Facebook Reveals Internal Rules for Removing Controversial Posts

Facebook said Tuesday it will give users the right to appeal decisions if the social network decides to remove photos, videos or written posts deemed to violate community standards.

Plans to roll out an appeals process globally in coming months came as Facebook provided a first-ever look at internal standards used to decide what posts go too far in terms of hateful or threating speech.

“This is part of an effort to be more clear about where we draw the line on content,” Facebook public policy manager in charge of content Siobhan Cummiskey told AFP.

“And for the first time, we’re giving you the right to appeal our decisions on individual posts so you can ask for a second opinion when you think we’ve made a mistake.”

The move to involve Facebook users more on standards for removing content comes as the social network fends off criticism on an array of fronts, including handling of people’s data, spreading “fake news,” and whether politics has tinted content removal decisions.

California-based Facebook already lets people appeal the removal of profiles or pages. The appeal process to be built up during the year ahead will extend that right to individual posts, according to Cummiskey.

The new appeal process will first focus on posts remove on the basis of nudity, sex, hate speech or graphic violence.

Notifications sent regarding removed posts will include buttons that can be clicked to trigger appeals, which will be done by a member of the Facebook team.

While software is used to help find content violating standards at the social network, humans will handle appeals and the goal is to have reviews done within a day.

We believe giving people a voice in the process is another essential component of building a fair system,” vice president of global product management Monika Bickert said.

“For the first time, we are publishing the internal implementation guidelines that our content reviewers use to make decisions about what’s allowed on Facebook.”

Some 7,500 content reviewers are part of a 15,000-person team at Facebook devoted to safety and security, according to Cummiskey, who said the team is expected to grow to 20,000 people by the end of this year.

“It’s quite a tricky and complex thing drawing lines around what people can and cannot share on Facebook, which is why we consult experts,” said Cummiskey, whose background includes work as a human rights attorney.

On World Book Day, SOC Outreach Announces the World’s First Bulletproof Book

In order to help girls’ education in Pakistan, SOC Outreach and BBDO have collaborated to create the world’s first bulletproof book. A novella written by Sanam Maher, “Knowledge is Bulletproof” tells the story of Shazia Ramzan and Kainat Riaz, the two girls who were shot alongside Malala, and who went on to become advocates for education.

The book is about 150 pages and is bound with a special layering of bullet-resistant Kevlar XP fiber that has the capability to repel a 9mm bullet fired from as close as 5 meters.

SOC Outreach, a community engagement program that works with educational institutions and organizations to instill critical thinking in the next generation of Pakistanis, is spearheaded by Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

The project is an activation designed by BBDO to raise awareness of the importance of education, to inspire and motivate girls and women to go to school regardless of the hurdles, to emphasize the strength of Pakistani women who choose education, and to acknowledge the resilience of Pakistanis.

The project will seek to raise funds through the sale of these books in order to donate to a cause benefitting girls’ education in Northern Pakistan, particularly in the areas affected by the Taliban, and will help fund the rebuilding of schools.

The book, which also features photography by Insiya Syed, will be a special limited edition collector’s item launched on World Book Day and will also be auctioned to collect funds.

iPhone SE 2: Rumored Price in Pakistan, Specs, Release Date & More

Looks like Apple might be releasing yet another budget smartphone, iPhone SE 2.

Back in 2016, the brand had launched the 4in display smartphone for those who wanted a more affordable pocket-sized version of 2013’s iPhone 5S.

Fast-forward to 2 years later, Apple has not made any announcements yet, which indicates another version of the SE could be in the pipeline.

iPhone X SE

iPhone SE 2 Rumored Specifications & Features

Rumors suggest the tech giant will not change the phone too much because of a low price range, and compact size. If so, its highly possible that iPhone SE 2 will receive much-needed spec updates, and could be launched in new colors.

Considering it to be an entry-level gadget, it will not be equipped with a fingerprint sensor or wireless charging. It might get a better camera, possibly with optical image stabilization and quad-tone flash and iPhone 8’s A11 Fusion CPU.

