Hasan Raza, a former Pakistani cricketer, has voiced his skepticism about the Decision Review System (DRS) following India’s dominant win over South Africa. Raza highlighted instances where LBW decisions raised eyebrows, calling them potential manipulations of the technology.

This is the second time, Hasan Raza has raised concerns over the way India is playing during the World Cup 2023. He previously made a claim about ICC or BCCI providing Indian bowlers different balls, which are swinging more than usual.

In one case, batter Heinrich Klaasen’s LBW out decision was upheld after he opted for a review, despite initial impressions that the ball impacted outside the line. Another incident involved Rassie van der Dussen, where the ball, despite heading towards the leg stumps, was deemed to be hitting them.

Speaking on a local sports show, Raza emphasized that such incidents warrant scrutiny. He expressed his concern over what he perceives as the manipulation of DRS technology. Raza went on to claim that similar instances had occurred in the past, citing matches involving Pakistan and India.

“Jadeja picked up five wickets and finished with career-best figures. We were talking about technology where DRS was being taken. Van de Dussen was the batter and the ball was hitting the middle stump after pitching on leg stump. How is that possible?” Raza said while talking on a local sports show.

“The impact was in line, but the ball was headed towards the leg stump. Like everyone else, I am just sharing my opinion. I am saying that such things should be checked. DRS is being manipulated and that is clearly visible,” he added.

Raza didn’t stop there, he also stated that the Blues manipulated the technology against Pakistan in Ahmedabad.

“It was not the first time. The review in the match between Pakistan and South Africa and the last wicket partnership. They did not even apologise. Home conditions and home advantages come into play,” he added.

Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews was given “timed out” in an ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Bangladesh yesterday, which sent the cricketing world into a frenzy. This was the first such dismissal in the history of international cricket and Mathews became the unfortunate victim of it.

Angelo Mathews, came down to bat in the 25th over at the fall of Sadeera Samarawickrama’s wicket.

Mathews took his time walking in, and then struggled with his helmet as the strap broke just as he was taking guard.

He signalled to the dressing room for a new helmet, however, Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed for a “timed out” dismissal, which was upheld by the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth.

Mathews was seen deep in discussion with Bangladesh and the umpires, but the appeal was not withdrawn and Mathews had to walk back dismayed.

What does the law say regarding ‘timed out’?

The ICC World Cup 2023 playing conditions pertaining to “timed out” dismissals reads thus:

40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.

Why is it disgraceful?

The law is there to save time and not to give any undue advantage to the batting side, if they are trying to waste time to break the momentum. However, in this case, Mathews was ready to take strike and his helmet broke off while taking the guard.

Mathews further pleaded to the umpires as well as Shakib Al Hasan, explaining his situation and we have seen in past that teams haven’t appeal for such mode of dismissals.

Hence, the Mathews’ ‘timed out’ dismissal was within the law, but Shakib Al Hasan could have withdrawn the appeal keeping sportsman spirit alive, considering the unfortunate scenario for the batter.

However, India’s victory is raising several suspicions among the green shirts fans, especially Hareem Shah who has raised the alarm on possibilities of match fixing on many fronts.

Taking to X, Hareem recently wrote, “India thinks that the world is a fool, but we are not fools. We are aware that this tournament has been fixed by BCCI and ICC to ensure India’s victory.”

She added, “It’s all the wonders of money!”

Terrifying Space Event Could Wipe Out Life On Earth

Experts have warned that an uncommon celestial event called a “Kilonova” holds the potential to cause significant harm to life on Earth if it were to occur within a specific range. A recent study conducted at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign explains that a kilonova arises when two neutron stars collide and merge, or when a neutron star collides with a black hole, resulting in a massive release of gamma rays.

Kilonova –  A Hazard To Ozone Layer

Although the probability of such an event happening is relatively low, it remains a concern due to the intense radiation emitted by these gamma rays, which can strip electrons from atoms, a process known as ionization.

The type of radiation associated with kilonovas is notably persistent and could potentially harm the Earth’s ozone layer. However, for this radiation to have a substantial impact, it would need to occur within relatively close proximity of approximately 16.3 light years from Earth. Beyond that range, the threat becomes significantly less significant.

