This year, the Foundation is proud to announce a new scholarship for Ayeda Hamed, a Princeton graduate who will pursue an M.Phil. in Development
Studies at Oxford.
Ayeda’s research will focus on economic development policy solutions for South Asia, aligning with the Foundation’s commitment to fostering educational excellence and contributing to Pakistan’s progress.
The Malala Fund has partnered with the Hamid Ismail Foundation to co-sponsor this scholarship, underscoring a shared dedication to empowering young women and advancing education in underrepresented regions.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has just released a list of potential new designs for its money taking a big step in changing the country’s currency. The SBP wants to give its banknotes a fresh look after a group of experts spent months looking them over. These designs mix history with new artistic ideas and will go through more checks by designers from other countries before they hit the streets.
Honoring National Icons
The new designs show Fatima Jinnah on the 500-rupee note, while Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s famous face will stay on the 10 20, 100, 500, and 5000-rupee notes. Liaquat Ali Khan, who was Pakistan’s first Prime Minister, will appear on the 1000-rupee note. The back of this note has a picture of hands linked together, which stands for people coming together and being strong.
This redesign effort comes after the SBP’s public invitation earlier this year. The bank asked local artists and designers to submit their creative ideas for the new currency notes. Many talented people responded with enthusiasm. Dr. Sherry Abdi won first prize for her design of the 10-rupee note, while Mirza Sufyan got second place for his design. Other winners include Mirza Haroon Khan for the 20-rupee note, Ms. Maimoona Afzal for the 100 and 5000-rupee notes, Ms. Hadiya Hassan for the 500-rupee note, and Ms. Noreen Aslam for the 1000-rupee note.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is racing against the clock as incomplete construction at stadiums in Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan poses a serious challenge. These construction projects are all part of Pakistan’s preparation for hosting the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, a major event that the country is excited to showcase.
However, these upgrades have put the PCB in a difficult position. If construction is paused to accommodate the Pakistan-England Test series, the stadiums may not be ready in time for the Champions Trophy. According to her, the delay was due to the ban on X (formerly Twitter) in Pakistan, which prevented her post from going live at the time. She clarified that she only became aware of the post going public after media outlets picked it up.
“I initially made this post on June 30th 2024, but due to restrictions on Twitter in Pakistan, it was posted last night instead, which I learned about through the media. I am attaching both pictures to this post,” Dar explained.
However, her explanation didn’t do much to calm the storm. The ban on X (Twitter) has been in place in Pakistan since February, but many people have continued to access the platform through VPNs.
Fans quickly pointed out that this workaround is widely known and used, leading many to label Dar’s clarification as a weak attempt at damage control.