Apple may kill the headphone jack for this one as well, but we are still unsure. However, Japanese news website Mactakra claims it has seen the iPhone SE 2, it has no jack and looks like its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy X Picture & Specifications Leaked!

iPhone SE 2 Rumored Release Date

The iPhone SE 2 is expected sometime around June-July, as predicted by a Chinese news outlet back in November 2017.

iPhone SE 2 Rumored Price

The SE 2 might be priced around $399, £359, the same price as the original SE.

There’s a high possibility the SE 2 can be the iPhone X SE, one of the 3 models which Apple is working on for their Apple X lineup.

In January, a hacker(s) stole valuable information about Careem users, including names, addresses, email IDs, numbers, and more.

The ride-hailing service, with the help of authorities, looked into the matter to have it resolved at earliest. The company announced this news on their official Twitter account.

“Dear Customers, we have identified a cyber incident that took place in January 2018 involving unauthorized access to the system we use to store data. Our wider security protocol keep passwords encrypted and credit card details on a separate system.”

The company has created a blog to help their customers take necessary steps they need to protect their account and to stay safe.

careem pakistan hacked

On January 14th of this year, Careem found out that online criminals had gained access to their computer systems which hold valuable customer and captain account data. Customers and captains who have signed up after that date are not affected.

Careem claims that their priority has been to protect the data and privacy of their customers and captains. Since discovering the issue, they have done and are doing everything possible to understand what happened, learn who was affected, and what is needed to do to strengthen network defenses.

What Careem Cyber Breach Victims Need to do?

The ride-hailing service has suggested following the following steps whether the customer has been affected or not to stay alert for the days ahead.

  • Implement good password management by updating your Careem password, as well as other accounts on which you use similar details. Use a strong mix of characters, and try not to use the same password for multiple sites.

Pakistan Hockey Hero Seeks Heart Transplant In India

Pakistan’s World Cup winning field hockey goalkeeper Mansoor Ahmed Monday reached out to India for help in securing a heart transplant — despite years of breaking his rivals’ “hearts on the field”.

The 49-year-old has been suffering for weeks from complications stemming from a pacemaker and stents implanted in his heart.

Ahmed has been a sporting icon in Pakistan since helping the country win the 1994 World Cup in Sydney with his penalty stroke push against the Netherlands in the final.

“I may have broken a lot of Indian hearts on the field of play by beating India in the Indira Gandhi Cup (1989) and in other events but that was sport,” Ahmed told AFP.

“Now I need a heart transplant in India and for that I need support from the Indian government.”

India-Pakistan ties, including sports and cultural contacts, plummeted after the 2008 militant attacks in Mumbai, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistani militant groups.

Despite the strained ties, Pakistanis are eligible to apply for medical visas to India, renowned for its booming medical tourism industry.

Ahmed — who played 338 international matches, participated in three Olympics and various other high-profile events in a career spanning from 1986 to 2000 — said the visa could be a lifesaver.

“Humanity is paramount and I too would be obliged if I get a visa and other help in India” said Ahmed.

Sport has been one of the few avenues to improve relations between the arch rivals, he added.

“We have had a great rivalry and sports have helped on a number of occasions so that should continue,” said Ahmed.

India has suspended most bilateral sporting ties with Pakistan since 2008, with high-profile cricket tours bearing the brunt of the moratorium.

They have, however, continued to play each other in multinational events like the World Cup.

Cannes Film Festival: 10 Red Carpet Fails

The prestigious event may be synonymous with glamour, but the Cannes Film Festival still sees its share of fashion faux pas each year — although these are very often intentional attention-grabbing outfits. With the 71st edition of the French festival just around the corner (May 8-19, 2018), here’s a look at some of the event’s biggest red carpet fails.

Saudi Women Embrace Sports Abayas

Colorful and oozing defiance, a sports-friendly version of the abaya gown was once considered a symbol of cultural rebellion in conservative Saudi Arabia, but it is fast becoming the new normal.

Pictures of female athletes running in the garb in the Red Sea city of Jeddah went viral last month, setting off a new debate on sartorial freedoms for women in a country where the typically all-black, body-shrouding garment is obligatory in public.

Some cultural purists vented fury online, calling it a breach of tradition, but opposition has been largely muted following recent comments from powerful Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman that the abaya — any abaya — is not mandatory in Islam.

