Try These 5 Methods To Prevent Car Theft In Pakistan

In Pakistan, owning a car is not just a convenience; it’s a significant financial investment and a symbol of one’s hard-earned success. However, the increasing rates of car theft has become a source of constant worry for car owners. The problem is made worse by the police’s seeming inaction, since there have been stories of their disinterest and, in certain cases, their suspected cooperation with criminal groups. Today we dive into the top five ways to protect your car from theft, ensuring your peace of mind in a country where vehicle security is a pressing issue.

1. Anti-Theft Devices

While many new cars come equipped with basic anti-theft features, they often fall short in the face of determined thieves. Investing in advanced anti-theft devices such as immobilizers, which prevent the engine from starting without the correct key, or steering wheel locks that serve as a visible deterrent, can make a significant difference.

Additionally, installing a car alarm that triggers a loud noise upon unauthorized entry or movement can attract attention and discourage thieves. And for added security, you can always buy locks for your pedals as well as your steering wheel. Thus further ensuring that no one can run-off with your precious vehicle that easily.

2. Parking Smartly To Avoid Car Theft

This might come as a shock to you, but even where you park your vehicle plays a critical role in your car being jacked. Parking in a secure, well-lit area can greatly reduce the risk of car theft. Opt for guarded parking lots with surveillance cameras whenever possible. If you must park on the street, choose busy areas where the presence of people might deter potential thieves. Rotate your parking spots to avoid patterns that criminals can track.

3. Concealing Anything And Everything Valuable

Leaving valuables in plain sight can tempt thieves to break into your vehicle, even if they don’t intend to steal the car itself. Always take your belongings with you or store them out of sight in the trunk, dash compartment or even just under your seat. Tinted windows can also help keep the interior of your car hidden from prying eyes but seeing how you live in Pakistan, unless you have connections, that option is out.

4. Getting Insurance For Car Theft

Insurance and documentation are the safety nets that catch car owners should they fall victim to theft. Comprehensive insurance offers financial reprieve, while photographs and meticulous records of one’s vehicle aid in its identification and recovery. These documents, however, must be kept secure, for in the wrong hands, they become tools for the thief. Insurance in Pakistan is something people don’t really think about, but it goes a long way when the worse comes to happen.

5. Staying Updated

Staying informed is staying one step ahead as they always say. Local crime trends and statistics paint a picture of the threat landscape, allowing car owners to navigate with caution. Community alerts provide real-time updates, a collective effort in vigilance. The vehicle registration number is a car’s unique identifier, a critical piece of information in the unfortunate event of theft. Plus staying up-to date with traffic tends helps you navigate through a safer route.

The fear of car theft looms large, a shadow over the investment and emotional attachment car owners place in their vehicles. The inconvenience of loss, the disruption to daily life, and the financial and emotional toll are burdens too heavy to bear. It is a fear grounded in the reality of today’s Pakistan, a challenge that demands action, awareness, and a steadfast commitment to protection. But instead of relying just on Allah ke bharosay par, these are just a couple of numerous ways you can prevent such an incident from happening with you.

Based on black magic, this movie will take you on a roller coaster ride. A non-believing psychiatrist and an exorcist pool their efforts to save a young woman from what the former suspects to be schizophrenia. The word ‘horror’ doesn’t even come close to describing this blockbuster. The best and the scariest part of it all is probably the disclaimer at the end, “based on true events.”

2. Semur: Şeytanın Kabilesi

American horror movies are rarely able to combine drama with horror movies. But when it comes to Turkish, then you can rest assured, you will get the entire package. Semur, as the name of the movie dictates, is an evil (shaitan) that arrives as a result of jealousy of a man. Apparently, the man is jealous of his own best friend for being married to someone he loves.

3. Siccin

Seeing as how almost all Turkish horror movies are based on black magic, one can imagine how rampant it is in the country. The story is about a woman who loves a married man. However, in order to get his attention and his love, she enlists powers beyond her control.

4. Beddua

Beddua is also a word in Urdu so you may have an idea what it is about. This time it is no jealous friend or lover, it is a curse that befalls four friends.

The friends are close even years after their graduation but will they remain close or even alive after the ordeals this time?

5. Baskin

Instead of ill-prepared people, this movie is about policemen who are always in company of their weapons. But if the enemy is supernatural, how effective are our worldly weapons? And isn’t it even scarier to be in possession of guns? What if a jinn makes you hallucinate and you end up shooting your own partner?

Businesses Urged To Take Steps To Maximise The Opportunities Of AI And Lay Foundations For Responsible Use Of New Technologies

Lahore – May 03, 2024: Chief executive officers (CEOs) and chief financial officers (CFOs) need to build trust in artificial intelligence (AI) by taking steps in their organisations to manage the associated risks.

