Lahore – May 03, 2024: Chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief financial officers (CFOs) need to build trust in artificial intelligence (AI) by taking steps in their organisations to manage the associated risks.

As AI plays a greater role in the accounting and financial reporting of businesses, CFOs and financial controllers will have to be confident about the adequacy of oversight and controls of AI systems.In the first in a series of insights, AI monitor: trust, ACCA urges finance professionals to ensure that AI governance and AI risk management is in place, beginning with:

Investing in AI literacy and skills development: finance professionals must invest in education and training to critically evaluate AI outputs, communicate clearly with key stakeholders, and make informed decisions. Collaborating via cross-functional teams: finance professionals should actively engage with IT, data science, legal and risk management teams.

Developing an AI governance framework: beginning with critical uses, finance professionals should take steps within their organisation to establish clear policies, oversight and governance practices.

AI presents many opportunities to businesses such as providing more insights from a wider array of information sources, driving greater efficiency and better customer experiences. But it also poses a challenge to trust in accounting and finance reporting with new dynamics being introduced to the traditional trust mechanisms that underpin corporate accounting.

Alistair Brisbourne, Head of Technology Research, ACCA, said: ‘Introducing AI is both about trust in the systems and trust in the people that we work with, and how we bring those two elements together.

‘CEOs and CFOs need to focus on making the changes needed to harness the many potential opportunities but also retain trust. This includes upskilling to deal with the technology and introducing new knowledge into their organisations. AI monitor: trust highlights some of the risks of AI in accounting systems, such as:Impacting decision making without clearly explaining the rationale of the forecast or recommendation;

An over-dependence on AI procedures in auditing and assurance and a decline in use of human intervention and judgement;

Concern over AI bias or error in fraud detection, risk assessment and compliance monitoring;

Over relying on AI-powered virtual assistants which give inaccurate or inappropriate responses.

Brisbourne said: ‘In the AI era the role of finance professionals is to focus on the outcomes driven by technology. Value lies in understanding how these outputs inform decisions and actions that drive business outcomes.’In 2024 issues of the AI monitor will explore talent, risk and controls, the relevance of effective data strategy, and sustainability applications.

Cambridge Opens Investigation into Paper Leak Allegations

Cambridge International Education (CIE) is looking into worries about a possible problem with the AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12 test that happened on May 2nd, 2024.

In a statement shared on their Facebook page, they stated that they know about the concerns and are checking them. They also mentioned that they’re in talks with the British Council.

However, they also stated that they’ll tell us more when they know, but would not use Facebook as a medium. CIE wants to make sure their tests are fair and honest.


This is making students who did the test really worried. Many of them are talking about it on social media because they’re scared it might affect their grades and what they can do in the future. CIE said in their message that they’re taking this very seriously.

They’re working diligently with the British Council to find out how big the problem is and what could happen because of it. We’re still learning more about this.

We’ve asked people involved for comments about what happened with the AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12 test. We’ll keep an eye on things and tell you more when we know.

With a recipe so simple, anyone can help themselves with this drink. Moreover, the mango sherbet even has cardamons in it for extra flavor. The recipe is by Chef Fauzia and the instructions are quite easy;

Wash and boil the mangoes in water until soft. Cool, peel, and remove the seeds. Then, add sugar and the grated jaggery and liquidize in a liquidizer. Later, mix the cardamoms with the mango pulp. Add the warm water and refrigerate.

When serving, add a little cold water. Mix thoroughly and serve with salt to taste.

3. Home-made Mango Juice

Russia’s Inclusive Move: Headscarves Allowed In Citizenship Forms

Russia has recently made a significant change in its citizenship application process, announcing that headscarves and hijabs will now be permitted in passport photographs for foreign nationals. The decision, announced by the Russian Interior Ministry. Comes as part of efforts to ease regulations surrounding citizenship applications.

New Regulations

Effective from May 5, the new law will allow applicants whose religious beliefs require them to wear head coverings to submit photographs with appropriate attire. However, it’s worth noting that scarves covering the chin entirely or partially will not be accepted. Ensuring that the face remains visible for identification purposes.

This move aligns with Russia’s commitment to religious freedom while also prioritizing state security. Biysultan Khamzaev, a member of the State Duma Security and Anti-Corruption Committee, emphasized that while respecting religious traditions, it’s crucial to maintain the ability of video monitoring systems to identify individuals.

Evolution of Passport Photo Regulations

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Russia has adjusted its regulations regarding head coverings in passport photos. In the Soviet era, such coverings were not allowed. However, after the dissolution of the USSR, Muslim women began using photographs with hijabs until a ban was imposed in 1997. This ban was later overturned by the Russian Supreme Court in 2003.

President Vladimir Putin has emphasized Russia’s diverse and inclusive nature, highlighting its status as a “multinational and multi-religious country.” With over 190 ethnic groups residing within its borders, Russia recognizes the importance of respecting different cultures and traditions.