Until a formal edict comes, however, designers such as Eman Joharjy are cashing in on the growing popularity of the so-called sports abayas, as many women push back against traditional attitudes of equating chastity with the dress code.

“There is a big demand,” Joharjy told AFP at her fashion studio in Jeddah.

“Having them in different colors is empowering.”

Akin to a zippered jumpsuit, sports abayas envelop a woman’s body but offer greater mobility for sporting activities, in contrast to the classic baggy version where tripping on the hem of the flowing garment is a common risk.

The 43-year-old’s designs come in colors like pistachio green, beige and white — more tolerable in the kingdom’s scorching heat — and she uses natural fabrics, including French poplin, that does not cling to a sweating body.

One of the early pioneers of the trend, Joharjy said she was branded a social outlier and jeered by some as “Batman” when she began designing — and donning — sports abayas publicly in 2007.

“There was a little bit of rebellion but I designed it for myself because it’s practical,” she said.

“You zip up and are ready to go.”

– ‘Soccer-themed abayas’ –

Joharjy has defied a popular maxim in Saudi Arabia: “If it’s not black, it’s not an abaya.”

Abayas have evolved over the years, with new patterns, fabrics, and embellishments, and they are sometimes worn in the kingdom with baseball-style caps over headscarves.

The latest fad is an eye-catching ensemble of “soccer-themed abayas” — in the colors of the local teams, a new way for female sporting fans to cheer for their favorite players.

Such fashion trends are gaining momentum amid the kingdom’s liberalization drive, including a historic royal decree allowing women to drive from June and enter sports stadiums for the first time.

The government is also seeking to jump-start women’s sports and is moving toward compulsory physical education classes for girls after a ban was lifted in 2014.

Saudi officials recently announced that women would be able to participate next year in the Riyadh international marathon, previously a male-only event.

Women exercising in public were long a target for the kingdom’s austere religious police, which has largely been neutered in recent years.

And the once-unthinkable idea of doing away with the abaya appears to now be gaining traction.

“The laws are very clear and stipulated in the laws of Sharia: that women wear decent, respectful clothing, like men,” Prince Mohammed told CBS Television last month.

“This, however, does not particularly specify a black abaya. (It) is entirely left for women to decide what type of decent and respectful attire to wear.”

– ‘Modest look’ –

Muslim cleric Sheikh Ahmed bin Qassim al-Ghamdi added a new wrinkle to the debate when he dismissed the long-held view that black was the only color for abayas permissible in Islam.

“The cloak is meant for maintaining a modest look and it does not have to be black,” the former chief of the religious police in the holy city of Mecca, told Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya television last month.

But the risk of a social backlash is real in a society steeped in conservatism.

“They look like cleaners!” a tweet said, in response to viral images of athletes dressed in sports abayas.

“Their purpose is not sports. We have all been running in full body veil,” tweeted another.

Back at Joharjy’s studio, a longtime client Marwa al-Hadi walked in wearing one of her designs with magenta sneakers.

“Abaya is like the Indian saree, it is part of our identity,” Joharjy told her, as they weighed in on the future evolution of the garment.

“But at the same time, if God did not want women to do sports, we would not have muscles or a body.”

Hadi nodded.

“It is no one’s business to stop and question what I’m wearing,” she said.

Rashid, Tamim & Shakib Confirmed for ICC World XI Team to Play the Windies at Lord’s

Top-ranked bowler Rashid Khan of Afghanistan and Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal have confirmed their participation for the ICC World XI which will play a Twenty20 International against the Windies at Lord’s on 31 May.

Rashid, who is ranked number one on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings and is second in the list of One Day International bowlers, will be one of many big names to watch in the Lord’s match, which is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean which were damaged due to hurricanes last year.

Shakib, the top-ranked all-rounder in ODIs and third in T20Is, and left-handed opener Tamim also come in with huge reputations and Bangladesh fans would be following their fortunes with interest. The trio joins three other Asians who have already confirmed for the match – Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik and Thisara Perera of Sri Lanka.

More big names are likely to be confirmed in the coming days for the ICC World XI side, which is being led by England’s limited overs captain Eoin Morgan.

