Addresses Departure From India Amidst Controversy

zainab-abbas-addresses-departure-from-india-amidst-controversy

Pakistani sports presenter, Zainab Abbas, recently commented on her departure from India, prompted by a complaint about her past statements.

Zainab Abbas was in India for the World Cup 2023 but left on October 9, citing personal reasons sparking a debate on social media.

Amidst all the noise about her being deported, she opened up on her official X (formerly Twitter) account with a lengthy post.

Zainab Abbas clarified that she wasn’t asked to leave or deported, but felt intimidated by the online reaction. She went on to apologize for any hurt caused by her previous posts and affirmed they do not represent her current values. Additionally, she thanked those who showed concern during this period.

Zainab reported on Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands on October 6 in Hyderabad, India, and was due to cover other Pakistan fixtures as well. However, after an Indian lawyer filed a complaint about her old tweets, she faced substantial backlash on social media, leading to an early return.

In response to the situation, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch criticized New Delhi for the unnecessary controversy surrounding Abbas.

“The case against Zainab Abbas on unnecessary tweets is not the right action. Zainab is being dragged into an unjustified case,” said the spokesperson in response to a question during her weekly press briefing.

She emphasized that as the host of the World Cup, India bears the responsibility of providing a secure environment for all teams involved.

Sajal Ali Reacts To Mohib Mirza’s ‘Mardana Kamzori’ Video

Pakistani actor Mohib Mirza is the recent person to join the bandwagon of content creators with his new awareness show “Dude Ka Dude, Pani Ka Pani”.

Mohib Mirza, unlike Ahmed Ali Butt’s “Excuse Me,” Momin Saqib’s “Had Kardi,” Imran Ashraf’s “MazaaqRaat,” and Tabish Hashmi’s “Hansna Mana Hai” hasn’t needed to invite a celebrity guest.

Mohib walks the audience through some critical yet overlooked issues in commentary style and uses some nasty puns to put his point across.

However, the content in the second video is as catchy as the title “Mardana Kamzori.” Since you’re reading this, it means you also fell for the clickbait. Apologies for bursting your bubble, but the video has little to do with erectile dysfunction.

The video is more of a disclaimer for those who are better off without the extra lengths they think they have to go to feel secure. “There’s more to a man than just banana power,” Mohib warns his viewers.

Mohib also has a public service message for young men who have just hit puberty.

The reaction to his content was even more amusing as his fans lauded him for addressing such issues.

Sajal Ali and Ali Safina also encouraged the actor-turned-content creator on social media.

Here’s the full video!

Phones With Self-Healing Displays To Arrive In The Next Five Years

Source::CNET

In its recent tech predictions for 2024 and beyond, CCS Insight has stirred excitement by forecasting the arrival of smartphones with self-healing displays. These futuristic devices are set to transform the way we perceive and interact with our indispensable gadgets.

Self-Healing Displays: How They Work

The groundbreaking self-healing technology at the heart of these displays relies on a “nano coating” applied to the surface of the smartphone screen. This nano coating possesses the remarkable ability to react when scratched, interacting with the air to automatically fill in any imperfections. While this might sound like science fiction, it’s a concept firmly grounded in the world of materials science and engineering.

Smartphones with 'self-healing' displays will arrive within five years, analysts predict | The West Australian
Source: The West Australian

The concept of self-healing displays is not entirely new. Tech companies have been exploring this fascinating technology for several years. LG, for instance, was one of the early pioneers, introducing a smartphone with a “self-healing” back cover in 2013. While the precise workings of this technology remained undisclosed, it hinted at the potential of materials that could repair themselves.

The Promise of Minimal Repairs

While the idea of self-healing displays is captivating, it’s crucial to manage expectations. These displays are not intended to magically restore shattered screens. Instead, their primary purpose is to autonomously repair minor cosmetic scratches, offering users a more seamless and hassle-free smartphone experience.

Bringing self-healing displays to the masses comes with a set of challenges. Companies must invest significantly in research and development to perfect the technology and ensure it’s suitable for large-scale production. Marketing and educating consumers about the capabilities and limitations of self-healing displays are also essential steps on this journey.

Beyond Self-Healing Displays

While self-healing displays hold immense promise, the tech industry doesn’t stop there. Companies continue to explore new frontiers in smartphone technology. For example, Motorola recently unveiled a rollable concept smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This innovative device extends vertically when pushed upward, demonstrating the industry’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of display technology.

Samsung’s Folding Evolution

Samsung is another major player in the field of advanced displays, with its folding Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 phones. These devices are designed to endure hundreds of thousands of folding cycles over their lifetime, offering users an unprecedented level of durability.