As AI plays a greater role in the accounting and financial reporting of businesses, CFOs and financial controllers will have to be confident about the adequacy of oversight and controls of AI systems. In the first in a series of insights, AI monitor: trust, ACCA urges finance professionals to ensure that AI governance and AI risk management is in place, beginning with:

Investing in AI literacy and skills development: finance professionals must invest in education and training to critically evaluate AI outputs, communicate clearly with key stakeholders, and make informed decisions. Collaborating via cross-functional teams: finance professionals should actively engage with IT, data science, legal and risk management teams.

Developing an AI governance framework: beginning with critical uses, finance professionals should take steps within their organisation to establish clear policies, oversight and governance practices.

AI presents many opportunities to businesses such as providing more insights from a wider array of information sources, driving greater efficiency and better customer experiences. But it also poses a challenge to trust in accounting and finance reporting with new dynamics being introduced to the traditional trust mechanisms that underpin corporate accounting.

Alistair Brisbourne, Head of Technology Research, ACCA, said: ‘Introducing AI is both about trust in the systems and trust in the people that we work with, and how we bring those two elements together.

‘CEOs and CFOs need to focus on making the changes needed to harness the many potential opportunities but also retain trust. This includes upskilling to deal with the technology and introducing new knowledge into their organisations. They also need to focus on the governance, the oversight and culture required to allow different teams to work together effectively. It’s about bringing change management and governance together.’

AI monitor: trust highlights some of the risks of AI in accounting systems, such as:Impacting decision making without clearly explaining the rationale of the forecast or recommendation;

An over-dependence on AI procedures in auditing and assurance and a decline in use of human intervention and judgement;

Concern over AI bias or error in fraud detection, risk assessment and compliance monitoring;

Over relying on AI-powered virtual assistants which give inaccurate or inappropriate responses.

Brisbourne said: ‘In the AI era the role of finance professionals is to focus on the outcomes driven by technology. Value lies in understanding how these outputs inform decisions and actions that drive business outcomes.’In 2024 issues of the AI monitor will explore talent, risk and controls, the relevance of effective data strategy, and sustainability applications.

Source: The Economy

Russia has recently made a significant change in its citizenship application process, announcing that headscarves and hijabs will now be permitted in passport photographs for foreign nationals. The decision, announced by the Russian Interior Ministry. Comes as part of efforts to ease regulations surrounding citizenship applications.

New Regulations

This move aligns with Russia’s commitment to religious freedom while also prioritizing state security. Biysultan Khamzaev, a member of the State Duma Security and Anti-Corruption Committee, emphasized that while respecting religious traditions, it’s crucial to maintain the ability of video monitoring systems to identify individuals.

Evolution of Passport Photo Regulations

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Russia has adjusted its regulations regarding head coverings in passport photos. In the Soviet era, such coverings were not allowed. However, after the dissolution of the USSR, Muslim women began using photographs with hijabs until a ban was imposed in 1997. This ban was later overturned by the Russian Supreme Court in 2003.

President Vladimir Putin has emphasized Russia’s diverse and inclusive nature, highlighting its status as a “multinational and multi-religious country.” With over 190 ethnic groups residing within its borders, Russia recognizes the importance of respecting different cultures and traditions.

A Step Towards Diversity

This decision reflects a broader trend of accommodating religious practices within governmental procedures. Russian citizens have been allowed to use photographs in hijabs for various official documents, including passport applications, driver’s licenses, work permits, and patents.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon revealed this development, highlighting its potential to revolutionize commuting experiences for the city’s residents.

Expanding Reach and Accessibility

In a recent announcement, Minister Memon expressed his enthusiasm as a new batch of 20 buses docked at the Port, signaling a positive shift in Karachi’s transportation landscape. These buses, marked for the People’s Bus Service, are set to offer enhanced affordability and comfort to passengers travelling through the city.

The strategic placement of these buses aligns with the government’s vision to boost accessibility and convenience in public transit. Minister Memon emphasized the initiation of new routes under the People’s Bus Service umbrella, aiming to address existing gaps and cater to the evolving needs of Karachi’s population.

Public-Private Partnership

Complementing this initiative, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab disclosed plans to integrate 60 buses from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) into the public transportation grid. Operating on diesel fuel, these buses will operate under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, further expanding the reach of accessible transit options across the city.

This startf progress in Karachi’s transportation sector shows recent efforts at the federal level. During his inaugural visit to the city, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif pledged to allocate 150 buses, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility infrastructure. This decision materialized following a formal request from Minister Memon, reflecting a collaborative approach to addressing transportation challenges.

