Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, launched the Ph.D. Countries Directory Online System on Tuesday at the Pakistan Secretariat of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), in Islamabad. This means that people who want to now register for a Ph.D. can do it easily without any hassle. The government has made it faster, more efficient, and simpler so anyone and everyone can do it.
The PCD registration procedure for people interested in doing a Ph.D. in Pakistan, the HEC’s traditional Ph.D. Country Directory (PCD) setup has now been automated. Vice Chancellors of several universities, and many Ph.D. students, Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Executive Director HEC Dr. Shaista Sohail, and others were present during a ceremony held in this regard at the HEC Secretariat.

The HEC Higher Education Data Repository has created the PCD Online System with the assistance of Information Technology (IT) and other Divisions, which allows for the quick addition of Pakistani PhDs to the HEC data through designated university focal persons. This process can be completed within a few days, without the need for hard copy documentation or application submission which makes it that much simpler and easier.
Previously, the PCD procedures would take many months for any processing to happen. But now with a few changes the online system is better than ever. During the ceremony, Rana Tanveer Hussain praised the launch of the PCD Online System and expressed good hopes that it would be beneficial for Ph.D. scholars without any difficulties. He stressed the significance of using technology in institutional operations to simplify the procedures for the public. ‘Dove’ brand of Unilever Canada has launched its newest campaign to highlight the negative consequences that beauty ideals may have on young people in keeping with its long-running Self-Esteem Initiative along with a billboard in Toronto that demonstrates that these effects can begin earlier than some might think backing that claim.
Dove built a billboard out of 50,000 syringes to symbolize the number of Canadian girls between the ages of 14 and 17 who underwent injectable cosmetic procedures in the previous calendar year.
The Dove Self-Esteem Initiative aims to enhance young people’s body image and self-esteem. Campaigns aimed at parents to encourage them to talk to their children about reasonable beauty standards make up a significant portion of the project. Ayesha Omar talks about how she was in an abusive relationship for almost 8 years. And even worse, she almost got married to the guy too. She says that she mostly and always gets asked about her engagement and or relationship. To that, she answered that her relationship was serious to the point where even families were involved. “It was almost like a baat pakki.” However, the relationship did not last long since it was extremely abusive but she was too in love to realize it at the time.
Talking more about it, she clarified that she did not want to name or blame the guy or the family. She also revealed that the family was really nice and she is still on good terms with them as for the guy she gave a “what’s done is done” look.

She tells Frieha that it took her a really long time to move on from the relationship because of how invested she was in it. She also talks about how she was also under the very common misconception of how “the girl and her love can fix the problematic guy”. “Mujhe lagta tha that I can fix him, mera pyaar usse theek kar sakta tha.” she said.
The two ladies then talked about how such relationships involve a lot of asking for forgiveness and coming back and then leaving again. Ayesha agreed by saying that her relationship also had a lot of “maafiyan” and groveling. She reveals that she was abused physically, verbally, emotionally, and even mentally. She said that she was verbally abused all the time because it was the person’s habit to generally abuse. So she would be listening to “gaaliyan” the whole day and he would tell her that “main pyaar mai gaaliyan deta hun”, and like most other girls she believed that this was what love was supposed to be like. Until one fine day, she said “no” and left. She has never looked back ever since, gladly.

Tuesday saw the launch of Tongyi Qianwen, an internal product of Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Chinese internet giant Alibaba.
According to a press statement from the firm, Tongyi Qianwen, which can speak both Chinese and English, will initially be used on DingTalk, Alibaba’s office communication software, and Tmall Genie, a seller of smart home equipment.