The future of technology is a constantly evolving landscape, and self-healing smartphone displays are just one example of the exciting developments on the horizon. As we eagerly anticipate these innovative devices, it’s essential to appreciate how human ingenuity and persistence continue to drive progress, providing solutions to everyday challenges.

Armeena Khan Thinks Pakistani Cricket Team Should Show Some Self Respect

The ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023 recently sparked outrage in Pakistan due to difficulties faced by media personnel and fans in obtaining visas for event coverage.

The situation drew national attention and provoked a strong response from prominent figures, with actress and activist Armeena Khan at the forefront.

Pakistani actress, Armeena Khan, renowned for her vocal advocacy, didn’t hold back either and took to social media on Wednesday morning.

She called upon the Pakistani cricket team to show some self-respect, protesting that the green shirts were purely there to be embarrassed and humiliated and must withdraw from the tournament.

Armeena Khan’s tweet came just two days before a recent announcement on Thursday morning, which declared that visas for PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf and several media personnel have now been approved.

As many as 60 Pakistani journalists will cover the world cup, facing stringent visa checks because pakistan is on the Prior Reference Category (PRC) list.

Their primary assignment will be to cover the highly anticipated cricket match between arch-rivals Pakistan and India, scheduled for October 14th at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

This development comes after two crucial matches, Pakistan vs. Netherlands and Pakistan vs. Sri Lanka, which deprived our media persons and fans from adequate media coverage since the start of the ODI World Cup on October 5th.

Prior to the approval of these visas, the PCB Chief Zaka Ashraf met with the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan to press for expedited measures with the Indian Home Ministry and the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to resolve this longstanding matter.

The discrimination faced by Pakistani journalists and fans raise concerns about the treatment that will be faced throughout the tournament, as no other participating countries in the ICC matches held in India have experienced similar obstacles.

The highly-anticipated Pak vs. India match is on 14th October which will bring the two countries face to face on the ground.

3 Fastest Batters To Reach 1000 ODI World Cup Runs

3-fastest-batters-to-reach-1000-odi-world-cup-runs

Rohit Sharma reached a significant milestone when he became the fastest batter to score 1000 runs in World Cup history on October 11 during India’s World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.

With this achievement, he became the fourth Indian player to surpass the coveted landmark of 1000 ODI World Cup runs.

A total of 23 players have achieved the remarkable feat of scoring over 1000 runs in the World Cup, and this number is expected to grow as the tournament progresses.

The legendary West Indies batsman, Sir Viv Richards, was the pioneer in this regard, achieving this milestone in 1987.

Let us dive right into the batters who reached the landmark in the fewest innings.

Rohit Sharma and David Warner – 19 innings

Rohit Sharma and David Warner jointly hold the title of the fastest players to reach 1000 ODI World Cup runs, both achieving this feat in 19 innings.

Warner accomplished this feat during Australia’s World Cup 2023 opener against India in Chennai, where he made 41 runs off 52 balls.

Source: Cricinfo

In the 2019 World Cup, both Rohit and Warner led the run-scoring charts, with Warner finishing just one run behind Rohit’s total.

Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers – 20 innings

Sachin Tendulkar was the second player in World Cup history to cross the 1000-run mark in 1999 during a high-stakes match against Pakistan in Manchester.

It took him just 20 innings to reach this significant landmark, a record that remained unchallenged for 24 years until David Warner surpassed it.

Former South Africa skipper AB de Villiers also achieved this milestone, accomplishing it during his 58-ball 77 against Pakistan in Auckland during the 2015 World Cup.

De Villiers holds the distinction of being the fastest South African player to reach 1000 ODI World Cup runs.

Viv Richards and Sourav Ganguly – 21 innings

Sir Viv Richards, the Windies cricketing legend, was the first player to accumulate more than 1000 runs in the history of the tournament during 1987 edition.

He held the record for being the quickest batter to reach this milestone in his farewell tournament, a distinction he maintained for 12 years until Sachin Tendulkar surpassed it.

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, like Richards, played 21 World Cup innings in his career. Intriguingly, both iconic cricketers achieved the 1000-run mark in their final innings of the prestigious tournament.

Shoaib Malik Aims To Surpass Chris Gayle’s T20 Run Record

shoaib-malik-aims-to-surpass-chris-gayles-t20-run-record

Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has set his sights on breaking the record for most T20 runs held by the West Indian legend Chris Gayle.

In a recent interview on a local sports show, Malik confirmed his participation in this year’s National T20 Cup.

When probed about his motivation, the 41-year-old revealed his ambition to eclipse Gayle’s T20 run tally.