Rashid Khan said: “It is a matter of great honour and pride for me and my country that I have been chosen to support one of cricket’s oldest and most loyal members. I don’t think it will be incorrect to say that a number of cricketers from this and previous generations were inspired and attracted to cricket due to the heroics of the West Indies sides of the 70s, 80s and 90s. And if the West Indies are now looking upon us for help, then there shouldn’t be a hesitation for even a second.

“Apart from my cricket obligations and responsibilities, the incentive of playing in this great match at the Home of Cricket at the age of 19, with and against some of the best cricketers of this generation, is just too tempting, irresistible and an icing on the cake.

“I urge all cricket fans and supporters to join hands with the match organisers and the players in making 31 May a hugely successful day so that the funds raised from this match can be reinvested into cricket that, in turn, will not only bring the smiles back on the faces of local cricket supporters but will also lead to the resumption of cricket activities in those regions.”

Tamim Iqbal said: “Cricket is a sport which unites people, bridges gaps, and in which players and teams support each other. This match is a testament to this statement and I am delighted to have been chosen to once again represent the ICC World XI for a cause which will only make cricket a bigger and better sport.

“The West Indies’ contribution to the global game is unmatched and unparalleled, and if the cricket fraternity can get together to play a small role in the rebuilding of their damaged venues following last year’s hurricanes, then this is a very small price with hugely positive results.

“Playing at Lord’s is itself a great honour for any cricketer. My only international appearance there was in 2010, so I look forward to reliving those memories. Playing with and against some of the best cricketers of this era will only make this occasion better and more memorable.”

The Windies, reigning ICC World Twenty20 champions, are being led by Carlos Brathwaite and the side includes other top names like Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Samuel Badree and Andre Russell.

The tickets for the match are available at https://tickets.lords.org/ with all proceeds going towards rebuilding and renovating five major venues as well as other community cricket facilities that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The venues that will benefit include the Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten.

According to the leak, the Samsung Galaxy X will be genuinely bezel-less vastness smartphone similar to Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 2S. It ought to have a 90%+ screen to body proportion, higher than the Mi Mix 2S which has a little bezel at the base lodging the front camera.

Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X Rumored Specs and Features

Here are the speculated specs and features that the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X might have:

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X is speculated to flaunt a next-generation OLED screen and a screen-to-body ratio that might be greater than 93 percent. Though there are no extensive details about the upcoming smartphone’s display, it is believed that the resolution will be the same as what the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S8 have. What Samsung might be planning is to lessen the bezels from the top frame, sides, and chin to give the handset a truly bezel-less appearance.

Super Kabaddi League 2018 Players Draft & Live Updates

Processor

When it comes to the processor, it is anticipated that the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X will be engineered by Snapdragon 855. This chipset could be the first SoC to be invented on the innovative 7nm process. Meanwhile, the Exynos equivalent will be the successor of the Exynos 9810, which is allegedly named Exynos 9820. Additionally, there were also rumors stating that Samsung would be integrating its in-house GPU solution along with the CPU.

RAM and Memory

RAM and memory wise, rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S10 or the Galaxy X might be the first flagship device from the South Korean tech company to feature the LPDDR5 memory. Incorporating this piece of technology would lead to better battery life for the users. For the RAM, we might see 6GB and 8GB RAM variants and this might be a good idea to enhance the UI.

Other Features

Apart from the possible specs and features that are mentioned above, Bell has tipped that at least three tech companies are working hand in hand to develop Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X’s in-display fingerprint reader technology.

The companies that are working for this to be possible are the Qualcomm, Synaptics, and Aegis Tech. Fascinatingly, these firms aren’t only concentrated on an under-screen fingerprint scanner.

In fact, there’s also a possibility that the Galaxy S10 might also feature a 3D camera sensing technology that’s similar to the Face ID system of the Cupertino-based tech company’s iPhone X.

As of this moment, these are the alleged specs and features of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S10 or Galaxy X. Since these are just speculations it is advised that the aforementioned details will be taken with a grain of salt. Always keep an eye for further updates regarding the forthcoming flagship handset from Samsung.