On April 20, some lucky people in the Pacific and Indian Ocean regions will be able to see the hybrid solar eclipse. It is called The Ningaloo Eclipse. This hybrid solar eclipse takes its name from an Aboriginal word. During this, the moon’s shadow will be zooming over Earth and going from completely blocking out the Sun in some places to creating a rad ring of light in others. What a sight it will be.
And you know what’s even cooler than that? These epic eclipses only happen a few times a century. But wait, there’s more, this event will also be visible in western Australia, East Timor, and eastern Indonesia from 21:36 EDT on April 19 (0136 GMT on April 20) until 2:59 a.m. EDT (0659 GMT) on the following day.
However, you should know, that during a hybrid eclipse, it’s not possible for a single person to see both a total and an annular eclipse. It’s either one or the other, depending on where you are along the eclipse path. There are, however, points where the moon appears to be exactly the same size as the sun. Unfortunately, people in Pakistan will not be able to witness this.

Chinese tech giant Baidu has recently filed a lawsuit against Apple over the presence of fake Ernie AI apps on the App Store. Baidu, which is often referred to as the “Google of China,” is one of the largest internet companies in the world, and its search engine is the most widely used in China. In Karachi on April 10, 2023, the number one home appliance brand in Pakistan is Dawlance, a fully owned subsidiary of Arçelik, the second-largest manufacturer in Europe. The parent corporation is headquartered in Turkiye, which was devastated by the world’s deadliest earthquake (7.8 magnitudes) on February 6, 2023, killing over 50.000 people there. Dawlance has therefore committed to offering aid and demonstrating its sympathy with the kind Islamic country by kindly funding Arçelik’s earthquake recovery effort.
In order to assist those affected by the earthquake, Koç Holding, the largest conglomerate in Turkey and owner of Arçelik and Dawlance, has also established a Crisis Coordination Center. Arçelik established a “Search & Rescue Team” right away after the earthquake, saving 20 valuable lives of locals trapped in the wreckage and collapsed structures. In order to provide essential humanitarian aid throughout these regions, the business also created relief facilities in Hatay, Adyaman, and Kahramanmaraş.

This tragedy has inspired us to join Arçelik’s efforts for overcoming the crisis. We understand that the process of rehabilitation will be a long and challenging one, but we are committed to extending every possible support to our brethren.”
Arçelik Chief Commercial Officer of South Asia Can Dinçer expressed his gratitude to Dawlance for joining the rehabilitation initiatives and said: “The people of Turkey will never forget the compassion shown by our Pakistani brethren, to help us survive the tremendous challenges after the earthquake and resume our journey towards progress. All employees of Arçelik are thankful to the Dawlance family, for extending invaluable support, to lift our spirits during the most difficult days of our nation.”

McDonald’s is probably the most popular international fast food chain. Karachi, alone is home to 16 McDnald’s branches at different locations. Sadly, an extremely horrific accident took place last night at McDonald’s.
The manager on duty, during Sehri hours, was shot because of a small but heated argument. 32-year-old manager, Imran Ali, was shot on the foot by four men over a menial argument about their order. Fortunately, he was immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention so he was saved from any major damage. Here is a video of the manager explaining what happened.
According to the police officer on the case, a group of four suspects arrived in an SUV, at the drive-thru with the intention of ordering food. However, the restaurant staff informed them that they were no longer serving customers and were having Sehri. The police officer stated that this news enraged one of the suspects who were reportedly “intoxicated” and took out a rifle and started firing, which caused the glass doors of the restaurant, which were previously closed, to shatter. He further explained that during this time, Ali had come outside to see what had happened, but unfortunately, he was shot in the foot in this constant firing.
Ali told the police that he was on duty when he heard the sound of gunfire at the restaurant’s drive-thru window around 4:45 am. He then went outside and saw that the restaurant’s security guard was frantically gesturing him toward the man firing at the drive-thru window. He then told how he was shot in the foot as the rest of the staff present at the time tried to get to safety inside the restaurant while the suspects managed to escape. Ali was then taken to Southcity Hospital by a rider that was present there at that time.

SSP Raza said that the men who were responsible for the rampage had been identified through their vehicle’s number plate. Additionally, he added that the authorities were conducting raids to arrest them. Furthermore, the senior officer stated that the incident took place due to a heated exchange over food. He elaborated that the suspect who initiated the firing was originally from Balochistan and belonged to the Rind community. Lastly, the SSP expressed his hope that this suspect would be caught soon by the authorities.