A Feasible Transit Network

While Minister Memon initially sought 300 buses, the Prime Minister’s assurance of 150 buses signifies a significant stride towards revitalizing Karachi’s public transit network. By integrating these buses into the existing fleet, the Sindh transport department anticipates a tangible improvement in service delivery, providing opportunity for greater connectivity and convenience for commuters.

As Karachi welcomes these new additions to its transportation fascilitiesl, anticipation grows regarding the transformative impact they will have on the city’s traffic dynamic. Beyond facilitating mobility, these buses symbolize a broader commitment to prioritizing citizen-centric initiatives and inclusive urban development.

In the face of urbanization and evolving mobility needs, Karachi’s investment in robust public transportation is proof of slow progress, promising a future where accessibility and efficiency work together to fascilitate the middle class communities and push the city towards sustainable growth.

Shahid Afridi Blames Saim Ayub, Not Babar, Rizwan, For Opening Woes

saim-ayub-shares-the-story-behind-no-look-shot-fab-four

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has weighed in on Pakistan’s opening batting struggles, specifically pointing fingers at young batter Saim Ayub for the team’s slow starts in T20Is.

Afridi didn’t mince his words, stating that the responsibility for Pakistan’s sluggish beginnings does not lie with established players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, but squarely on the shoulders of Saim Ayub.

Despite being provided with numerous opportunities, Ayub has failed to make a significant impact, according to Afridi. Since his T20I debut against Afghanistan last year, Ayub’s performance has been lacklustre, managing only 219 runs in 15 innings at a modest strike rate of 125.86.

Afridi highlighted Ayub’s recent struggles as he accumulated a mere 96 runs in the last eight innings, averaging a paltry 12 with a strike rate of 129.72.

Expressing his disappointment, Afridi emphasized the importance of Ayub stepping up and delivering consistent performances, especially considering the critical role of the opening partnership in shaping the outcome of matches.

“Saim [Ayub] is the issue, not Babar [Azam] and [Mohammad] Rizwan. Saim has been given many opportunities but he has failed to deliver,” said Afridi while speaking to a local news channel.

Despite acknowledging Ayub’s talent, Afridi stressed the need for tangible results, urging the young batter to convert potential into match-winning contributions.

“A lot of people are a fan of his talent but we need runs from Saim since the opening stand is a crucial part of the game. I think he has played 15 T20I innings but is yet to score a fifty,” he added.

In light of Ayub’s underwhelming performances, Afridi proposed an alternative solution, suggesting that veteran opener Fakhar Zaman could be deployed as an opener in the upcoming T20 World Cup if Ayub fails to impress during the Ireland and England tours.

“Saim needs to show more responsibility during matches and score game-changing runs in at least two out of every five innings,” stated the former all-rounder.

“We have not seen this from Saim so far but he might get more chances. If this doesn’t work out, Pakistan could give chance to Fakhar Zaman as an opener during the World Cup.”

Zaman, with his wealth of experience, could offer a dynamic and aggressive approach at the top of the order, injecting much-needed momentum into Pakistan’s batting lineup.

However, even his track record as an opener in T20Is does not reflect the reputation he carries as a master blaster. Zaman has played 36 innings in T20Is as an opener, scoring 812 runs at an average of 20.44 with a strike rate of 130.98.

Employees Criticize Bosses For Manipulating With ‘Family’ Label

On platform X, formerly known as Twitter, an Indian man Siddharth has brought light to a very important issue employees face in working environments. The culture of being like an uncle, or being like a brother, has consumed Indian offices and is causing people to be stuck in the same job position for years. Why? Because these said ” family ” titles make it extremely difficult to navigate the office environment without seeming rude, or difficult to work with.

Siddharth shared on his account, the story of his cousin’s employment: after leaving an underpaid job he was manipulated with narratives like you’re my “brother.” This pushed Siddharth to talk about the prevalent issue of manipulation in offices. These sorts of relationships, when created in the work environment, then leave no room to be professional.

To the matter, Siddharth commented, if he’s so dear to you if he’s your brother, why do you hesitate in making him partner?

It is a common practice to exploit workers. Moreover, they can then also use it as a method to not hike prices; even make employees work overtime without paying accordingly.

Siddharth’s Personal Experience As an Employee

In the Platform X thread, he continued that he had some similar experiences too. When signing a contract, the partner declared, “We are like brothers’ now.” However, he was quick to notice the “family” trap and set boundaries there and then.

In the end, he stated that maintaining professionalism is the utmost important thing in work environments. The more professional you are, the higher you’ll climb the corporation ladder.

The thread was a great success, as many more employees began to flood their experiences below. Unfortunately, so many more people had gone through the same thing.