He stated, “First, I love playing [cricket] immensely. Second, as I’ve mentioned before, I aspire to surpass Chris Gayle’s record for the most runs in T20 cricket. To achieve this, I need around 1800 more runs. So, I plan to keep playing for a few more years.”

Currently, Shoaib Malik requires 1874 runs to etch his name in history. Presently, he boasts 12,688 runs in 478 T20 innings, while Gayle holds 14,562 runs in 455 innings. Given Malik’s unwavering commitment to fitness and the game, it wouldn’t be surprising if he continued to excel in T20 cricket and ultimately eclipsed Gayle’s record.

Remarkably, Malik has been a stalwart of Pakistani cricket, with an international career spanning nearly 24 years since his debut in October 1999 against West Indies in Sharjah. His enduring legacy includes 287 one-day matches, wherein he amassed 7534 runs at an average of 34.55 and secured 158 wickets.

While Shoaib Malik’s Test career was relatively brief, featuring 35 matches, he demonstrated his prowess by accumulating 1898 runs at an average of 35.14, with a career-best score of 245 against England in 2015 in the UAE. He also claimed 32 wickets during this period.

Rohit Sharma Shatters Gayle’s International Sixes Record

Indian captain Rohit Sharma surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle and broke the record for the most sixes in international cricket during India’s second World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan in Delhi yesterday.

Rohit Sharma went into the match with 551 sixes in 452 innings. He emphatically went on to hit two sixes in consecutive overs bowled by left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi. In the ninth over, he smashed an astounding 85-meter six against Naveen-ul-Haq, surpassing Gayle’s record of 553 sixes. He hit a total of five sixes in the match.

Chris Gayle achieved this feat in 2021 after 551 innings, spanning over 22 years. In contrast, Rohit surpassed him in only his 473rd inning, in his 16th year.

Sharma and Gayle stand as the only players with over 500 sixes in international cricket, as Shahid Afridi (476) and the New Zealand duo of Brendon McCullum (398) and Martin Guptill (383) trail far behind.

Following a duck in the previous match against Australia, Rohit made a blazing start in Delhi, reaching his half-century in just 30 balls.

Australia has been at the receiving end of his six-hitting prowess, with Rohit hitting a staggering 121 sixes against them across all formats. This constitutes nearly a quarter of his overall tally. His average is over 1.5 sixes per match against the Kangaroos. In terms of total numbers, West Indies (88), Sri Lanka (78), and New Zealand (68) come next.

Rohit Sharma also secured another monumental record by becoming the fastest Indian to reach 1000 runs in men’s ODI World Cups.

He achieved this milestone in only his 19th inning in the tournament. This puts him on par with David Warner as the joint-fastest to reach this landmark, and he now holds the title of the fastest Indian, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 20 innings.

When it comes to driving in Karachi, it is considered a whole other skill on its own. It might as well be something that people can add to their resumes. A person must develop a high sense of patience and endurance to be able to go from Point A to Point B in Karachi. Since the growth of the city is quite exponential, it is hard for the infrastructure to keep up at times. Traffic jams are a common sight in the city.

However, there are ways that you can develop such endurance while doing your daily commute. Karachi is a city of lights but it can feel quite tiresome to travel long routes every day. Thus, we bring to you a list of things that a regular person from Karachi has to endure every day. If nothing, it can help us gain more empathy towards one another.

1. The Potholes

With the ongoing construction projects all over the city, it can be seen that a lot of the roads are also being re-made. Thus, you might find yourself maneuvering your vehicle left and right to avoid potholes.

2. Dead Ends

It is not just the potholes that one has to be careful of. Often times, some areas are cordoned off due to the same type of construction or some other reason. In that case, Google Maps is not able to know it has been blocked and thus leads you to a dead end. Another thing to endure!

3. Karachi Traffic Jams

We cannot talk about the driving situation in Karachi without talking about the traffic jams. Leaving for anywhere between 6 pm to 8 pm on working days is a surefire way to get stuck. The traffic, combined with the noise and the emission is sure to give you a headache when your journey is complete.

4. Karachi Cricket Matches

It is not uncommon for the area around the National Stadium to have an enormous amount of traffic during match days. Not just that, when the teams are moving between the hotel and the stadium, the traffic is often stopped for 20 mins at a time.

5. Double Parking

People often park their cars parallel or perpendicular to another one that is parked beside the road. This makes the second car occupy the road and thus cause a traffic jam. This can be quite annoying as you have to force yourself to change lanes or other people have to do the same.

6. Cutting Through

if there is one thing you have to slow down your car for, its people cutting from near your car or in front of you. Be it a motorcyclist or a car driver, the behavior can be seen as the same.