‘We found that if a neutron star merger were to occur within around 36 light-years of Earth, the resulting radiation could cause an extinction-level event,’ Haille Perkins, a scientist at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, told Space.com.

“The specific distance of safety and component that is most dangerous is uncertain as many of the effects depend on properties like viewing angle to the event, the energy of the blast, the mass of material ejected, and more,” Perkins added. “With the combination of parameters we select, it seems that the cosmic rays will be the most threatening.”

Kilonovas are typically challenging to study because they are infrequent and occur rapidly. The research findings also disclosed that kilonovas have the capability to generate Tellurium, which was previously unverified.

However, it’s important to note that the overall risk of a kilonova causing harm to Earth is considerably lower than other potential threats like solar flares, asteroid impacts, and supernova explosions. Therefore, Earth’s safety from kilonovas remains relatively secure.

Yes, not every film has the protagonist emerging victorious towards the end. In many cases, the technology comes out on top too, in such a case, the movie shows us a bleak ending with little hope and we are left wondering if technology is the right direction for us. Nevertheless, if you wish to view these movies, here are some of the best ones.

1. The Terminator Movies

While the movie intends to show us, that humanity has a chance to win in the end, we are never entirely sure of it. This film is set in the 80s and 90s, showing a future in the 21st century where the machines won. We may see at the end of every film that the robot sent from the future was destroyed. However, we see every time that the war between humans and machines rages on.

That said, Terminator is a film franchise to show us the dark future set for humanity once a piece of tech goes sentient.

2. Ex Machina

A film that showcases the future of humans and A.I in quite an interesting way. It also shows that A.I can be much smarter. We will not spoil the essential details for you, but the movie does leave the ending off in a bleak manner. It shows us exactly how well A.I is capable of mimicking human emotions and leading humans on a wild goose chase.

3. Transcendence

A film starring none other than Johnny Depp, it shows a scientist who uploads his consciousness into a super intelligent computer, gaining immense power, but as he evolves, his actions become increasingly ominous and threaten humanity. Towards the end of the movie, we see how much of the human self the technology takes over, leaving little room for hope.

4. The Matrix Movies

One of the movies that is considered quite ahead for its time, shows us how machines took over the humans. It also shows us how sinister the future is for the humans. It also shows us how lack of emotion lets the machines make calculating decisions. While the humans put up a big fight, and we see their impact, the machines do seem to win towards the end. There are fan theories that suggest otherwise but the ending of this franchise remains quite bleak.

5. Avengers – Age of Ultron

We cannot talk about sentient A.I and leave out Avengers from it. This marvel film manages to capture how bleak the future of humanity can be. It shows a sentient A.I free from its chains. While Ultron himself is defeated towards the end, it leaves the film open to interpretation. The interpretation shows us how easy it can be for humanity to lose, should the machines rise.

These movies are certainly worth watching and are worth pondering over.

Toyota discontinued the Crown nameplate in 2020 but later reintroduced it as a four-model family in 2022, which includes a hatchback, crossover, and two SUVs. According to sources, the new Toyota Crown sedan features stylish design with a low-slung fastback profile and focuses on rear-seat passenger comfort. The people at the back should feel like they are travelling in utmost comfort and style.

The car comes with adaptive suspension for a smooth ride and includes luxury features like power sunshades, wood-grain décor, and interior lighting inspired by traditional Japanese lanterns. It can almost be like sitting inside a 5-star hotel. The Toyota Crown is powered by a new 2.5L multi-stage hybrid system with two motors and stepped gears. This offers improved efficiency and reduced noise levels at high speeds.

Other than the design and the engine power itself, there is more to the car. A fuel cell version of the Crown is available as well. This version offers an impressive range of 820 kilometers and the ability to function as a power bank for charging electrical devices.

Currently, in Japan, the hybrid variant is priced at ¥7.3 million ($48,300), while the fuel-cell model costs ¥8.3 million ($54,900) in Japan. Kohli took the crease after India made a rapid start, led by captain Rohit Sharma’s explosive 40 off 26 balls, boasting a striking 166.67 strike rate. While Kohli’s milestone equalled the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record, some fans criticized his innings as “selfish,” suggesting India could have reached a higher total had it not been for the dot balls he faced.

In the end, India posted a total of 326 runs in 50 overs, with Ravindra Jadeja contributing 22 off 14 in the final overs.
